The only good episode was the citadel because we were finally away from the main characters

The rest, however, is total shit. I had some minor hope that the last episode would be about confronting Evil Morty (aka The President), but no. Written by three newly hired female writers. This cements the fact that the show is practically done for. I'll watch the next season, but I'll pirate that shit and will probably skip over the obvious episodes. And holy shit, are they obvious.

This episode just screamed "hey look it's riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick" it gushed from its every fucking pore. It doesn't have any of its cynical, dreary tone, it's just Rick being a horrible mary sue for 30 minutes because the fucktarded lead writer thinks that's all Rick is - a god. And like a fucking god, every interesting developing plotline (and not so interesting bullshit plot established in the same episode) got tied up and filed away with one huge fucking deus ex machinae at the very end, so none of the shit that happened this season actually mattered at all. It's like a fucking fade to black gunshot at the end of a student film, transliterated and stretched out over thirty minutes. And then he woke up and it was all a dream of some Neil deGrasse Tyson fellating liberal pederast fucktard. The writer was actually in a mental fucking Asylum the entire time, gibbering and commanding an entire animation crew all by herself. Maybe that's some kind of Hussie-esque fuck you by Roiland towards most people. The post-credit scene doesn't help that possibility one single bit.

It was honestly really stupid from start to finish. The Rickshank Redemption (which I only have an opinion on because I've had adult swim shove it in my face 5 fucking times now) was a bunch of needlessly contrived bullshit under the guise of being "epic". It was like they realized they wrote themselves into a corner when Rick voluntary turned himself in so they decided to go over the top to distract people from the fact that they needed him to escape to continue the show. And since Rick is too smarter than everyone else he was the only one who could break himself out! If the plan all along was so he could destroy the galactic federation that's fine, but it still played out like a retarded mess. I also never expected pickle rick to be a whole episode. They literally wrote a whole episode around and idea for meme they wanted to force and it worked of course because the fanbase is cancer. They also keep setting up shit (bringing back bird person, evil Morty) and doing nothing with it that actually effects the main cast. I figure they're saving the big confrontation with evil Morty for the series finale because it's they only interesting angle they have, which kinda sucks because who knows how long they could drag this out. The worst part though was the fucking melodrama this season and the blatant feminism. Jerry being portrayed as being in the wrong all the time no matter what just because he doesn't want Rick fucking up his family while they want us to think Beth is too smart just like Rick despite how she can't tell when Rick is manipulating her is also kinda vomit inducing.

tl;dr adult swim makes it's first decent show in years, then proceed to fuck it up in only three seasons.

I don't hate this show but I don't get the massive internet fixation on it either. Like /b/ has a thread about it nearly every night, and it seems to be one of those subjects that just generates massive asshurt from all sides, and I don't get why.

To me it's just another low-effort cartoon series along the lines of Family Guy or Robot Chicken that you throw on while you're eating dinner, and maybe you get a couple of chuckles out of it. It's a shitty, poorly written show but that's basically what it's intended to be so you can't really fault it for that, you can get mad that this is basically where the bar is for entertainment these days, but you can't really fault the show itself, it would be like getting mad at a retarded dog for shitting diarrhea all over your lawn.

It's funny enough to keep watching, but it's funny in that retarded sort of way that makes you feel like maybe you deserve better entertainment than this, but at the same time you're too lazy to change the channel. I don't hate it, but I don't understand why it's such a cultural phenomenon.

It started off as a breath of fresh air. Adult animation that doesn't try to rip off South Park! And its first episode, it's like it WANTED to shit on every family cartoon sitcom cliche ever. But the thing clearly never comes. It makes you think something good is coming but it never does. Morty's building resentment, Rick having an in-universe reason to bring Morty along, EVERY CHARACTER TRAIT, they exist to let writers get out of having to be clever. Evil Morty's all this show has left and it's obvious "The hero only bad" shit, with an obvious "I didn't like the status quo so I turned evil" backstory. The writers apparently went to the BBC's Sherlock school of "Make Idiots think something cool will eventually happen", because it suuuuuuuuucks.

We just had a whole fucking episode of "Wow Rick!". Just 30 fucking minutes of mary-sue bullshit with the Designated Loser and an Obama president the artists apparently couldn't photoshop into Trump in time for upload day.

Fuck, if I could kill one cliche, it'd be something else. But IF I COULD KILL MULTIPLE, that "This designated loser exists to lose and suck so the hero can look good" thing would die too.

The episode wanted to be fucking Road Runner, and it didn't work. It wasn't funny, visually interesting, or worth watching.

The show only knows cliches. The show only knows cliches, and it thinks either doing the opposite of these cliches or not doing them and sucking itself off for doing them, is comedy. It's not just leddit, it's SJW-owned Tvtropes.

