So much death and destruction, and for what? Silver snorts, vowing that this death, and the lives of all those who gave their lives on this island, won't be in vain.

Точно так же, как и у неё, Сильвер?

Kira grimaces at the griffon. "Well...as long as we don't see any more of those...tentacles..." She shivers. "...I think we'll be fine."

One knocked unconscious by Silver.

One killed outright by Posey

One captured by Kira and tied up by Cavaliere

One downed by Posey and Cavaliere, currently dying

One got away.

Stained Sand, Silver, Cavaliere, and to a lesser extent, Posey, are all wounded in this fight. Probably Kira too

What are our HP totals? Cavaliere is 3/29, with 7 lost hitpoints to nonlethal damage.
And I know we have medical supplies, because we kept arguing about plans for entry and I tried insisting on designating someone to carry them. Silver probably has them.

Would you believe me if I told you that both time and privacy are at a premium? I mean, she can try. It's kind of like masturbating loudly in the open at the front door of a busy, open room everyone else is entering and exiting at a party, though.

This unicorn body is pretty close to the entrance into Cargo Hold 4. Zara Zama walks through the door, followed by Starfire, who prances in as if forced into the room. Mala follows close behind. With a paw he holds onto and guides Patient Pippette, placing a paw over her eyes as they near the corpse

Blackheel is already deep into the room, inspecting the contents, with Rustling Pine by his side

Somewhat near the center of the line are a trio of small beds, mostly on mobile steel frames. One is empty, one has noticeable blood on it, and the third has a pony on it. A stallion, somewhat small, light grey in color, on his back, a small rag over his eyes, ribs visibly above his belly, no clothing on, and either dead or comatose.

Nearby is a table and a few crates used as tables. An IV bag is set up, and on the tables are several medical tools, plasma, bandages, drugs like Hydroxychloroquine, Doxycycline, Penicillin, and Morphine. And yes, there are magical potions as well.

All Pipette sees is the eyes of a young mare, scared, not a warrior in the traditional sense. The eyes might be slitted, something like that of a bat pony - though possibly with just the barest hint of reptilian quality to give away her true nature as not quite a pony, unless she's just imagining things - but can she truly say they're so different from her own?

Kira does seem to be feeling at least a bit awkward as well, having her eyes be so scrutinized. She thinks back to the stories told to her by her cousin about desert lamias wandering the Zebhara, who have the power to hypnotize those who look into her eyes. She's not certain that the cousin wasn't making things up, but with all that she's seen today? It's not so unbelievable now, thinking that someone has the power to control you by peering into the windows to one's soul.

As the party recovers, Posey looks at the unconscious and dead with subtle but bitter scowl.

"These ponies were under the control of the Intruder, their servile opening mantras and wordless fighting was proof of that, but their tactics had no rhyme or reason. The beast knew of our intentions, and it had no reason to sabotage our efforts to fix the boiler, and yet it expended the lives of its thralls instead of merely summoning monsters. Worse, it compelled its thralls to destroy its own means of transportation to escape this island, even though it had other means to attack us with... Even if the Intruder is a creature too alien to comprehend the consequences of its own action in this timestream, Light Water should have known better than to destroy his own ship. I have seen wights with better discipline over their minions. Perhaps there are limits to the telepathic control of the Intruder, but its long range precise communication abilities contradict that hypothesis... The only logical conclusion is that even with Light Water staying remotely lucid, the Intruder possesses no tactical mind or capacity for higher intentions and is acting at random, like an amoeba absorbing all of the food around it until it explodes. What an absolute waste of power!"

She flicks the blood from her sword and sneers. Her eyes give off a magical glow and her horn surges with red magic as her mane stands on end. The deck trembles beneath her hooves while bullet casings and droplets of blood to levitate around her, shaking in a dance of arcane rage
"This is the Eldritch demigod what was supposed to reshape the world and free us from the shackles of demiurge?! This is the herald to a better tomorrow?! This is the one who is supposed to defeat death?! What an absolute joke! This is no shaper. This is no savior. This is no more than rabid dog that needs to be put down!"

How many magical potions are there? What kind? Are they labelled?
If they're healing potions, familiar creatures (most adventures, but not Posey) should be able to identify them by taste.
>In addition to the standard methods of identification, PCs can sample from each container they find to attempt to determine the nature of the liquid inside. An experienced character learns to identify potions by memory—for example, the last time she tasted a liquid that reminded her of almonds, it turned out to be a potion of cure moderate wounds.
Posey rolls her skills to discern them:
Arcana:
[1d20+11 = (13+11) = 24]
Religion:
[1d20+11 = (4+11) = 15]
Alchemy
[1d20+5 = (8+5) = 13]

Characters with ranks in Heal/Medicine might be able to roll those to identify them too.

