>>112322Thanks for the Afghanistan updates, Pingustan!
I'll see what I can work with on the Afghan Shitmap.
>>112322The USA can never leave Afghanistan, can it? If the US leaves, the government would collapse and the Taliban would just take over control again. Even worse, the news states that Afghanistan is turning into a hub for international terrorism. Leaving that unchecked would not be pragmatic. Leaving would also mean a humiliating defeat for America. If the USA stays and fights, it will fight an endless insurgency. There doesn't seem to be a winning to that war.
>>112325>“Let us know when you’re ready to talk to discuss your exit,” says a tweet from the account of the media office. “Soon is better before it becomes very ugly for you in Afghanistan. You know how to reach us through our office in Doha”. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-taliban-haley-united-nations-afghanistan-negotiations-talks-a8184451.htmlthis one?
>>112328And about that tech from US. Stolen from Afghan army or black-market purchase?
>>112331>. Although true to a large extent due to the reduced logistical capabilities of the decentralized insurgency, there is mounting evidence to suggest that certain elements within the Taliban have not only gained infrared and thermal viewing capabilities, but are becoming proficient in their use.>The majority of these supply routes appear to be from Afghan National Security Forces by way of battlefield capture or through otherwise corrupt individuals selling NVGs to third party brokers or to Taliban individuals themselvesFrom the first article.
>>112322>>112326Well, you were right about the no territorial changes, of course. I was just hoping to at least fill in some blank areas.
>>112329A mix of all. Some looted from US soldier, afghan soldiers some bought from corrupt afghan army members/blackmarket.
>>112327>The USA can never leave Afghanistan, can it?Actually, it can. All we have to do is withdraw all of our soldiers, and airlift them out. We have no (rightful) business being there.
>If the US leaves, the government would collapse and the Taliban would just take over control again. The Afghan gov't is going to collapse anyway. They are viewed by the people as a collaborationist state controlled by a foreign invader (USA). For this reason alone, it will fall regardless of whether we stay or not.
>Even worse, the news states that Afghanistan is turning into a hub for international terrorism. Leaving that unchecked would not be pragmatic. This is a legitimate concern, but we would need to cooperate with all the neighboring countries in that region to stamp out terrorism, but most of Afgh's neighbors are either already Red Team (Iran, China), or pro-Red Team (Pakistan). So it's just a bloody mess.
But you also have to keep in mind that the Taliban don't want international Jihad. They just want to rule Afghanistan again.
>Leaving would also mean a humiliating defeat for America. It would, but it would also be just another tally for superpowers Afghanistan has defeated (British Empire, USSR).
>If the USA stays and fights, it will fight an endless insurgency.Worse than leaving IMO.
>There doesn't seem to be a winning to that war. There's a reason Afghanistan is called "The Graveyard of Empires".

>>112337All fair points. I'm just squeamish about the Taliban gaining power again. The Taliban seem more radical than ever, and in the event of a US withdraw there will be a lot of destruction. In example, the girls schools the media like to show as progress are going to go up like fucking bonfires.
>>112344That's for the Afghan people to sort out. We are not the world police. Shouldn't be anyway.
>>112344True. I mean, what to do about it? Noone wants to put his hands into this mess. It's literally a geo-political black-hole sucking up all the money, hopes& dreams of anyone trying to do something about it.
>>112327>The USA can never leave Afghanistan, can it?It can but not at its desired conditions just like of the nations who came before.
>If the US leaves, the government would collapse and the Taliban would just take over control again.Aye, the afghan government is corrupt as fuck and will collapse as soon as the US leaves. After that a civil war similar to the last one will wage before the taliban regain control. But the regional players are alraedy beginning to meet to discuss future of Afghanistan and avert the collapse not to support the government but form a government representing all be it taliban, hazaras or the current corrupt government officals. As IS-k is the real threat to all countries here.

>>114996How in the fuck did the southern movement get Haiz?
>>115013STC is all over South Yemen. They mainly cooperate with Hadi-loyalists, like Al Qaeda mainly cooperates with the rest of the Rebels.
>>115020So the Hadi forces took Haiz working *WITH* the STC? And the STC took it from them?
What were they thinking, after what happened in Aden. For that matter, why arent' there any clashes in Mukalla?
>>115025>So the Hadi forces took Haiz working *WITH* the STC? And the STC took it from them? No. STC took Haiz with UAE help, without Hadi involvement. Like I said, they're all over South Yemen like AQ is all over Idlib.
>>115027Your last map showed it under Hadi control. But I'll go ahead and take your word that the Yemen talkpage is a clusterfuck and attribute it to that
That being said, why do they want it anyways, Haiz was never part of South Yemen. And in addition, why haven't Hadi and STC forces clashed in Mukalla at all?
>>115029>That being said, why do they want it anyways, Haiz was never part of South Yemen. They're continuing KSA's war against the Houthis.
>And in addition, why haven't Hadi and STC forces clashed in Mukalla at all?Either it's because Mukalla is actually under full STC control and there were no sources detailing this (one of the reason Yemen warmap/talkpage is such a clusterfuck is because of lack of sources - they had an RFC to determine if the STC was even real (this was before Aden takeover)), or it's because they didn't want AQAP exploiting the fighting and attempting to retake Mukalla.
>>115030>they're continuing KSA's war against the HouthisA pity. I was hoping that they'd align with the Houthis and agree to split the country and tell the KSA to fuck off
>>115033Based on what a pro-STC Yemeni said on 4/sg/, South Yemenis hate North Yemenis (mainly because Yemen was viewed as a North Yemeni dictatorship - capital was Sana'a, not Aden), so it's not really surprising to see STC going after Houthis.

