Also, in contrast, what kind of semi-political tropes are good to see in /mlp/ fanfiction? I'd like to know, because this board could use some original stories for OCs.

I honestly can't think of any examples that stood out. Maybe it's because I only read greens from /mlp/?

It can be seen through a lot of pc novels and stories. Set in mlp fanfiction a scenario with this trope would look something like this: A stallion talks in a condescending manner towards Twilight, [read: mansplaining]. Twilight tells him subtly, sometimes not at all, to shut the fuck up and learn his place. All ”good ” characters approve and all ”bad” disapproves of her actions.

There is more to this trope that I would add but I don't have the time right now. OP is a fag and needs his sleep.

Almost all fanfiction I read is 2nd person shipping so that doesn't leave much room for shitlib cliches. The only recurring one I can think of is when the human in Equestria talks about how accepting everyone is of humans except for "a few old-fashioned bigots".

My definition of a story is that it is suppose to have a moral/message. To accomplice this scenes have to argue for the moral of the story. If a story does not have an overarching moral however then the story is more like a simulation where things just happened. Such a story would have no end either, since the story ends when the moral is revealed.

Acording to tv-tropes, whom mix thier cards in thier description tropes, tropes are every pattern in story-telling. This is however disgenuine since when people talk about tropes the generally mean cliches in story telling and not narration.

So to answer the question at hand. I think that tropes that implicate a specific message that fit the rest of the story and contribute to the overarching message, are the tropes that are correctly used. A trope that has a morally good message but is not relavent to the storys plot nor overarching story will only get in the face of the reader, is my belief.

This are some semi-political good tropes I would purpose:

Generaliztion of groups – Don't be afraid to write that a group of people is generally a specific way. We konw that peoples are different and therefore they can be written in that way. The argument should allways be if the generalization is true or not and not if you who write it is a racist.

Let for example females be feminine and act emotional sometimes.

Family values.

Perhaps some from of hierarchy and so on.

But other values like modesty and such can be explored aswell.

The belief in absolute right and wrong.

I don't know which tropes fits with these messages but searching on tv-tropes with fitting keywords would probably solve that problem.

The other praragraph is interesting, since it reminds me of the hypocrisy in the anime community surrounding Eromanga sensei and Yuri on ice. The first everyone loves to talk shit about since it is about incest and the other no one dares utter a word about, since that would be homophobic.

I haven't really read much darkfics. I never really understood the appeal.But then again I haven't read more then rainbow factory and cupcakes so what do I really know about the genre. Why do you read them?

However erotic novels I have read my share of and I have some criticism towards that genre. My critism is mostly that perverse acts take over the more romantic parts, senual and the character interactions and theirfore the realism of the story. Maybe not the realism but definitively the emotional impact.

They allways need to come up with something new; normal vanilla sex is not good enough for them. The thing is though that it should be the very highlight of the mating.

So they increase the perversion instead since they can't write characters, story and about feminine behavior that men find attractive nor likable female characters.

Not to diss them completely but sometimes it really is just too bad.

Also the polarity between the sexes and contrast are elements that should be more explored then they are now. For example: I like woman how are a little bashful.

Come to think of it. Sagari in Eromanga sensei is an success in how to create an appealing female character. She is definitively attractive and best girl.

I don't really know why I like darkfics like Cupcakes and Rainbow Factory so much. When it's HiE, and main character starts to talk how bad Earth is, how horrible beings humans are.
How some people are rich and others live in poverty, and how happy he is that Equestria isn't like that. I fucking hate that misanthropic whinning.

Or when we have some "damaged" person, maybe someone who was bullied, or had family problems, but he needs only some "friendship", or "kindness" to became happy again.

When we have soldier in Equestria fic, and main character jumps on first chance to fight big baddies, to risk his life for foreign country and ponies he barely knows because it's "good and proper" thing to do. Written probably by people who never were even in fist fight.

