>>133137"Ah, it is nothing."
He gives his griffon a squeeze, and returns to watching television.
>>133139>>133138There is a gangway plank (exactly one) up to the ship. The gangplank has a rope across it to signify that the ship is not open, although the rope clearly wouldn't and couldn't stop someone determined to ignore it
>>133140Griffin is squeezedShe seems to like the affection. When the Orchestra is finished with the song, they play a different melody. This new melody, much, much older in its origins, is among those recognized as a "classic"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6u-2NDsEgA >>133141Hopefully the gangway has railings, because Amber has already made her mind up. She ducks under the rope and tentatively goes up.
>>133129>>133141For the proper experience watch in 144p, though even that is probably too good for TVs of the time.>>133134Aww, I'm still looking forward to you joining. >>133141"This TV was worth its price, to be able to sit here with you and listen to music."
>>133134We hope you'll join us
>>133142And Amber moves under the rope. (Yes, it does have railings). It takes Amber up a level to a covered walk way on the first floor of the structure above the hull. There are any number of portals and windows to the side.
>>133143"This is very nice... I never had anything like this back home"
>>133144Ponies have to steer a ship at the front to see where they're going, right? She trots over to the bow deck of the ship.
>>133145This leads her to a stairs that goes down onto a wooden deck, and before the bridge
>>133144"I have to agree, it
is very nice. But this moment is what I am truly relishing most about this TV."
>>133147The camera switches, showing a close up of a unicorn playing the violin, crossing the string back and forth.
"Huh?"
Jubilosa doesn't seem to understand, but she goes back to watching, still laying her head on Silver
>>133146Now Amber is obviously not very knowledgeable about modern ship layout, but she knows that upstairs is probably the best place to look around, so she goes up.
>>133135Spark holds up the sample.
"It may have been an accident, but my friend is really sick. I believe this is what might have caused it."
>>133149It looks like there isn't an external stairs to go up to the next level. There are a couple doors, however, to go into the structure. From Where amber is, she can see the bridge, the white superstructure, and the forward mast.
>>133150She shakes her head
"What is that supposed to be?"
[1d3 = 1] >>133151Amber will go into the nearest door then, that is, if it opens normally.
>>133154The door does not open. It seems to be locked
>>133148Silver smiles, turns his head, and plants a kiss on the top of Jubilosa's.
"Never you mind, Jubilosa. Let us just enjoy this moment."
>>133151"I was hoping you might have that kind of answer. The doctor didn't know either."
>>133156Mala moves over and sits down on the ground near Silver
Khoi looks around, kind of confused, and sits on the other couch
>>133157"I'm just the receptionist" she says
>>133155She frowns.
Maybe I shouldn't be here in the first place. This was awfully foalish of me. She anxious walks back to where the gangplank should be.
>>133158"I was hoping you might know a pony I can speak to about this is what I mean."
>>133159Up the gangplank comes a slightly reddish brown griffin in a blue uniform. "Hey filly! You are not supposed to be here"
>>133160"There's an assayer...?" she turns her head, kind of pulling her lips up in suggestion
>>133161Amber is surprised by the appearance of the creature to the point she takes a step back.
"Er…I didn't realize at-at the time. I'm, um, I mean I was just having a look around." >>133163The griffin comes closer. He blocks Amber's only known path out of the ship
"The ship is closed at the moment. You can't be here kid"
He looks like he is wearing the uniform of some company. His facial expression is stern and not really friendly. He has a definite accent, so strong it's hard to understand him. What that accent is, Amber can't really say, but it's different than that of the griffins she encountered earlier
>>133162"Uh... let me check"
She moves back, and looks down the hallway, and then comes back
"Sure. He's up the stairs, second door on the left. Go there, and only there."
>>133164Amber tries to smile but her expression winds up looking more like a grimace.
"I'm…I'm sorry sir, I was just curious about this boat…." >>133164Spark heads there, though curious why the receptionist specified not to go elsewhere.
>>133165"Well be curious at a distance. We're supposed to sail this week and we don't need stowaways or vandals damaging things"
>>133166Into the hallway with tile floors, and up the wooden stairs, Spark knocks on the door to a "come in," and opens to see a lab with metal tables, beakers, a microscope, and a dark green pony who glistens in multiple shades.
