still, assuming we're talking about fission bombs, the fuel is fairly hard to come by and we have only a very sparing amount of it. it wouldn't be suitable as a fuel source through a one-time explosion as that would be fairly wasteful of all the energy going in every direction but the one the ship's going towards. If we're talking about fusion bombs, then it would still be wasteful, as the fusion fuel could be much better used once we manage to figure out fusion reactors, especially as the amounts of that we have are being lost to the solar winds in the uppermost atmosphere at a fairly constant rate.

Then we no longer need to use them. The Orion had estimated top speeds from anywhere between 3-11% the speed of light.

This could be a major problem one solution that was proposed was using magnetic sail to decelerate the space craft as it approached its destination but I'm not sure how close that technology is.

I like the idea of the EM thruster, however I'm still not entirely sure about it's viability in actual use. If it works, it will usher in a new age of space travel unseen since the days of Apollo 11, and if it doesn't, we're back to square 1 or whatever we're on now.
