>>373810 I’ve got a room from the sponsor ticket for 4 nights. I may want to extend through Tuesday, but I’d have to leave early that morning. One person wants to go to the equine rescue facility, another wants to go to a Disney park.
Got a room for 6 nights, and going to bring a lot of fun things including but not limited to liquid soap I'll make to take shots with. Going to try to make a numget candle for donation too.
>>374299 this will be my first mare fair but not my first con, and I can honestly say out of the 10 or so conventions I've been to for various things I can't remember a favorite panel, but I have very fond memories of merch halls and room parties
>>374301 >>374298 I've been going to pony conventions since canterlot gardens only showing in 2012, and several conventions [linux, manufacturing] before that. The early pony conventions felt pretty much exactly like the linux conventions. a fair amount of IRL shitposting and autistic people that are not quite sure what to do. Quite a bit of drinking in the later hours of the day and general fun times talking about the gritty little things you like the most about [linux, ponies]. Then somewhere around 2015 or so, troons started fagging things up, mostly from the furry community. Pony conventions became horrible and kept out/kicked people from trying to have fun from the desire to stay healthy by not taking experimental gene therapy shots. Topped with derpibooru banning free speech, and "pony conventions" slowly going more furry, this pissed off most of the core mare lovers
Mare Fair was born.
>>374300 This is the best summary in two words >Pure Energy Sure there was some autism, but most of it was directed in a way that is like adding a little salt to a meal. It was like I was transported back to 2012 but without the "I'm here but I'm not quite sure what to do now" vibe. Everyone either knew what they wanted and how to get it, or they didn't know what they were doing but was hanging out with people who did. It was by far the highest energy pony convention I've ever been to. Maybe similar to having a very large extended family where more than 3/4 of everyone at the family reunion are people you want to be around. The only down side is there is not enough time to hang out with everyone, regardless of how much you want to.
There are a good portion of vendors at Mare Fair that are not at any other convention. Perhaps more than 1/2 even. Anon_The_Anon I know said he can't afford to go to any other conventions and was quite fun to hang around. That is just one of the many uber cool based artists.
>>374306 Thank you for the explanation, Anon. I have been a pone enjoyer for twelve years and recall clips from the golden days, namely the original voice actors making guest appearances at certain conventions and engaging with the fans. It all seemed heartwarming and entertaining, and I would think Mare Fair is like a continuation of this period of time, sans clout-chasers and troons. I almost cannot believe that it's been over a decade.
At any rate, I hope you have a good time if you are intent on visiting this year. What you describe doesn't seem insular or enigmatic in the least. I would like to attend myself one day.
>>374301 two of my cars have little mini plushes I picked up from bronycon on consecutive years (one flutters, one maud) and I've got a couple of wall scrolls from an artist I liked. I also picked up a few other things that have been lost or shared with ex-girlfriends over the years, and some more generic stuff you can pick up anywhere (I probably bought two or three boxes of CCG cards when I was playing the card game)
So it's roughly one month until the MF2, how we doing bros? I feel like it's bit of a "calm before the storm" , with the last preparations being almost done, I am getting really exited to see my American buddies again.
>>376567 I will see you there based soap merchant, you and Express patches are the two vendors that I wish to buy my stuff from (and Fanny but her shit will sell out within 5 minutes from opening the hall so that sucks).
Putting preps together, definitely going to do a TSSSF game or three and I might run a ryuutama one-shot for people more seriously interested in games. I doubt I'll bring a CCG deck, I haven't invested in the CCG since before the movie so I'm woefully out of date
be careful if you're driving lads: apparently they've got a hurricane coming in, making landfall Thursday. Looks like its mostly going to be hitting the panhandle but if you're coming from the west you may want to leave such that you're not getting into Florida on Thursday
Couldn't get my visa, I guess it's impossible until hoholstan dies off. Wish I could join the fun. I heard Corp said something about doing livestreams of the panels if that is true then I'll at least attend the online con, see you homefags there.
