This is a thread for all of those little features on 4chan, addons, or wherever else that you miss and would like to have here.
126 replies and 43 files omitted.
A new thread for this? Okay. it's organized
Re-requesting adding a thread-watcher
The 4chanx way is ideal, but anything is better than nothing. For those who don't use 4x
>floating window that lets you keep track of every thread you watched.
>You can watch or unwatch with keyboard shortcut W.
>Watched threads keep track of which page a thread is on (useful on faster boards)
>You can track watched threads per board or all.
>Thread watcher has a red color when its on page 9-10
Think that's about it. And the 4x way auto subscribes you to watching a thread if you make a reply.
>>9226SHORTEN THE FILENAME HOLY SHIT ITS AIDS
>>9227>And the 4x way auto subscribes you to watching a thread if you make a reply.Requesting toggle option in settings for this behavior if implemented
>>9228Perhaps a way to hide the generated filename and only show the original name? I don't see the point in showing the generated filename by default in the first place.
Pressing update on the bottom of the page shouldn't scroll you to the new bottom, instead it should keep your current scroll progress.
Sometimes auto update scrolls me to the top of the page if I am switched to another tab, annoying.
>>9231This. Other tabs I have at the bottom constantly "read" new posts without me looking. I have to scroll up a bit to stop the auto-scroll behavior from messing up my stopping place.
>>9227straight up what i came here to post lel
i know this site isnt and realistically wont ever be as fast as 4chins but ive used 4x for so long it feels wrong to not have a threadwatcher on the site
>>9233>>9227Also forgot that 4x will link to an archived version if the thread has been deleted/archived. This might not matter as much on a slower site, but auto-linking to archives is pretty nice.
>>9226please implement thread watcher from 4chan-x(t)
also add a option to replace these shitty filenames with the original filenames
>>9235oh and catalog for overboard would be nice
>>9235No idea if 4chanx support is possible but having a thread watcher at least would be nice
>>9235I think these filenames are a result of encryption on upload. But now that you've pointed it out, it would be a shame to lose manually named filenames that are a big part of 4chan culture.
Seconding the above (filenames and watcher). I'm here to suggest scrolling improvements:
>threads remembering your "last read" position and autoscrolling there once you reopen them (I think this would be crucial with a thread watcher where you don't keep every thread permanently open in a tab)
>the unread post count updating dynamically as you scroll new posts into view, rather than only resetting to 0 once your reach the absolute bottom of the page
>posting a quick reply should also not immediately scroll you to the bottom of the page, right now this makes it very difficult to catch up to a longer thread and reply as you go
Also
>quick reply window should either remember its last position or default to somewhere like the top-right corner, rather than popping up in the dead center of the screen each time it's opened
>and a very small one but it seems like it's not possible to resize the QR textbox vertically? I can only resize it horizontally
Regarding filenames, I'll seriously miss the timestamp based ones, because for the last decade I've been using that to sort my files and the UUIDs will not fit into that at all. But I imagine that's probably not possible in the existing chan backend? If so just storing the original filename (with an option on upload to wipe it) would be cool.
And another tiny thing would be an option on upload to alter the MD5 of an image (e.g. randomly alter one pixel by 1 r, g or b value). But only as a nice-to-have after you've got free time.
[Read more] Defaulting to the catalogue view would be nice.
>>9239>>9240>>9241>>9242Will look into these and see what I can fix.
>>9241>posting a quick reply should also not immediately scroll you to the bottom of the page, right now this makes it very difficult to catch up to a longer thread and reply as you goYes, I will make fix for this so the scrolling don't happen
>it's not possible to resize the QR textbox vertically? I can only resize it horizontallyIf you resize the Quick reply dialog box (bottom right corner, the textbox should expand accordingly. I know it is not best UX placement of resize option.
>>9242>the page suddenly snaps up to focus the static formI know that pain, I will see what I can do to try to fix that (been on back burner as it is not too often you stumble on it).
>a "mark as (You)" buttonIf you click the arrow left of poster name you can choose "Add (You)" to mark it as (you). I might not have used best wording when I created that menu.
