I haven't been on /sg/ in over a week.
Why are thousands of ISIS surrendering to the SDF, whereas they fought to the death in Yamouk and only gave up when the SAA agreed to bus them East?
Do they think the SDF will hand them over to Western countries and they'll get lighter punishments?
Everything about this is really pissing me off tbqh.

>then what about french and brits, the centuries long conflicts had racial undertones and then religious undertones with the protestant/catholic divide
Fair enough comparison, but if you compare the length of time of that period of conflict it pales in comparison to the Arab/Israeli conflict. It makes you wonder why Arabs and Jews don't just "get over it" like the Europeans did. What are your thoughts on why after all of this time neither party has moved on?
>what you call a racial/religious conflict is what would have been the equivalent of modern nationalistic conflict
Yeah but simply put it is Arab vs Israelite, whether you lump it into a nationalistic/ethnic/tribal struggle at the end of the day it can still be summed up as the oldest conflict, Arab vs Israelite.

>you're not escaping that looming days long argument boi
I'm not, but I wouldn't call this an argument, but the last part of this reply might start one tho ;^)

>this falsely assume that back in the days holy books existed as whole manuscripts
No, I am fully aware that the holy books were written from memory and retelling of the oral versions, and were very fragmented and "incomplete" for lack of a better term when finally put to paper. An oral retelling could be altered even more so than a written one, so the mentions of Ishmael could still have been removed or revised with no one to ever verify, but this wasn't done. Even after the "only son" reference the Bible still mentions Ishmael as Abraham's son. But like you said, it's just a theory as to revision and depending on which part of the spectrum you are on it can't really hold as an argument.

>again this is a question of bias/perspective
On this not so much, Mohamed took many parts of the oral/written histories of the holy books that he had heard from Jews and Christians, the Qur'an even describes his discussions with them on more than one occasion. Now not to disparage your religion by any means, but if an outside observer were to hear the origin story of the Qur'an and then compare the book itself to the Judaic and Christian books I think it would be clear that in the very least Mohamed copied parts of the Torah and the Christian scriptures. Keep in mind I say this knowing that muslims believe the true revelation of God was given to Mohamed, and just because many of the same stories are featured in the other 2 religions, this is to be expected.
Ultimately, Islam came last, and again, speaking from the perspective of an outside observer (not myself, because I am not an outside observer) then it could be easily assumed that Mohamed copied the Jews and Christians oral stories and gospels.

> it pales in comparison to the Arab/Israeli conflict
not really considering most periods of your so called conflict wasn't really a conflict but jews living as 2nd class citizens inside arabs/muslim countries
jews never amounted to numbers sufficient to put up a fight up until very recently, if anything the french-anglo conflict was more of a conflict if you take into account only periods of real wars/raids etc
at best the arab jewish "conflict" could be compared to the white vs black "conflict" in america since the 16th century
>like the Europeans did.
did they though?
you're missing a major point the europeans stopped fighting against each other when they stopped having the world wide influence to do so when america and USSR took over, now you're seeing this intra european conflict under different polarization (ie EU/NATO vs muh russia) they didn't stop on their own volition, they stopped because they were stopped being in the driving seat
as for arabs vs jews, i think you're over focusing on it, it's no more different than arabs vs iranian/majoosi by the baathists or arab vs kurds in irak and syria
the only difference is that today it's bigger than ever because of israel which is pretty much a launching pad of amerimutt hegemony over arab lands (especially when you considered the average arab POV of america after irak invasion)
>Yeah but simply put it is Arab vs Israelite, whether you lump it into a nationalistic/ethnic/tribal struggle at the end of the day it can still be summed up as the oldest conflict, Arab vs Israelite.
well in that case you may as well ask about the "centuries long arab/ethiopian conflict" and the "centuries long arab/iranian conflict" and the "centuries long arab/european conflict" and so on and so forth, only difference with jews is that they didn't form a defined outside nation but lived inside arab countries as a de facto nation thus creating this constant conflict

also i'll have you remember that the "centuries long arab vs jew conflict" is no different than the "centuries long christian/european vs jews conflict" ever since there were introduced to europe, yet i don't see you asking about it as if this one is normal but the other is the oddity

>it can still be summed up as the oldest conflict, Arab vs Israelite
oldest recorded*
ftfy
it's older because the cradle of civilization (especially abrahamic religions) and writing (thus recorded history is in the ME)
if jesus and the first writing system were born in east asia we'd be talking about the "centuries long chinese mongol conflict"

>An oral retelling could be altered even more so than a written one
quite the opposite actually, since oral tradition is shared through memorization (not a hard task, even illiterate people can do so) throughout many "books" (ie people's mind) and books are few and only accessible to a literate elite, it's far harder to alter oral tradition and make it mainstream than do it with a manuscript

>Mohamed took many parts of the oral/written histories of the holy books that he had heard from Jews and Christians, the Qur'an even describes his discussions with them on more than one occasion
as i said this is a question of bias/perspective, no point arguing with that when the argument is purely based on a question of perspective/bias just look at this
>Now not to disparage your religion by any means, but if an outside observer were to hear the origin story of the bible and then compare the book itself to the Judaic books I think it would be clear that in the very least jesus copied parts of the Torah.
>Now not to disparage your religion by any means, but if an outside observer were to hear the origin story of the Torah and then compare the book itself to the Zoroastrian books I think it would be clear that in the very least Moses copied parts of the Zoroastrian scriptures.

