Greetings. Welcome to the first session of /mlpol/'s first running of the classic third edition d&d campaign Red Hand Of Doom.
On this adventure, our heroes, currently three strong, will encounter dozens of trials that will test their strength, cunning, and friendship as they face an army of goblins.
If you'd like to join, there's still room for more in the party. Don't be shy to ask.
Our story begins in Elsir Vale, with our three heroes on the road to the town of Drellin’s Ferry. The three are seasoned adventurers, and exated heroes to boot. Having fought many battles together before, they are confident in their strength. Legend has it of a vast treasure in the Vault of Vraath Keep, hidden deep in the Witchwood; our heroes, have journeyed all this way to seize the vault for their own.
Despite that, they all have their own motivations to travel to Drellin's Ferry:
Sir Whiskers, a cunning and charismatic Tibbet Jester, is travelling to meet up with an old friend of his: Princess Princess Bagel Jennifurr Fluffykinz the fourth. He hasn't met his old friend since he was a kitten, and he's eager to meet with her again. She has arranged to meet up with him in Drellin's Ferry, and to accompany him on his adventure.
Sir Brozal, a mighty Orc Crusader of Pelor, has received a mission from a high-ranking Cleric of his order has received a powerful vision of war descending on Elsir Vale under the banner of a clawed red hand, and has sent Brolaz to the far reaches of Elsir Vale to avert impending disaster... Brozal isn't exactly sure if the vision was real, or if his master just wanted to get rid of him for the year, but he never turns down a good crusade.
Brother Chad, a wise and powerful Druid, has chosen to accompany his companions on their hunt for the lost treasure in the Witchwood. Sir Whiskers requested his aid because Chad is the most experienced woodsman he knows. Chad is wary of this region, for he's heard that it is ruled by a fierce and territorial Druid, but he embarks upon this jouney nonetheless, the secrets of the Witchwood too tempting to ignore.
...So tempting that he seems to have drifted off somewhere with his horse; probably fucking it again or something. Stupid hippie.
And so, let's begin:
>The afternoon sun beats down on you; the air is hot and still. The sparsely settled lands of Elsir Vale are starting to grow monotonous, with a seemingly endless line of dusty flyspecks of towns. The town of Drellin’s Ferry lies a few miles ahead of you. It’s a settlement hard on the borders of the Witchwood, and the best place from which to begin exploring the nearby forest.
This is the part where the players ask obvious questions that I thoughtlessly ignored in the first post, as well as implore about their surroundings.

>>135408You're like 15-ish feet away from the entrance. You could easily ride in with Misty's speed.
>>135409Essentially paint me a picture of what Whiskers' threats are currently.
>>135411Probably the worgs who'd track you down and eat you when their riders are done with Chad. Or the hobgoblin veterans that Brozal is about to get flanked by, or whoever else would have been preparing for siege within the past 10 minutes that the goblins were alerted.
The archers could hit you, if they recognize you as a threat.
>>135412>>135413Crud.
Uh, can Whiskers cast Grease on the worgs?
>>135414Not at this range. They're out of range, and on two sides.
Wait, one of them should be close enough.
In fact, both of them are.
I discounted the distance they moved. They're both 200-ish feet away.
>>135410I cast wall of smoke on the left side and i go into the keep with Misty to the right side of the courtyard.
(On the right side of the entrance is where i am, not right up in front of the goblins.)
>>135415>>135416I feel as if retreating now would be the best choice rn.Well, if it help Chad a bit, I guess Whiskers can go for a little greasing at the inrange worgs, sure.
>>135419If you wildshape and get into melee with me, I can help you attack with Vanguard Strike, but I really want to use Stone Bones on my next round or else Brozal might die.
>>135417*100-ish
Wait, idk if you can reach.. Shid.
As compensation for idiocy, I'm going to move one within your reach.
>>135418Left side of what?
>>135419I'm sorry, but what are you trying to accomplish with that wall? Are you trying to block off some of the goblins in the keep from shooting Brozal?
Bagel can do something, if she wishes.
>>135423Can she cast Mage Armor on the torch man?
>>135424On Brozal? That doesn't stack with his armor, and he's out of sight.
>>135425Oh. Nevermind then.
I guess she can support Chad by Burning Hands-ing the hecc out of the other two worgs. Does that work?
>>135421I might use it at a later point in time, you can use stone bones.
>>135422Actually i changed my mind, i go into the courtyard and cast wall of smoke on the goblins that are on the east side of the keep so they can't shoot arrows at Brozal.
>>135426Eh, they're out of range, but one of them seems to be charging towards you guys. She can hold a readied action to attack.
If you guys go north, you might be able to hit two in a cone, supposing they follow you towards the bottleneck.
>>135427Got it.
Now, let me see who comes up next...