"As a fellow warmagus, you should know. You might have studied for years pouring over tomes and practicing petty spells in the comfort of a guild hall, but only brushing close with death brings out your true potential."
She continues on her mane, making sure she looks beautiful for her future victims in the next battle.
"Superstition comes naturally in my line of work, and my pet belief is that fortune favors the bold. Second-guessing myself or hesitation would only show weakness. I am a warrior, and my conviction is my armor."

She pauses, mouth open as if in faux epiphany
"Unless of course you are suggesting that our little band of losthesome, cowardly, treacherous pirates should take our hostages on that torpedo boat and sail away to leave your crew to deal with that monster yourselves? I did not think you to be so considerate for criminal scum like us." she says, slightly mockingly
Her expression then softens
"I jest of course. Just be aware that I am resolved, despite the odds. My crew could leave with crumbs now, but we would not be in this line of work if we were not in it for the whole cake. I am resolved, and I suggest you cast your doubts aside too; unlike my crew, your sailors have no way out of this other than to win: you can only move forward. The beast wants you to be afraid, to question yourself, to waste energy worrying. Banish your doubts before you banish the beast."

Blackheel continues, more obviously irritated with Posey's attitude

"Well, now that you've answered your own question, I'll spell it out for you.

It probably thinks you're a threat. It's probably taking risks to stop you. My best guess is that it was hoping the steel bulkhead and the locked door would stop the fire from spreading. Steel doesn't burn. That's why its puppets retreated. That's why they locked the door behind them. And It probably hoped to lock that door behind you as well, or at least, it hoped the fire blocked your exit and the three of you cook alive. Perhaps it thought the fire would die when it exhausted all thre air in the cargo hold. There is no opening to the deck and on four sides the cargo hold is contained by steel. It may have thought the steel walls would contain the fire. I would never take that chance. There's plenty of wood and crates in here. While most of the thousands of tons of heating oil that used to be on this ship were offloaded at Everfrost, some barrels were reloaded and have fumes, some barrels are half empty. Maybe as much as a ton, maybe less, of heating oil is in this cargo hold. Some partly filled barrels might explode under the right heat, same with the butane torches. Fire may spread through the deck once it lights. But maybe the Entity thinks differently.

And suppose the ship did burn? All the Entity has to do is turn a few valves in its hiding hole in cargo hold 2 and sink the ship in shallow water. The water would protect it and the ship would be salvaged in less than a week. That destroyer is, what, an hour away? Nova Griffonia will be here in the morning. The only reason the fascists haven't arrived yet is because they are waiting for clear weather, assuming they aren't already here. There's already a pirate torpedo boat next to the ship. It has other options for escape.

Do you know that it doesn't have some kind of magical means to stop the spread of a fire? I don't, and I'm not going to ignore an open flame next to the only door through which I can retreat on the assumption that this this god-like being doesn't have some kind of magical way to stop a fire, assuming nine and a half millimeters of steel isn't good enough.

Or maybe it doesn't wish to kill you at all, but just to tire you so it can take over your minds and make you its puppets. Or maybe it doesn't want to kill you but only to delay you from reaching the Hippogriff before the GRU force arrives. Then it can sit back while you fight its enemies for it, in a reverse of what you did on the island.

If that kerosene had lit, its puppets would have just fled through the bulkhead door and locked it. They did that anyways. Then they could have locked the door behind you and let the three of you roast. Then it would be free to attack your snake and the few of us - they almost got your snake and the fascist commander here - from behind, take your zebra hostage, and assuming the deck survived, make her relight the boiler for it, and after all of that it would have had most of its puppets survive for when that destroyer arrives. And if it were wrong and the whole ship burned, all it had to do was flood hold 2 and wait for the destroyer to arrive. You lose. It does not.

Or maybe - maybe - it really is just a dumb animal that doesn't know what it's doing and is acting at random. I don't really know. What I do know is that you charged ahead to attack a single conscript and let your only mode of escape almost burn. You ignore basic awareness of dangers and your surroundings for the tiniest advantages. I would ask you who is the one lacking tactical sense. You're so very lucky it hasn't realized how easily you may be baited into a trap. A single puppet and you'd happily run next to a barrel rigged with explosives, or onto a false floor, or whatever it can come up with. You can be checkmated at the loss of a single pawn, and it knows that now. I know that now.

