A new thread for this? Okay. it's organized
Re-requesting adding a thread-watcher
The 4chanx way is ideal, but anything is better than nothing. For those who don't use 4x
>floating window that lets you keep track of every thread you watched.
>You can watch or unwatch with keyboard shortcut W.
>Watched threads keep track of which page a thread is on (useful on faster boards)
>You can track watched threads per board or all.
>Thread watcher has a red color when its on page 9-10
Think that's about it. And the 4x way auto subscribes you to watching a thread if you make a reply.
>>9226SHORTEN THE FILENAME HOLY SHIT ITS AIDS
>>9227>And the 4x way auto subscribes you to watching a thread if you make a reply.Requesting toggle option in settings for this behavior if implemented
>>9228Perhaps a way to hide the generated filename and only show the original name? I don't see the point in showing the generated filename by default in the first place.
Pressing update on the bottom of the page shouldn't scroll you to the new bottom, instead it should keep your current scroll progress.
Sometimes auto update scrolls me to the top of the page if I am switched to another tab, annoying.
>>9231This. Other tabs I have at the bottom constantly "read" new posts without me looking. I have to scroll up a bit to stop the auto-scroll behavior from messing up my stopping place.
>>9227straight up what i came here to post lel
i know this site isnt and realistically wont ever be as fast as 4chins but ive used 4x for so long it feels wrong to not have a threadwatcher on the site
>>9233>>9227Also forgot that 4x will link to an archived version if the thread has been deleted/archived. This might not matter as much on a slower site, but auto-linking to archives is pretty nice.
>>9226please implement thread watcher from 4chan-x(t)
also add a option to replace these shitty filenames with the original filenames
>>9235oh and catalog for overboard would be nice
>>9235No idea if 4chanx support is possible but having a thread watcher at least would be nice
>>9235I think these filenames are a result of encryption on upload. But now that you've pointed it out, it would be a shame to lose manually named filenames that are a big part of 4chan culture.
Seconding the above (filenames and watcher). I'm here to suggest scrolling improvements:
>threads remembering your "last read" position and autoscrolling there once you reopen them (I think this would be crucial with a thread watcher where you don't keep every thread permanently open in a tab)
>the unread post count updating dynamically as you scroll new posts into view, rather than only resetting to 0 once your reach the absolute bottom of the page
>posting a quick reply should also not immediately scroll you to the bottom of the page, right now this makes it very difficult to catch up to a longer thread and reply as you go
Also
>quick reply window should either remember its last position or default to somewhere like the top-right corner, rather than popping up in the dead center of the screen each time it's opened
>and a very small one but it seems like it's not possible to resize the QR textbox vertically? I can only resize it horizontally
Regarding filenames, I'll seriously miss the timestamp based ones, because for the last decade I've been using that to sort my files and the UUIDs will not fit into that at all. But I imagine that's probably not possible in the existing chan backend? If so just storing the original filename (with an option on upload to wipe it) would be cool.
And another tiny thing would be an option on upload to alter the MD5 of an image (e.g. randomly alter one pixel by 1 r, g or b value). But only as a nice-to-have after you've got free time.
Defaulting to the catalogue view would be nice.
>>9239>>9240>>9241>>9242Will look into these and see what I can fix.
>>9241>posting a quick reply should also not immediately scroll you to the bottom of the page, right now this makes it very difficult to catch up to a longer thread and reply as you goYes, I will make fix for this so the scrolling don't happen
>it's not possible to resize the QR textbox vertically? I can only resize it horizontallyIf you resize the Quick reply dialog box (bottom right corner, the textbox should expand accordingly. I know it is not best UX placement of resize option.
>>9242>the page suddenly snaps up to focus the static formI know that pain, I will see what I can do to try to fix that (been on back burner as it is not too often you stumble on it).
>a "mark as (You)" buttonIf you click the arrow left of poster name you can choose "Add (You)" to mark it as (you). I might not have used best wording when I created that menu.
>>9241I'll agree with that. Some people prefer not using the catalogue.