>Keep in mind I say this knowing that muslims believe the true revelation of God was given to Mohamed, and just because many of the same stories are featured in the other 2 religions, this is to be expected.
then what's the point of your argument since you do recognize that it's all based on a question of perspective, i mean if an outsider is seeing this from the muslim perspective (ie considering the hypothesis that the source material came from the same God) how can it be shocking that there are similarities? if there was no similarities, this would imply that God changed in between prophets or that the God referred in the religion is different
>(not myself, because I am not an outside observer)
but you are an outside observer too

>Ultimately, Islam came last, and again, speaking from the perspective of an outside observer (not myself, because I am not an outside observer) then it could be easily assumed that Mohamed copied the Jews and Christians oral stories and gospels.
this whole argument is faulty as it is biased since assumes that the outsider will see through a christian/non-muslim perspective and not see it through both a muslim and non-muslim perspective and come to the conclusion that both sides are right in their own narrative since they both don't self contradict and considering we can't really tell which religion is true then both of these theories/perspectives cannot be considered as more or less valid than the other

>Afghan Army Base Is Wiped Out by U.S. Airstrikes, Officials Say

KABUL, Afghanistan — For the second time in a few days, an Afghan Army base was destroyed on Wednesday — but this time by American airstrikes that followed a firefight between the Afghans and Americans, Afghan officials said.

A local Afghan official said six soldiers were killed and nine others badly wounded, out of 17 soldiers at the base. Qais Mangal, a spokesman for the Afghan Defense Ministry, confirmed that the airstrikes had taken place after another Afghan unit attacked a joint convoy of Afghan Special Forces and American troops. He put the death toll at five soldiers, with 10 wounded

An American military spokeswoman said the Afghan Army post, which she described as a “checkpoint,” had opened fire on the convoy first.

“This is an example of the fog of war,” said Sgt. 1st Class Debra Richardson. “The U.S. conducted a precision self-defense airstrike on people who were firing at a partnered U.S.-Afghan force.”

The Defense Ministry spokesman said one Afghan commando had been wounded. There were no reports of American casualties, although the United States military rarely releases details on wounded soldiers.

In western Afghanistan on Monday, a Taliban attack wiped out a company of Afghan soldiers in their base in Badghis Province, killing or capturing more than 50 soldiers. Analysts have said that the Afghan forces’ tendency to stay penned up in fortified bases rather than going on offensives has hurt their effectiveness and led to a devastatingly high rate of casualties.

The airstrikes on Wednesday happened while American soldiers were patrolling on the outskirts of the city of Tirin Kot, the capital of southern Uruzgan Province, near an Afghan National Army base, according to Mohammed Karim Karimi, the deputy head of the Uruzgan provincial council.

Mr. Karimi said the American forces believed that they had heard gunfire coming from the base, and a firefight broke out between the Americans and the Afghan forces at the base. The long-established outpost, known as Satarman Base, guards the approaches to Tirin Kot, which has been repeatedly attacked by Taliban insurgents who dominate much of the surrounding province.

“It is still not confirmed who fired first, but then they both engaged in a firefight,” Mr. Karimi said. The fight went on for four hours, until 3 a.m., when American warplanes carried out airstrikes that destroyed the base, he said.

“There was a misunderstanding between both sides,” Mr. Karimi said, adding that in the darkness of the area both forces thought they were engaging the Taliban.

The insurgents often steal Afghan and American military vehicles and uniforms to launch their attacks.

“The Afghan and U.S. partnered force tried to de-escalate the situation but in the fog of war they continued to be fired upon,” Sergeant Richardson said. “We are operating in a complex environment, Afghans included, where attacks come from fighters who do not wear their uniforms.”

Two Afghan soldiers who fled during the fight were apparently unhurt, Mr. Karimi said, but the nine soldiers who were wounded were in critical condition.

“It was a mistake between them,” said Mr. Mangal, the Defense Ministry spokesman. “The Afghan Army outpost opened fire first on a unit of Afghan and foreign forces headed to a military operation.”

In a separate attack on Wednesday, the Taliban again attacked Afghan National Army bases in the Bala Murghab district of Badghis Province, where the 50 soldiers were killed or captured on Monday. This time, seven soldiers went missing, either captured or killed, officials said.

>jews never amounted to numbers sufficient to put up a fight up until very recently
I was approaching the angle more from starting back at the early conflict during Biblical times between the Ishmaelites and the Israelites, then as it simmered through the centuries and was not always open conflict. I concede the argument on that front though, with time many things have changed between Arab and Jew, and it isn't really comparable of ancient times to modern times as far as the conflict is concerned.
>you're missing a major point the europeans stopped fighting against each other when they stopped having the world wide influence to do so
but see that is the more nationalistic type of mindset you referenced earlier, yes there were Catholic/Prot struggles as well but as Europe entered the modern era this was more about dying kingdoms and nation-states vying for influence and trade control, the Arab/Israeli conflict is a bit deeper than that.
>as for arabs vs jews, i think you're over focusing on it
Yeah probably, I guess I see it as unique because of the Biblical/Judaic/Islamic roots and seeing as how these were some of the earliest races of people it interests me more.
>yet i don't see you asking about it as if this one is normal but the other is the oddity
well if you remember the main reason for my question was based on the Arabs and Jews having a direct common patriarch in Abraham, I think that fact makes it more interesting than the "centuries long christian/european vs jews conflict".
>quite the opposite actually, since oral tradition is shared through memorization
I disagree, on principle you are correct, but man is fallible, and the accurate retelling from oral sources relies on a few factors, the main one being the integrity of individuals who memorize it. Just as a manuscript can be altered, an oral retelling could be as well, and if one person altered and then had another memorize it, who then passed it on to others then the original version could be lost. I don't mean vast sweeping changes, but a word or phrase here or there, maybe a sentence, and without multiple written manuscripts to compare then alterations could stick.
>if an outside observer were to hear the origin story of the bible and then compare the book itself to the Judaic books
The Old Testament is literally the Judaic books tho, the only difference would be some minor translation variances, other than that they are the same.
>would be clear that in the very least jesus copied parts of the Torah
Jesus would have known all of the Judaic scriptures by heart, all Jewish children at that time were required to study and memorize them, and he quotes them numerous times in his teachings. He also didn't write any scripture directly, the New Testament is about him, and it was added to the Judaic scriptures to form the Old and New Testaments.
>observer were to hear the origin story of the Torah and then compare the book itself to the Zoroastrian books
The Zoroastrian scriptures were physically written down in the 14th century, well after the time of Moses, Zoroaster, and the Judaic, Islamic, and Christian scriptures had all been put to paper by that time, so it would be harder to believe that the oral retelling had stayed "pure", especially considering the impact in scale of Zoroastrianism compared to the Abrahamic religions on the world.
>then what's the point of your argument since you do recognize that it's all based on a question of perspective
To be fair this was more of a "I just want Doc's thoughts on these questions", not so much of an argument ;^)
>but you are an outside observer too
I should have clarified, to me the "outside observer" would be a person who does not practice one of the Abrahamic religions, and I do practice one of them.