The things I liked about the were two things.
First it was rough and cynical. Maybe I just like edgy shit but blood and gore a definetly a plus. Exposis hippocracy and the likes was cool.
The second thing was it made me think. Relationships, science philosophy and trivial stuff like what are the characters backgrounds and how to interpret things.
Like the main Morty is trapped in a world with a Rick that is not his real granpa and a family that is not his own.
His real granpa is most likely dead and his sister and parents are left in a world that was fucked up by Rick.
Why Rick even gives a fuck about him and his inner conflicts.
Then there are things like Ice-T. It is a being that was there since before the dawn of times and Rick says "Take it from me: you can't keep on not giving a fuck forever" while he has been doing it for 30 years and that convinces a being that did that for billions of years?
Why don't they expand on this?
Instead of shedding some light on the citadel and evil Morty we just get the most pleb episodes so far.

I've only caught about 1/2 of Rick and Morty, its often playing in the background. What I have seen, I find utterly hilarious. There are so many layers of subtle humor in the writing that I think anons are overlooking that are coloring their opinion of it. For example, as Nazi Horsefuckers, I would think that there would be a greater appreciation for the "Toxic" episode given that nazi horsefuckery is largely regarded as toxic by normies and the aggregate society. Yet, in the episode the toxic versions are more true than the 'pure and clean' versions. There's a metaphor there.
Another example is Pickle Rick. Yeah I said it. At the outset of the ep its all about Rick trying to get out of what he feels is bullshit. Instead, he ends up almost dying and being put in a desperate and helpless situation, which he responds to by surmounting all obstacles with such ridiculous (it is, I admit) ingenuity and resolve. To me, that's the take-away from the episode; if a situation seems hopeless, its cuz you've given up hope. Rick never stops believing in himself and finds a way to come out of it.
I appreciate that R&M may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I regularly lol at stuff I hear from the next room, let alone when I watch directly. Its not MLP tier, but I think its better than ALOT of animated/contemporary shows and media.

Kid, drop the "I'm persecuted" act. And drop the "We should love this show, it's actually brilliant" shit. That "Muh toxic" episode you mentioned first claimed everyone's toxic form is based on what they personally consider Toxic. The episode was shit, it just threw a bunch of shit at the wall, and if you're emotionally invested in that shit, you can rearrange the shit and paint a pretty picture "Hidden in the shit" with the shit.

As for the Pickle Rick, it was exactly that. A mindless trendy memefest where Rick spends most of the episode dragged around by the hands of the creators, who made these bullshit fuckoff machines to give him rat body parts. At the end, there was more of that "You're really fucked up" shit BBC Sherlock did, it doesn't affect Rick or change a thing, it just makes the authors and readers feel "Clever" for liking a "Clever" character while also feeling "Clever" for "Knowing" the character is "Like, totally garbage".

Fuck, you might as well claim Steven Universe is subversive genius and anti-SJW by "Acknowledging" that women in positions of power are people too/can be flawed evil overemotional petty lying feefees-obsessed incompetent morons barely holding it together too, and that the Coconut Guns being shit guardians for Steven and the Dad being a better parent despite being a designated loser is witty social commentary on the "But I'm da woman!" bullshit where dominated gender courts would rather give the kid to the women, or the friends of the woman, than the man no matter what would be best for the child. Like all "X is actually the opposite of what it is" theories, it falls apart once you blink twice, put the out-of-context stuff back into the context of the show, and watch the show being itself. If the writers MEANT for the CGs to be shit guardians for Steven, the """Overly-strict mom""" of connie the obligatory black that's smarter and better than the hero with or without powers(And even gets to use his ancestral sword for fuck's sake even though it belonged to his mom, whose unoriginal lich soul gem thing is now empowering him)... wouldn't immediately fall in love with the CGs after witnessing them threaten to starve Steven (And then drop that down to a permaban on TV) for fucking up and being a tard.

I sat through three episodes of Rick's preachy "nothin matters but science kiddo" and ensuing techno-magic and just couldn't take it anymore.
The writing reminded me of GTA 5: goes out of its way to make a semi-believable world, and then squats over, voids its bowels, and starts rubbing shit all over itself, hoping that you'll laugh at it. But the end result is often more pitiful than humorous. That scene with the leprechaun, for example - it felt like it was written by a 12-year-old who spent a little too much time on /b/. So yeah, I get the cries of LEDDIT and so on, because there is nothing deeper or truly worthwhile to the show as far as I can tell, it's just the new Family Guy/South Park/whatever. Not my cup of tea.

Alright, lets start with Pickle Rick.
The story - aside from the obvious literal storyline - is of a guy who is "way above" psycho-analysis, even though he CLEARLY needs it. His attempts to elude it (one finds their destiny while trying to avoid it - the turtle) with a ridiculously over the top and clearly planned out device renders himself helpless and useless. This design almost gets him killed, and yet through it he is able to manage the impossible, screwing rat-parts to himself and murdering the fuck out of all comers (and there are many comers). In defeating THAT situation, he finds himself in a redemption scenario (remember, this is cuz he didn't want to see a shrink) with some crazed assassin who is being blackmailed by an evil corporation. He surpasses and frees the assassin, in the process realizing that dealing with his family issues COULDN'T be more difficult than being turned into a pickle, left to die, rat-body, murder, etc., and finally becomes willing to participate in a manner that might actually benefit the family (cuz so far, really?). Morty and his sister (w/e) get to see a new facet of how assed their family is, and to top it all, if he HADN'T saved the assassin, he and Morty would'a got brained by ANOTHER complete psychopath.
