Thanks again anon. Still getting used to the game on my own. I'll get around to joining when I learn to not get headbutted into a ravine and slowly starve to death on 1 hp remaining, losing all of my gear and sending me back an age or so in development. I'm pretty addicted to it. Still learning the basics, but even early game is pretty fun when you have nothing and are trying to make clay items. It has a lot of potential and maybe given enough time I will be able to engineer a pony mod for it.

Not yet. OP says there is an existing server, but I don't feel I'm good enough yet to join, especially since survival is a bit tougher and combat less forgiving in this game. As I get more used to the game, I'll look into what it would take to host a server and mod the game as servers support modding.

The "OG" server as we call it is starting to get populated again after being pretty deserted for a while. It tends to go through cycles of activity and burnout. Don't hesitate to join. Most everyone is pretty friendly and can help you learn the more obscure facets of the game. There is no limit to the map size so if you wanna be a lone wolf you still can. The owner is very serious about keeping the server up indefinitely so building your first base on it just helps add to the history.

Anyway I wanted to bump because the server owner is doing an event:

It is working fine so far but I would really like to host on a dedicated linux box.
This is slightly outside of my skill level tho so I would be highly appreciative if anyone could help me out in this regard.

Bump time. Thought I'd update y'all on the game, post some more kino screenshots, and shill a little more.

First however I have some bad news. As of version 1.17.11 the game has updated its .NET framework to version 7. As far as I am aware this means there is no longer support for windows 7. This especially pisses me off because part of the reason I like the game is because it was allowing me to avoid the modern Microsoft antics of windows11/Minecraft_V19.84. On the bright side you can still run it on Linux and dodge bill gates entirely if you want.

Anyway I have learned a decent bit hosting my little experimental server and feel a bit better about hosting something more serious in the future. I will be forced to learn linux because of the .net thing soon so that's covered. Let me know what you guys would like to see in a mlpol tailored server. Also, the bounty still stands. If anyone can throw together a pony mod that'd be dope and I'll send you a few Monero. Not much but it's something.

I watched part of a recent "100 days in Vintage Story" by an experienced player, but 48 minute days, and animal breeding / crops taking literal hours to come to fruition seems somewhat unfun. Maybe if there's a good gameplay series (one episode at a time) so I can see the actual time it takes to make progress in the game it'll click better.

It looks fantastic, I'm just worried about the time. Best case, I might have an opening in my having schedule in a few weeks. I'm sure a group server would make things more fun. If people are in to it, then I'm willing to hop in.

If I won't be able to play and accomplish much with just a few hours, then it seems like a lesser experience. If I'm in a group server and I can do something like landscaping or building to help out, then that's something that'll build towards something bigger.

As for now, there's a couple of different games that have my attention in the short term. I'll try to pop by the thread once in a while to check up on things.

It is definitely a time sink. Resources are not homogeneous like minecraft. Each place has unique mineralogy and it is very easy for a new player to be stuck in the stone age from lacking a particular thing. For example sometimes you must travel thousands of kilometers to find limestone or hematite which is needed to craft with leather and make iron tools respectively. There are also alot of chores to do when playing solo just to maintain your base. If I were you I would pirate it or something just to give it a quick glance. Then if you want to play in earnest come to the grassless server and anons can give you a hand. (I think pirate accs work but maybe not cause we have had issues recently) The game is much more suited to groups as people tend to fill various niches and scale them up so that the excess can benefit everyone leading to more free time. It is easier for once person to scale up what they are good at than it is to solo everything constantly switching gears only to scrape by.

Small update. Pony mod is in the hands of a severe autist so it shouldn't take too long but we'll see.

Well, holy moly. I'm doing a bit of research on the game before turning in, and it looks like it's on the Humble Store. That makes it a lot easier to bite the bullet and get a copy of the game.

I don't know if he is the main contributor, as it appears multiple people are working on parts of it. But he did say he would fund anyone that would help him make a pony mod and then later he revealed that there was a pony mod, so I assume he got a crew together.