http://archive.is/nzGlp>Damascus air defence downed its first Israeli jet (F-16) ever, at a stroke changing the rules of engagement (ROE) with Israel and sending a clear message that it is ready for war and will no longer be silent on violations of its airspace. This clash has triggered the mobilisation of the Syrian army and its allies in Syria and in Lebanon, the Lebanese Hezbollah. The speed of the Syrian reaction was due to a prior decision taken at highest level among all allies operating on Syrian territory. These consider a possible confrontation may be inevitable if Israel has decided to respond and declare war. The violation of Syrian sovereignty is no longer an option open to Israel and the Israeli jets will no longer be able to carry out their usual promenades over the Levant without consequences.>This shows that the government of Damascus – which lived in a state of war for more than six years – is ready to fight its battle with Israel and begin now. The Lebanese Second War in 2006 proved that air force power does not give superiority and does not finish off the opponent, Hezbollah, whose militants continued firing missiles and rockets consistently throughout the 33 days of war. The thousands of missiles delivered to Syria from Russia and Iran in the last years represent a major threat to Israel in the event of war, invalidating its air superiority.>Hezbollah’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah also said that the new front will extend from Naqoura (south of Lebanon) to the occupied Golan Heights (south of Syria) and that tens of thousands of friendly forces from neighbouring countries and others from farther afield will participate in the next war.>It is possible that Tel Aviv does not want war today; it is confused and does not know where the war can lead at a time when its internal front is unprepared and its army will not engage in a battle whose results are slender and whose goal unreachable.>The Israeli confusion was manifest as follows: firstly, it accused Iran of being behind the escalation. Next its military command claimed that “an Iranian drone infiltrating Israeli airspace was downed”- but it showed footage of the downing of a drone in Syria rather than in Israel. Iran denied the Israeli allegation. It was only hours later that Israeli command acknowledged the downing of its F-16 for “technical reasons” and the last verison was delivered correctly: the F-16 was “shot down while flying over al-Sukhna”, close to Tadmur.>A Commander of the allied forces in Syria revealed to me that allied forces led by the Syrian Army Command agreed to ambush the Israeli Air Force, putting the Syrian air defence on high alert, ready to fire. Then, a drone was sent to the Syrian-Israeli borders, violating Israeli air space to attract an Israeli response. As expected, Israel sent its F-16 to down the drone and was hit on the border. According to the source, it is impossible for an F-16 to be hit over the Sukhna (the Israeli version) – clearly a lie according to the source – and was in fact downed near Kiryat Ata, east of Haifa, over 150 km away from al-Sukhna. This debunks the Israeli story as fake, an attempt to camouflage the fact that the Israeli jet was hit in Israeli air space, a direct challenge to Israel’s authority and a clear message to say: “we can shoot you down over your own air space if you violate ours”, said the source.>“If a SAM-5 missile hit the F-16, it would explode in the air and nothing would remain of it. It was hit with a smaller but more modern and precise missile, capable of manoeuvring like the F-16s”, confirmed the source, who refused to give further information.>“Hezbollah is not only prepared for war against Israel but is gathering all Palestinian and Iraqi factions to be united against Israel in any following war, but only if Israel decides to go for war. Tel Aviv may hold the initiative but doesn’t hold the timing to stop the war nor to control it”. According to source, Hezbollah is gathering the largest number of allies ever united in any war against Israel for decades.>This “prepared incident” coincides with the 39th anniversary of the return to Tehran of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the beginning of the People’s Revolution of the Islamic Republic of Iran (February 11, 1979).>Syria is clearly defying Israel and is looking for a confrontation. Its military command exaggerated the outcome of the event when it said its defence system downed more than one Israeli jet. At the time Israel was confused, trying to hide the event for two hours.>It is no coincidence that the atmosphere of war is escalating in the Middle East following the signing of Lebanon’s oil investment contracts with a consortium of companies from Italy, France and Russia for Blocks 9 and 4, despite Israel’s objection to this investment and America’s failed attempt to mediate. Israel – apart from being unprepared for a long front escalating from Naqoura to the Golan – is also investing in oil and gas drilling and wants to revive its own economy.
>>116804So they "gave" Israel two choices, either go full war, without Israel actually knowing what they would enter into. Or stop violating Syrian and Lebanon airspace.
>>116814Jewing the jews. I like it.

>Residents, rebels in jihadist-held northern Homs demand reconciliation with governmentBEIRUT, LEBANON (4:15 P.M.) – Just 24 hours after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) started their norther Homs offensive, residents and rebel fighters loyal to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) took to the streets to demand the jihadists accept reconciliation with the government.
The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham had killed one member of the reconciliation delegation, prompting many civilians and rebels to take to the streets to protest the blockage of reconciliation in northern Homs.
Russians have given the jihadist rebels 48 hours to reconcile with the government or else, the government’s offensive will continue until they are kicked out of the northern countryside of the Homs Governorate.

>Kurdish forces suffer heavy casualties as Turkish-backed rebels advance in AfrinBEIRUT, LEBANON (5:05 P.M.) – The Turkish-backed rebels continued their advance inside the strategic Afrin region of Aleppo, today capturing several areas from the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG).
Led by the Free Syrian Army’s Assoud Al-Sharqiyah and Faylaq Al-Sham factions, the Turkish-backed rebels captured the town of Omer Semo near the Khorouz Mountain of northeastern Afrin.
The Free Syrian Army would then capture several other areas near Omer Semo, including a number of hilltops.
Meanwhile, at the southwestern front of Afrin, the Turkish-backed rebels managed to repel the counter-offensive that was launched by the Kurdish forces at Jandaris city.
Following the YPG’s failed assault, the Turkish-backed rebels took control of Arshli and and its corresponding hilltop after advancing from Jandaris this afternoon.
As a result of today’s advance, the Turkish-backed rebels now control eight percent of the Afrin region, which is double what they controlled last week.

>>118059Ahh yes, the usual gathering of the vultures to feast upon the corpse - in a certain manner. I think Bashar got the upper-hand in this one. He might ask for more in return for the trade deals. Of course, Iran is all for it, as it would expand their dominance in the region, same goes for Russia. Additionally, Iran expansion is a good levrege for Turkey's one. The question stands: what will Assad ask for? Dealing with kurds, more weapons or AA systems to prevent Israel from incursions into their air-space? I guess it all depends upon political solution. It's very much like the last sentence:
>what can the Iranians threaten us with? To withdraw? The Iranians are stuck with us — and the regime knows it.”Majoosi needs to play their cards right. Yet, it's tough to do with that much of a pressence of Great Satan. I think that this recent Deir show was actually some ground probing for Soleimani. I wonder what he came up with. If anything...
>>118061But how will the Iranians manage to compete with the money the Russians and especially with the Chinese will be bringing. I mean the Iranians have integrated themselves deeply with Syrian society as they were the ones paying all the salaries for the Syrian government and soldiers over the years.
>Over the five and a half years of war, Iran has spent over $25bn in Syria to support the Syrian government and people by supplying Damascus with financial aid to pay salaries, build roads, reconstruct parts of destroyed cities, offer medical support to hospitals, sending oil and hundreds of advisors to prevent Assad from falling.>Iran invested in the reconstruction of the Syrian armament industry to meet the significant missile and rocket demands during the five and a half years of war.https://ejmagnier.com/2017/01/03/are-russia-iran-hezbollah-and-al-qaida-winners-in-syria/The businessman is right in saying the Iranians are stuck with them but at the same time the Iranians have a full right to demand concessions from the Syrians due to the investment capital and human loss they have incurred.
Also how do you think this factors in all of this
>Iraq Wants $88 Billion for Rebuilding. Allies Offer a Fraction of That.https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/13/world/middleeast/iraqi-donor-conference-abadi-tillerson.html?smid=tw-share
>>118064>But how will the Iranians manage to compete with the money the Russians and especially with the Chinese will be bringingWell I guess Bashar is eager to take all the amount of money, then again he would want something in return. There is a chance that Iran will be marginalized in favor of bigger players. And Iraq? If Great Satan & Co. won't pay them, Iran, Russia and China will do so gladly. Iraqi Pres. was in Poland last year asking for comapnies to invest there too. I can't see why we shouldn't...

Though, tbqhwy, I think Afghan's neighbors are perfectly fine with having Taliban in charge, it's ISIS/AQ that concerns them. Are Taliban likely to openly cooperate with it's neighbors to eradicate ISIS/AQ from Afghanistan in exchange for recognition? If so, how would that affect geopolitics in that area?

