Honestly this is pretty old news, I've been hearing whispers about this for a long time. Biden was never supposed to be anything more than a placeholder until they could find someone better. Trouble is they don't really have anyone else, so it's kind of a moot point.
They could run Hillary again I guess, or try their luck with Gavin Newsom or Michelle Obama, but those would actually be pretty big gambles. They would also need to move quickly, as they would need to consolidate support around an alt candidate and figure out a way to jettison both Biden and Harris all before the primaries seriously get going. Biden is basically senile and just does whatever his handlers tell him, so I don't think he'd be a problem. Harris though is just the right combination of ambitious and stupid. She seems like the type who would be just dumb enough to think it's her turn and put up a serious fight, which means they'd be at risk of splitting the party at a critical moment.
In any case, they don't have anyone eligible on hand who is both well-known and well-liked by the general public, so they would basically have to build a campaign from scratch for whoever they pick as the replacement. This late in the game that might actually be riskier than just sticking with what they already have. It's basically a choice between staying with a shit candidate that nobody likes, but who is at least a known quantity, vs. swapping him out for an unknown quantity who might also turn out to be just as much of a shit candidate. Usually in these situations they go with the safer option, which is the known quantity.
These days though who knows, I've completely given up on trying to accurately predict what will happen in US politics.