>>9243Cheers m8
>>9243thanks m8
>If you resize the Quick reply dialog box (bottom right corner, the textbox should expand accordinglyThe UX is actually the same as on 4chan and 4chanx, but for me it only allows horizontal resizing.
I guess this might just be a me issue. Regardless it's a pretty minor niggle so feel free to ignore, all the other stuff's way more important anyway.
>If you click the arrow left of poster name you can choose "Add (You)"Oh amazing, my problem was not the wording it was that I was looking for the arrow somewhere around the ID and post number, not on the left side of the entire post header. That's just me being retarded and too used to the 4chan(x) UI. Actually I think when I first switched to 4chanx I couldn't find the post options arrow either because it moves it relative to vanilla 4chan, so yeah it's just me lmao.
If you want to adjust the wording I think similar functionality in 4chanx and mobile apps uses something like "Mark as (You)" and "Unmark as (You)", but it's not a big deal.
please add a full list of BBS Codes to the FAQ or some other page
>>9246Is the list in "help" section in the options incomplete?
>>9247>>9248Was just about to suggest looking there.
>>9248>>9249oops I'm blind negro, sorry
>>9230Thinking a bit more on this, could be you're seeing the MD5hash as the first file? I don't really see much of a reason anyone would care about a visible hash if that's the case and I support a default hiding of the jargon string
>>9226It would be nice to be able to see the date/time stamp of the most recent post (and I suppose OP too) in a thread in the catalog by, for example, having a tooltip appear when you hover your mouse over a thread.
>>9244>>9245* Fixed so that reply don't scroll you down to your post anymore.
* And added option to make board links into direct catalog links.
Will need reload of page to get the new js. Let me know if there is any problems.
>>9254Extremely based. Catalog links work, testing the autoscroll on reply
>>9254>new option works a treatAbsolutely stunning, thank you! Have a delicious marshmellow ponut for your efforts.
>>9254thanks
I have a problem with auto-updater: if I scroll down to the bottom of a thread page, leave my tab and wait for new posts, sometimes posts are read automatically, and I get no special favicon icon displayed
>>9226Not really an issue on desktop, but when phoneposting the Quickreply window shrinks when you add an image, thus making triple checking for typos a challenge. Would it be possible to change it so the window adjusts accordingly? Thank you for the catalog feature.
Also just noticed the quickreply window goes away when scrolling to the top of the page. Very clever.
>>9254Good improvements.
The boardlink at the top center still links to a board index, while the board link in the list brings me to a board catalog
I know this site already has video with sound support, so some 4x style toggle autoplays in the options for gifs and videos could be a nice QoL bump.
Dedicated thread reply tracker tab
Got couple:
Subject isn't in quick filter menu, but you can set Subject filter through options manually. So quick link pls.
Ability to add filters from catalog view. Maybe add arrow dropdown menu thingy there.
There doesn't appear to be any functionality for hiding threads entirely.
I tried filtering a thread's OP and it still shows up on the front page as well as the catalog.
>>9265i noticed the same
as traffic escalates in the coming days i would not mind a way to hid the on coming shitposts (not to mention a few that i already want to hide)
>>9265Added function to filter OPs in board view.
Working on filtering in catalog.
>>9312>>9310Filter should now hide filtered threads in catalog also.
>>9313if you mean by hiding that can't see it at all, then its not working, went through different mutations of STRIPED in Subject with regexp toggled and not toggled, still no matter what i added, can see thread in catalog. meaning that even /^STRIPED$/ doesn't work. Only filter that seems to work is image spoilering as seen here
>>9314.
Also filter list is bit rough as it needs refresh to see changes.
>>9315Click the Arrow next to name and select
Add Filter > Post+
But I will look into adding the text search option too.
Shift + Enter to submit a new post on the quick reply would be nice, but doubletabbing works.
On the homepage, both the [recent imgs] and the [recent posts] column could link to shortened threads, to save bandwidth on both ends.