>Uzbekistan to Host Conference on Afghan Peace TalksIn a further turn from its isolationist past, the Central Asian nation of Uzbekistan is stepping up its involvement in finding a peaceful solution to decades of war in neighboring Afghanistan, saying that an end to fighting there is key to counterterrorism efforts across the entire region.
In late March, Uzbekistan will host a conference in Tashkent involving regional powers as well as representatives from the U.S., Russia, China and elsewhere to try to establish how to bring the Afghan government, the Taliban and other warring parties into direct peace talks.
“The war in Afghanistan has been going on now for 40 years. It’s no wonder that it has had a destabilizing effect on the entire region and only when there is a peaceful solution there can we achieve greater regional security,” Uzbekistan’s foreign minister, Abdulaziz Kamilov, said in an interview.
On Friday, Mr. Kamilov met with U.S. national security adviser H.R. McMaster in Washington to discuss U.S. support for the conference initiatives and pressed his case before the United Nations Security Council.
Last week, President Donald Trump met with the president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and pledged cooperation with the countries of Central Asia on Afghanistan
The Tashkent conference would be the second round of the “Kabul Process,” an effort to restart long-stalled peace talks launched by the Afghan government last year. The first meeting to lay out a possible structure for talks is scheduled to be held in Kabul in late February.
Since Uzbekistan’s new president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, assumed power a year ago following the death of longtime authoritarian leader, Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan has moved to improve relations with its neighbors after years of tensions.
Among the changes has been the reopening of border crossings, reestablishment of direct flights between Tashkent and its neighbors’ capitals and a commitment for more cross-border trade. Cooperation over combating extremism in the region has also been increasing, Mr. Kamilov said, through the guise of international bodies like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Uzbekistan, a Muslim nation of more than 30 million people, has long struggled to clamp down on militants from its country who have joined the fight in Afghanistan and Syria and have been accused of playing a role in violence in China’s Xinjiang province.
Extremists hailing from Uzbekistan have turned up further afield. A 29-year-old Uzbek who moved to the U.S. in 2010 was charged with killing eight people in lower Manhattan in October by mowing them down with a truck. Last April, an Uzbek was arrested in Sweden after allegedly killing four people in a similar vehicle ramming attack.
Mr. Kamilov said relations with the U.S. had “turned a page” since President Trump had been elected, particularly on Afghanistan, as “American policy on the region has become more active and clear to us.”
He said that in the past, the U.S. had focused more of its attention on problems in the Middle East while the situation in Afghanistan and Central Asia has festered. He also noted that concerns raised by the Obama administration about human rights in Uzbekistan are being addressed, as many political prisoners have been released under the new government amid broader political reforms.
>>120839Thanks Pingu. So Uzbek's first and foremost concern is national security, and they'll deal with whoever can ensure this. But Uzbekistan's moves towards easing tensions with its' neighbors could be a sign that they might join EEU in the future - since they're already a part of CSTO/SCO, and CIS.
But their overtures to the US regarding human rights and the situation in Afghanistan makes me think they just want to be left to their own devices - a respectable desire.
>>120838>Enemy of my enemy is my friend.Though, this was bound to happen sooner or later. Afghan is such a highly-strategic location, simply because it links China to ME, ME to China, Stans to Pakistan/India, Russia to India, etc. Literally a crossroads country.
A US-controlled Afghanistan allows them to threaten Iran from three flanks (if you count KSA as a flank). It also allows US to project power into Xinjiang in China, and the Stans become vulnerable to US influence. Plus Pakistan gets sandwiched between India and Afghanistan.
Red Team Afghanistan however, literally removes a thorn in their backside, as China and Russia could move freely through Central Asia without being blocked by Afghanistan, and Pakistan has only one front to worry about, and Iran two (again, counting KSA as a front).
Furthermore, it could possibly be the single biggest leap towards the New Silk Road - after infrastructure is repaired and all the bloody IEDs removed (which could take years, if ever).
>>120848Seriously ,do they have them packed up all around the places and bringing them in when they need to make some propaganda shit?

YPG Aleppo Commander Fırat Xelil made the following statement about the deployment of Syrian regime forces in eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo;
“As YPG and YPJ forces in Aleppo, we have acted with the awareness of our responsibility since the first day of the attacks against Afrin. We have taken our place in the Resistance of the Age against the attacks of the invading Turkish state. Due to the silence of all world powers on the barbaric attacks, all the YPG and YPJ forces in Aleppo went to Afrin and participated in the defense. For this reason, the neighborhoods east of Aleppo have come under the control of regime forces.”

>Syrian Army military operation will start in Eastern Ghouta where HTS controlled>" Jobar , Harasta and Ain Tarmah "https://twitter.com/MIG29_/status/967494717238923265 [Embed]I sincerely hope that's not the entire scope of the operation. Lemme explain a very good strategy for cracking Eastern Ghouta nut (pun intended).
-
The reason that Ghouta has been such a hard nut to crack (seriously, just look at the shape of the pocket, the memes write themselves) is because SAA has been focusing on single sectors (Harasta, Irbin, Nashabiya, Ein Tarma, Jobar) at a time, which means the Jihadis only have to reinforce a single sector with all available reserves. This results in a greater concentration of enemy fighters that the SAA has to kill or push back, and thus the battle is much harder.
However, if SAA pressured the pocket along multiple frontlines, the Jihadis have to spread their reinforcements thin in order to hold all the frontlines against a numerically and logistically superior enemy - they may even have to choose which areas to lose and which to hold.
The question then becomes "which areas are they willing to lose in order to stave off their inevitable defeat?". They might withdraw from Nashabiya/Hezrama in order to shorten their own frontlines. However, this also shortens the SAA frontlines, which means more soldiers for SAA to (re)deploy to other fronts in the pocket - so it wouldn't change much save for putting the Jihadis in the same situation as before, but in a worse position. Therefore, they are highly likely to put up a hard fight in Nashabiya/Hezrama and Autaya.
However, if Autaya is capped by SAA, the pocket will collapse like what we saw back in 2016. The collapse will accelerate if SAA captures Shifuniya at the same time as Autaya.
Therefore, Autaya/Shifuniya are key cities the Jihadis MUST hold in order to stave off a complete collapse of the pocket from the east, even at the cost of redeploying defenders from the urban areas in the west to the farmlands of the east.
So, if the choice came to "what areas are we willing to lose in order to slow down the collapse of the pocket?", the Jihadis might choose to deploy a large amount of their reinforcements to the eastern regions of the pocket at the cost of losing some urban areas in the west.
Here is my plan for taking out Ghouta pocket:
>Red: SAA/Tigers take over Nashabiya/Hezrama and move to Autaya to improve SAA logistics in that sector, and enable power projection into the rest of the pocket. After which, the SAA/RG will redeploy to other fronts, and Tiger regroups and readies for the real advance.>Note: The SAA/RG on the western front will attack various urban areas at the same time as Nashabiya op is ongoing, in a bid to split the Jihadist defenders along two fronts - reducing their effective defense and counterattack power.>Pink: Tiger's charge to the western frontline of the pocket. He will go to Hawsh al-Ashari, creating a large bulge in the frontline as well as punching holes in the Jihadist defenses. This also has the effect of outflanking several positions in Ghouta (Muhammadiya/Beit Naem, Shifuniya/Hawsh Dawahirah), enabling the SAA/RG to attack them from multiple flanks - increasing the chances of quick victory.>After Hawsh Ashari, the Tiger will charge to Beit Sawa -> Mesraba -> Madyara, and then linkup with the SAA in Armored Vehicles Base - thus splitting the pocket into two, and isolating Duma from the rest of the pocket.>Blue: There's a chance Tiger could play it safe at first, and go Shifuniya/Hawsh Dawahira axis, before charging straight to Mesraba -> Madyara, but I suspect this will be the advance of 4th Mechanized that occurs at the same time as Tiger's advance - meaning that Pink/Blue will happen at the same time, with Tiger assaulting (jej) Beit Sawa at the same time that 4th Mechanized is assaulting Mesraba, and then Tiger goes to Madyara while 4th Mechanized goes to Satra to establish a buffer zone between Duma and Madyara - thus flanking Harasta from three flanks including it's most vulnerable flank: the rear.>The 4th Mechanized might even go so far as to attacking Harasta from the rear while SAA/RG attacks from the front, clearing out the district and removing another defensive line for Duma city, with Rayhan being the last defense before the city proper.>Orange: Not likely, but should be mentioned - Tiger could go to Beit Naem/Muhammadiya, then go to Aftris and swing north to Hawsh Ashari. However, I suspect that an SAA/RG unit will be given the task of clearing out Beit Naem/Muhammadiya axis after Tiger clears out Hawsh Ashari (so that Beit Naem/Muhammadiya will be flanked from three sides instead of two like in this scenario - which is why I said it's unlikely)-
After which, the frontlines will take on the shape of second pic related. The SAA will present surrender terms to the Jihadis - with greenbusses to Idlib. If they refuse...
>Orange (second pic): Tiger will attack Rayhan while SAA/RG attacks Jisreen, thus completely isolating Duma city and removing all of the defenses around the city, and the urban areas in the SW will be completely cut off from the farmlands so the SAA can simply starve them out.>For reference: Darayya/Muadimiya pocket(s) surrendered when SAA took almost all of the farmlands and the Jihadis had only the urban areas.