>but see that is the more nationalistic type of mindset you referenced earlier, yes there were Catholic/Prot struggles as well but as Europe entered the modern era this was more about dying kingdoms and nation-states vying for influence and trade control, the Arab/Israeli conflict is a bit deeper than that.
well in that case it's no different for arabs who had their own power/ingfluence wars with neighboring nations, the arab/jew conflict is nothing in comparison
if anything the jewish/european conflict was much more brutal when you take into account nboth periods of "peace" and "conflict" as a matter of fact jews had it far better in arab lands since their were considered as ahlu al-kitab (people from the book aka people following religions set by the same god) and thus had far more rights/protection in comparison to the point that arab kingdoms were the main refugee destination for european jews
so why would they constantly flock toward arabs when shit started hitting the fan if the arab/jew conflict is as bad as you describe it?
>well if you remember the main reason for my question was based on the Arabs and Jews having a direct common patriarch in Abraham, I think that fact makes it more interesting than the "centuries long christian/european vs jews conflict".
i could also argue over the fact that europeans were constantly at war with each other even though they're all closely genetically related (as much as jews and arabs are ie you can find common ancestor if you go back far enough even though it's not very relevant considering the groups split long ago to be clearly distinguishable from each other) )
>but man is fallible
A man is faillible, 10 000 men failing at the same time on the same thing is wishful thinking pushed to the extreme
>n oral retelling could be as well, and if one person altered and then had another memorize it, who then passed it on to others then the original version could be lost
again a faulty logic, this implies that people learn and "box" themselves into isolation like hermits without never interacting with anyone and never getting into an opportunity to make their mistake known to other people and thus corrected
it's like if you're telling me that if you learn a word from a faulty source and can't pronounce it properly then you'll never eventually end up learning it the right way from someone calling your mistake. and that's only the pronunciation of a word, far from the alteration of a full sentence of even just a word switched
> and without multiple written manuscripts to compare then alterations could stick.
said it before and i'll say it again, memorization is superior to books because it's gets "rechecked" through recitation over and over again by the same "manuscript" (aka person who memorized it) and is cross checked over and over again through interactions with other "manuscript" and that during every generations unlike a manuscript who can't auto check and can't cross check and who'll carry a fault through generations
you want some proof?
there is only one version of the quran even though there are tens if not hundreds of splits in the religion, yet there are a shit ton of different version of the bible, guess which one of the two religions have as a tradition the learning by heart of the scriptures
>The Old Testament is literally the Judaic books tho
yeah so? the point still stands even more solidly if anything
from an outsider POV this is the proof of copying, from an insider POV this is the proof that the religion is true and is merely the continuation of god's religion
no offense, but the fact that you're failing to see the obvious parallel i'm pointing out with your statement about islam being a copy is astounding, it really says a lot about the quality of the education system that creates individuals that can't make abstraction of something and be able to have an objective look at a situation and realizing that the points they are pointing out can also be applied to their very own situation
>Jesus would have known all of the Judaic scriptures by heart,
no explicit mention of that in christian books, also i doubt that a social outcast as the son of a single mother (from the jewish contemporaries of jesus i mean) would get education from jewish communities
>The Zoroastrian scriptures were physically written down in the 14th century
why is it so hard for you to understand that texts can exist without physical copies and thus a "copy" of said religion doesn't require a written manuscript? how do you think Zoroastrian priests learned the religion before the physical copy?
> He also didn't write any scripture directly, the New Testament is about him, and it was added to the Judaic scriptures to form the Old and New Testaments.
yeah my mistake, lazy copy paste, should have changed jesus with apostles but you still get the point
>so it would be harder to believe that the oral retelling had stayed "pure"
i don't see how is this relevant to the fact that the hypothesis of judaism being a inspired of zoroastrian old texts (key word is "old"), if we follow this hypothesis then it doesn't matter how "pure" the source is if you're going to create a new religion out of it
>"I just want Doc's thoughts on these questions", not so much of an argument ;^)
you wrote "Doc's thoughts" twice
and i'm barely memeing
>I should have clarified, to me the "outside observer" would be a person who does not practice one of the Abrahamic religions, and I do practice one of them.
yes but what i meant was that you could still see it from an objective perspective by putting yourself in a "thought experiment" situation, but apparently you weren't taught to be able to do as such (again no offense intended)

Iran hacked into Benny Gantz's cellphone and drew all his contents, which of course included personal information and private correspondence

Iranian intelligence has hacked into the phone of Blue and White leader Benny Gantz and taken all its contents, including sensitive information, Gantz was recently told by the Shin Bet security service, Channel 12 reported on Thursday night.

Two Shin Bet chiefs arrived five weeks ago to meet with Benny Gantz, chairman of the Blue-and-White party, and informed him that a cell phone held in his possession had been breached by Iran's intelligence services, which is defined as an enemy state. Contents: Personal information and private correspondence.

The report also mentioned that senior officials warned him that any detail there could be used against him in the future if the Iranians chose to do so.

Yeah I saw something online that recommend peeling and boiling some tomatoes, and starting slow with chicken broth, also throwing in a little (sheeeit) watermelon. Doing these for the first few days, then slowly working your way through to different foods. I'm on day 39, breaking the fast tomorrow at sunset. I figured I'd ask the good doctor for his take, plus I assume he fasts due to his religion, and he would have some tips.

start with sugary shit like fast sugar type and also slow sugar (pasta/rice/bread) for "regenerating" well after your meal, take low quantities at start (you most likely will try to eat a full meal by your pre fast standard but that shit's dangerous because your stomach has shrunk)
also try to get some protein, i'd say fish or chicken, but not red meat to not tire your digestive system trying to break it down
also hydration is very important

>what for?
A greater connection to God through sacrifice, deep prayer, and studying the Bible more than I normally do.
Luckily I don't have to do anything extremely strenuous at my job since I'm in management, honestly I haven't really felt much fatigue, sometimes when I get home I'll lay down for 20 minutes or so, but overall I feel better physically right now than I have in quite some time.

