Old people need help figuring out how computers work, and teaching marketable skills to your children is normal, especially since kids have to use printers for school and stuff.
As he said, his whole generation (probably gen X) had to do this.
Even I've explained how printers work to older people (coworkers/family), and although I don't have any children of my own I've helped them with technical problems when volunteering/chaperoning/babysitting children.
It's not "fair", but life isn't fair. I do my best to help my family and friends with my skills.