The exact location in Syria where the terrorist prisoners were being held has not been disclosed in CNN’s report.
There are believed to be many hundreds of ISIS fighters currently held in detention by US-backed forces at various ad-doc prison facilities across Syria’s east and northeast.

>Kurdish SDF to hand over Manbij in northern Aleppo to Syrian Army: reportKurdish-led Syrian Democratic forces (SDF) have agreed on the transfer of control over the northeast city of Manbij in the Aleppo province to the Syrian army that will enter the city in the coming days, a Kurdish security source told Sputnik on Saturday.
“The agreement was reached, under which the Syrian Arab Republic’s army will enter the city of Manbij, controlled by the SDF,” the source said.
On January 20, the Turkish General Staff announced the beginning of the Operation Olive Branch, aimed against certain Kurdish forces, in Afrin. Ankara considers the Democratic Union Party (PYD), a Kurdish political party in northern Syria, and Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) militia affiliates of the Turkish Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) listed as a terror organization in Turkey.
Following the launch of the operation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara’s operation may be expanded to the city of Manbij and other Syrian regions bordering Turkey. Damascus has expressed its opposition to the Turkish operation, saying that such actions violated Syrian sovereignty.
Earlier, the Kurdish forces reported that 308 Turkish servicemen were killed since the start of the Olive Branch operation in Afrin. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed however, that Ankara could extend its third military advance, vowing to “completely clear the region of terrorists, beginning with Manbij and throughout our entire border.”

Turkey asks Czech Republic to extradite Syrian Kurdish PYD leader
Turkey has officially requested the extradition of former Syrian Kurdish PYD leader Saleh Muslim from the Czech Republic. Ankara’s government spokesman, Bekir Bozdag, told NTV that Turkey’s Justice Ministry had delivered the extradition request to Czech authorities and added Muslim would appear in court Monday, Reuters reports. The main Syrian Kurdish political party said on Sunday that one of its leaders had been arrested in Prague at the behest of Turkey and charged with sedition. The top Kurdish politician has “full citizenship rights” as a Syrian national and was visiting Europe in an official capacity, according to the PYD party. It also accused the Turkish state of“demanding the arrest of individuals who are not its citizens… without any legal justifications.”A Turkish court charged him with“breaking the state and country’s unity”and other offenses.

>Here's the 11 Types of Russian Aircraft Known to Be Stationed in Syria1. SU-57
The Su-57 is Russia's first fifth-generation stealth jet, but they are only fitted with the AL-41F1 engines, the same engine on the Su-35, and not the Izdelie-30 engine, which is still undergoing testing.
2. SU-24
The Su-24 is one of Russia's older aircraft and will eventually be replaced by the Su-34, but it can still carry air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, as well as laser-guided bombs.
3. SU-25
The Frogfoot is another of Russia's older attack aircraft. It's designed to make low-flying attack runs and is comparable to the US's legendary A-10 Warthog.
Su-25s had flown more than 1,600 sorties and dropped more than 6,000 bombs by March 2016, just six months after their arrival in Syria.
One Su-25 was also shot down by Syrian rebels and shot the pilot before he blew himself up with a grenade in early February 2017.
4. SU-27SM3
The upgraded Flankers, which are versatile multirole fighters, were deployed to the war-torn country to provide escort for its other attack aircraft, among other tasks.
5. MIG-29SMT
The upgraded Fulcrum is able to carry a variety of air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles as well as laser-guided bombs.
6. SU-30SM
The Su-30SM, a versatile multirole fighter that's based off the Su-27, carries a variety of air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles and laser-guided bombs.
7. SU-34
The Fullback, which first deployed to Syria in September 2015, was Russia's most advanced fighter in the war-torn country for over a year.
It carries short-range R-73 and long-range radar-guided R-77 air-to-air missiles. It also carries Kh-59ME, Kh-31A, Kh-31P, Kh-29T, Kh-29L, and S-25LD air-to-ground missiles.
8. SU-35S
The Flanker first deployed to Syria in January 2016 and is one of Russia's most advanced fighters, able to hit targets on the ground and in the air without any air support.
9. A-50U
The A-50U is basically a "giant flying data-processing center" used to detect and track "a number of aerial (fighter jets, bombers, ballistic and cruise missiles), ground (tank columns) and surface (above-water vessels) targets," according to Sputnik, a Russian state-owned media outlet.
10. IL-20 "COOT"
The Coot "is equipped with a wide array of antennas, IR (Infrared) and Optical sensors, a SLAR (Side-Looking Airborne Radar) and satellite communication equipment for real-time data sharing," according to The Aviationist.
It's one of Russia's most sophisticated spy planes.
11. AN-24 "COKE"
The An-24 Coke is an older military cargo plane.

So, how long do you think it will take for Syria and Turkey to get into a war?
>>122497Not happening: That'll lead to war with Russia and Iran.
>>122497>>122499Which will in turn start WW3 because Turkey will bring in NATO. No one wants that.
>>122500>Turkey will bring in NATOCan't: Article V is a self-defense clause. If Russia attacks Turkey on Turkish soil, Turkey can invoke Article V.
But in this scenario, Turkey would be the aggressor, fighting on foreign soil. Turkey legally cannot invoke Article V. Why do you think America is trying to provoke Russia into attacking first?
>>122499I'm not saying Turkey will mean for such a war to start, but we all know what's coming. Turkey is directly supporting rebels in Syria against the Kurds and "terrorists", which still go unnamed by Turkish authorities. The SAA is fighting those exact same rebels in the exact same region. One of these days, someone is going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and there'll be a battle between Syrian and Turkish forces, I swear to you.