When Celestia and Luna are portrayed either as some kind of great, benovelent goddeses, or some great warriors, usually they use some ridiculous, oversized weapons, because it's more badass.

When in romance fic, everything moves to fast, main character knows his waifu barely for few days, but he's ready to die for her, and they often fuck in the firts few days of dating.

I just love how in every go I read seems like no one is actually scared of a giant ape looking demon that speaks in unknown languages for the horses, talks of things that don't exist and everything that makes a human contrast with a horse.
Just think about it, if all of a sudden a monstrosity that resembles nothing you have ever seen just randomly appears on Earth and tries to talk to you, insists on talking even when you don't get shit of what he's saying.
Most people would be scared shirtless, but for ponies it's all about magic and tolerance, right?
I was reading a fic, steel sanctuary, it had a good way of illustrating what I'm talking about.

There's another thing that really bothers me with the stories, anon is always friends with everyone after a while, I mean it's like everyone suddenly wants to be friends with anon without real reason (I'm using anon to refer to the main character).
It's like the ponies are always hollow stereotypes instead of actual characters with motivations, values and emotions, they are just things that kinda react to what's happening and appear when needed instead of actual beings that act accordingly to their reasons.

The reason Anon is friendly is because it's supposed to be a fantasy world. If you can't be accepted by multicolour equines that likes tolerance you need to sort yourself out.

I know the whole point of the fic is how ponies see anon as a threat and how this is modified from story to story, but I feel there is a lot of stories with friendly ponies, writefags could use this as a neat way of spicing up a plot

When protagonist suddenly is oh, so great friend with all of main 6. They are really different ponies, with different interests and hobbies, just because magic of friendship put them together, doesn't mean that our Anon would be best friend with all of them. I can understand that he's friend with one or two of them and because of that he has some contact with others, but no. It's always Anon who like animals, sports, books, apples, fashion and childish parties. And in most of the cases he has no other friends than M6. They are the only one he has some contact.

When all pony races are portrayed as equal. As a whole maybe they are equal (maybe there are more Earth ponies than others or something) but when we speak about smaller scale, earth ponies are just at big disadvantage. They don't have some super strength. AJ is as strong as RD. They just do things related to their talents a lot better (Maud and rock).

When some character suddenly have some bizzare skills, never indicated in a show, injected just because author likes this character. Like Rarity suddenly being sword master or some other shit.

When there is a fight and M6 win against trained opponents. Especially if their enemies have armor and weapons. Rd has martial training, and Twilight is OP, maybe AJ can also fight, but aside of them rest of main 6 should be dead in minutes. But no, Pinkie suddenly spawn canon, and defeat trained, armored soldiers with cakes and confetti. Really rustles my jimmies.

When it's indicated that Equestria was in peace for 1000 years, but when conflict arises they whip trained and funcioning military in few weeks. And suddenly we have some ponies with badass, military related cutie marks. If we consider how young pone is when getting cutie mark, it's highly unlikely that such cutie marks would appear in the time of peace.

When author just doesn't like some pony so he writes her as asshole. I like a lot more, when Anon just has some conflict with pony because their characters simply don't match than when one of M6 is suddenly written as sociopath or giant cunt just because.

When there is a war and whole explanation is that "those bad griphons or minotaurs just attacked us, peacefull nation, without any reason. We beg you Anon help us. No, we never did anything that would cause such vile act". And our great hero always agree to help, he never tries to know some more, to maybe get some information from other side, no, he just takes sword and goes to frontlines to help poor poners. Equestria is always one attacked by unforgiving enemy without any reason.

My most hated cliche is when threads like this are full of people going "Anon in Equestria stories suck and I hate the cliches that make up the core of their appeal".

HIE stories are shit, HIE stories are always shit, and a good HIE story would have to be so far removed from the typical HIE story and its checklists and cliches that you might as well make your own unique thing. Even if you make the best HIE story ever, rejecting and "Subverting" every cliche, you'll still just be left with a fucking HIE story, just one HIE fanboys can't fap to.