>also try to get some protein, i'd say fish or chicken

>so why would they constantly flock toward arabs when shit started hitting the fan if the arab/jew conflict is as bad as you describe it?
You are over thinking my original line of thought on bringing this question up, it wasn't "how bad" the conflict is/was, my interest was just since both Arab and Jew have a common religious origin (that is documented in their holy books unlike Euros)and how long throughout history it has continued with varying degrees of intensity through the years. However this answers a lot, "were considered as ahlu al-kitab (people from the book aka people following religions set by the same god)" thanks for that.
>this implies that people learn and "box" themselves into isolation like hermits without never interacting with anyone
But many did, maybe not as much from the Islamic side but many men lived like monks in small communities, preserving the oral retelling among themselves with very little interaction with other outsiders. Now if one of these small groups had an agenda (like even you said it is believed the Jews altered the original stories from the holy books) then you can see how a revision could eventually be spread. But I concede the point, and I would have to say I agree with you that groups who memorized their scriptures would be more accurate, with potential for small groups who had revisions, but on a whole the majority who knew the accurate scripture would correct the ones who were either incorrect or attempting to alter the original words.
>there is only one version of the quran...yet there are a shit ton of different version of the bible
Firstly, correct me if I am wrong but isn't it a rule that if the Quran is in any other language than Arabic then it loses its holy status? Plus to be honest conversion to Islam has never taken on a wide scale to Europeans or those of Euro descent, but as Christianity did, it was translated into multiple languages and not considered as losing its holy status. Plus the oral and then written scriptures from the old testament were passed down through more than one language since the start, whether Aramean, ancient Hebrew, probably some Egyptian even, etc. When you say "versions" of the Bible it would seem that you think they are all somewhat different from each other, but the "good versions" (produced without agenda by worldly or liberal sources) as I would call them, are all basically the same. The King James Version has a lot "thee, thine, thou" and older medieval words, compared to the English standard version which would turn those into you, your, yours, etc. If you meant versions in the way of comparing a Protestant to a Catholic Bible, you would see Catholics have a few more books, but this is an entirely different story, will save for another discussion.
>guess which one of the two religions have as a tradition the learning by heart of the scriptures
Christians as well are instructed through the whole Bible to learn it and keep it in their heart, unfortunately most don't, Islam is very admirable in that sense.
>Side note copy paste on comparing the task of memorization between quaran and others. >"There are 18,248 words in the Quran. This is in contrast to the Torah and the Christian Bible with 79,847 words and 774,746 words, respectively."
>yeah so? the point still stands even more solidly if anything
>the fact that you're failing to see the obvious parallel i'm pointing out with your statement about islam being a copy is astounding
No I see the parallel, you missed my point about the Old Testament being a direct copy of the Judaic books, and not an adaptation of the stories from some of the Jewish scriptures in the Quran. My point was that there is no difference between the Torah and the Old Testament, but that the Quran is in fact different with many of the same elements, but not a word for word copy.
>no explicit mention of that in christian books
It is a known fact that Jewish children were introduced to the scriptures by the age of 5, and expected to memorize them by the age of 10 or so, then afterwards they would continue religious study and their future trade. Not sure how familiar with the New Testament you are but the story of Jesus at the age of 12 answering the rabbis' questions in the temple and astounding them with his knowledge gives credence to the fact that he knew the scriptures very well. In the New Testament, Jesus quoted 24 books of the Old Testament 180 times, further suggesting memorization.
>a social outcast as the son of a single mother (from the jewish contemporaries of jesus i mean)
But she wasn't a single mother, she was married to Joseph when Jesus was born and they had children together, one of the apostles, James the Just, was Jesus' brother. (Keep in mind Catholics do not believe any of this, rather believing Mary was a virgin in perpetuity.)
The region where Jesus was from (Galilee) was also known as the most pious and religiously in tune place of Jews in Palestine, here is a good article on the region and what Jesus' early education would have looked like.
https://www.thattheworldmayknow.com/rabbi-and-talmidim
>why is it so hard for you to understand that texts can exist without physical copies and thus a "copy" of said religion doesn't require a written manuscript?
I understand it, I am calling into question the accuracy of the Zoroastrian written scriptures in comparison to the oral ones, you yourself place more accurate emphasis on oral retelling, so how do we know the written version is more accurate than the oral version, especially considering the length of time before Zoroastrian scripture was put to pen.
>i don't see how is this relevant to the fact that the hypothesis of judaism being a inspired of zoroastrian old texts
You are correct, I concede that.

>you could still see it from an objective perspective by putting yourself in a "thought experiment" situation
The original question I asked was from an outside observer stance, it was only when you said I was an outside observer I brought up the fact that since I practice one of the abrahamic religions I actually wasn't.
When I said I understand that muslims believe that Mohamed was given the direct scripture from God I said that from an neutral stance. You know I am fully capable of being an outside observer, our past conversations on the Sunni persecution in northern Iraq should be evidence enough for that, I have no personal connection to them that would make me be anything but an outside observer, and yet I understand their frustration and anger.

