So ive been spitballing the creation of a new chan. Its costs, the possibility of stealing users away from 4chan. Odds are it wont work but it might be worth a shot. the real problem would be if it actually does work. The cost per month on 4chan is like 6k to 90k a month according to moots old 201xs payments and a 2016 blogpost on 4chan.org.
What do you guys think? Is there a way around this?.
>Is there a way around this?
Your website could host a shop with goods made by the community and merch made in China.
Fwiw Josh Moon (owner of Kiwi Farms) created 9chan after 8chan was taken down and he said running an imageboard was the worst most miserable experience of his life, which considering all the shit he's dealt with is saying a lot.
If you want to try be prepared to get fucked with constantly.
>>384602I agree that it will be hell on wheels but. Honestly theres a lot i can do. I already have a few ideas though. I am just thinking i need advice on the technical side of things.
>>384600I dont have anywhere near enough of a baseline to suddenly accept the bandwidth for even 1/3rd of 4chan.
>>384599How much you willing to spend per month to keep it running and how much legal problems you willing to deal with?
>>384599only thing you will create is yet another altchan
here is bit of a list of how many of those there actually are:
https://allchans.org/2024/08/27/top-100-image-boards-august-2024/ >>384650I dont have a lot of money due to poverty
>>384687Maybe an adjusted 750/year. Legal problems would be dependent on who is hosting, and whatever local/national ordinances apply (Canada, for example, doesn't allow Lolicon)
>>384599>A new 4chan? Yes, us ponyfags have one. It's called mlpol, or nhnb if you're a stickler for rules.
>>384706NHNB is fine if you like HOAs
>>384708sounds about right, based on what I've seen about their rules page.
>>384696If you're tight on budget, I don't think that price is worth a handful of people posting.
>>384728Roughly $25/day, and it depends on one's level of commitment. How many years has Mlpol been sustained until now?
>>384695>>384696that seems pretty low what makes you think it will be so cheap?
>>384728I wouldnt bother to keep it open if no one is there, this is more like a gimmick to try and pull users from 4chan using intuition, but the longer i think about it the more i think iw ont be able to do it before the sites back up anyway. this is something i should have had ready if I wanted it to succeed.

>>384759Let's just say I speak from experience. It might even be as close as $1000, but around '19 it was 600.
>how big of a site
THIS one
>>384764NOW, pupper has put in COUNTLESS hours building a proprietary code, and staff in general has done a ridiculous number of 'rounds'; one doesn't get this kind of support
Don't look at me, I'm talking about Atlas for free usually. What? I'm not suggesting anything lewd!
Point being .6k-1k is your prospective per annual cost (probably less, depending of if you want nazi imagery; one imagines 'normal' ponies would be easier to get hosting for)
>>384762what, youre an admin? pix or it didn't happen
