>>177882Gloomy wage his tail excitedly, brandishing his crayon and play talismans.
>>177883>I wish my mom taught me such things when I was your age."Huh, and I was under the impression that Gnolls typically began battlaxe training around age four. The more you know." Posey replies, casually
>I can look after himPosey seems a bit less trusting of the griffon
"....Hmmmmm.."
>We've got a nice place and several colts just a little older than him here. This does afford me the opportunity to roleplay the 'creepy kid' among the other foals, so for the sake of convenience and fun let's go with that.
Posey realizes that we live in a society and in Equestria it is *not* customary to bring children to the battlefield, and she should avoid doing so in front of customs.
She slowly walks over to Gloomy.
"Gloomy, momma needs to go off to work now. I know I told you that I would bring you with me on my next adventure, but this is a little much for you, so say here, alright?"
Gloomy Sundae's ears droop
".. yes, momma..."
"Good colt. Be sure to practice your sigils. If anyone hurts you, just scratch your special talisman, and momma will send a monster to kill them all."
>Begin swimming to the horseshoe of Baltimare, watch the house with [insert description here], and await my orders. You're free to help yourself to fish to pass the time.Posey mentally commands her minion
>>177887Rosey Ring just smiles in response
"I think I am ready to go. Luckily I brought my equipment to that otherwise boring exorcism."
>>177886The gnoll lowers his head and looks down
"I didn't... they made me go to pony school..."
The ecru stallion ("Stallion" being generous. He's like 19) approaches gloomy
"Well hello there little bugger"
The griffin says,
"Oh don't worry. We have a television, a radio, and Silver here has brought quite a few toys for them to play with. We even have a cook."
But she does look over to Silver
>>177887"You think it will be safe without you or... the hyena around?" >>177883The zebra looks up at the deer as he's picking up his last pack. He pauses for a moment before smiling and putting it down along with his other pack. He nods as he stands back up, only carrying the armor roll.
>>177884Dust falls in line with Kira, following her lead towards customs.
>>177890She wags her little tail.
"Trust in me"
>>177889Silver smiles at the worried griffin.
"I am sure. Do not worry, we will not be gone soon." >>177889>they made me go to pony school...Posey gasps
"That's so sad." She says
"I have great respect for Gnoll culture, especially warfare and religion. I performed some services at the local temple recently. You should give it a visit some time. I have a hunch that the Temple is going to experience a bit of a.. Renaissance soon."
(I was working on a statblock for the resurrected Agire as a Gravetouched ghoul, if anyone was interested. I was aiming for Cleric lvl 3-5 with the Hunger and Demonic Domains. Not sure if standard or Cloistered Cleric.)Posey Ring says, as she begins to move towards the truck
>>177893>>177892Silver also returns to the back of the truck, presumably with Mala at his side.
>>177876"Oh,... and... ah there," he says setting a placemarker, and with a wide smile he turns and offers a hoof. "Whom do I have the pleasure of addressing?"
>>177893"Really?" He pokes his head up and looks at Posey. "I can't say that I've been to Temple since... well, since my mother died. I joined a uh... I joined a society and they had, well, it wasn't our traditional religion. Honestly I can't say I'm entirely familiar with all of the fighting styles and details of religion of Kaftaria... I've lived in this city most of my life. Maybe even all of it. It's all I know, really..."
>>177894Yes. Mala comes back with him. Mala has the pistol and both swords.
>>177895"Neela Pheeta" She offers a split hoof to Defiant Dust.
>>177895>>177897Hey wait a minute. You're not Defiant Dust.
>>177895"Jolly Swagman" He answers
>>177896"In Farbook, we believe it's important to keep in touch with our cultural roots: it how we survive, in spite of our unfortunate geographic proximity. Religion is important, especially in the face of dread." Posey says, nonchalantly
"The Gnoll fighting style consists mostly of battle-axes, spears and flails, so you didn't miss very much on weapons training. I consider them geniuses when it comes to guerilla warfare and tracking though; they're somehow always able to maximize enemy casualties despite being outnumbered." She continues
"Of course, more extreme Gnolls might not be so welcoming to an infidel of their kind, but if you ever find yourself in trouble in that neighborhood, tell them 'Rosey Ring sent me to seek the Angel's guidance', and they'll come around and welcome you in."
>>177900"I don't believe so" He answers
>>177762"Oh yes. There are two cafes just across the street" She answers
>>177901>>177896"Heh, you have gotten around this city almost as much as I have. Necrologist, Warmagus, friend to local gnoll temple..."