> since both Arab and Jew have a common religious origin (that is documented in their holy books unlike Euros)
>what is christianity
same argument could be used for the religious persecution of jews by christians (although in that case without the racial aspect)and same could be said of european nations (same race and same religion) and same could be said for sunni arabs vs shia arabs (same race, same religion)
it's just how it is, people who are even slightly different will always end up fighting each other, i don't really understand the extra focus over arabs vs jews
>But many did, maybe not as much from the Islamic side but many men lived like monks in small communities, preserving the oral retelling among themselves with very little interaction with other outsiders
maybe in their own enclaves, but not enough to make it mainstream amongst the cities where people go to the mass/shabat and thus have the ability to spot the changes, monasteries are nothing in pop compared to cities in order for them to influences to bigger one
>but isn't it a rule that if the Quran is in any other language than Arabic then it loses its holy status?
not exactly, it's not a question of "holy status", a translated version is considered as not whole by default because a lot of subtle meaning are lost through translation hence why for the same language you have a ton of different translation with small variation for the same word (just try google translating a text through multiple languages)
the reason for such emphasis is to not end up with far away nations using translation of translation losing a lot of the meaning from the original and thus creating ground for schism (bigger than shia sunni (which isn't a religious schism but a political one) i mean, with mormonism being a prime example (no offense if you're a mormon))
> it was translated into multiple languages and not considered as losing its holy status
i'll have to point out that translations of the bible are fairly recent and in the past people tended to keep the bible only in latin or greek depending of the region, and only after said translation you can see a shit ton of fractions created amongst christianity (especially in protestantism who were more liberal in the use of translations compared to for instance catholics who still keep somewhat a close link to "original" latin bible)
>When you say "versions" of the Bible it would seem that you think they are all somewhat different from each other, but the "good versions" (produced without agenda by worldly or liberal sources) as I would call them, are all basically the same.
that's were the nuance is, what you call same is indeed same in the broad sense but has small variations in interpretation/meanings depending of the choice of word which varies version from version
call it autism if you want but since no one can claim to know what god meant exactly (including the different meanings loaded in a same sentence), then it is better to stay on the safe side and not take the liberty of using a synonym for a word for fear of losing some subtleties
>Christians as well are instructed through the whole Bible to learn it and keep it in their heart, unfortunately most don't, Islam is very admirable in that sense.
this is coded in the practice of prayer which require the recitation of verse and since you can't just read it from a book while praying then the habit of learning by heart is maintained
it is rare (at least from my POV, maybe it's different in USA) to see a christian priest (let alone a regular christian) being able to recite all the bible in one take, and it is not uncommon to see a regular muslim knowing all th quran by heart (let alone imams who are compelled to know all of the quran)
>>"There are 18,248 words in the Quran. This is in contrast to the Torah and the Christian Bible with 79,847 words and 774,746 words, respectively."
yeah so? the human brain can stockpile up to 2.5 petabytes of info, it's a question of habit and i sure as hell know how impressive it is to learn massive texts by heart up to the small details, yet how easy it is when you put yourself to the task and do it regularly
also imams have to learn by heart thousands of different hadiths (which would amount to multiple time the length of the quran put together), yet they still do both hadith and quran
>No I see the parallel, you missed my point about the Old Testament being a direct copy of the Judaic books,
i wrote bible in "if an outside observer were to hear the origin story of the bible and then compare the book itself to the Judaic books" when i meant new testament
>and not an adaptation of the stories from some of the Jewish scriptures in the Quran.
i don't see how this changes the hypothesis that christianity can also be seen as a copy (from an outsider POV) (due to the new testament being "inspired" from the old) with the old testament added to the bible to add legitimacy for the claim of christianity being only the continuation of the religion (from the christian POV)
same goes for islam, an outsider observer would still make the claim of it being a copy yet the muslim pov would still say that it's a legitimate continuation of the same religion (and what is seen as "inspirations taken from older text" being merely a confirmation that it is indeed coming from the same god)
if you think that adding the old scripture would give more strength to the claim of christianity being a legitimate continuation of the previous religion (and not a copy) unlike islam which doesn't re-use the old scriptures then one could also ask how come the bible doesn't add the scriptures of previous prophets like abraham for instance since it is a compilation of old and new scriptures
the only difference being that it is explicitly written in the quran that previous scriptures were altered throughout the time (both voluntarily and involuntarily) thus rendering the need of adding them to the quran pointless

In the New Testament, Jesus quoted 24 books of the Old Testament 180 times, further suggesting memorization.
alright i'll concede the point, but the original point (in the lazy copy paste) was about apostles (which i lazily forgot to correct in said copy paste) taking inspirations from the old testament to write the new
>But she wasn't a single mother, she was married to Joseph when Jesus was born and they had children together, one of the apostles, James the Just, was Jesus' brother. (Keep in mind Catholics do not believe any of this, rather believing Mary was a virgin in perpetuity.)
ah my bad, my knowledge of christianity comes from the catholic perspective so the whole argument is heavily relying on the denomination of christianity and not christianity itself
>so how do we know the written version is more accurate than the oral version, especially considering the length of time before Zoroastrian scripture was put to pen.
even if the changes between oral zoroastrian scriptures and the written copy being different there would still be enough similarities persisting through history (unless you make the claim that old zoroastrianism and new zoroastrianism have nothing in common, new and old being pre written and post written scriptures) thus enabling the hypothesis that enough similarities between the torah and the written zoroastrian scriptures to conclude that there has to be some sort of similarities in between and since zoroastrianism predates judaism, then it can not be excluded that judaism was inspired by zoroastrianism (at least such was the first hypothesis in the copy paste)

so the question being how handicapping is it to go through 40 days without being able to achieve complex tasks

Say China technologically outpaces the West by a large margin, their companies dominate communication networks and they produce (and retain) the first quantum computers.
Except for a few military networks with quantum cryptography, all data which passes through their networks could be decrypted by the chinks. This means an unparalleled amount of "soft power". But of course they could easily use this for offensive measures too, such as disabling key infrastructure.
Most realistic "world government" in the future imo.