[Read more] >>9241I'll agree with that. Some people prefer not using the catalogue.
>>9243Cheers m8
>>9243thanks m8
>If you resize the Quick reply dialog box (bottom right corner, the textbox should expand accordinglyThe UX is actually the same as on 4chan and 4chanx, but for me it only allows horizontal resizing.
I guess this might just be a me issue. Regardless it's a pretty minor niggle so feel free to ignore, all the other stuff's way more important anyway.
>If you click the arrow left of poster name you can choose "Add (You)"Oh amazing, my problem was not the wording it was that I was looking for the arrow somewhere around the ID and post number, not on the left side of the entire post header. That's just me being retarded and too used to the 4chan(x) UI. Actually I think when I first switched to 4chanx I couldn't find the post options arrow either because it moves it relative to vanilla 4chan, so yeah it's just me lmao.
If you want to adjust the wording I think similar functionality in 4chanx and mobile apps uses something like "Mark as (You)" and "Unmark as (You)", but it's not a big deal.

>>9246Is the list in "help" section in the options incomplete?
>>9247>>9248Was just about to suggest looking there.
>>9248>>9249oops I'm blind negro, sorry
>>9230Thinking a bit more on this, could be you're seeing the MD5hash as the first file? I don't really see much of a reason anyone would care about a visible hash if that's the case and I support a default hiding of the jargon string
>>9226It would be nice to be able to see the date/time stamp of the most recent post (and I suppose OP too) in a thread in the catalog by, for example, having a tooltip appear when you hover your mouse over a thread.
>>9244>>9245* Fixed so that reply don't scroll you down to your post anymore.
* And added option to make board links into direct catalog links.
Will need reload of page to get the new js. Let me know if there is any problems.
>>9254Extremely based. Catalog links work, testing the autoscroll on reply
>>9254>new option works a treatAbsolutely stunning, thank you! Have a delicious marshmellow ponut for your efforts.
>>9254thanks
I have a problem with auto-updater: if I scroll down to the bottom of a thread page, leave my tab and wait for new posts, sometimes posts are read automatically, and I get no special favicon icon displayed
>>9226Not really an issue on desktop, but when phoneposting the Quickreply window shrinks when you add an image, thus making triple checking for typos a challenge. Would it be possible to change it so the window adjusts accordingly? Thank you for the catalog feature.
Also just noticed the quickreply window goes away when scrolling to the top of the page. Very clever.
>>9254Good improvements.
The boardlink at the top center still links to a board index, while the board link in the list brings me to a board catalog
I know this site already has video with sound support, so some 4x style toggle autoplays in the options for gifs and videos could be a nice QoL bump.
Dedicated thread reply tracker tab
Got couple:
Subject isn't in quick filter menu, but you can set Subject filter through options manually. So quick link pls.
Ability to add filters from catalog view. Maybe add arrow dropdown menu thingy there.
There doesn't appear to be any functionality for hiding threads entirely.
I tried filtering a thread's OP and it still shows up on the front page as well as the catalog.
>>9265i noticed the same
as traffic escalates in the coming days i would not mind a way to hid the on coming shitposts (not to mention a few that i already want to hide)
>>9265Added function to filter OPs in board view.
Working on filtering in catalog.
>>9312>>9310Filter should now hide filtered threads in catalog also.
>>9313if you mean by hiding that can't see it at all, then its not working, went through different mutations of STRIPED in Subject with regexp toggled and not toggled, still no matter what i added, can see thread in catalog. meaning that even /^STRIPED$/ doesn't work. Only filter that seems to work is image spoilering as seen here
>>9314.
Also filter list is bit rough as it needs refresh to see changes.
>>9315Click the Arrow next to name and select
Add Filter > Post+
But I will look into adding the text search option too.
Shift + Enter to submit a new post on the quick reply would be nice, but doubletabbing works.
On the homepage, both the [recent imgs] and the [recent posts] column could link to shortened threads, to save bandwidth on both ends.
So change the link from
mlpol.net/board/thread#post towards
mlpol.net/board/thread@50#post