Hey guys, it's me, that one dude that everyone was looking forward to meeting. Bad news - I accidentally boarded the wrong plane and wound up in French Canada. They don't accept American dollars so I'm stuck here until I can find some local work. I was really excited to share my collection of rare unaired MLP episodes and maybe give out some of the extra Aryanne plushies I have. Better luck next year!
>>377096 I got my flight cancelled and rebooked for tomorrow.
Could you tell me a little bit about arriving early? I usually aim to arrive in the evening before the convention so I can hopefully do early check in or just be decently rested before the convention starts.
Did you arrive early specifically to get around the weather issue?
>>377079 I'll get there late due to weather induced flight cancellations, but I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. If you're in French Canada, try the poutine, and the Montreal smoked meat sandwiches if you can.
Good morning poyims, I hope you have wonderful day and spend many sheckles in Mare Fair vendors hall. (Also fuck the mobile faggot getting the whole mobile network ban on /a/)
After getting delayed a day by the hurricane, I'm finally on the plane to get to Mare Fair. After just a few hours, I'll be able to navigate my way from the airport to the hotel.
I'm looking forward to meeting up.
Do we have a squad together for /MLPOL/, or are most of us wandering around?
How's the hotel wifi handling the convention traffic?
>>377123 Aww... I'm sorry you weren't able to make it this year. Is there anything I can do to help bring you some of the experience of going to Mare Fair? Maybe trying to post a few photos, or describing some of the panels?
I can't commit to a full journal video blog, but I'd like to do something to bring you some of the experience.
Hey guys, could someone help me, I can't post in the main thread because WiFi and mobile is still banned, I lost my backpack with my mppp Aryanne plushie inside the gamer mini backpack (it had bunch of 8-bit sprite art on one side, inside there was some of my other shit like sketchpad and some other vendors stuff I think), I would highly appreciate if someone give it a shout in the main thread.
>>377169 Alright, I got one of the staff write an note in the thread, sadly the main stage is not opening until 0930 so they can't even lurk in the room if it's still there. The hotel staff also said they do not have it in lost and found room. I really fucking hope it's not the case of someone having sticky fingers.
>>377181 it was actually a fantastic weekend, anons were super cool and getting to meet people was awesome. Con staff are a concern for me, and the venue was subpar, but the people were the best people I've ever shared a degenerate hobby with
>>377183 Protip: If you're not quick enough to realize that "the alternative" referred to "not going" (cuz Elway clearly intended to have gone) then you're probably not who the comment was intende for
>>377183 Nigger, hotel staff was circling the concert like sharks to tell people to stop drinking. Far beyond 'sub-par'. The only room hotel staff didn't go in to beat people over the head was the vendor hall. Next year they are going to be at a different hotel for sure. Estimation is that the hotel will be announced at the beginning of 2025 at the latest.
>>377186 The fact that they put hotel guests on the same floor as congoers, especially suites, tells me this is the hotel management’s first convention ever
>>377169 >>377171 Did you have any luck, Anon? It's one of the worst (yet common) things that can happen at a con. My stuff was comparatively not so valuable but I was paranoid about keeping it in sight at all times. I hope you got everything back.
>>377195 My, you seem awfully preoccupied with trying to reframe and backpedal from failing understand my obvious context-cues (read: notice the reply-to in the 'offending' post to Elway). Wasn't this thread supposed to be about Mare Fair?
>>377201 It doesn't have to be this way you know. It doesn't make you less of a person to realize "huh, maybe my interpretation was off, and perhaps my comment was premature/unwarranted." It's okay, you don't have to actually say it, just as long as we grow TOGETHER! >Post badge or gtfo Or what?
>377199 >377202 >maybe if I adopt a more patronizing tone Anons won't realize that I've been acting like a developmentally challenged child >n-no, it's you who's derailing! My shitposts don't count!
>>377210 >mad lol, classic >meetup thread Is that goal-post moving? >doesn't even know Or care >who he's talking to Spoken like a namefag >>377211 Are you denying it's increasing evidence?