>One of these days, someone is going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and there'll be a battle between Syrian and Turkish forces, I swear to you.If the first part happens, I guarantee you that Assad and Erdogan will do whatever it takes to prevent war. Both realize that a war between Syria and Turkey benefits no one except their enemies (US/Israel).
Unconfirmed reports of high scale clashes between the #SAA and the #US led coalition.
https://twitter.com/WaelAlHussaini/status/968278275532435457 [Embed]Let me stress this: They're
UNCONFIRMED, so don't start breaking out the Doompauls/fausts just yet.
The commanders of the divisions are personally at fault for the 49th Army's failure to accomplish its objectives and for its heavy casualties. They still grossly violate the instructions of Comrade Putin and the order of the Front regarding the use of massed artillery to achieve a breakthrough, and about the tactics and techniques of attacking the defenses of populated areas. The units of the Tiger Forces for many days criminally continue their head-on attacks on Autaya, Beit Nayem and Jobar without any success, while suffering heavy losses.
Even a person with basic military education can understand that these settlements are very suitable defensive positions. The areas in front of these settlements are ideal for firing upon, but despite this the criminally conducted attacks continue in the same places. As a result of the stupidity and indiscipline of the organizers, people pay with their lives, without bringing any benefit to Souria.
If you still want to keep your current ranks, I demand:
Immediately stop the criminal head-on attacks on the settlements. Stop the head-on attacks on heights with good firing positions. When attacking make full use of ravines, forests and terrain that is not easily fired upon. Immediately breakthrough between the settlements and, without waiting for their complete fall, tomorrow capture Autaya, Jobar and advance up to Jisreen.
Report the execution of the order to me by 24:00 of 26 January.
—Order of Brigadier General Suheil al-hassan commander of the Tiger Forces, Syrian Arab Army on 26 February 2018
>Czech authorities release Syrian Kurdish leaderBEIRUT, LEBANON (1:25 P.M.) – The Czech authorities have released the leader of the Kurdish PYD, Salih Muslim, after detaining him in Prague over the weekend.
Salih Muslim was previously detained by the Czech authorities on behalf of Turkey, who claims that the PYD leader participated in a terrorist act with the outlawed PKK in 2007.
Turkey is still seeking his extradition to Ankara, but have failed to get the Czech authorities to agree to thus far.
Salih Muslim is considered one of the most influential Kurdish leaders in Syria; he often visits Damascus to negotiate on behalf of the Kurds in the northern part of the country.

>HTS launches massive counter-offensive in northern SyriaBEIRUT, LEBANON (3:15 P.M.) – The jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham launched a massive counter-offensive in northern Syria, today, targeting several areas under the control of Jabhat Tahrir Souriya.
Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham began their offensive by striking Jabhat Tahrir Souriya’s positions inside the northern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.
According to pro-HTS media, their forces captured the towns of Kafr Losen, Aqrabat, Deir Hassan, and Qah after a short battle with Jabhat Tahrir Souriya.
In addition to capturing these towns, HTS also took five rebels from Jabhat Tahrir Souriya prisoner after their assault on Qah.
HTS is now attacking the border-town of Atmeh, which is considered one of the most important points along the Turkish border.

>VIDEO: New Syrian faction declares resistance against USA occupation in RaqqaDAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:45: P.M.) – A newly-formed, pro-government faction in the Syrian northern city of Raqqa has just issued a statement declaring resistance against the American troops in the afflicted city.
“We officially declare the formation of the popular resistance in Raqqa to prevent the American aggression from taking over any part of our beloved Syria after it [USA] gathered terrorists from all over the world as their proxies; who destroyed the city of Raqqa and killed its innocent people”, the statement read.
The group introduced itself through Six rifle-wielding, masked men filmed in video footage and circulated on social media.
AMN hasn’t been able to verify the authenticity of the footage.
The group called on all the people of Raqqa to take part in the resistance by all means possible through “engaging in demonstrations, strikes and opposing all efforts to partition Syria”.
Meanwhile, the Syrian government accused the US of massacring scores of civilians in Deir Ezzor by conducting illegitimate airstrikes.

>Syrian Army enters new town in East Ghouta
BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:45 P.M.) – Minutes ago, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) entered the town of Al-Shifouniyah after a fierce battle with Jaysh Al-Islam in the eastern corridor of the East Ghouta region.
Led by the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army was able to infiltrate Jaysh Al-Islam’s defenses this afternoon, following the resumption of their field activity at 2:00 P.M. (Damascus Time).
The Syrian Army is now attempting to take control of Al-Shifouniyah, despite heavy resistance from Jaysh Al-Islam.
While the Syrian Army works to capture Al-Shifouniyah, their sappers are working to clear the town of Hawsh Dawahra of mines and IEDs that may have been left behind by Jaysh Al-Islam.
Hawsh Dawahra was captured last night, when the Tiger Forces launched a massive attack at dusk.

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (5:00 P.M.) – Heavy battles ripped through the jihadi-controlled Harasta suburb as the Syrian Army’s ground forces controlled new areas in the Eastern Ghouta region.
Led by the SAA’s elite 4th Armored Division, the government troops scored, today, a substantial gain in al-Ajami neighborhood in Harasta, securing two mosques used y militants as command headquarters.
According to an informed military source, the Syrian forces seized parts of the road linking Harasta to the rebel-bastion of Douma, and uncovered a network on tunnels.
“We aim at separating the two cities (Harasta and Douma)in order to neutralize militants”, the same source added.
Meanwhile, Army units recaptured Hawsh al-Dawahirah and Al-Shifouniyah towns after fierce battles with the Saudi-backed Jaysh al-Islam.

>Why the August operation to lift the siege off east Aleppo was possibly the most fatal strategic mistake rebels committed in this war:(1) After cutting the Castillo road through the Mallah Farms + Bani Zaid/ Layramoun, SAA was mostly intent on just maintaining the siege.
(2) At the time, I reported the surge in presence of Iraqi forces in Palmyra. 5,000 Iraqi fighters + ~2,000 Republican Guard.
(3) The operation to lift the siege off Deir Ezzor and set up for an attack on Raqqa was about to begin.
(4) On the other hand, the Tiger Forces, after securing their feat at Mallah, were to be deployed in Kuweirus for a Deir Hafer operation.
(5) Plan was that ISIS's presence in Raqqa was to be uprooted from two axes: from Deir Ezzor and from the Maskanah plains.
(6) It was clear that the Syrian Command had prioritized the fight against ISIS over battling the Idlib rebels, who are relatively contained
(7) ISIS weaker than ever, controls most of Syria's oil wells, and their hold over the tribal eastern Syria would vanquish when balance
(8) of power is upset in favor of the Ba'athist Syrian gov that had historically been successful in dealing w the Arab tribes of Raqqa+Deir.
(9) Unlike Idlib, Raqqa and eastern Syria generally have been pro-government bastions. Seizing them would free Syria's resources + pop boost
(10) Now, when the jihadists decided it was a good idea to launch a massive offensive to open some fantasy supply route through Ramousah
(11) and threaten the government's main supply route into the city, the Syrian Army was forced to recalibrate its priorities:
(12) Rebels would no longer be able to lift the siege off east Aleppo if there no longer is an east Aleppo.
(13) Iraqis were fully redeployed to south Aleppo countryside where they would contain jihadist advance south of Wadihi.
(14) The Tigers + Desert Hawks were ordered to begin their preparations for the capture of the city once the siege is reinstated.
(15) Aleppo city had become the priority, and the intense media propaganda campaign for east Aleppo only accelerated that.
(16) Prior to that, plan was to simply nibble on the edges of east Aleppo until attrition forces rebels to evacuate.
(17) Essentially, this rebel offensive got the Syrian command to decide that the strategic battle for northwest Syria should be neutralized.
(18) Thanks to rebel stupidity Syria's economic capital and 2nd most important city and population center is now virtually under gov control
(19) Instead of losing so much equipment, elite fighters, and capable commanders on such a losing battle, they could've attacked Hader
(20) to build a buffer zone around Idlib's northern CS and set up for a future Aleppo battle or even attacked Hama w that striking force.
(21) Now, after Aleppo, the strategic weight of the battle for northwestern Syria is gone for the most part. Priority will be ISIS.
(22) Most battles in northwest Syria revolved around the conquest of Aleppo for either side. Now that's gone, jihadis have no path to victory
(23) Now the Idlib rebels are contained for the most part, which is why they're attacking Kafraya and Foua'a as I expected they would.
(End) So this was how the foolish, fatefully stillborn jihadist Aleppo offensive accelerated their expulsion from Aleppo + subsequent demise

