This thread is for relaxing with a pipe or cigar. Stoners and drunks already have their own thread.

What is your favorite brand of cheap cigars? I like Cheyennes.

I took up pipe smoking during the pandemic, one of the few bad habits I ever picked up that I'm actually glad I picked up. Smoking while reading a book is especially enjoyable. It's also nice on a camping trip or on the porch, or in some other outdoor situation.

If I'm going to have a cigar I usually prefer to spend a little money and get a good one. I'm also not super knowledgeable about cigars, so I usually just aim for one that smells nice and has a respectable price tag. When I was like 18-19 though I used to smoke Backwoods because they sold them at the gas station I worked at. I was too square to realize that people mostly just bought them to use as blunt wraps, so I bought them and actually smoked them as cigars. I remember liking them back then, but I'm a little afraid to try one now; I'm sure they're just made out of whatever tobacco gets swept off the floor.

I call them Vapists because I'll be walking through town, smell something sweet and vanilla scented, turn a corner and there's Kevin puffing away on his little tube full of chinese chemicals.

I'm glad you took up a pipe. I just introduced a friend of mine to it the other day, and he as a cigarette smoker took to it like a fish to water. It's always so nice to see people enjoy tobacco in its most flavourful and intuitive form.
As far as cigars are concerned, might you be able to suggest one for a pipe smoker's palate? I'm told anything sweeter with virginias rolled up into it is preferable. I'm not a cigar snob at all, but I make it a ritual to smoke at least two a year when I take certain trips. I've had good luck with Rocky Patels but have mostly taken to Davidoff stock, mostly anything that doesn't seem overly cheap.

What kind of blends are you into? I almost exclusively smoke English and aromatics, but non-aromatics aren't bad either. So long as it's not anything full of burley.
>>26006
I'm not particularly fond of vapelords either. I'd sooner take my chances with actual tobacco (which, if purchased from a legitimate business, contain little more than preservatives and the tobacco itself.)
And to make the thread a little more interesting, do any of you happen to cellar your pipe tobacco?

Nor would I expect you to. Aromatics and anything with burley in it ages poorly. I find that English blends age wonderfully though, even particularly strong lat bombs.
Pic related, it's one of the best entry-level English blends that's perfect for cellaring.
What kinds of pipes does /mlpol/ smoke out of? Hardwoods, meerschaum, cobs?

It's an old favourite of many, and for good reason. A relative of mine would only ever smoke that, and his house was perfumed by the sweet smell constantly.
I've gotten more into English blends what with Fall arriving soon. Yet I picked up some strawberry daiquiri flavoured tobacco that I've been meaning to finish off. It's nice.

Early Morning Pipe was the first tobacco I tried. I'll get some more and try aging it, from what I remember it was quite pleasant.
>pipes
I've got two k&p petersons, a falcon and a churchwarden. The falcon is my daily pipe when out and about, relatively cheap so I wouldn't be too bothered if it got lost/broke. I keep my petersons at work, and the churchwarden is my reading pipe.

a pone friend introduced me to cigars. I've always been against putting stuff in lungs, but cigars and pipes are not really like that, so I gave it a shot.
took a bunch of cigars to mare fair and had a couple and shared most of what I had.

I just can't smoke the whole thing unless its really small. I puke from smoking a whole normal sized cigar, so I only do about half of one. maybe pipe is more my speed, though I wouldn't smoke but maybe once a month. Maybe a bit more if friends are around and want to have a round.
Never smoked a pipe before. Thoughts?

Be sure to research the water bath and paraffin jarring methods. If you need help, let me know. You'd be interested in how certain blends of pipe tobacco age differently. For each tin, you can get a different experience.
As far as pipes are concerned, I've two briars, Doctor Grabow Dukes, restored by a pensioner. They smoke wonderfully, are sturdy and have character. I'm a minimalist at heart, so only a basic aromatic/English rotation for me.
>>26029
Hey mate. If you want to start small, you can always get a lark pipe (read: briar you use almost exclusively on short breaks) or one of those tiny novelty hardwoods you seldom find at headshops or tobacco stores. The type of pipe tobacco you smoke is also endemic to how much nicotine you absorb - don't breathe any of it in, and even then, practise your DGT (Delayed Gratification Technique.) The more you smoke, the more you'll get used to the nicotine in pipe tobacco being absorbed through your sinus membranes. I think it would be perfect, especially since pipes have such a finer control over nicotine dispersion compared to cigs or cigars. If you really wanted to, you could lightly pack a corncob pipe with some Prince Albert or a gently sweet black cavendish blend and puff while experimenting with packing, lighting, tobacco types and DGT.

Sorry for the delay. I've not smoked clay pipes before, but have had the privilege of enjoying tobacco out of a meerschaum pipe (which is similar in some ways.) Unless you have hard data verifying that the materials and printing process yield food-grade or a similarly non-toxic material basis, I'd rather you purchase a clay pipe that was manufactured or professionally kilned. If you've a pipemaker or a master craftsman in your area, it could make for an interesting request, however there are numerous specimens you could procure online. Some of the entry level clay pipes with synthetic stems don't cost much.
If you did want to go the artisanal route, I'm told that stoneware clay is preferable and it must be kiln-fired, as air-dried clay is toxic. The jury's out of glazing, but am similarly shown that glazing is preferable as it gives shiny finish and is easier to clean in addition to sealing the clay's surface.

What sort of clay will you be using?
As far as my own piping is concerned, I visited a friend's house today, whittling down the baggie of tobacco I have. I need to sweeten my pipe (it's a bit acrid to the taste) yet I went through several bowls during card games. It was incredibly nice.