>>133158Silver smiles at Mala, and looks over to Khoi.
"So, if none of us have seen TV before, am I safe to assume that also applies to you?"
>>133167"Hello. I believe you are the pony I need to see."
>>133169"Back to Rottendam. This ship has been holed up in harbor for three months, for fear even a ship under nuetral flag is not safe. But we've wrestled her from the colonial customs, and the Republican Navy is all smashed to pieces as of a week ago. She is set to leave again in a few days."
>>133170He looks at Spark, literally shining as he smiles
>>133168Khoi:
"What is TV"
Mala:
"I could see it playing in Maakie's room"
"What do you need?"
>>133171"Oh, it is like radio, but it shows images in addition to sound."
>>133172"Skyfall. Their ships are sunk or in repair in harbor, and what is left wouldn't bother a ship under the Imperial flag"
He moves aside, to make room for Amber
>>133173She blinks, but focuses on the television
"I see"
>>133171"I have a friend who is very sick and I think that this might be why, but I have no idea what it is.."
Spark reveals the sample.
>>133175He looks at it
"You want me to tell you what this is?"
>>133176"I need to know to be able to get the doctor to recommend me a treatment."
>>133174"Oh. Right." She squeezes by, a stupid expression on her face.
I didn't know we were at war with Skyfall. Or maybe Feathisia is. Hopefully whenever I can afford a newspaper I won't be making an ass out of myself. >>133178He looks at the rock dust under a microscope
"This is cummingtonite. It's a crystal, almost fibrous, made of iron and silica. It occurs right alongside the Magnetite we mine in the same rocks. It's produced as a waste in tailing. It's not
directly poisonous... But I wouldn't recommend eating it."
>>133177Khoi sits down on the couch, looking almost like she's waiting for something as she watches the television. Mala seems to have zoned out, but looks content. Jubilosa is unambiguously enjoying the moment.
A Stallion stands before the screen, evidently the conductor:
"Alright, that was Symphony B from Beathooven by the Baltimare Symphony Orchestra. Now, for Starlight's Walz."
>>133180"It might have been consumed indirectly. I heard that it was knocked into a fishing spot."
>>133180Silver, for his part, is enjoying the nice, peaceful moment spent in good company, as well as the calming music from a bygone era.
>>133181"I don't know. It's normally iron and silicate, but sometimes its Manganese. It's forms crystalline structures that are sometimes fibrous, almost like asbestos... I couldn't tell you what happens if you inhale or drink it. There are not usually heavy metals. Maybe Calcium or Sodium, but mostly silicate rocks."
>>133179He lets her by, watching her the whole way with a skeptical look
>>133182Silver is able to continue this for a while, with the orchestra playing more songs as time progresses. Jubilosa doesn't seem to want to move, and Khoi doesn't seem to know what else to do.
>>133183"Would that be enough for the doctor to narrow down a treatment?"
>>133183Amber gives one last apologetic glance back before descending the gangplank as quickly as possible without risking tripping.
>>133186And since Amber would probably just be at the dock again, she'll be going north along the road closest to the water.
>>133180I had to look up the name of that mineral to make sure you weren't making it up.
Some geologist had a sense of humor. >>133185He shrugs
"I don't know how it would make you sick. But I'm not a doctor. I don't think it's metal poisoning, though"
>>133186He stands at the top, and watches her go.
Amber passes several relatively higher end shops on the small peninsula, and then onto a diagonal road with a clocktower, a school, and multiple apartment buildings along it
Okay, now I see the joke >>133184Silver looks over at Khoi, noticing her lack of interaction.
"What is wrong? You have been quiet."
>>133189She blinks, and looks over to him
"Nothing is wrong..."
>>133188What's the size of the clock tower and how do the school/apartment buildings compare to her "home" neighborhood? Also what kind of school is it?
>>133190"Ah, my apologies. Are you not enjoying program?"
>>133191The clock tower is maybe only 65 feet in height, taller than most buildings but hardly towering over the city as a whole, and noticeably lower than the cranes of the docks or smoke towers. The apartment buildings are largely three stories tall, occasionally with small shops on the first level. The facade on the buildings and the bricks looks slightly nicer than what Amber has. The clock tower is next to a small plaza on the right side of the street, and the plaza contains an open air market. The school seems to be a secondary school.
>>133192"No, it is fine. I am a bit unfamiliar."