>>177901He looks down
"When I was brought here, my father, my mother and I were the only gnolls around. They had to send me to pony school. It... it's didn't work out well for me. There were more gnolls but I can't really say I understood the culture. Where I ended up, it was mostly griffins who taught me. Griffins and zebras. I lived with some crocutta. I knew a few Kaftar, yes. Even religious Kaftar but... It didn't really seem like I was a part of that. When I learned to fight, it was on the streets. I learned how to use a gun, and how to use a sword. How to use a machete like a sword. This Silver Sword here, he took me in. He showed me respect. He seems to think that I should be... well, more like a pony. To fit in with and live with the ponies."
>>177903"It's all part of my profession." Rosey Ring replies, flatly
>>177904Posey shrugs
"Do as you will. I'll admit that I had some ulterior motives: I wanted to help Agire out with his new flock. He's going through some... difficult changes, and the responsibility of being next in line to lead the temple could be burdensome. A new Gnoll visitor to his temple could be just the encouragement he needs to jumpstart his ambitions." She says, nonchalantly
He begins delicately putting away his tea set (but not his cup)
>>177890>>177884The two slither up along the sidewalk into town. Just ignore the screaming ponies that run away... Or the cars that honk their horns. They are just haters.
The two creatures slither up to a big, brick building with rectangular windows. Across the street from the entrance, leaning against a lamp post, is a minotaur cow with a red mane, brown coat, and wearing a black, leather jacket and dark jeans. She smokes a cigarette, wears sunglasses, and has a slightly irritated, but mostly neutral expression. She gives a singular wave of the hoof to each respective creature, first to Kira, and then
And to the right, is the entrance to the Revenue and Migration Services office of Baltimare
>>177906"Retainer?" He raises an eyebrow
>>177905His ear twitches
"Agirê Bêdawî, the priest? He is dead."
>>177908Kira gasps upon seeing the creature, holding her hooves up to hold the sides of her head, as her eyes become quite large. She exclaims in excitement, "A minotaur!" before slithering up to the poor creature just trying to enjoy her smoke break. "Wow! I've never seen one of you in person! You're just simply amazing!"
>>177908The bat smiles sympathetically, and then all pretense of politeness washes from his face, his voice low and getting increasingly gravelly.
"I can tell you're not aware of the situation, so let me tell what two possible outcomes there are to the situation at hand.
By now Miss Skies has found a cadre of armed ponies who are making their way here with haste. Thankfully, she will have the good sende to stay behind.
Now, when those ponies arrive the question is, will I have killed you as a proxy for whoever has had the poor judgement to have wasted my time." its not a question. Sips tea.
>>177908>>177905Silver turns his head to the pair talking when he hears Agire's name.
"Agire? As in
that Agire? How?"
>>177908Rosey Ring speaks in a hushed tone, leaning in
"There was a miracle, by the Angel's grace." She whispers
"But keep it to yourself, unless you wish to get involved. It's a kaftar secret." She continues, before turning away
"It is a shame that Agire is dead though." She speaks, loudly enough for anyone else to hear this time
Bluff for deception + innuendo
[1d20+14 = (18+14) = 32]How long does it take for the truck to arrive
(I can roll intimidation)
>>177911Wait, was silver listening too? Fuck. I completely misunderstood the layout of the truck.
>>177914>>177915Silver, not hearing Rosey whisper to Mala and only hearing her louder statement, still finds it weird to have heard Agire's name, but is convinced enough to let it go.
>>177915Haha. I have avoided the consequences of my own idiocy.
Before the pony can respond he artificially laughs uproariously
>>177910He sighs. It’s a deep tired sigh. He raises both hooves above his face and brings them together as if in a prayer
“I’m guessing you’re new here. I’m going to give you a chance to say exactly the same thing - literally exactly the same thing - minus the part where you threaten a federal officer with death, and no less, do it in a location with multiple active guards with submachine guns, no less. Next time, you will not receive the same leniency. I genuinely don’t give a shit who you think you are. If you make yourself a threat for… well, for literally no reason, then you will be addressed as a threat.”
>>177918>>177919"Cute. But I know what you are talking about now.
Walk this way."
>>177921D'awwww
>>177912The gnoll looks confused.
"What did you do for the temple. You seem familiar with them."
>>177923Brie makes an exaggerated gesture, as if to nonverbally convey that he doesn't know why he asked, then, but whatever, before gesturing for the pony to proceed, intent on following.