>tell me about the weight loss and the muscle mass loss
The first week was the highest rate of weight loss, of course you lose a bunch of water weight initially so that would be why. I tracked my weight daily, here's a breakdown, with the exception of week 1 it was very consistent.
Week 1- Lost 5.4 kg
Week 2- Lost 2.3 kg
Week 3- Lost 1.4 kg
Week 4- Lost 2.3 kg
Week 5- Lost 1.4 kg
Week 6- Lost 1.4 kg
>i personally tried a 4 days full fast (only water, no tea/gatorade/anything
My first 7 days was strictly water, just for reference, it wasn't until I gave in to a caffeine desire that I even touched tea.
>felt like my IQ dropped by 30 points
Honestly I felt none of this, my mental clarity was much better, but initially the first 3 to 4 days were pretty shitty physically with headaches and the initial hunger, but once this passed I found no problem focusing on work. I wouldn't equate my work with being a med student like you, but I manage about 20 people between 2 departments, input and track several types of data through excel, plan with other managers to coordinate manpower and stick to strict time frames. I did not feel hindered at all, actually I felt my focus was much improved.
>the question being how handicapping is it to go through 40 days without being able to achieve complex tasks
It could depend on the task or the individual, my co-manager also did a 24 day fast (strictly for weight loss, no religious purposes) and he also was in pretty much the same condition mentally as I was, having much the same job albeit with a smaller group of associates. Now, equating that with the mental demands of studying medical material, I really don't know if it would be comparable.

The "Subscribe to Pewdiepie" thing is genius. It is the perfect way to maximize the exposure of the act. By naming the (second) biggest youtube channel, every content creator on Youtube is going to have to talk about it. And there are definitely a few leftists in the mainstream media who will be stupid enough to blame Pewdiepie for this, meaning that youtubers will make videos about media stupidity, thus further putting a divide between the mainstream media and, well, everything else, and increasing the contempt the youth have for the media. Using a meme that is "trending" has the further benefit that just about anyone who tries to look up this trending meme will hear about it's use here.

Just listening to music on my phone I've already found a video made an hour ago by a video game channel about the Pewdiepie meme, where the guy said he "didn't want to talk about it" but felt he had to after "inaccurate reporting by the mainstream media."

Sure, it's a meme that is more mainstream and will appeal to a younger audience. But the intent was to have a wider audience understand the joke. William Shakespeare used toilet humor and crude sex jokes in his most famous plays. It's okay to do the same sometimes.

Also, I think it's funny. Part of the joy of a meme is to see it used in a context it was very obviously never intended for.

>alright and how much "physical" work did you do to reach such weight loss
In looking into the extended fast before I began, it is highly recommended you don't engage in strenuous exercise or anything of that nature. So I cut out my morning/evening run and just tried to stay fairly relaxed, I did still walk.
>like do you walk around much
On average about 4 miles or more a day at my work, which I continued throughout the fast.
>sitting/laying down lots of the time of the day
Only one day in the first week did I get home and feel like I needed to lay down, which I did for about 20 minutes. Other than that I never felt extremely fatigued.
I did have some light headed moments, if I got out of bed quickly or climbed 3 stories of stairs I would feel a little bit of light headedness, but nothing extreme.
>feel physically weaker as in can't lift as hard as before
I didn't attempt to lift weights or anything like that, but in lifting boxes of a decent weight I can't say I noticed a loss of weakness, but again I made sure to take it easy.
>for instance being tired sooner when running
I did run quite a bit one Sunday at an event with my kids, I thought beforehand I'd have a tough time but I did just fine, that was about 3 weeks into the fast.

It was just personal curiosity on my part.
>a translated version is considered as not whole by default because a lot of subtle meaning are lost through translation
True, the translated Bible would be lacking in this respect as well, being the manuscripts and scrolls used to compile it were "dead languages"
>it is better to stay on the safe side and not take the liberty of using a synonym for a word for fear of losing some subtleties
Agreed
>it is rare (at least from my POV, maybe it's different in USA) to see a christian priest (let alone a regular christian) being able to recite all the bible in one take
This is true, most pastors and priests will have a good chunk memorized, but as for the whole thing then no, although there are a few people who have
https://www.christiantoday.com/article/man-who-can-recite-verses-in-all-66-books-of-the-bible-from-memory-to-share-talent/62056.htm
>i wrote bible in "if an outside observer were to hear the origin story of the bible and then compare the book itself to the Judaic books" when i meant new testament
Ah, gotcha. The structure of the NT vs the OT is a lot different, but yes there are many common themes and many references to the OT, although the doctrine of what it means to worship and sacrifice for God is flipped on its head due to Jesus. But overall I see what you mean and I agree with your line of thought.

also is it a common occurrence to see people "bring politics" in the workplace?
because here in europe it's very rare find clothing showing support for a politician, most of the time it's strictly worn during political rallies and if you see someone wearing such clothing outside said events (let alone unironically coming to work with such clothing) people would look at them as if they're aliens from mars, even if they share the same political ideas

Based on what you said about Europe I'd say we are fairly similar, most people won't wear political shirts except at rallies, now I can't speak for a deeper red Trump area, there may be a few MAGA hats, but generally you don't see people wearing political stuff. Now on the other hand people will put political bumper stickers on their cars quite a bit in my area.
This is honestly only the 2nd time I've seen someone wearing a MAGA hat at my job, the first time being right after the election, for one day by just one guy.

IMO they try to capitalize on the political turmoil as always, i think they're salty that they've missed a shit ton of good opportunities in the last 10 years, so far in the world when they compare themselves to taliban who are finalizing their victory or AQ in Mali who managed to play a big role during the conflict or even in Libya where ISIS and AQ were somewhat relevant

No, I pretty much kept my routine, I usually sleep between 4 to 6 hours a night and I feel like I slept deeper than usual during the fast but other than that no change. During the day I didn't get sleepy, I still felt alert the whole time.

ok thanks for the answers
btw was it your first time you fasted or did you "train" before with other shorter fasts
also did you do something in preparation for the fast? (as in eating more to make fat reserves or on the contrary eating less to get accustomed to low calories intake)
and btw keep eating low quantities for at least 1 week before eating nutrient rich meals you don't want to die to potassium concentration unbalance

First time ever fasting, originally I was going to make it a 21 day but once I got that far I figured I'd just push it to 40 unless I started feeling like shit.
I started eating smaller meals in the week prior to starting the fast.
Yep, I've looked into refeeding syndrome. I'm still eating small meals, mainly soups and a little bit of of fruit and vegetables spaced throughout the day.

