Basically because the teachers you have in school are more or less universally left wing thinking and some advocates of communist values. At the same time most school curricula are very against including anything right wing.

Therefore young people in particular are vulnerable to all sort of mumbo jumbo and this conditioning can take years to remove in the real world.

If you include the fact that democracy is the worst form of government ever invented and it is lower in real terms to communism for achieving real progress then you are a step closer to understanding why people think it is a good thing.

Lastly 70 years of anti-fascist, anti-right thinking in case it can be connected to Hitlers Germany and the oh so important slipper slide into mass killings. As if we are not still killing people around the world who do not think like we do.

Being a former leftard and a political science enthusiast, I sometimes go to /leftypol/ to try to learn their way: Despite lurking for one month (etiquette), I still can't extract anything from them that sounds realistic. When you ask them questions, they oftentimes just obnoxiously say "educate yourself!" or link to articles written by kikes who died decades ago.
I'm a political science major: I understand communism. How edgelords think it could work in the modern age, despite all of its historical failures, is beyond me.

My crude understanding is that we start life as lefties, that is, selfish and demanding ... ie. babies. As children we expect to indulge in every whim without consequences. At the stage of young adults we have very limited life experience and so most decisions are still selfish and indulgent. This is why colleges and universities are receptive to left ideas.

As we get older and learn that self indulgence causes suffering, (drink driving, drugs, unprotected sex, violence etc.) we become more self censoring and by extension more conservative.

Society as a whole cycles between diferent ratios of young vs mature people. This ratio is decided by when the last baby boom has occured. For example the 30s-40s baby boom means a young adult boom in the 50s-60s. And we all know what the 60s was like. By the 80s you have these boomers maturing, aound the 00's they are retiring. This process means the ratio is shifting to older conservative right wing, this is the real reason why the right is rising. The colleges/unis will remain left, but society is going towards mature and right.

This whole cycle of shifting ratios of left/right young/old takes about 100 years, which is convenient because you can simply go: 2017 - 100 = 1917 and know where in the cycle we are and what the future will be.

This particular 100 year cycle has nukes in it this time, so nations are less able to directly conflict, so the world war is being expressed at the social/civil/psyop/terrorist level instead.

Trump isn't a fluke, it's part of the swing right for about 50 years until it goes authoritarian and then destroys itself and we go left again due to a baby boom in the 2030s-2040s.

Notice the calls in /pol/ minded people for baby making, that will go more mainsteams as the decades unfold and the economies keep faultering.

Young people protest in the streets/internet, mature people don't (generally) so you can't use the sighting of these protests as a proxy for how left society is. Older right leaning will be silent generally but still vote.

If you are right leaning take heart this part of the cycle favors you.

I don't agree with that. Communists simplies human social interaction and elimates much of what provides morality and meaning in life. If each gives according to their ability to give and recieves according to their need, then no one gets what they deserve. There is no justice - is a society that completely elimates Justice in favor of material need ideal? If there is no high class, is not also high culture reduced? And without religion, humans lose a major part of their expression of the instinctive search for meaning. With complete equality, are their still any goals and ambition? Amy pride in accomplisjment? With no hierarchy, is there no respect? Is the sacred not eliminated? These are not all just necessary evils, they are parts of human social life that provide joy and meaning. Without them, and communism would have them eliminated, human life is impoverished

Something that I think the My Little Pony episode on the Marxist commune got right is that the quest for excellence and achievement with regards to a unique skill is a quest to be better than others in some regard, even if it not the same as the quest to be better overall. Capitalist work ethic isn't solely about making money from a job. It's the fact that the career in large part forms a part of social standing and accomplishment. There are reasonable critiques of this, but complete communism tries to elimates individual pride in doing work and achieving things. To be sure, communism promotes a collective pride in work - what you are doing is noble in relation to how it serves the greater whole, but is not an expression of your own personal excellence. Collective pride is just fine with some kinds of work. A soldier serves his nation, and takes a collective pride in the accomplishments of the nation, doing his part to contribute to a greater whole. But industrial, agricultural, or service work isn't about serving a larger whole. It's about doing the best job you can for yourself. And communism misses that point

Ultimately, though, the test of life is whether or not you can accept the basic nature of whatever your situation is and deal with it accordingly. Either you become someone who loves life and wants happiness badly enough to get up every day and slog through whatever shit is necessary to obtain it, or you become a whiny cuck who stands outside McDonalds protesting because they won't pay you $15 per hour to put cheeseburgers in a bag and scowl at customers.

The remainder of communists are rich celebrities and other people who have enough money that they can afford not to care what happens to any of it, and academics who get paid a comfortable living wage to stand around all day preaching nonsensical bullshit to people who have taken out massive loans just to sit and listen to it. Unfortunately these people tend have a lot of influence on miserable wage slaves whose emotions are easily exploited.

The left is just past its height and falling, the right is just rising and is immature still.

The cycle wont be exactly 100 years, but seems related to any living memory of those times being long gone and the current adults having no immediate memory from those people. So lets say 80 to 90 years old + 20 years = about 100-110 years. This allows the delusion of thinking you have just thought up a solution that has never been tried before, the internet probably changes that naivety into romanticism instead, I suspect, and so /pol/ NatSoc "Hitler did nothing wrong".

It works like this:

baby rate -> adult rate -> economic rate -> debt affordability -> societal stress levels -> conflict levels.

When the conflict levels are high; contraception, entertainment, employment, etc. is less available (Germany was the supplier of condoms in the 1920s, also rubber needed for military vehicles). Since humans world wide have sex even in high conflict/low economic situations a baby boom occurs (See Great Depression), which rescues the economy 20 years later. Cycle repeats.

I have a theory that we're unintentionally teaching our kids to be commies.

I remember growing up I'd see from time to time parents and guardians forcing kids to share their things, like Sally wants to play with John's toy car, but he won't let her, so she goes crying to her parents and they force John to give her his toy car, under the pretext that he should share. John and Sally then accept this as normal and it gets hardwired into their behavior, and once they get out into the world, communism, and "sharing with the poor people", becomes the moral choice, because they were raised to "share".

I don't know how prevalent this is in places outside of where I grew up, and I wonder if it contributes to the prevalence of socialism today

Same here. Back during the Cold War I became interested in wargaming and I remember hearing all the bullshit propaganda about the "peace-loving Soviet people" who were "just trying to defend themselves against American aggression."

Then I studied the Central Front in Europe, specifically the inter-German Border and the forces on each side.

I just about shat myself when I learned that the Russians had TWO FUCKING ARMY GROUPS in East Germany alone, plus a third in Czechoslovakia, compared to the US garrison in West Germany, which was four divisions plus a handful of independent regiments/brigades theoretically under corps or army control. I also learned that the "peace-loving" Soviet regime, which its supporters in the US claimed was in such fear of an American invasion, didn't even have any fixed fortifications or defenses in depth at the border. All the guns pointed in, to keep the locals from escaping to the West. All the mines and wire and Volkspolizei patrols were to keep people in, not to keep NATO out.

And these same fucking people have never yet admitted they were wrong, never apologized to the people enslaved and tortured by the Red puppet regimes in Eastern Europe, whose suffering they extended by collaborating with their oppressors.