>>177923"Sorry. I don't disclose my services to other clients. You could ask them yourself if you visit though."
>>177923So do we arrive at the HQ without issues?
>>177909>>177908Well, I suppose if the minotaur has no notable reactions, then Kira enters Customs with Dust.
>>177929Kira enters in, yes.
There's a little blue pegasus pony at the desk
>>177927It looks like it, yes.
>>177924Brie follows him into the bag
>>177926Hmmm... Maybe should have been swag
mare>>177925"Okay..." The gnoll lowers his head
>>177930(Scraping sound) Mare (bble scrib)
>>177930Kira waves at the blue pegasus pony, and comes up to the desk to introduce herself. "Hello!"
>>177930>It looks like it, yes.Rosey Ring exits the vehicle and begins towards the building.
>>177932From somewhere beyond the blue pegasus Kira hears someone say
"Oh there, see? More operators; are you going to waste their time to or is this gratis for me?"
>>177933Silver joins the snow white mare, as well as Mala, presumably.
>>177932"Ah!" The mare ducks
A minute later, a couple ponies come out. One is familiar. A copper colored earth pony stallion, wearing a cattlemare's hat and carrying a bayonetted rifle, walks over. He places the rifle on a sling and walks directly up to Kira. And then he places a hoof under her chin, and starts to give her scritches
"Why hello again."
>>177934breathes in"no u"
>>177933>>177915The truck parks. Parade Pass is the first to get out, followed by Mala, Posey, and Silver. Next to them is a brick building with a pair of guards at the entrance. Across the street, leaning against a street lamp, and smoking a cigarette, is a brown minotaur cow with a neutral expression, sunglasses, a black leather jacket and dark jeans. She watches them as they enter, and gives a nod to Silver and then to Posey.
>>177936kek, this is all posture, no offense intended
>>177936Kira smiles, and closes her eyes upon receiving the chin scratches. She's very happy to see a familiar face.
"Hello again, Rover! I took your guys' advice and came here to Customs to look for work."
>>177936Silver nods to the minotaur as they pass. As he enters the building, Silver stops and pauses at the sight of a large pony-snake hybrid creature thing wearing armor and carrying a bow and spear getting chin scritches from a pony. That is...definitely not what Silver expected to see today.
>>177760Amber sees writing and symbology that she recognizes.
Of the portion that is both chiselled into the stone
and weathered, Amber can see the words "Seiedi of the Bear of the Costal Forest." And "Here the Spirits gather and Converse with the Bear." She also sees a symbol that she recognizes as the great World Tree growing up from the ground until it touches the North Star in the tail of the Little Bear. What is scribbled with tar is an inelegant mirror of the world tree below the ground. Also added is what kind of looks like a sun rising over a horizon, but it has an eye. In a few instances harshly etched into the stone with what was likely an icepick, and far more often drawn with charcoal or tar, are a few phrases that Amber can recognize.
"The Spirits Meet"
"My Dear Kesätuuli. Only two years, but now we will have you forever!"
"The Seraph brings with him the whole of Heaven"
"The Sun will melt all and bring plenty"
"Kulkunen, you shall dance with me again"
But these messily scratched phrases are the exception. Most of what is written is not readible. Some of these words, though not recognizable to Amber, are written in letters and characters that Amber can at least recognize as letters and characters. Maybe they are in some foreign or forgotten language. Some are symbols or runes that Amber could imagine belong to some deep tradition known to some but not to her.
But much of what is scribbled onto the rock... is pure gibberish. Purely unintelligible. Something that could not be produced by
any sane adult mind known to Amber
Father and the Stallion walk up, and take position nearish Amber, using the rock as cover as they watch the gathering.
>>177938scritch scritch scricth"Such a beautiful creature. What work are you looking for?" He asks
>>177939Mala walks around and away from the large snake thing
>>177936>nodPosey counts this as permission to enter, and confidently strides in.
Dust stands off to the side, watching and waiting.
>>177940Kira is scritch scritch scritchedKira blushes, and smiles even wider. It's not very often she's called beautiful. She's not even sure if she's ever been called beautiful before. "D'awwwww. You really think so? Anyways, I'm up for anything, and I know I can do anything you have need of! I'm an excellent scout, I'm super sneaky, I'm great with a bow. I just need to do something to get the attention of the governor, and show him that lamias are worth consideration!"