>Taliban Capture About 150 Afghan Soldiers After Chase Into Turkmenistan

MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan — The Taliban carried out the biggest known capture of Afghan soldiers of the war, taking 150 prisoners after they chased units into neighboring Turkmenistan and that country forced them back, Afghan officials said on Sunday.

The operation took place in the northwestern Afghan province of Badghis, and brought to 190 the number of soldiers captured by insurgents in the hotly contested district of Bala Murghab — with 16 more soldiers killed — in less than a week.

Last Monday, an entire Afghan Army company was killed or captured there. By Saturday, its defenders said the district had fallen mostly into Taliban control, though Afghan forces were still holding the district’s government center.

The latest capture was perhaps the biggest setback for the Afghan security forces since a Taliban offensive in August in the southeastern city of Ghazni killed as many as 200 soldiers and police officers, but few prisoners were taken then. The biggest recent capture of soldiers by the Taliban was about 50 who surrendered after a siege of their base, known as Chinese Camp, in Faryab Province, also in August.

Mirza Mohammad Yarmand, a military analyst and retired general, expressed alarm at the losses. “I have not seen or heard of such a big loss in the Afghan Army in recent years,” Mr. Yarmand said. “If these numbers are true, then it’s the biggest capture by the Taliban at one time and in the same area. This is a very sad incident.”

The episode consisted of two days of attacks by the Taliban in the Morichaq area of Bala Murghab against two units of the Afghan Border Forces. Early Saturday, 50 soldiers from the force surrendered, and an additional 100 fled Taliban pursuit and crossed the nearby border into Turkmenistan, according to Saleh Mohammad Mubarez, commander of the Afghan police in the district. By the end of the day, he said on Sunday, Turkmenistan had forced them back into Taliban hands.

Lt. Habibullah, a deputy company commander in Badghis who uses only one name, also confirmed the surrenders. “Turkmenistan told the Taliban, ‘We will give the border force soldiers’ weapons to the Afghanistan government and give you the border force soldiers, but the Taliban said that you should give the troops to the Afghan government and give us their weapons,’ ” Lieutenant Habibullah said.

On Saturday, some Afghan officials played down the capture, saying the soldiers who had crossed into Turkmenistan would be returned to the government side. Jamshid Shahabi, a spokesman for the Badghis provincial governor, said the escape toward Turkmenistan by the 100 soldiers had been part of a previously arranged security plan.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Qais Mangal, said that those who had surrendered were not regular soldiers, but irregular militia fighters. But numerous local officials said they were indeed regular soldiers with the border forces, which are part of the Afghan Army.

On Sunday, Mr. Mangal said he did not immediately have any further details on the border episode. There was no public comment by the authorities in Turkmenistan.

The Afghan authorities did send reinforcements to Bala Murghab District, which has been under heavy attack for two weeks, but local officials said that they had been insufficient.

“The situation is very bad: The district is on the verge of collapse,” Mr. Mubarez said. “The reinforcements have not been enough. The air force must help and launch airstrikes.”

Mr. Shahabi, the spokesman for the Badghis governor, said, “The air force is ready to strike but the Taliban use civilians’ homes as shelters, so the air force cannot launch strikes.”

Farid Akhezi, a member of the provincial council in Badghis, also confirmed the surrender of 150 border force soldiers on Saturday.

The Taliban wiped out an entire Afghan National Army company in the same district on Monday, killing 16 soldiers and taking 40 prisoners. Over the course of the week, 44 Afghan security force members were confirmed killed in Taliban assaults in Badghis, in addition to the 190 reported to be taken prisoner.

The Taliban said that they had taken the Morichaq area and captured all the Afghan forces there, but the insurgents actually had lower estimates of the number of prisoners than government officials had given.

A spokesman for the Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, said on his Twitter account that they had captured 72 soldiers and police officers in the fighting in Bala Murghab and killed many others. He also posted photographs showing what he said were prisoners; more than 60 are visible in them, although it was not possible to confirm the authenticity of the pictures.

Taliban treatment of government prisoners varies widely around the country. In some cases they are imprisoned, in others tortured and executed. More often, however, they are released after promising not to rejoin the fight.

In an unrelated attack elsewhere in northwestern Afghanistan, the Taliban overran an Afghan National Army base in the district of Qaisar in Faryab Province, killing 15 soldiers and five police officers in hours of fighting on Saturday night and Sunday morning, according to the governor of the district, Rahmatullah Qaisari.

“This morning when our forces went to recover the corpses, the Taliban had hidden bombs under the bodies, which went off and killed two policemen,” he said. That took the death toll there to 22.

Mr. Mangal, the Defense Ministry spokesman, said of the attack on the Qaisar base: “There were casualties, but I do not have information about the exact number. The attack was repelled.”

Most wholesome view of the camp and frontline yet.
ISIS fighters seen fleeing from defensive positions near water pumping station A to water pumping station B with what i assume is airstrikes following them first bombing near A then B.
I have painted the elevated water pipes in pink and previously mentioned pumping station can be seen from ISIS' view here: >>211487 >>211488
This is the frontline to the East (doubt SDF are trying to advance there since they have comfortable firing positions on the cliff) and i think the only area with a fluctuating frontline is the former evacuation corridor to the northeast.
The vehicle graveyard (which is considered a part of the "camp") stretches all the way to the houses in southeastern Shaykh Hamad (black circle) is where the real combat is and i assume ISIS have tunnels to these houses.
HAT (Kurdish anti-terror units) could be seen advancing a couple of buildings north of the circle 3 days ago here: >>211002

I'm frustrated about the geopolitical implications (for starters if T*rkey ships foreign jihadists in Idlib to Europe in exchange for political influence in Syria none of these vermins die on Syrian land), the fact that the MB has such influence in our regime and it isn't only Uighurs, they're saying all chink muslims are welcome.
More overcompensating islamist chinks who will lash out at our women when they get rejected (hazars are wrecking havoc already and they're mostly non-religious/shia i guess).

The field between the pink line and the Baghuz cliff has always been empty (besides the car graveyard along the road of course), considering SDF has total fire supremacy from the cliff it would be nonsensical for them to advance towards the cliff.

