Pioneer started out in 2008 as a remake for Frontier: Elite II for modern systems. Over time it became its own game with its own lore, but Frontiers spirit remains, and continues to evolve as a grand space travel, trading, et cetera simulation game. It is singleplayer only.

Everything required to create new assets is in the archive(except the tools), but here is a horn that you may use as mask. For stylistic purposes, I use web-safe colors (every channel has an increment of three, and is one hex number e.g. #fc3, #cc9, #36c, #fff). Use indexed color palettes and mogrify with imagemagick for optimal file size, otherwise use 24-bit RGB if opaque alpha values are required, for example, mouths.

I think I will do a Zebra species next, and then Kirin. May need look into a way to change species generation chance. I thought about making a Copper Top outfit for the police, or similar to the police forces uniform from Frontier, file #4 related.

Today I had a lot of time thinking again. Specifically I have decided to split up the pony races to species with one race each. This has the following effects:
+ Increases chance of a type of pony to be generated
+ Unicorn armor, and accessories, such as horn rings, (those are CUTE)
- Possibly break compatibility of saves, had the CMDR not chosen earth pony, or change appearance
Furthermore, the accessory and hair layers may be switched, to make earrings and such above the mane and more convincing. Then the nose layer could be used for accessories or features below the mane, such as sunglasses(that will be improved) adhesive bandages, even scars.
This also will break compatibility, so I'd say break it sooner rather than later. Save games can be manually rebuilt using the cheat/dev menu so I don't think it would be an issue to do that once.
More eye options is on the to-do list as well. Honestly I got lazy really fast on that front because they are a bit more difficult to make.
And as a miscellaneous change, I wondered about changing the species_0 to resemble Anons. The race_? would specify green, orange or whatever color. Those are a lot of files however but at least it's in this thread now. The other option is to outright replace species_0 with pony and create a pony galaxy. This would need many files but for now a wide variety of re-colors would do the trick. Pic related shows a texture used in the station model with human silhouettes, that will be edited once I make up my mind.

I left a few blank *.png in the unicorn accessories dir because I planned on making more types of eye glasses. So that's why that is a bit quirky. I'm not in the mood to work on this at the moment, so these things have to wait.
I have started work on zeebs but that will take a long while until I can release anything. So I layered some of the first, pic related.
The unicorns now have their own armor. If you are loading a savegame, your commander will most likely be a different species. Sorry about that.

The little additions that I've sprinkled in over the last few weeks have added up and I'm happy to announce this new release. All armor is completely new and modernized, and there are now more body colors to choose from, as well as eye shapes and colors. There are lots and lots of manestyles yet to be added but that's it for now.
Ziggas won't be available for a long while, unless someone else wishes to contribute.
I tested this on a cutting-edge release, freshy compiled. The new version of the game will have many new and exciting improvements! It will feature a really nice Natrix re-design, but what will be really interesting, is the new equipment system, which will be more communicative to the player about weight and available slots.