My least favorite fimfic cliche? "Here's John Normalpony, a bland generic cookie-cutter protagonist with no identifying features, real personality, set-in-stone personality traits, or likability". There are so many John Normalpony OCs on Fimfic that barely anyone knows how to say anything about actually-original characters other than "Non-normal equals sue, cringey lameo sue badthink wrongthink doubleplus cringe ungood, now stop trying to be something and come back to our bad HIE featurebait circlejerk".

I think if that I can fit your cliches in a shitlibs narrative but it is going to be a bit forced. What I mean is that I think is the reason why these cliches are written in the first place is due to the motive I asign them to, but it could a be motive that I havn't considered.

I think this comes from the thought that alturism is a form of egoism. That everyone just wants to forfill their own ego when they do something good, even if they don't show what they did to others. Therefore Everyone is a egoist and egosim and selfishness is evil.

Even if people would generally be evil that doesn't mean there arn't an minority of exceptions.

I would say that this stems from the sociallist/communist sphere. They assume that it could be in any other way and maybe it could I just don't see how. They think that the rich should share their wealth with the poor.

They think this because they don't believe that it is right for people to own their own things. No matter if you have wroked for it, inherit it, inveted it or been given it everything is a privilege to them if someone else have it and they don't.

What they don't seem to get is that if the people in key position, people with high pay but excluding shit ocupation like lobbist, being jewish and politicans, society would collapse. As an example: If doctors were to disappear one day, people suffering from illness only educated doctors can cure would die.

And today poverty is almost onexisting, revativliy speaking, am not taking about the white slums in south africa or england nor the no-go zones, in the white world. I have also heared that white slums are growing in the western world but I honestly don't know how it looks and i don't have the time to look it up and make a correct judgment over it right now, so I will just leave it for now. Right now I am comparing the white world to the third world countries.

The youtuber Evaalion had a good video about how foregin aid isn't helping in africa but it seems to have been taken down.

To motivate people to pay taxes for a common good in the first place you have to have a sense of belonging ->race/people/identity. Sense we don't have that it gets harder to motivate people to pay taxes.

I am also more into the idea of ideal working healtcare and communities, like the grey monks who tock care of the ill, not for money but for a sense of purpose that it was the right thing to do. There was no buracracy involved, I think, nor any of others money being spent. People were also not as indiffrent and actually did something themselves, which they allways were capalbe of doing. For example in the health care of the elders here in sweden most family could take care of their own elders but they don't and leave it for the healthcare personal to do the work for them.

I also think it is better to not give people who are poor a way to provide for themselves rather than providing wellfare checks. Showing them the way. But I do think that there might be, I have not considerd all the implications, some truth to leftish idea that when low paying jobs and infaulation...

I do like comforting and support in fiction and in real life but I know what you are talking about. It reminds me of the idea that we are blank slates and are all just consequnces of are experince in life. Therefore if you have a terrible childhood without friendship you will be a terrible person but if you get some kindness you will start to believe in friendship again, start to trust others and be kind. It is a good thing the main six never befriends an anon that is a psykopath.

I will use the sociology term: Social stigma. Even if it seems to have been coined by jews, pics related. But I have not researched more than wikipedia. I just knew about the term since it is used in society today.

So I might use the term incorrect from its original definition and intent and instead use it by what people believe it to be. In the same matter that people use gender, unaware of what it actually means.

So if social stigma is the acceptable behavoir and opinions in society. What is okay and acceptable behavior in the public is determined by the people who rule the information outlets, the media. In smaller groups what is socially acceptable is more the determine by the group. But to people who don't know what the others think the rules on what is acceptable is still knowed by each individual.

So when you break the social stigma, what is acceptable behavior atleast according to media, everyone knows that you break it. In other words you are not pc.

This is what causes staements to have shock value and the more you break the stigma the more you weaken the their controll over what you can say. The drawback is the obvious everything you say will be used against you a dishonest way to make you look bad.
