A topic I've occasionally pondered. I don't think its strictly a left v right paradigm. One group will often say if you don't believe in xyz then you MUST belong to the other group., with no ifs, buts, or maybes. I don't think lefties are inherently unhappy as a collective, just the ones that scream and shout are.
The same could be said about the right, as most of the screamy shouty ones are equally unhappy, with both sides being upset for different reasons, often from opposing viewpoints.
Institutional capture in academia/media/tech has sometimes rewarded left-coded grievance more visibly in recent decades, while right-coded anger thrives in populist backlash. Root causes are human universals. Envy, fear of change, loss aversion.

They aren't going after CEOs who tax-evade and have massive parachutes and whatnot. They don't go after white-collar wolves of Wall Street. They are way more focused on me, or "nazis" and "fascists" words they throw so lightly it could literally be anyone, than on economical villains.
I feel like they focus more on issues like, diversity, lbtq issues, atheismbut really just anti-christian since they don't mind hindu/buddhism/judeism/islam, and environmentalism, than economics these days. I probably forgot something in my list of examples, but you get my point.

We've had a few drop by this site, though they usually don't stick around. The problem is that Marxist theory is very dense, and at this point most of it is irrelevant because it's all tailored to nineteenth century economics. Most modern people don't have the attention span required to sit and absorb it all, least of all the kind of whiny emotional brats that are drawn to far-left politics these days. Actual Communism is a niche ideology, even on the left.

Most of the current far left is made up of downwardly-mobile millennials and zoomers from the upper and middle classes, at least that's how it is in America. They might be willing to self-identify as Marxists or Communists but that doesn't necessarily mean they know anything about Communism, or economics of any kind. They tend to be emotionally reactive people and they obsess over the issues that rustle their jimmies the hardest, which usually means emotionally-charged issues like racism, gay/trans whatever bullshit, "climate change", and so forth. To the extent that they actually care about economics at all, they only understand economic concepts in simple, emotional terms: "my life sucks, I'm poor, it must be because greedy racist billionaires are hoarding all the wealth." The person thinking like this is usually some 20-something-year-old dipshit who has a low-paying job due to having no marketable skills or experience, and probably also spends gobs of money on Funko pops and DoorDash delivery. If they're in their 30s or higher and are still thinking this way, they are probably beyond redemption.
This is completely subjective so take it with a grain of salt, but in my experience the more screwed-up someone is mentally and emotionally, the more likely they are to be drawn to extreme left-wing politics. We have a few crazies on our side too, but the far left has a lot more of them. Every person I've ever met with left-wing views also has depression and low self-esteem; I don't think I've ever met a happy leftist. The more insane and emotionally unstable someone is, the further left they are likely to be. I don't think the takeaway here is that far-left ideas screw people up, I think it's more that screwed-up people tend to be drawn to these kinds of utopian ideas. It's probably a defense mechanism of some sort, like they use politics as a way to escape from whatever internal disorder is making them so miserable.
Anyway, to answer your original question, yes; lefties don't hate you because of anything tangible that you've done, they're just messed-up people who want to lash out and destroy everything.
