The rear portions of the SSRS Kostroma have been cleared. The Boiler room draws near. Still that sound persists. Calling them.

does have a lighter, though he still finds it odd that he hasn't felt a need to smoke in a while...
>>195282Posey is the first to take the light, lighting a handkerchief soaked in kerosene and tossing it into the boiler, as a flow of the lighter heating oil is turned on.

>>195286squeakySilver can feel that underneath that thick jacket there is indeed an equine there - a bit larger and more muscular than he's used to hugging, but certainly smaller than a griffin.
"Well..." She turns her eyes to Silver's head if she cannot quite turn her own. "The water will start to boil... Maybe I should have made sure the water supply is still good... Uh, well the engine will take some time to work, but the electrical system is separate. It doesn't need nearly as much steam."
>>195284>>195287Cavaliere nods with relief.
"We can check off this task then and keep this boiler room as a shelter. The rest of us need to determine how we move forward." >>195287>>195288Silver looks over at the griffon, and nods. "If we just rushed right now against Traveler, we would be in trouble. There are still many unaccounted for sailors and pirates, some of whom are very important like Kostroma's captain. Our resident lamia also seems to believe she has plan to help them." Kira nods along in agreement.
Alright, so the boiler is lit. Now we just wait for the electricity to turn on.
>>195290Actually,no, we should leave now
>>195288"Yes, we must leave immediately. The enemy will know we are marching against them as soon as the lights turn on, and they will surely begin taking countermeasures once that happens. We must hustle to close distance between them before they respond." Posey says
"Onwards!" she says, trotting out of the boiler room to leave the cargo hold
>>195289"Our priority is to locate and eliminate Light Water now, before he moves or escapes. Once the leader is eliminated, the remaining ranks will be in disarray." she says, still walking
"I will go to the main deck to contact my servant. I can use it to distract light water by slamming the control tower, and stalking the skies above it crush him if he tries to flee. Since Monstro is mindless, the Intruder will not be able to determine its exact position, which will cause it to lash out at random. The rest of us can enter the lair to face him directly, and once I am within range to reach him with my spells I will try my best to incapacitate him and conjure more mindless servants in the midst of the assault to grapple the hippogriff." she continues
She swishes her tail
"Giddy up!"
>>195291Cavaliere grabs her tail to stop her from trotting out the room just yet.
"Not before we have a semblance of a plan, and a minute or two won't kill us. As for your idea, Light Water is important, but he's not the leader. That is down here with us, and is far closer assuming the hold entrances aren't barred. By your admission, you are better acquainted with such entities than the rest of us, and splitting you off while the rest of us cope against it is foolhardy." >>195293>grabs her tail to stop herYou

>>195320Cavaliere was already grappling her so, unless if I'm mistaken, there was no attack of opportunity against Kira. But let's say Kira lets her go once she's calmed down.
Cavaliere frowns at the vulnerable mare. She may, if it is possible for her to do so, detect a look of sympathy in his eyes.
"Under normal circumstances I wouldn't touch you without permission, but these aren't normal circumstances. If you had run off you could've thrown your own life away and endangered ours as well, so I had no other choice. >>195322>>195324Kira does actually have Improved Grapple, which avoids attacks of opportunity. In addition, Posey was already being grappled, so she wouldn't have gotten one on Kira anyways.

Blackheel just stares at Posey.

.
I can use Negative Energy Burst while grappled because it's (Su). It has no real use other than punishing grapplers.
>>195337We just have to decide on what we're doing first. Didn't we agree before that we were taking on the Fellow Traveler and then dealing with Light Water once he's in a weakened state? This is a better plan if we want to capture Light Water alive, as otherwise he'll be dangerous due to being a psychic conduit.
>>195338I thought the plan was always to eliminate Light Water first, to weaken the Intruder. Light Water is the one with mortal anatomy, easier to kill.
>This is a better plan if we want to capture Light Water aliveWhy? I was looking forward to killing him.
Partial View peals off to attempt to close some sort of panel. Or that's what it sounds like. Like trying to close a metal panel on metal
>>195337Maybe start by not fighting?
>>195340Okay.
I drank the dumb bitch juice this afternoon.
>>195337>I can use Negative Energy Burst while grappled because it's (Su). It has no real use other than punishing grapplers.Okay, and I can get why Posey was angry, but using that here would've been stupid for IC and OOC reasons. Thank you for backing off at that point.
>Why? I was looking forward to killing him. He'll be as valuable as the entire ship if we get him alive, since he has had a long direct link with the Fellow Traveler yet is not fully controlled. Without the entity, he'll be relatively harmless but will retain knowledge of it. Of course, one may argue we should kill him precisely
because his knowledge is too dangerous, but I don't think that would worry Posey as much as the leverage and financial return that he would get us.
>>195342He insulted Posey's craft. Posey already promised to kill him, and she keeps her promises.
>>195340Silver goes to see what he can do to help.
>>195344By this time, Zara has also come over, as has Rustling Pine. Patient Pipette is close by, though she likely never left.
It's an old panel that probably kept the old coal bunker closed. Oil seems to seep out. Rustling Pine is trying to close it, but the oil will not let him.
>>195345Silver inspects the panel, thinking on how he'd fix the problem as a smith.
Weaponsmithing:
[1d20+12 = (11+12) = 23]Armorsmithing:

