I've been thinking this same shit ever since julayworld died. Most of 8chan moved to the webring post-shutdown, and julayworld was the biggest hub of activity for a long time. It was like a firework, it exploded fast and was a lot of fun while it lasted, but it was really short and now it has dissipated into nothing. Other boards on the webring like /a/ seem to be doing fine, but I really don't know where everyone else fucked off to because there are some pretty big communities that have seemingly disappeared entirely. There's a lot of holes where at least decently active communities used to be. Imageboard users have had too many failures and shutdowns and problems in the past year and my honest bet is that a lot of us have just given up. After the julayworld fiascos I stopped using imageboards for quite a while and I think a lot of other discouraged anons have probably just done the same. I spent time playing vidya and hiding from caroney virus and not much else. I feel discouraged like it's the end of an era but at the same time compelled to post because imageboards have been my home for well over a decade by this point and it's the only thing I like doing on the internet anymore.