It's at this point that Silver makes his presence known to the two by clearing his throat. Kira turns towards the source of the sound.
Silver: "Excuse me, we are ponies that were asked for for some special mission from Navy. Is this correct place?"
>>177938A white unicorn approaches the snake, with a wide eyed look.
"Are you a naga?" she implores
>>177944Kira looks down at the snow white mare in her chain outfit, and smiles at her.
Kira: "Oh, hello! You're not afraid of me either! My people call ourselves 'lamias'. I don't know if there's an actual difference between lamias and nagas or if they're the same thing. I'm Kubana Kirafiki, but you can call me Kira!"
>>177945>I don't know if there's an actual difference between lamias and nagas"Is there, now...?" she says, looking the snake up and down, seemingly counting the number of vertebrae in her tail
"I go by Rosey Ring, a Warmagus, and I am here for the mercenary job."
From further back a voice says "See?"
>>177940Posey enters the building and approaches anything that looks like a front desk, eager to negotiate payment.
>>177946Kira: "You and this other pony are here for a job? Can I join you? Please?"
Silver: "Hmm...she does have some valuable skills, and we could always use extra help." Silver trots up to the lamia, and offers her a hoof to shake. "I am Silver Sword. It is nice to meet you, Kira."
Kira smiles and shakes Silver's hoof quite excited, actually shaking the pony slightly from the vigor she exudes. Kira is very excited to have met so many creatures in one day that aren't afraid of her, and Silver is just entertained by the novelty of meeting such an exotic creature.
Kira: "It's great to meet you both!"
It's hard to tell exactly how many vertebrae she has in her tail, as a large bulge easily the size of a large adult stallion in her tail breaks up the normal silhouette of Kira's lamia form. Is there something inside of her?
>>177947“Shush”
>>177948>>177945>>177942The copper watt pong stallion, wearing a cattle mare’s hat, a green jacket, and with bayoneted rifle slung over his back says,
“Well I’m not sure about the mares here, but the stallions, if you are looking for that mercenary job with the Navy,
go on back>>177949Free Rover approaches Kira again
“Ah, Kira, you’re much too soft for the Navy job.” He looks down
“Oh good, you ate the deer.”
>>177950Silver: "Deer?"
Kira: "What? Oh, no, she's back at home. I bought a goat from a farm outside of town yesterday. Please, just give me a chance! I need this, my tribe needs this. I can't fail them!"
>>177950>>177951To further aid her attempts to convince Free Rover to give her a chance, Kira looks at him with the biggest, cutest eyes she can manage.
Silver: "Ah, give her chance. We really could use scout, no matter what this job is."
>>177950>>177952Dust looks at the stallion, then at Copper, then at Kira, and back and forth a few times
"If she does not go, then neither do I
I see no reason for you to deny"
>>177950>Well I’m not sure about the mares here, but the stallions, if you are looking for that mercenary job with the Navy, go on backHow have these ponies lived in a society where most of the most notable and powerful figures in history are mares, and still think only stallions would be mercenaries?
Rosey Ring just walks past him.
>>177951>tribe"You have a whole tribe? Splendid..." The unicorn says, not elaborating as she walks towards the back.
>>177951The stallion
"Oh yeah, there was this little bugger who was picked up in a raid mopping up cultists and traffickers from that big bust last week, and she had a false name and everything. We caught her, but this snake here took pitty on her for some reason, so she volunteered to take her in
Looking back to Kira
"Damn it." He sighs, and then leans over, as if he has to lean down to talk to Kira at eye level, which he does not need to do.
"Kira. This could be real combat. Where you could die. or you could kill. Do you really want that?"
>>177955>>177954Because he knows Kira is soft from personal matters and Rosey has taken the time to look pretty, which doesn't look very warrior like to him
>>177956Posey keeps walking until she finds the pony she believes to be holding the bits for the job.
>>177956Silver: "Is that from Hoebuck? I was part of that group that cleared them out. Could be that deer was just caught up in it all, maybe. We did not find any among cultists we faced."
Kira: "I...I know the risks. I have to take it, though. My people depend on me. I can
not fail them."
>>177958He gasps
"You were?! Oh. Uh. Yeah. Well, in directly. Of course they weren't there the night it happened, but uh... Well you see the Deer told us a different name than was on her visa, which she had overstayed by several years. And she was with known criminals. I think she was lying."