>Putin: Shelling from E. Ghouta which hit Russian embassy in Syria ‘won’t be tolerated forever
Moscow is not going to keep tolerating the daily shelling of Damascus by eastern Ghouta militants that recently hit the Russian embassy in Syria, President Vladimir Putin said after meeting Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
The current hotspot of the Syrian crisis – Eastern Ghouta on the outskirts of Damascus – is being used by numerous terrorist groups as a base, from which they launch attacks on the capital and other areas in the country, Putin said, responding to a Russian media journalist’s question on the situation there. Damascus is being shelled up to 80 times a day from the besieged area.
Putin particularly stressed that the Russian embassy in Damascus has come under mortar fire. The building has been shelled and suffered damage on numerous occasions during the Syrian conflict. On February 6, the Russian trade mission in the Syrian capital was also targeted. Luckily, the building was unoccupied, but civilians were injured in the attack.
“It’s well-known – at least, we know this well in Russia – that shells land even on the territory of the Russian embassy and trade mission. Are we going to tolerate this forever?” the president wondered.
Kurz urged Russia to influence the Syrian government and the situation in the country in order to facilitate a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
CONT
>>123087“I appeal to Russia, as it has influence there [in Syria] and has a responsibility. Being a superpower, it can influence the regime [of President Bashar Assad], the situation in Syria. Therefore, we hope that everyone will return to the negotiating table and swiftly stop this war,” Kurz said.
“The situation is difficult [in Syria], the prospects of the peaceful settlement depend on the warring parties – on their internal desire to achieve this settlement and preserve the territorial integrity and unity of their country,” Putin said, adding that “the influence of regional countries and key international players is very important.”
According to the Russian leader, Moscow will “strive to establish political dialogue” and ensure the beginning of the work on the new Syrian constitution. Russia will also work to turn the de-escalation zones in Syria into “areas of cooperation between Damascus and the opposition,” he added.
The Ukrainian issue was also discussed during the talks, with Putin reiterating that Moscow wouldn’t object to the deployment of international peacekeepers in the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. The President also said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which will connect Germany and Russia via the Baltic Sea, is “an absolutely depoliticized” project. He said the pipeline isn’t viewed as “an alternative to the Ukrainian transit route,” adding that Moscow is ready to continue co-operation with Kiev in this area. According to Kurz, Austria has “a positive approach to the [Nord Stream 2] project as well as Germany and other states,” but a lot of details have yet to be worked out.

>US training Europe to use tactical nukes against Russia is threat to non-proliferation – Lavrov
US programs which train non-nuclear powers on how to use American tactical nuclear weapons violate the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
Lavrov’s comments reiterate Russia’s critical stance regarding the US and its training of NATO allies. The US is training European states who do not possess nuclear arsenals of their own on how to use American nuclear weapons stationed there. Moscow considers it a breach of the NTP, the cornerstone of the current non-proliferation regime.
Lavrov criticized the US deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on European soil as well as the involvement of non-nuclear states in training programs, at a session of the UN Conference on Disarmament in Geneva on Wednesday.
“Everybody should understand that the US military are preparing the militaries of European states to use tactical nuclear weapons against Russia,” he stressed.
The US stores an estimated 200 of its B61 nuclear bombs in countries including Germany, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey as part of NATO’s nuclear-sharing program. Russia considers the presence of American nuclear weapons in other nations as a hostile gesture. The US is currently upgrading the B61, making the weapon more flexible in use, claiming it is necessary to counter Russia’s arsenal of tactical nuclear weapons. Russia says its arsenal is necessary to protect it from NATO’s overwhelming superiority in terms of conventional arms.
>Afghan president offers recognition of Taliban as political group, says talks possibleAfghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani offered recognition of the Taliban as a legitimate political group on Wednesday. He said a proposed political process could lead to talks aimed at ending more than 16 years of war, Reuters reports. The offer was made at the start of an international conference aimed at creating a platform for peace talks. Ghani’s statement adds to a series of signals from both the Western-backed government and the Taliban suggesting a greater willingness to consider dialogue. The president proposed a ceasefire and a release of prisoners as part of a range of options including new elections, involving the militants, and a constitutional review as part of a pact with the Taliban.

The March 15 conference in Rome, hosted by Sweden, Jordan and Egypt, will be attended by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini. Both officials have called on countries to step in and fill the gap left by the US cuts, AFP said. The US announced in January that it would give $60 million to UNRWA – a fraction of the $350 million annual contribution that it previously provided to the UN agency’s budget. Washington is the biggest single donor to UNRWA. The agency provides schools and health clinics to 5.3 million refugees in the Palestinian territories, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

>Lebanon PM Hariri in Saudi Arabia for 1st visit since reversed resignationLebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has headed to Saudi Arabia for his first visit to the kingdom since his now-reversed resignation from Riyadh late last year. The move was followed by a bizarre sequence of events that deeply strained relations between the two countries. Hariri arrived in Saudi Arabia early on Wednesday, and is expected to meet the king and his powerful crown prince, AP reports. His visit follows an invite by a Saudi envoy who visited Hariri in Beirut. The PM reversed a resignation that he submitted from the kingdom upon returning to Beirut, saying he reached a domestic deal to distance Lebanon from regional conflicts. The resignation was widely perceived as Saudi-orchestrated.

The statement came following a meeting of the Russian-Iraqi intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation. However, possible US sanctions are an obstacle to Baghdad’s purchase of the systems. The US has warned Iraq, among a number of other countries, of the consequences of striking deals to purchase advanced weaponry from Russia, particularly the S-400 missile defense systems. The US State Department has said that Washington had contacted many countries, including Iraq, to explain the significance of the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, and possible consequences that would arise in the wake of defense agreements with Russia.

>Philippines hails US decision to blacklist local ISIS-linked groupsThe Philippines hailed on Wednesday Washington’s decision to blacklist two local pro-Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) groups. The US State Department and the Department of Treasury designated the Maute group and the Dawlatul Islamiyah Waliyatul Masrik as “terrorist organizations” on Tuesday, blocking US-based assets belonging to them or their supporters and barring Americans from dealing with them, AFP said. The move is an “affirmation of what Philippine authorities already know – that the Maute Group and the Dawlah-Islamiya are terrorist groups,” a statement by the Defense Ministry in Manila said. They will be denied access to the US financial system and will face sanctions, making it more difficult for them to conduct their activities in the Philippines and abroad, it added. Militants from the Maute group were routed from Marawi last October after a five-month battle. It was sparked by its bid to establish an IS caliphate in the largely Catholic country’s southern Mindanao region.

Ankara also accused France of giving “false information” on the issue, Reuters reports. Ankara has said the UN resolution demanding a 30-day ceasefire across Syria does not apply to its five-week-old military operation in Afrin against the Kurdish YPG militia. Turkey considers the YPG a terrorist group. In statements to two NATO allies, Turkey’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said a US State Department appeal that Turkey “go back and read” the ceasefire resolution was unfounded. He also denied that Paris had told Ankara that the truce also applied to its Afrin campaign.

UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson earlier said the UK might support military action against the Syrian government troops, if there was irrefutable evidence that Damascus had used chemical weapons, TASS reported. Commenting on Johnson’s words, the Russian ministry’s spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said the UN representatives who have free access to eastern Ghouta “have never found any evidence that these reports are true.”

There might be a quiet agreement if they will be "good goyish enough" that they might count on some nuke-tech to prevent Majoosi expansion. Yet, in return Iran might invite Chinks.
Nothing but further escalation, tbh.