Anons have been using this thread to organize and meet eachother at the convention. Complaining about using names in this context is just silly. >he's still replying Imagine being this much of an egotistical faggot. Complaining about others while contributing nothing.
I was having too much fun and for the first day I was using my camera strap to restrain my maud plush so I didn't get as many good photos as I wanted to
(referring of course to the overwhelming outrcry of "REEEEEEE, FURFAGS" in the Mare Fair threads, and not unwarranted) Neglecting of course, the one issue that horsefuckers seem particularly predisposed to deny and then memory-hole Don't worry, there'll be plenty of anti-furry signs in addition.
>>377232 You do realize that Mare Fair exists in part because /mlp/fags wanted to escape the incursion of non-pony furry stuff at pony conventions, right? Of course you do, you're just being pointlessly antagonistic.
>>377233 >non-pony furry stuff Thank you for that specification >pointlessly antagonistic Oh, there's always a point to my antagonism. But in this case (referring to next year's Mare Fair, and not this exchange), I won't be trying to be antagonistic (though, still perched for salt-mining if I get a bite, you know). The worst you're likely to see of me is probably signage advertizing free food at a particular room. But if anyone wants to cry that there's a furry, I'll be happy to make them. ^_^
>>377239 look, I know you're a low functioning autist so I'll provide you with a simple english wikipedia page to help you understand what that response meant https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joke
Question, does anyone have videos of the panels? The tulpa seminar and pony church service piqued my interest. I looked on /mlp/ and ponytube, but to no avail.
>>377249 I didn't taste the mare's milk and my buddy who did went home to a week long power outage so I can't ask him. 4mlp thread said it tasted really grassy, like milk blended with hay. Hotel wifi was fucking awful and the cell towers were slammed because there were a shitload of us. iirc they've still got events planned out to the second (going to the horse rescue that the con funds) so the third is the earliest I'd go looking, since most well produced (relatively, the AV team was kinda retarded) content will come from the con staff
>>377250 This makes sense, thank you. I know that fermented mare's milk is the national drink of Mongolia, and it's something I have always wanted to try. Imagine my pleasant surprise at seeing marechiattos! Were there any events you enjoyed at Mare Fair?
>>377251 I've never been much for panels at cons but I had a lot of fun at all of them that I went to. As I mentioned further up in the thread the perler bead workshop was probably my favorite, I think a crafts room in general spanning the whole con would be awesome (and a better use of space than the gaming room that was mostly empty)
>>377256 I saw that, can't reply because no VPN that works with the nigger-ran 4chan. won't be able to reply for a few days because of the drive home. oh well
>>377258 protip: get an oracle free tier cloud sub and a raspberry pi. Set up a site to site VPN between the oracle box and your raspi, then an openVPN server that routes all your mobile/outside the house traffic back home before it goes out
>>377260 >almost like they're not proud to be Nazis >literally THE NEXT POST >SOMEONE ID THEM SO I CAN RUIN THEIR LIVES REEEEEE I hate them so much bros
>>377260 >Posts two photos of several healthy, fit, straight What men (and a gatorbro) enjoying their time by the pool, engaging in jockularity while bonding over a common interest They wouldn't even have to be making a manji for someone with a Yoshi PFP to BAWW about them being fashionably bashable.
Does anyone want to discuss/correlate plans for next year's Mare Fair, as well as potentially other conventions? I have a number of personal plans, and I'd also like for there to be some degree of visible /mlpol/ presence: a scheduled meetup (with elastic string disposable paper anon masks in green and orange) if not a panel of some sort. Mare Fair is the best opportunity (imo) to draw in quality new/old users, an with a bit of strategy and planning we can have more of a "did you hear wat /mlpol did?" presence in the MLP fandom. If there's no interest, wah-hey!, but if there is I'll consider baking
>>377355 I was evangelizing to appropriate people but mlpol is considered dead even by the dissident right people I talked to. Few of us had a decent meetup and I think that's all its gotta be, mlpol room party
things worth keeping an eye on. I missed those happenings while I was there so don't know who all was involved and was too busy to check the thread to see what all was happening.
