I've had for years, the idea to run a campaign revolving around the Rainbow Factory AU.
Not the standard ones, but some sort of, DnD, maybe Albedo, maybe CoC attempt to sus out the nature of the problem - then find workable solutions.
I've never run an online-only campaign. I tried something in a forum, play-by-post in a system written by folks who hated their players and it sorta fizzled but I felt it had promise.
Having just been re-inspired about Albedo, which focuses on squad interdynamics more than combat (dmg tracks for each of health, emotions, and clout so you might lose control because you lost face so many times none of you squadmates believe you, or you can't requisition a shoelace anymore, for instance) I'm toying with the idea of having players control a four-pony "squad" of researchers.
Combat would probably be pathfinder-classic Ponytales mod, so players would also need to make some rogues and clerics under that sort of system.
aaaaaaannnndd then I'd need to set up ... everything. Again I have the idea for the campaign but not the details to just invite players.
But given the energy required to make the details within the system I would first want to know, would I have any players? I live in the PST timezone but work weird hours so I don't know when I'd actually be able to respond, meaning some variant of play-by-post would be preferred, but since I love (LOVE) being selective about revealing secrets it would be better if it could be done somewhere I could DM each player about what they, in particular, just saw happen (did that with language barriers in a long running 4th-ed campaign and was personally delighted though the players barely noticed)
IF I WERE GOING TO WRITE THIS AS A NOVEL instead of invite people to write it with me, it would be a horror/intrigue story. Intrigue is supposed to be a strong point of Albedo, again. Making the player respond when the know they don't know what's actually going on.
So? Would you be interested in playing DnD ponies trying to understand the problem of the weird rainbows? What would you like instead?