So change the link from
mlpol.net/board/thread#post towards
mlpol.net/board/thread@50#post
>>9360All files are scanned for viruses and uploads are checked for file-type (the code don't rely on extension given). Nothing is 100%, but I strive to do the best I can to make it secure.
>>9226It would be nice to be able to properly resize the comment box in the quick reply popup. Right now it can get really tiny and hard to read what you are writing.
>>9362If you resize the Quickreply dialog box itself (lower left corner) the comment box will resize with it. I know it is not the most optimal UX.
>>9361Maybe it would be a good idea to stop allowing pdfs for a while because others are going to be inspired by the 4chan hack.
>>9364We're not susceptible to the same attack that 4chan was when it comes to PDFs. Our way to handle PDFs is more akin to a file storage service. We don't process PDF files other than checking that it is a PDF file and scanning it for viruses.
I may be retarded, but it seems like archived threads aren't really marked in any way. I had
https://mlpol.net/poner/65 open in a tab for a while, and I went to post there just now and got a message saying "thread is archived".
But not only is that not visible anywhere on the page itself, but the autorefresh timer is still running, "refreshing" the thread every 5 seconds. And reloading the page doesn't do anything.
I think that if /poner/ really picks up speed and threads might start archiving regularly, this could be worth looking at. As a more precise to-do list of what a user might expect:
>favicon changing so the tab is visible as archived>the page text saying "archived" instead of e.g. "page 10">the auto-update automatically stopping, the manual refresh button getting disabled, and possibly this also saying "archived" (for reference, 4chanx writes that in red text)Speaking of favicons, I remember someone mentioning that the icon for threads with (You)s is almost indistinguishable from threads with just unread posts, but apparently it wasn't in this thread. Either way bumping that anon's point, it's nice being able to see at a glance if you got (You)ed in any open tab.
And one very minor extra unrelated suggestion would be having a posts/posters/images/page display near the top of the thread also, not just at the very bottom, so that you can see it immediately when opening a thread rather than only once you've already read every post anyway.
Again for a 4chanx reference it puts it in the sticky header on the right (so next to the Options button currently), which is even nicer since you can see it at a glance from anywhere, but I'm not picky. (4chanx also adds a red notification if you got (You)ed anywhere in any other thread but that would have to come after a thread watcher implementation kek.)
>>9366There was some spam so might have been that it pushed it off into archives. One of the spam preventions is that if catalog is spammed to hell the catalog and therads will be restored when spam is removed. But I will look into if there is a better way to do it (but might take time to tweak that due to more work on underlying code).
I will look into tweaking the notification favicon for (you)s. And the other Quality of Life suggestions.
>>9367Oh huh. The thing is that thread isn't "restored" yet, I can't reply to it and it's not showing up on the catalog, so I'm a bit confused about what you mean.
>I will look into tweaking the notification favicon for (you)s. And the other Quality of Life suggestions.Warm thanks. I really appreciate the dev effort you're putting in to fix all of these little things so fast.
>>9368Let me check.
Oh, it is in the Archive - reading is hard. Thought you said it was in the catalog and missed the "not" part.
It should have said "Archived", so not sure why it says "Page 10". I will look into it. Thanks for letting me know about it.
>>7990 →What's the filesize limit here? If not then I'm adding it as a suggestion.
I noticed on 8moe that they have a file size upload of 50mb, along with which files are supported. But I don't see any info for where this would be on mlpol, and I checked the help under options.
>>9371That's a decent chunk, but I still don't know where that info is found. Just by trial and error? It should be somewhere on the website UI, either under options help or the reply window.
Can we get .webp support for uploading images?
the ability to shiftclick threads on the catalog would be a nice little quality of life thing i would appreciate greatly
>>9374.webp support should now be working
>>9374Let's not
>>9384REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
What is supposed to happen when you click on "No." before the post number? It highlights the post but doesn't do anything else that I'm aware of. If it copied to clipboard the link to the post (
https://mlpol.net/qa/9226#9384) then that would be nice.
>>9394just realized I can right click a post number and copy it, rather than copying the post number and editing the URL. clicking on the post number pops up a reply which is nice.
still, the "No." text before the post number seems useless.