>>135428Alright. Guess she readies Burning Hands after moving towards said bottleneck up north.
Whiskers, Bagel, do you guys want to move? You're currently the only chsaracters outside the courtyard, and it won't take a diceroll to know that the goblins don't seem like they're about to show mercy to a random cat...
>>135429Okay. Whiskers can ready an action too, if he so desires.
>>135430Fair enough. Let's just follow the group into the courtyard. They're pretty much food for animals otherwise.
I suppose the readied action can be to cast Grease, then?
Shit, I forgot about Jorr's movement.
Jorr's dogs seem to have their eyes on the larger charging dogs as Jorr moves northward to keep Brozal from getting himself killed.. They're just behind Bagel.
>>135431That works.
I have one action point left. On my next round, I will use Stone Bones and burn my remaining action point in order to initiate Revitalizing Strike with an extra attack. Revitalizing Strike is the last card I have to draw, then I'll be left with Mountain Hammer and Vanguard Strike.
Okay, the dumbass goblins seem to thing it's clever to push you guys you guys in the keep instead of shooting you at a range. They charge upward with lances.
Whiskers Greases the road as the worgs charge. One succeeds heroically on it's balance check and charges through, while the other skits across the road like a pet dog on hardwood.
Bagel immediately follows up with her low-power Burning Hands, which in this one circumstance combines with the Grease spell to make a greasefire. They all fail their saves and take 7 damage, while the goblin and worg who fell over are set on fire taking one additional damage.
One worg leaps right through the flames and charges towards Whiskers, frothing at the mouth as it attacks. It's rider steering it expertly with the mounted combat feat and....
Bites right into him! The Goblin's +4 racial bonus to Ride checks allowed it to bat away all three of Jorr's jogs who had moved to intercept the beast.
Whiskers take 10 bludgeoning/piercing damage as the Worg bites into him, and needs to roll an opposed check to see if he's tripped.
The Goblin and it's rider are still on fire. It's comrade prone, but still alive beside it on the greasefire.
The goblin screams in pain as it spends it's round trying to put out the fire.
>>135437Drat.
[1d20+3 = 17]<Opposed (Using BAB alone for this one. Tell me if other factors apply)
>>135439Can I move over to Whiskers from where I'm at?
As the prone goblin struggles in the fire, it's pinned in the chest with two of Jorr's arrows, killing it.
“What do you call a goblin with 20 arrows in his back? Not dead enough!” Jorr shouts across the courtyard.
>>135438Due to size difference, you are tripped.
>>135440I want to attack anything near Whiskers
>>135442You would have to move away from the guy right in front of you to do that.
As Chad conjured the wall, one of the hobgoblins on the other side shouts something to it's ally. You can't see what they're doing though.
>>135443Alright. I'll attack the archer with a full attack+burn an action point for an extra attack. I'm using Stone Bones on my first attack, and Revitalizing Strike on my extra attack.
>>135445Rolled 17, 20, 24 respectively. Damage rolls are 11, 7, and 9 for a total of 27 damage. Healed 13 HP.
>>135446I take five damage from my delayed damage pool
>>135444You don't have any action points left.
Those strikes are all standard actions. You can't use two at once.
I was going to use an action point for another one because I thought I had one left. Forget the last attack. I just use stone bones and my full attack.
>>135449You can use Stone Bone
or full attack. You can't take a standard action and full attack at the same time.
>>135450I guess I just use Stone Bones then. Just take the first attack.
Jorr already did his turn.
Whiskers, you may as well consider what you want to do. You're prone, with a worg and goblin right above you.
>>135452If I cast Swift Invisibility, does it provoke AoOs?
>>135451Alright. The goblin has taken 20 damage so far.
The goblin takes a 5 foot step back, and then retreats an additional 30 feet back, towards the wall.
He takes a potion and shouts something towards the stairs.
>>135453Since I'm too stupid to remember if a swift action spell provokes AoO, I'm going to say it doesn't.
>>135454Alrighty.
Whiskers will definitely cast that when his turn comes up, then crawl away.
Bagel will follow him along before casting Ghost Sound at the worg's side to think Whiskers is crawling that way.
The two hobgoblins on the other side of the wall of smoke can be heard clambering around the broken wall to the north, evidently intelligent and cowardly enough to recognize that crossing the wall is a bad idea.
One Hobgoblin shoots towards Brozal and misses.
Bagel is now visible, btw.
>>135454I cast call lightning on the goblin that took the potion.
>>135455Bagel would need to spend a standard action to make herself invisible again. Otherwise she can attempt to retreat while visible, either by using a 5 foot step (free) or with the retreat action.
>>135457Got it.
A roaring sound resounds from the top of the tower.
"WHO DARES?!" >>135458Invisibility should be better, considering the worg would be disoriented by the smell of the grease spell.