>State Dept Assures American People Trump Admin Is Handling N. Korea, Iran, SyriaState Department spokesperson Heather Nauert assured the American people on Wednesday that the Trump administration was handling the crises surrounding North Korea, Iran, and Syria.
Fox Business host Stuart Varney asked Nauert about concerns in the Middle East, particularly in regards to Syria. Varney asked if there was a "clear-and-present danger" to the United States, which Nauert said should not be a concern to the American people.
"I don't want to worry the American public. We are on this, administration-wide, from the White House, the State Department, Department of Defense, all of us are working very, very hard on this," Nauert said. "We are seeing some successes. It's not something that's going to happen overnight. This is something that took years and years to develop and now we'll continue to be focused on it so stay tuned."
Earlier in the conversation, Varney specifically asked about reports North Korea sold chemical weapons materials to the Assad regime in Syria and about Iran establishing bases in Syria "as a launchpad into Israel."
The spokesperson said North Korea was "desperate," which is why they may have sold chemical weapons to the Syrian regime. On the subject of Iran, she said the Islamic Republic presented a threat to many countries in the region by sending weapons to terrorist organizations throughout the Middle East.
"We have seen that Iran has malign influence all across the world, not just in that region, but all across the world," Nauert said.
Nauert added that the Obama administration failed to look at non-nuclear related actions made by Iran.
"The previous administration had simply looked at Iran with regard to the nuclear deal, forgetting all the other bad things that Iran is doing, such as funding and backing Hezbollah," she said. "So the president has decided to really focus on that in addition to the nuclear deal."

French ministry of foreign affairs
>Syria - Q&A - Excerpts from the daily press briefing (28.02.18)Q – This morning, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused rebel groups in Eastern Ghouta of blocking the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians who wish to leave. What is your response?
A – All concerned parties must fully implement the provisions of UN Security Council resolution 2401, which calls for the establishment of a permanent truce lasting at least 30 days. This truce is absolutely necessary to allow humanitarian actors to deliver aid and to securely evacuate the sick and injured.
Armed groups in Eastern Ghouta pledged to the UN Security Council that they would abide by resolution 2401 and accept the truce. Bashar al-Assad’s regime, on the other hand, did not make such a commitment. But he must abide by Security Council resolutions.
We are therefore asking backers of the Syrian regime to exert maximum pressure to force it to implement its obligations.

>Ambassador Ala: Misleading campaigns against Syrian government aim at rescuing terroristsSyria’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hussam Eddin Ala, said that the false accusations against the Syrian government, which fights terrorism and protects its citizens from crimes of terrorists, aim at rescuing and protecting terrorist organizations in order to continue using them against the Syrian state and its people.
“The Syrian state is fighting terrorism and protecting its citizens from terrorist crimes. It has taken all steps to ensure the safety of civilians and has allocated safe passage for their exit and provided them with full needs. In contrary, Jabhat al-Nusra and its allies of terrorist organizations continue to shell indiscriminately the city of Damascus and the safe corridor designated for the exit of civilians from Eastern Ghouta and prevent them from leaving the area.” Ala added in a speech during the plenary session of the 37th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Wednesday.
“We have heard speeches that cry the Syrians in Ghouta, but those same people did not care about the suffering of the victims of the indiscriminate attacks on Damascus. We have heard from those who demanded the implementation of UNSC’s resolutions and the cessation of what they called hell on the ground in Ghouta,” the Ambassador said.
He continued to say that those same people failed to demand an end to the illegal US-led coalition, to respect Syrian sovereignty, to stop the hell of the US raids that destroyed the whole Raqqa city and committed massacres against civilians as they remained silent about the Turkish aggression on the Syrian territory and the massacres committed by the invading Turkish forces and their mercenaries against civilians in the city of Afrin and their endeavor to impose a siege on more than 1 million residents in the region.”

>Iran builds new military base near Damascus — mediaIran has established a new permanent military base near Syria’s capital that allegedly has hangers for storing missiles, Fox News TV channel reported.
According to Western intelligence sources, the facility is located eight miles (12 km) northwest of Damascus. The website shows satellite images allegedly confirming this. The base is controlled by the Quds Force, the special operations arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), it claims.
The TV channel says the photos show two new hangars, each roughly 30 yards by 20 yards, used to store short-and medium-range missiles "capable of hitting all of Israel."
Last year, satellite photos revealed another Iranian base to the south of Damascus, which was allegedly destroyed in December by a missile strike by Israeli forces, the report says.
Israel has repeatedly accused Tehran of building facilities for manufacturing high-precision guided missiles in Syria and Lebanon.

US blocks Russia-drafted statement at UN Security Council
The United States is blocking the vote for the Russia-drafted statement for implementation of the ceasefire in Syria, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzia said.
The US delegation suggested new amendments overhauling its fundamentals should be added to the statement, which is an ‘official UN document one step below a resolution,’ he added.
"The Americans presented [their] amendments which basically is nothing about our PRST [Presidential statement]. There is nothing out of our PRST in their amendments so that's what happened so far," Nebenzia said noting that what the US had named as "amendments" were "just a new PRST."
Russia put forward a proposal at the United Nations Security Council session on Wednesday that a statement in support of the resolution ordering a cessation of hostilities in Syria be adopted. Nebenzia read out extracts from the Russia-drafted statement, which includes an appeal to all parties to the conflict to implement the UN ceasefire resolution and a request to the armed opposition and the countries, which can influence them, "to provide security of humanitarian corridors to enable evacuations [of civilians] from Eastern Ghouta.".

>A 15-year-old Syrian boy is tweeting heartbreaking videos of Eastern Ghouta under attack from furious Russian and government airstrikes15-year-old Muhammed Najem, who lives in the heavily bombarded area of Eastern Ghouta in Syria, first tweeted in early December 2017.
“I am Muhammed Najem I am fifteen years old I live in the eastern Gouta,” Najem tweeted on December 7. “I will convey to you all the events which is being commited by the assad rigime in the Eastern Gouta through my own social media Facebook and Twitter.”
Najem, who says he wants to be a reporter, has since posted several heartbreaking photos and videos of children and adults killed in airstrikes, some of whom he says were his friends.
https://twitter.com/muhammadnajem20/with_replies>While CNN, The Guardian, BuzzFeed News, and other outlets have reported on Najem, the authenticity of his photos and videos have not been independently verified. But Kenan Rahmani, who works with the Syria Campaign, told BuzzFeed News that his sources in the region have said that Najem is “legit.”
>Still, this has not stopped Russian trolls from attacking Najem on social media.“CNN found a new Bana to promote its regime change narrative,” Dan Cohen, a Russia Today correspondent, tweeted last week. “Unsurprisingly, neither the article nor video bother to mention that eastern Ghouta is held by a collection of jihadist insurgents.”

>>123145>>123146>Trump Admin Is Handling N. Korea, Iran, Syria>AdminRather interesting choice of words there. I wonder if Trump has become completely powerless in foreign policy, and this is merely signaling this hypothesis.
Of course, it could just be more hot air, and there's rampant infighting as evidenced by State Department issuing statements that they're not arming Kurds while Pentagon says the opposite.
>We are on this, administration-wide, from the White House, the State Department, Department of Defense,So, the White House, State Department, and DoD (including Pentagon) are in agreement now. That's rather scary.
US Gov couldn't do much in the world after Trump got elected because there was government infighting from differing and opposing agendas, but this seems to indicate that the infighting has ended and there is a single agenda. If true, then prepare to see some.. interesting times ahead.
If it's true.