To be fair, i think they have made progress (nearly 200 fighters surrendered yesterday), but they've probably made another ceasefire agreement because of it and feel the need to report some gains.
The situation on the field i'm talking about hasn't changed and the focus is still on the main camp (no footage in the camp either):

Because trying to advance would just lead to more KIA, it's easier now that they're just a bunch of wankers on a field (no more solid houses for cover) to just snipe them from the cliff and call in airstrikes.

There's too much publicity, besides journalists all over the Iranians in Bukamal definitely has cameras pointed at the camp aswell.
There's also the speculations of high priority hostages being held by IS and the fact that IS are so harmless it would be bad PR to roast all of them when they're in such a pathetic state.

However that was uploaded after the suicide attack where a bunch of parents blew themselves up with their kids whilst entering the humanitarian corridor, iirc 2 SDF were wounded.

>New details revealed that Muhannad was standing post with another soldier at a checkpoint near the Syrian border.
>The vehicle approached the checkpoint at 10pm local time carrying the PKK members and Muhannad confronted them, demanding the paperwork needed to proceed.
>Muhannad ordered them to turn back towards Syria which resulted in a verbal confrontation that later turned into a fight.
>The PKK attempted to run the checkpoint so Muhannad was forced to open fire per unit SOP regarding Failure To Stop.
>So after Muhannad opened fire, PKK in THREE other vehicles joined the fight and ran both soldiers over. Muhannad's partner was killed instantly while he suffered a broken leg. Muhannad kept shooting afterwards.
>Muhannad wounded one of the PKK but was run over by the vehicle again and this time while he was unable to fight back, he was shot at close range with his own rifle.
>The unit that was attacked was Iraq Army 15th Division 92nd Brigade. This unit has been deployed in Sinjar town and its surroundings since last year when the PKK supposedly left the region.
>Sido Tattani of the Nineveh Provincial Council calls on the Federal Government to remove the PKK from Sinjar region, citing that their departure will help facilitate the return of IDPs.
>Today's clashes took place west of Sinjar, at the border with Syria. 15/92 had recently rotated a regiment to the border in order to relieve 15/73 who took over the strip last year with Border Guards 1st Region. The soldiers who serve in 15/92 are mainly from Tal Afar.

While we are on the subject, politically speaking are the native Swedes still pissed off at the current situation in Sweden? Does a tougher stance on refugee asylum look possible due to "right wing" parties or is it pretty much a foregone conclusion that nothing will change?

Of course people are still pissed but it's not like there will be a revolution any time soon.
There's peaceful yellow vest rallies against the mass immigration and multi-culti every now and then but most people are still keeping their fists clenched in their pockets.
>Does a tougher stance on refugee asylum look possible due to "right wing" parties or is it pretty much a foregone conclusion that nothing will change?
Nothing will change for the better until at the earliest next election and even then it probably won't lead to a full immigration stop and deportations en large.
Last election blackpilled me, i think the elections are rigged.

Jihad is far more complex than you can imagine. It's war against any non-muslim by all means availiable, at once. Financial, logistical, demographic, and with bombs, guns and swords. The moderates are the support troops, the radicals are the front line. The radicals blow shit up, kill people and fight raids. The moderates fundraise for the radicals, give them food, guns and ammo, shelter them, and recruit for them.
Here, have an autistic deposition of the entire concept taken entirely from quoted, cited primary sources.

Well that's neat, a Russian orthodox church in my city is being built.
Hilariously the commune and local media are losing their mind suggesting it could be a "weapon of influence" for the russians and a threat to our national security.
Imagine if our politicians and media would be as critical towards mosques (and especially salafi ones).

Heavy fighting around al-Hawl camp now, which is under attack from outside. Not just small arms fire, but apparently also DShks and mortars.

YPG seems to have taken defensive positions with Humvees and snipers to defend the camp. Shooting has been going on for more than an hour now, first thought this was Newroz celebrations, but apparently it’s an attack from outside.

So basically what I’ve gathered is this
-Daesh women attacked an Asayish guard for his gun
-tried to raise hell
-succeeded and now there are casualties.
At least 1 Asayish and 6 women have been injured. Also apparently two children are hurt. Some women may be dead.

Some wild claims coming from the Homs/DeZ desert:
>"Islamic State announced the killing of 29 Russian and Syrian soldiers in the Suhknah and Palmyra desert area, 2 convoys have been ambushed and destroyed and many weaponry and ammunition has been captured."
>One convoy was destroyed relatively close to Palmyra City, 20 km south of the city in the Sukkari area:
http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=34.380279&lon=38.306065&z=13&m=w&show=/36613651/Alsskkari-ruins
and the only attack with visual proof is this SAA video:
>Aftermath of one of the ambushed vehicles in the Suhknah desert, most deaths were inflicted upon NDF soldiers and with them Russians.
https://twitter.com/MapsSyria/status/1108868177847615488
It's the pro-ISIS diasporanigger MoroccanArab so we know he's overhyping it to the max and spreading wild rumours as usual, nothing besides an ambush on a UAZ is confirmed, victims unknown.

The lack of any reports or footage of dead IS in a long ass time makes me think SAA are simply too incompetent and/or corrupt to eliminate IS in the desert.
Announcing sweeping operations ahead of time isn't helping but even if they stay quiet IS probably have informants to warn them if big operations are happening. Mukhabarat has to step up their game, use smaller squads or SAA/RuAF should pull off some Vietnam rice-field fly-bys like the Iraqis:

First time I'm hearing a "Wadi al-Baghuz" mentioned, maybe they just mean the area in general (i.e the Baghuz portion of the Euphrates valley)...
I haven't seen any signs of a new tent camp being erected in Baghuz Tahtani so i'm guessing they're set-up further along the base of the Baghuz cliff between Fawqani and Tahtani...

BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 P.M.) – The Russian Navy has transported more heavy equipment to the Syrian military this month as the latter prepares to launch a new offensive in the Idlib Governorate.

Isik reported that the Russian ship was carrying desert camo Ural 4320 trucks that were destined for the port of Tartous in western Syria.
