Poster IDs on /qa/
Just wanted to inform that we've turned on IDs on /qa/ for new threads going forward. It might remove some of the potential thread derailment and confusion we've seen. Reason ID was turned off on /qa/ initially, when it was created back in the day, was due to a limitation in the old code.
We'll still have the option to hide poster IDs in new threads, right?
>>6157Neat
Much appreciated Pupper.
>Roll 'EmWith the ID toggle is also available gives alot of nice flexibility.
>>6159Yes, that option is still there.
>>6161Alright. I wasn't crazy about poster IDs being visible, but so long as it's optional I'm fine.
>>6162There is good reasons for not having IDs on /qa/ and good reasons for having them too. Just wanted to try to present an solution for the derailment and confusion we've seen in previous threads lately. It could be it is just a passing thing and we can turn IDs off again if we find that it is detrimental having it turned on on /qa/.
I could perhaps look into some sort of half-way IDs where IDs change every 24h or if poster hasn't posted in 24h, but would need to do some testing to see how to implement that or if it is desired. First is easier to implement but would could lead to ID switching while conversing, second one just takes a bit more work and thinking.
But for now OPs can choose to turn off IDs when creating threads (like other boards that have IDs).
>>6164>There is good reasons for not having IDs on /qa/ and good reasons for having them too.Maybe it could be slighty better if OPs needed to opt-in to using poster IDs, rather than opt-out. It's functionally the same, but could be less disruptive.
Or maybe thats just pointless work to do. Idk.
>>6166True, and could perhaps be a good feature to have. I will look into that, but would need a bit more code change to implement (both code and database). But I will see what I can do, and talk with the others on staff what they think about having a feature like that.