So I'd be a bit less concerned with the tactical genius of a delusional hippogriff and a bit more aware of the wooden floors I stand on."

Inside of the ship, in black and white, Posey sees a large room with a network of steel pipes along the ceiling. Though the room may in size be comparable to a chapel, its architecture could scarcely be compared, for this room is packed and busy with so many metal mechanisms, pipes, and equipment. The room is dominated by a structure in the center, a large, partly open island of steel, with cylinders and mechanisms holding up a steel container. Beyond this, the walls tilt in. Above this level is steel railings, and a walkway looking over them from above.

Mala, quiet as always, says nothing. His padded paws make no sound on steel or wooden floors. He moves his flashlight around towards walls and in near-every direction, as if frantically looking.

Blackheel opens his mouth and takes a breath, evidently to make another speech. Then he closes his mouth and says nothing. If he has a flashlight, he is not using it and does not have it out.

Stained Sand stands there, still holding the flashlight on Posey

Gnolls in D&D are of demonic lineage. There is a reason that in 5.5 they were reclassified as fiends. The Kaftar and Crocutta "gnolls" of Occupied are gnolls only by analogy. Unlike the hyenas of EAW they are not even anthropomorphic and bipedal. They are basically Friendship is Magic hyenas. They presumably have low light vision but not true dark vision. And even if they did, dark vision does not show, and it's much easier to know what you are looking at when you have more color.

Posey sees not obvious signs of critical damage, though there are holes that may be from bullets. There are also liquids on the floor.

The story that Posey told was based on the d&d myth, where Yeenoghu broke into the material plane and slaughtered countless sapient beings, and the hyenas who fed on the carrion in his wake mutated and became gnolls, spreading the gospel of wasteful violence. Of course, this has no actual bearing on the setting, just a myth that Posey read in some dusty old tome, that she committed to memory only because it fit into her doomsday prophecy. Something did respond to her prayer at that altar that night though... I think that should be Agire's job to study the details of.

"Blood... And oil." Posey states out loud, for all yo hear

"He witnessed the madness spreading among his crew, and with no hope to escape he turned his gun on himself, choosing to join the dead on his own terms than to become 'one of them', panicking like the prey animal animal he is, forced to be a warhorse by the machinations of this world and faced with horrors beyond his comprehension. Does that make him a coward, or is he really a hero? Does it even matter? His fate is tragic either way..." Posey whispers, biting her lower lip slightly and shimmying her hips in appreciation, her stoic and paralyzed face melting into something softer, more romantic.
Glancing over her shoulder slightly to check that she is not being directly observed in the darkness, she continues to prod at his corpse, gently grasping his head in her hooves and entropy flows from her little heart-shaped stigmata, getting a good look at his features, or what remains of them, and whispers to him gently as her unholy touch slightly accelerates the rate of his decay. She taps her horn to his with little red spark of magical intimacy.
"Alas, darling, cruel indeed had been your fate. Is your spirit truly sundered from this heartless world? Does no ember of vengeance yet gleam within your soul? For a wraith most wicked you could be, a shade to haunt these seas, an Allip of dreadful renown." she whispers

She then makes sure that her head is concealed by her hood before she kisses him, licking the blood away from his face to leave him relatively presentable.
She then pulls her head away and stands over him, staring down at his lifeless body.
"But feel free to stay still for now if you will. I will come to collect you either way, and then you can ride with us for all eternity."

Visibly reenergized by the tragedy and the taste of blood, she holds her head high and begins to turn away, ready for business.

Okay, checking the Repair skill, it can in fact be used untrained, and you can take 10 on it.
If we consider the boiler a "complex machine", it should be a DC of 20 to restore full functionality, and it should take one hour of work (which is also the same amount of time it takes to repair a damaged section of a mechanical or starship) with one worker. Multiple repair ponies making primary checks could reduce the amount of time, while secondary ponies aiding another could boost their skill checks (assuming enough tools are available).
Characters with ranks in relevant craft skill (Silver) could roll that as well.

If the remaining party members and non-repair NPCs all roll to Aid another, about half of us should succeed (the DC is 10), that could be some +12 to the primary with half decent luck, so the repair ponies should be able to take 10 even if they have low low mods (if they're repair ponies, I would assume they have max ranks in Repair/Craft though). We should have no trouble doing it within an hour.

>Players can take an active part in relighting the boiler
This is what I got:

Posey realizes that even if her mechanical skills are limited, she can still look the part.