>>377383 topkek... as far as I know, nobody from mlpol did anything at Mare Fair besides saying "hi" to the few who got to meet up. not that they care.
Actual anons in thread literally dont give a shit, its just [redacted] twitter assholes trying to be relevant by complaining that something tickled a naughty part of their brain. While a "Yeah, maybe not on overtly being welcoming of a site that - no offense - makes alot of inappropriate jokes" is probable, the general impression from anons (that has been seen) takes it as a nothing burger
Looking into thread 41487915 there are some Anons giving the sensible response on how to help MF staff defend themselves again twittertards however it looks like the thread is just an excuse to post "noooo, MF3 never ever, bad nazi killed it, reeeeeee" from the bad actors.
>>377551 It will be interesting to see if they ban fursuits given the overwhelming sentiments. Surely they would allow for pony suits, and plausibly pony/series related, but I'm of the mind that fursuits should be restricted to individual rooms, room parties, and scheduled events that expressly necessitate/warrant/invite them (i.e. fursuits welcome, karaoke for example)
>>377552 I honestly doubt it, and I lowkey hope they don't. I didn't see badges on the furries that were there this year and banning them will just make more show up and flaunt their dildos in the lobby
>>377553 I hope they dont as well, I have some interesting ideas for anti-furfaggotry signs to be displayed while in fursuit. However, it does seem that if the intent is to preserve /mlp/ and classic fandom culture then some degree of restrictions - specifically/especially for non-fandom suits - is in everyone's best interest.
One thing that furries can lose sight of is that expressly-furry conventions are open to really anyone. Mario is here, Link is there, there's a trio of amogus over there, a bunch of cosplay anime fags are gathering over at the bridge, etc. It has become second nature to assume that unless otherwise specified, conventions are a permissive space with expected overlap. In that furries also have a (ahem) healthy population of willful con-goers for whom travel/etc is not a concern, a new and upcoming convention is quite enticing. Without clearly emphasizing the central focus of ponies it becomes assumed that the con would become diluted with ponies. Again to my comment about no fursuits unless called for, a push for green (or orange, or red, or,...) masks is better for maintaining the existing atmosphere
Lord, guide snowpity.inc ponies to this discussion.
For the purpose of the following: 1. The term "furries" shall be used to designate individuals with furry swag, apparel, con badges, etc. including entire/multipe fursuits. This category can be said to include a percentage of the MLP fandom who fit in the previous criteria. 2. The following takes the nuanced position that the pony fandom is separate and exclusive to the furry fandom (i.e. some ponies are furries and vice versa, but not all ponies are furries and vice versa).
The problem with allowing for an even tacitly open-door policy with regards to fursuits - and this comes from a proud furfag - is not that it promotes attention-whoring, though it certainly enables it. The problem is that fur suits by their nature draw the eye, even if the furry wearing it is the most wholesome and delightful person.
In that the focus of the convention is celebration of the MLP fandom (with obvious but in-exclusive emphasis on g4) it seems that emphasizing/encouraging more of the existing fandom habits/behaviors should be the norm. Furries are rife with non-fursuit content that at a distance is all-but indistinguishable from pony content: hoodies, shirts, pants, (ahem) programmer socks,.., as well as classic accessories like bags, con badges, plushies, etc. which are likewise ubiquitous with the MLP fandom and equally indistinguishable at long distance.
This isn't about uniformity, it's about encouraging mutually-sharable participation/expression.
I propose a policy of: NO NON-CANON/FANDOM/PONY FURSUITS DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS
- Canon, to mean expressly visible in show/media/print (including other generations)
- Fandom to include products of 4chan (Anonfilly et al) and creative works (Past Sins, Fallout: Equestria, etc.)