>>133188"Hmm... well, thanks for the help. Maybe the doctor will know more about it now."
>>133194He smiles and nods
"Good luck to you, little pony"
>>133195Spark smiles back and heads to the doctor.
>>133193"Well, alright, as long as you are fine. I suppose you are just supposed to relax and enjoy as orchestra plays music.".
>>133193Although has certainly seen taller buildings in the city the clocktower, in comparison with the earth-hugging buildings and cottages Amber is used to, is positively monumental when viewed from the street. She doesn't take too much time to admire its features though
and so you don't spend hours writing descriptions for minor landmarks, but sniffs to get an initial impression of what's sold at the market. She does glance at the secondary school and think to herself,
it's hard to imagine that ponies my age might still be studying in there. >>133196Spark goes back down to the clinic, and is able to find the doctor again after knocking on the door. He looks past Spark
"Oh good, there's only one of you"
>>133197She tries to lean back in the couch, and lies partly on her back
>>133198Just looking, there are cantaloupes and purse bags at thee market. It looks mostly to be ponies, and those, mostly with longer fur. Amber can smell fruit and also cabbages.
The clock tower has tan colored bricks and stone, while the school is two stories with red brick.
>>133199"Hi again. I found out it is like asbestos, a fibrous crystal."
>>133199This might be a good place to buy groceries…Amber ventures into the market to see the variety of goods and their prices. She also tries to calculate the distance between this market and her apartment. Should I roll for this?
>>133200He scrunches
"That may irritate the intestines if you drink it... or if it is inhaled. How is he sick, exactly?"
>>133201It's pretty far away from where she lives, although the prices aren't bad
>>133202"We think he is going to die soon. We just wanted to try everything we could."
>>133203"But I mean, what are his symptoms?"
>>133202It's a bit late now but maybe moving to this area would have been better. The atmosphere is definitely much better. She asks around what the prices of the cheapest apartments in the area are.
Gather information:
[1d20+2 = 4] >>133199Silver smiles at her. He looks around at the gathered household.
"I would like to make an announcement, if you would listen."
>>133205>PriceHigh
>>133206Mala looks up, prepared for anything. Khoi is anxious. Jubilosa looks like she's buzzed or something; she's definitely relaxed.
>>133207Shucks, that's a disappointment. Amber will have to stick to the humble life. She resumes her way north, keeping an eye out for anything particularly interesting.
>>133207"I asked you all if you wished to come here to live. As I see it, that makes me responsible to ensure this household is provided for. So, starting now, I am going to be keeping portion of my reward for jobs I do away in safe that is going in master bedroom, for our household's use."
>>133208The street merges diagonally with a main line road, and its a clear line of demarcation past it. Further north the road is more clearly inland, and to either side are older apartment buildings, may of which have trash that is not picked up, or have boarded up windows. A few buildings are even partly collapsed. To the right are mostly warehouses. Amber goes North
>>133209Jubilosa's beak opens in part as she smiles at the news. Khoi's mouth, likewise opens in part, as her pupils become much wider, and her eyes fold back ever so slightly
>>133210Amber picks up her pace into a steady trot, not quite liking the appearance–or the smell–of this neighborhood. She remains watchful, however.
>>133210"I will work on safe combination later, but I reason it would be irresponsible of me to not ensure you have Bits to spend when I am gone on job."
Well, I remember how I read the dnd rule book and understood it. I don't remember anymore.
So Fantasy timetravel back into the past and then a small step into an alternate future where she has just signed on with the black hoofs. Duturu!
I am writing something else while keeping taps on the progress in this thread if you ever wonder why some responses take time.
>>133211Further north, and off an a road to the right/east, there is a large brick building with a few police carts in front of it, and it doesn't look like a police station or jailhouse. Well, maybe it does. What does a jail look like?
>>133212Khoi stands up, clearly astonished. Jubilosa seems half expecting it, but still pleased, and Mala just sits there.
>>133213>>133214*Poof*
Seabreeze nods
"Alright, I'll send her in"
He presses a button on his desk, and a Blue Pegasus enters the room - a light blue, almost white coat, and a medium dark blue mane. She wears a black uniform. After entering the room she sits in a seat across from Fantasy Play, staring at her with a strange, almost malicious smile.