[1d20+1 = (14+1) = 15] >>195346The problem is the pressure of oil trying to get out. Maybe force it shut?
>>195347Strength: Placing his hooves against the panel, Silver's muscles flex and bulge under his coat as he pushes against it with all of his might to try to close it.
[1d20+3 = (3+3) = 6] >>195349The oil seeps out of the panel. Like a tar. Silver notices that the pressure is strong. It is pushing out
>>195350Kira slithers over, looming over the otherwise large stallion who now seems so small in comparison. She presses her own hooves against the panel and helps with the pushing.
[1d20+3 = (1+3) = 4] >>195351>>195352It pushes. it presses. It does not yield. If anything, the panel yields. There is a yip, and it seems that more oil is coming out from elsewhere.
This is not the light, translucent diesel that flows easily. This is bunker oil, the left-over mass of heavy alkanes left behind in the refining process after the lighter gases, gasoline, kerosene, and diesel fuels have boiled off. It is so called because the only use ever found for it was in the boilers of ocean-traversing ships, where it is stored in former coal bunkers. This too, is a former coal bunker, and it was never intended to store such a liquid. It smells disgusting, is sticky, and is almost jelly like, moving slowly. But it isn't slow when it comes out of the panel.
>>195347>>195351Noticing the situation getting out of control, and not wanting the unpleasantness of being covered in heavy oil, Cavaliere rolls up his sleeves and chips in.
[1d20 = 5] >>195354More oil comes out. It is now obvious there is not only the one panel, but at least two. There is still another cap where oil flows out, and Zara attempts to close it, to no avail.
>>195355"Mala, help us out here!" the griffon commands.
"Got something you can plug that with?" he asks Zara, nodding to the cap.
>>195355Strength: Silver tries to save face in front of all of the creatures around him by trying to help Zara close the cap.
[1d20+3 = (16+3) = 19] There is a whinny, and it seems that perhaps there is another leak
>>195356Mala runs over towards Cavaliere, ready to do as commanded. There is a squicking sound. His paws run through oil.
Zara's ears are to her side, and she sits, pressing both hooves to her face. She is starting to get covered in oil.
"Uh...." Her eyes twinkle and her expression is grim.
"I uh, I uh, I'll find something. She stands up, though it isn't obvious exactly what she intends to do.
>>195357With enormous effort, Silver manages to close the cap. It helps that the cap is very small. The resistance is extreme. It would be easy to say that it is the pressure of the oil, but if anything, the pressure coming it is too great for its slow, molasses like flow that seems closer to a creeping fog. Perhaps it is the sticky, gritty oil itself that is blocking the cap.
All the same and with great effort, the cap is closed.
[i]combs tail to fix the split ends
>>195358Silver lets out a sigh of relief. "Okay, that is one of them, at least. Now we need to figure out what to do about rest..."
>>195359Cavaliere sees no valves
Blackheel shakes his head furiously, clearly disturbed
>>195360Her tail is starting to get covered in oil. It's like an especially gritty, dirty, used lubricating oil. Mixed with tar.
>>195361Oil is starting to congeal on the floor, moving around like pancake batter.
I am confused, why is there oil leaking now? I thought we fixed it.
>>195362Posey steps away from the oil and tends to her tail intensively. Her unseen servant behind mopping the oil.
>>195362Oh wait, this is the beginning of an encounter, is it? It's a black pudding, isn't it?
Just fyi, I have to sleep soon.
>>195363>>195362>>195359The scales on Kira's tail start itching, a bad feeling washing over her. "Um...oil isn't supposed to be acting like this, right?"
Silver desperately looks for other panels and caps that need closing.
>>195363The oil does not seem to want to move.
>>195364If you're talking about the ooze monster, it smells worse. If you're talking about the british food, it's about the same
>>195365Zara starts to furiously shake her head.
At least two panels and at least one cap
>>195366Silver tries the other cap, while Kira wraps her tail around a panel and tries to squeeze it shut.

>>195367Silver does not manage to close the cap.
Kira does not manage to close the panel
>>195368Perhaps a fuel valve leaving a bunker, but he doesn't see much
>>195370Posey is able to move away. It does not cover the whole floor, though more comes out.
On the one hoof, it looks like... well, petroleum oil. An especially heavy version. Not quite bitumen or tar, but more comparable to that than the transparent AvGas and yellow diesel fuel. It's sticky and unpleasant on the coat, but it does not burn.
But the way that it flows... It's resistant without being fast. It pools but its spread does not cover the entire floor. Indeed, it moves almost like ants, moving in a pattern. It looks supernatural to her.
>>195371>It looks supernatural to her."It is the Intruder." Posey declares, taking another step back
Is it a creature, a spell? A psionic power? Does she know how she can fix it?
>>195371Kira lets out an irritated hiss, though the motion looks more like her blowing a raspberry than a typical snake hiss. "This is
impossible! What kind of evil magics did that butt put on these? Ouroboros, halp!"
>>195371Cavaliere keeps looking about, and grabs at his flashlight to shine at the pipe. His boots make a
plop sound as he steps through the oil.
"There might be a valve here. It's hard to see." >>195372The best Posey can guess is a bitumen-kerosene mix being moved by telekenesis magic. But at the same time, Posey cannot see the tattletale glowing magical aura of magic. It moves almost like a hivemind of ants. Stop the puppet or stop the puppeteer, but besides that, Posey cannot say.
>>195373Kira proves herself to be adorable when annoyed.
Pipette and Zara are both trying to move away from the oil. Pipette in particular has no desire to touch it. Zara seems overwhelmed by the situation
>>195374Cavaliere can feel into the mess and try to move what he finds.
