The way I see it, if an Emperor or King of Kings has died, that leaves a vacuum that has to be filled by something. Much room to expand our influence. Much room to expand Port Barry's influence. So if there were a large number of cities that had agreed to pledge tribute, be protectorates or vassals of the Emperor, I'm imagining that if there is a new leader in the Court city - one who expects less than half the former tribute and doesn't kill wantonly - it'll be all the same to them. Many cities, most cities perhaps, will become more independent. New Tyrants, new Pirate lords. We'll have to kill them eventually to free this realm. But if we can go into the Court City, show that we are the ones who killed Kefka, maybe they'll let us in, maybe we'll have to fight off a council. I don't know. But if we take that city, we'll command far more respect across this realm. Many cities will agree to open up their gates to our missionaries and tradesmen. Many will want to become vassals. This is besides the possible vast wealth and Knowledge that might exist in that city.

I was thinking to just train them one at a time with the Handle Animal skill, buy them, or Intimidate them. The goal isn't nearly as much to gain cohorts as it is to fill the world with more intelligent, magical horses or monsters.
I actually had the skeleton of this idea a while ago, before Tracy even actually transformed; when I read on some fansite that nightmares were created unnaturally by subjecting Pegasi to gruesome, dark rituals that corrupted their blood and caused them to cast away their noble nature and become their own breed in Shadowfell. Nightmares were one of my favorite creatures even before I played this game (I'd never played D&D before, but I was always interested in fantasy monsters), so I gladly sprang at the opportunity to turn Tracy into one (she already has most of the behavioral characteristics anyway); I'm glad GM gave me the chance to play her as one, especially since it fits so well with the Ghost rider Theme.