"This is Blue Skies. She has some experience with training and guiding voluntary assistants."
>>133215Silver looks to Khoi, raising an eyebrow in surprise. He looks concerningly at her.
"Is everything okay?"
>>133215Odd place for a jail. But then again, it might just be the best place for it, not that I would know.Amber approaches the ominous building curiously.
>>133215Fantasy starts bobbing her head while quietly singing,
"Blue skies, Smilin' at me.
>>133218She leans back in the chair
"So" she says. "What brings you here?"
>>133216"Yes..." she says
>>133217It's hard to determine precisely what the building is, but it's made of yellow-tan stone, or at least that is the facade. It has both police carts and those labelled as belonging to "R&M" outside of it, parked in a way that suggests this is not normal
Fantasy opens her smiling mouth and is about ot say something when she closes it again. She sighs as she realizes that she has to be serious for a second.
"You're the best alternative to get ponies their lands back."
>>133219Silver nods after a couple seconds of contemplation.
"Alright then. You know you are free to tell me whatever is on your mind when you want to, yes?"
>>133220She answers
"Oh, so this is about West Equestria. For that, you may want to join the Army. In the SSA, our focus is on keeping the land we have. The Anarchists and the Communists want to try to rip away Baltimare and form their own Non-State, or join it in a larger "Equestrian Socialist Republic." Opposing these measures may seem less important, but without stable supply lines and lines of communication here, the larger empire cannot prevail deeper inland in Equestria,"
>>133221"Well, it's just... why are you doing this?"
>>133222"Oh! Well, I feel it is right thing to do, providing for household. It is worth it if I can improve quality of life for you."
>>133223She looks up at him, and her tail seems to move down to a more relaxed position
"And I am part of household as a stranger?"
>>133222Out of game:
So our the army fighting against the changelings or are they up fighting griffins? If they are fighting griffins why is she talking about west Equestria for? How are they more related to these issues than these guys. None ofthem seem to be fighting on that front anyway. I'm just asking. Not trying to be like mean or anything. I truly just don't get it and is more curious than anything.
I will try to make up a reason for staying in this place since I meet up with Amber.
>>133224Silver smiles at her, and nods.
"Of course you are Khoi. I would like to move past us being strangers, however."
>>133225That faction is actively fighting griffins on a different continent, and has a truce with the Changelings. The truce with the Changelings isn't really expected to last very long, which is why she talks about it like it's an active war. Fantasy Play is much more likely to encounter changelings right there in Baltimare with the Blackhooves than in the Army.
Fantasy could probably also just leave and go find Amber
>>133227"SSA" is the name of the branch, "Black Hooves" is the name of the political party. The blackhooves and the SSA are the same thing, she's just being more formal
>>133229But is Amber with the black hooves or what is she doing?
>>133230She's currently establishing herself in Baltimare. She doesn't have an affiliation yet
>>133228She smiles
"Well, thank you. I am only just learning this new Equestrian version of Friendship."
>>133231Well, then I'll keep to this city because I'll try to meet her after I'm done becoming a member of this SSA.
>>133222"Eh, can't I just join them later when they start fighting on the west front again? I don't really care for where I help so long as I help and ponies who ldevote themselves to communism in this point in time can literally go fuck themselves," Fantasy says while waving her hood away dismissively at the end. "Besides, I don't wanna travel even more." She grins sheepishly and scratches the back of her head.
.
>>133233"I assure you, if war breaks out with the Hegemony,
the Army will be looking for recruits."
She smiles at the "go fuck themselves" part
"Don't worry. You're needed right here in Baltimare. Especially with so many agents transferred over to Manehattan."
>>133235"The
Hegemony? Is that what the changling nation... thing-" She rolls her hoof in the air. "-Is called? Regardless, I'm glad. I can conjure about illusions and sneak around, that's about it on me."
>>133232He smiles back.
"You are welcome, Khoi."
He returns to watching the TV.
>>133236"That's the latest thing they call themselves"
She smiles in a larger, toothy smile
"Conjur Illusions and sneak around?
We'll get along just fine."
>>133237And so they watch
If you want a change of programming, that could take longer >>133239"Oh, I was thinking of fixing stroganoff tonight for dinner. What do you all think of idea?"
>>133239"Ooh, is espionage your forte?" Fantasy ducks her head forward and smiles back.