>>9396Hey anon, did you know if you select text before you hit the post number, it will auto-quote?
>>9226Being in a catalog from one board and clicking a link to another board should just redirect me to that one's catalog already instead of taking me to the front page.
>>9404There's an option for that. (Though granted it's not conditional on you currently being on a catalog.)
Small thing I just noticed re:favicons: it seems that the (You) icon is not just hard to notice, but a thread updating and loading another non-(You) post after you got (You)ed actually reverts the favicon back to the default "unread posts" one. I'm not sure if it's just me but it seems to be relatively consistent.
We have disabled pdf uploads.
Our servers are, and were, not susceptible to the type of hack that took 4chan down as our code handle them with care and actually check the files. But to put people at ease and due to the nature of pdf's we have elected to disable the upload of them.
>>9518I might have made small error and nerfed png at the moment will fix.
>>9520Fixed, and
>>9518 stands true. Sorry for any inconvenience in the small time the error was present.
>>9521I had a feeling that brief 502 error was related.
>>9522Sorry you got that error. I try to do the updates as fast as I can to prevent anyone notice. But sometimes I fall short of that goal.
This site is borderline perfect, as other anons have said it needs a decent thread watcher, if that was implemented then I'd happily make this my home board. Also massive thanks to staff and anons of mlpol for accepting us refugees, it's comfy here. The features on this site such as, lack of cuck timer+captcha and video support with audio are a real eye opener as to how shit 4chan was.
>>9523It was hardly prolonged, barely a blip. You can never, ever save every packet. You aren't #Deca
>>9528Going to start work on a thread watcher tomorrow. Hopefully it will not take too long getting something together. And I hope what I make will be usable and a good starting point for improvements.
>>9529Thanks.
>>9530Very much looking forward to this. For me, thread watcher + dynamic post "read" status based on scrolling are the two big features that would basically make this site perfect.
With some luck, you might even be able to lift some of the frontend javascript directly from 4chanx. It's even MIT licensed.

>>9360>>9364>>9518>pdfI can honestly say with full confidence that our website code was more secure when I first turned the website on drunk and disorderly (thanks pupper for making actually good code) than 4chan was last week, constant security updates were always number 1, in fact I accidentally crashed the server the first week because I wanted to keep a script running for the security updates
we secure the server itself against any ssh, we keep the server code updated, there is a solid separation between our own communications and the server software, and we store NO user data, your ip addresses are on our server for 1 nanosecond before being garbled into a non-reversable encrypted bit of nonsense, the best we can know (for moderation purposes) is that two posts were made by the same person. And all the posts are backed up so they couldn't even just delete everything and leave us in shambles.

>>9227Came here to post this. Glad others want the same thing.
Don't know if it has already been mentioned, but for spoilered images, the original filename doesn't show when unspoilering the image (you can still save it with the original filename though).
Can I request the G5 icons to be added to : ?
Can you make a feature where you can move tangents or off topic discussions to the appropriate threads if they exist?
Quoting by highlighting a text and then clicking on the post number.
>>9644This is also already a feature
>>9645Testing it and there's some kind of bug.
If I hold and drag to select, it works.
If I double click on the text to select a single word, it works.
If I triple click on the text to select all of it, it doesn't work.
>>9645>>9647Actually more inconsistent than I thought.
>>9647>>9648I'll add it to things to look into.
Got a few Quality of Life things to improve, and will do my best to see if I can fix this bug.
>>9648Thanks for this, anon. I thought I was going insane with it working half the time and not working the other half.
Quickreply pup-up window can only extend horizontally.
Please make it extendable vertically and diagonally too.
>>9647>>9649The select quote bug should be fixed now.
>>9715This has been getting me too since I'm used to scaling the quickreply from the actual input portion. The problem is we're using this site's implementation incorrectly. You need to go to the ENTIRE quickreply box's corner.
>>9716>The select quote bug should be fixed now.Very based
>>9717Oh holy shit I'm retarded, this whole time I had just accepted that I guess it can only scale horizontally.
