Don't think that most nationalists will do anything but facepalm or look at you strangely, because they aren't willing to embrace absurdist humor to the same extent we are.

The answer to this is not to directly attach yourself to some third-party franchise, but simply to incorporate different absurdist elements in order to be a joke party people will support ironically. Examples are Vermin Supreme in the U.S., the Monster Raving Loony Party (which recently beat nUKIP, lul), and the Five Star Party in Italy (which has had a surprising amount of success).

A horse would be a great choice for a political symbol. You could use the idiom "a dark horse" and the horse is a symbol of freedom.

Also, "the Friendship Party" is a good name. You could enunciate how "toxic" (to appropriate a word) mainstream politics and society has become and how you seek to bring back when people could trust each other rather than trying to subjugate each other.

Indeed controlling, and dominating the media as the feel good party would be hard on its own. Being "a dark horse" the underdog helps incredibly so for being viewed in a positive light.
Counter-propaganda would need to make it be funny, and humorous. Anything less than constant memes, and messages would brand the party, and specific people, in a negative light.

Why not both? The resources, and personal needed would double, but then the dem friendship vs rep friendship party could win. Doubling the chances if either makes it out. In either case it would cause some chaos on both political sides. Having a controlled opposition would be much better than an uncontrolled one. If such a circumstance would happen either side could boost the other into the spot light for a variety of reasons.

Meeting up would put a warning sigh for them to exactly know where they could hit you hardest, for next time.