>Breaking: Syrian Army captures new town inside East GhoutaBEIRUT, LEBANON (2:50 A.M.) – For the third night in a row, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has launched a big assault at night, targeting several areas around the East Ghouta region.
Led by the Republican Guard, the Syrian Arab Army stormed the small town of Hawsh Al-Zarqiyah from their positions at the recently captured air defense base.
The Syrian Army attack would prove too much for the Islamist rebels of Jaysh Al-Islam, as they were ultimately forced to withdraw east to the nearby town of Utaya.
According to a military source, the Syrian Army is now heavily shelling the southwestern and northwestern flanks of Utaya; they are expected to attack the town in the coming hours.

https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/breaking-syrian-army-repels-militant-assault-north-hama/>Breaking: Syrian Army repels militant assault in north HamaBEIRUT, LEBANON (2:36 P.M.) – Syrian troops have repelled an attack by rebel fighters against their positions at the Zilin checkpoint area in Hama province’s northern countryside.
Military-affiliated sources report that militants (faction unstated but most likely Free Syrian Army-affiliated) attempted to infiltrate government lines at the Zilin checkpoint on very early Friday morning.
The rebel raiding party – advancing under the cover of night – was sprung by Syrian sentry forces equipped with night vision who promptly directed artillery onto the attackers, breaking up their ranks and pushing them to retreat.
In all probability, the insurgent fighters were looking from a cheap tactical victory in the form of killing and capturing a small number of Syrian sentry troops near the front-line as well as seizing some weapons.
The engagement on early Friday morning is by no means the first time rebel forces have attempted to infiltrate government positions at and nearby to the Zilin checkpoint.

>Breaking: Elite Syrian troops on the verge of seizing two big militant strongholds in east Damascus after swift advance
BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:01 P.M.) – After a sudden advance made just moments ago, elite Syrian forces now find themselves on the verge of seizing two large militant strongholds in Damascus’ East Ghouta region.
According to military-affiliated sources, assault units of the Syrian Army’s elite Tiger Forces Division have taken full control over the main road that connects the rebel-held towns of Ash-Shifunyah, Uataya and Beit Sawa in eastern Damascus.
By this advance, all militant supply lines between Ash-Shifunyah and Uataya have been cut and thus the latter stronghold town is now de facto isolated from the rest of the East Ghouta pocket.
According to Al-Masdar News journalist Ibrahim Joudeh, the town of Uataya is likely to fall to the Syrian Army in the hours to come, followed not long after by Ash-Shifunyah.
Both Ash-Shifunyah and Uataya have been under the control of Damascus-based rebel groups for many years. Their capture by the Syrian Army would not only be a big PR victory for government forces, but would also serve to tear a a major gap open in militant lines.

>Breaking: Syrian Army enters new town in East Ghouta
BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:40 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched their fourth night assault this week in the East Ghouta region, tonight, targeting several areas under the control of the Islamist rebels.
Led by the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army began tonight’s assault by storming the town of Hawsh Ash’ari in the eastern corridor of the East Ghouta.
Following a brief battle at the town’s outskirts, the Syrian Army was able to bypass Jaysh Al-Islam’s first line of defense at Hawsh Ash’ari, forcing them to withdraw further east.
The Syrian Army then moved inside of Hawsh Ash’ari, where they were confronted by a large Jaysh Al-Islam force at the eastern flank of the town.
Intense clashes are currently ongoing, despite some preliminary reports that indicated that the town has been captured.

>Eastern Ghouta residents start forming armed groups to break militants' siegeCivic activists in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta have begun to form small armed groups to break the militants’ blockade and reach areas controlled by the government, Spokesman for the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria Major General Vladimir Zolotukhin told reporters.
"We have been receiving reports about the difficult humanitarian situation [in Eastern Ghouta - TASS], the lack of food and medicine, as well as numerous complaints about persecution on the part of militants," he said, adding that "it causes growing discontent among locals and even outbreaks of protest." "There is information that some civic activists are forming small armed groups, planning to break the militants’ blockade and reach areas controlled by the government," Zolotukhin noted.
The Russian Center for Reconciliation once again called on the leaders of illegal armed units to stop the persecution of civilians and allow them to leave Eastern Ghouta.
Zolotukhin earlier said that clashes between locals and militants had taken place in Eastern Ghouta on Wednesday, leaving four civilians and three terrorists dead.
At the Russian president’s order, a daily humanitarian pause from 09:00 to 14:00 is in effect in Eastern Ghouta starting from February 27, aimed at providing civilians with an opportunity to leave the area. However, militants disrupted the first three humanitarian pauses. According to sources in the Russian Center for Reconciliation, militants many times shelled the humanitarian corridor set up for civilians willing to exit from the enclave. They also prevented people from leaving threatening them with death.

Good evening! Long time since I showed attention at this general. As a few of you may know, I´m making a comic that has been taking me all the time I used to draw weekly. Fortunately, I´ve just completed the last page that used more than one panel. There´re still more pages until the end of it, but the rest will be about just one single image per page. That way I´m gonna work faster than before. And that means I´ll be able to get back to draw more things besides the comic... which means more Syrianas for all of you!
Here, have one sketch as a mere sample. I´ll try to bring more nsfw content since now

Breaking: Syrian Army moments away from capturing another key militant stronghold in east Damascus
BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:57 P.M.) – Following the swift seizure of Uataya, Hazrama and An-Nashabiyah from Islamist rebels in Damascus’ East Ghouta region earlier on Saturday, the Syrian Army is now on the verge of capturing yet another long-standing militant stronghold – the town of Ash-Shifunyah.
According to reports from some military-affiliated sources, the Syrian Army ha managed to seize at least half of Ash-Shifunyah following 24 hours of violent clashes with Jaysh al-Islam fighters.
Interesting enough, Al-Masdar News journalist Ibrahim Joudeh has stated that Syrian troops actually control more like 80 to 90 percent of the town.
In any case, it has become apparent that Ash-Shifunyah will likely fall to the Syrian Army very soon, particularly since most of the assault units involved in the Uataya battle are now freed for operations elsewhere.
Should the town be seized within the next few hours then the Syrian Army will have captured its forth militant stronghold of the day – a record advance in the history of East Ghouta operations.

>Breaking: Syrian Army readies for major offensive in northwest Hama – reports
BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:45 P.M.) – Forces of the Syrian Army and allied paramilitaries appear to be preparing for a major offensive operation against rebel groups in the northwestern countryside of Hama province according to some pro-government sources.
Reports state that the Syrian Army and allied forces are mobilizing significant numbers of troops and equipment at the frontline opposite the long-standing militant stronghold of Qalaat al-Mudiq.
If the reports true and Qalaat al-Mudiq is the target, then Syrian pro-government forces will be opening up a front in a region of Hama province that has been relatively quiet for many years.
Earlier on in the Syrian conflict, the Syrian Army suffered major losses during multiple assaults (all of which failed) to recapture Qalaat al-Mudiq from Islamist fighters.

>Syrian Army publishes video of militants firing on 2 children fleeing battle in East Ghouta
The Syrian Army has sent a video to Russian Center for reconciliation of opposing sides in Syria showing two children fleeing Eastern Ghouta in the night through a humanitarian corridor.
A girl and a boy managed to escape through the humanitarian corridor on Friday night with army being able to pick them and organize cover as the militants were shooting at them.
On February 24, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2401 that urges all conflicting parties to immediately stop all hostilities and adhere to a long-term humanitarian pause across Syria in order to ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.
Russia, in turn, proposed an initiative of organizing a five-hour humanitarian pause to ensure humanitarian supplies and evacuations from the area.
However, militants, operating in Eastern Ghouta continue shelling and prevent the humanitarian operations from being implemented.