Posey puts on a calm, energetic and cheery demeanor. She ditches her cloak and armor, and she restyles her mane by combing it back, curling her bangs and tying it with a bandana in a way that remembers a humble working-class mare with some strategically smeared grease (taking 10 on disguise, modified 25). Her unseen servant shines a light from behind her and her cutie mark "Rosey Ring" talent activates (the Mark of the Tattoo'd Mystic), the ring of fire on her plot glowing as her head is backlit by a ominous yet beautiful crimson halo, like a cruel angel, shining with the red and gold that is so common among propaganda. She strikes a cute, slightly seductive pose, swinging her hips and pumping her hoof with a smile that is evocative of contemporary Equestrian and Stalliongrad wartime workers propaganda posters that these sailors should be familiar with (taking 10 on Bluff for acting and seduction, modified 24 on both).

"Giddy up, everypony! It is always darkest before the dawn, but the dawn. Push to bring back the light! We can do it!" she says with gusto
Rally check to boost morale (+2 for creative use of disguise and bluff that exploits contemporary cultural iconography in the face of brainwashed soldiers):
[1d20+12 = (9+12) = 21]
She also makes a Charisma check, to further compel any pony that is already charmed by her gaze to push beyond their normal limits.
[1d20+6 = (2+6) = 8]
Posey gets to work assisting with the repairs. She has no ranks in relevant skills, but she has high Intelligence.

Repair check (+2 Synergy from Arcana ranks for using magical spells to assist):
[1d20+5 = (2+5) = 7]

Posey mostly aids by using her superior darkvision to identify damage to the boiler, using the glow of her horn to point out places that need repairs, and levitating necessary equipment with her horn, unseen servant and floating disk.

She takes 20 on Search checks to find and point out damaged parts of the boiler, taking advantage of her darkvision and racial bonuses (modified 25).

>7 on Aid another Repair
Despite looking gorgeous, Rosey "The Riveter" Ring's actual physical efforts to repair the boiler do not contribute to assisting the repairs in any meaningful way for the hour.
In fact, she might be a little bit of a distraction...

She does raise worker morale though. What a dedicated and hardworking working-class lady she is. Pretty too.

Fun Fact: the real life Rosey The Riveter quit her factory job after only two weeks.

This sums up all of Posey's exhaustive efforts on repairing the boiler.

Everypony else who isn't doing the primary check should roll to Aid Another so we can determine if we fix it within the hour.

Silver may not be a mechanic, but he sees if there's any of his smithing knowledge he might be able to put towards helping get the boiler up and running.

Weaponsmithing: [1d20+12 = (20+12) = 32]
Armorsmithing: [1d20+5 = (13+5) = 18]
Gunsmithing: [1d20+1 = (8+1) = 9]

I think at least one of Silver's checks should be enough to aid the repair ponies and meet the DC if they take 10 on Repair, assuming they have barely serviceable mods as lvl 1 characters.

Idk though. Do we succeed?

As Posey tells the creatures to engage their work, they scurry about, looking at the maze of pipes, or working with Zara and Cavaliere with the kerosene. Posey doesn't exactly know how the engines and boiler system work, but she does know how to make menials do their tasks, and she can at least make them busy.

>>195250
Silver has no idea how an engine works, or a boiler. But he does know how a sword works. Silver sees a pipe that has shattered and broken, either from a bullet strike or from a jolt through the ship, and is able to stamp another piece of metal around it, and attempt to weld it in with the torch.

Zara opens a slot.

"Okay. So it's a converted coal bunker. If you look here you can see that the bunker oil has congealed somewhat. Not completely solid but not flowing enough for our purposes. Okay so let's take a funnel... add some fuel oil here... And now inside of the furnace itself, lets add some fuel oil..."

Mostly the tasks involve holding the barrel up and siphoning it, almost like a gas can.

"And... That should do it. We just need to light the boiler."

Changing costumes for this scene is evocative of the cartoon, even if it's not very realistic, and shows Posey's chaotic side. Nice touch.

Cavaliere's skillset is not relevant to machinery but being an extra pair of claws should help Zara out with the fuel and lighting.

Cavaliere's grip slips, and he drops the barrel.

The Kerosene-like heating oil, somewhat like the bunker oil, and much unlike gasoline, has a low vaporization point, much lower than gasoline. The fact that the boiler room, Cargo Hold 4, the Torpedo boat, and so much of civilization all manage to smell like diesel fuel is a testament to the sheer quantity of it that gets spilled.