- Pony, to give preference/emphasis to MLP-aesthetic horses (meaning, Bojack Horseman fursuit can fuck right off) Without having any idea how to enforce such a thing other than revoking the offender's registration (a 1-warning policy seems appropriate), this would emphasize both a willingness to allow furries to be furries alongside a commitment to keeping the focus on ponies being ponies
The utility behind restricting non-relevant fursuits (aside from previous mentions) depends on the demographic: Ponies seem generally/overly supportive of fursuits of canon characters, as they genuinely (in both senses) contribute to the aesthetics of the con. Fursuiters are still a significant minority of the MLP crowd, and if one wants to get really autistic, there's no shortage of canon characters to make fursuits of. There are literally professional and/or patreon-supported fursuit-makers and youtubers, both of which will make superb quality suits of MLP characters if there is a daytime restriction on non-canon. They literally net profit from every con they go to, and if the structure involves a very legitimate compromise - which I propose the above to be - they'll not only abide but will advise their followers/subscribers to do likewise. Honestly, I think the non canon/fandom/pony rule should not expire with the sun, but agin, its about compromise
All of this is in the interest of everyone having the best time possible. Now, the outline put forth (no non-canon, fandom, or pony) would permit my fursuit/fursona but I STILL won't wear it publicly EVEN after hours BECAUSE the point of the con is to respect/promote pony culture. I don't expect all/most fursuiters to agree, so again the pony-centric compromise
As a qualifier to having the best time possible, it is possible that people who are not of the target demographic (whether more furry, normie, press, etc) are in attendence. Ostensibly they should go unmolested*, assuming they are informed and can appreciate that while otherwise not unwelcome that this is a Pony-centric culture/convention. No one is intended to have a bad time, but certain things at certain times disrupt the flow. Furries have a similar concept in not allowing adult/fetish (assuming the whole suit isnt a fetish, lol) geat until after dark, so the concept of limiting non-canonish wouldnt be especially foreign.
I'd also support expressly non-furry sections of after-hour, just saying
>Any kind of bitching about Mare Fair What do you want? Just in the panels I was present for, there were: 3 panels including racial slurs (two with multiple instances of "nigger" and one with "chink"), one panel with an ISIS flag and fake AK 47s, one where a bomb threat was read aloud, one with a joke about a con mascot dating a 9/11 hijacker and losing her box cutter because of it, a panel wherein someone married an Aryanne plush, multiple Aryanne plushies just being paraded around, multiple panels wherein explicit material (horse pussy) was shown, several panels with explicit statements about foalcon, and one where someone shouted "kill Haber" and got no push back. What else do you want? How many fewer restrictions do you need?
The only restrictions they have at all are in the public areas to try to keep the hotel from banning them. Because they know that if they are banned from the Mariott, the Marriot will speak to every other venue, and get them banned from every other venue, and then they are fucked
>But there were furries! There were two, maybe three fur suits. That's it. That's fuck all nothing. Are you so obsessed with furries that it's impossible for you to not notice these, or ignore these? Go hang out with friends or do something, anything, more productive than obsessively thinking about furries all day and night.
I know someone who was banned from every single My Little Pony Convention in the United Kingdom because he implied that he had images of foalcon saved to his laptop. That's the attitude outside of Marefair - to ban as many things as possible and to restrict as many things as possible. Mare Fair thrives precisely because it takes the opposite approach. It is as free as possible and allows as much as possible, because that is the best way to spark creatively, not banning everything.
>mlpol panel Did none of you attend last year? Last year I was invited by Corpulent Brony (one of the chief organizers, mind you) to be on a panel about Alternative Sites. And on that panel, I talked about mlpol.net and the history of mlpol. I told the story of the board mergers on April 1st, and how I came to mlpol. The room applauded. We had an Alternative Sites panel this year as well which I participated in, though it was smaller, I was late, and Zizzy was leading it, so the panel focused pretty much entirely on technical aspects of operating a website which I had nothing to contribute to