He takes a hoof and holds her mane
"You are very kind." He says. "But... Well I don't know exactly what's coming. But I know it isn't made for the kind. I could have been in Wingbardy, but instead I'm right here. You can see that. Maybe you should be too."
>>177960"Where do I find the client for this operation? I would like to negotiate prices sooner than later." Rosey Rong say, polishing her new polearm, strangely undisturbed by the electric shocks
>>177960Silver looks at the stallion with suspicion at the sudden changes to his story. "Mmhmm."
Kira: "Pleeeeeeaaaaaaasssseee?"
>>177902Cavaliere goes to have a decent meal, with whatever cuisine that griffons can stomach. Afterwards, he visits several nearby bars, though he drinks very moderately (let me know what an appropriate cost would be). While out, he solicits information concerning Folded Holly and his family.
Gather Information:
[1d20-1 = (9-1) = 8]Finally, he returns to his hotel room and rests until morning.
>>177962To Silver
"Yes. Don't trust the deer."
He pets her
"But you're so adorable. Are you sure you have what it takes?"
He ignores the bitchy one.
>>177963He gathers a bit more than none. But less than desired.
The bed is actually pretty comfortable. He awakens the next day not knowing what it will bring. But he knows how he must ready himself for it.
>>177964Kira: "I have to, I will...I do!" Kira smiles warmly at Free Rover.
>>177965He sighs, and then scritches her chin again
"Good luck. Would you like me to direct you to him?"
>>177964Cavaliere wears a red silk robe and goes down to the lobby for breakfast. He takes a few cigars along.
>>177967Dust nods and prepares the follow the lamia to the back
>>177968Toast, pancakes and eggs available upon request, as well as a decent variety of fruits and cheeses. He gets a copy of the Baltimare Sun to read, where the big stories concern a potential merger of the Tail Sails Shipping Company with a foreign company - though even the paper has to admit this is unlikely to be accepted by the government - and an attempted suicide in jail by a prominent politician recently arrested on... charges greater in scandal than even the average back in Weter. There's an editorial about how the griffins aren't integrating into society well, and another praising the stern stance taken by the Governor of Manehattan against organized crime, and wishing they'd do it here.
But we need to quickly get Garv to Customs >>177967Kira excitedly reaches forward, and hugs Free Rover with her hooves. "Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!" She lets go of him, and nods to his question. "Yes please, if you don't mind."
Silver: "Alright, looks like we have scout. Lead on, then."
>>177971>>177969Free Rover walks Kira, Defiant Dust, and presumably Silver down a hall, up a set of stairs, and into a kind of conference room with a big chalk board.
Inside the room, a dark blue pegasus stallion with a lighter blue mane, wearing a blue uniform stands.
Also, there is a bat pony.
>>177921Cool!
>>177970He enjoys some eggs, fresh fruit and cheese in a meal that most Equestrians would envy. He afterwards enjoys a cup of cappuccino and a cigar while reading the news, and mulls over how these events might lead to fresh work.
While relaxing, he keeps an eye out for anything interesting in the hotel. Perhaps somepony might want to have a word with him….
>>177972Silver also has Mala join the group. Kira looks quite interested in the hyena/gnoll, but keeps it in for now until they're finished with this introduction.
So, when everypony DOES come upon, they will come upon a sleek black leather threnchcoat wearing bat, who I'll describe in detail if desired. His ees woulddance from pony to pony - resting with recognition on Silver - before returning to (fug, gotta go last 100, one sec,... the guy)
>>177977Silver tilts his head upon seeing the bat, slowly also coming to recognize who it is. "...Brie?"
>>177975Posey's a strong independent mare who don't need no stallion and who don't need no adventuring party. She walked right past him and kept walking. She probably eventually found a supply closet. Maybe a bathroom. Maybe even a back door to lead herself out of the building.
>>177976Mala stays on the other side of Silver away from Kira. If Kira looks, she'll see a strange looking dog-like creature that sometimes looks over to her. Perhaps Kira recognizes him as being a Kaftar gnoll
>>177977>who I'll describe in detail if desiredDo it.
>>177973From the door, a stallion in a military uniform walks in. The hotel staff are clearly confused and uncomfortable, but they don't intervene
"Cavalliere? There are... whispers. I don't know if it will come to anything, but if you wouldn't mind being on standby..."
>>177979Getting no indications from Swagmare, Brie disengages for a moment and puts on his happy face.
"It seems so, despite my best efforts. Its been some time Silver, how have you been? I think it was the train heist we last saw eachother."
I didnt mean this instant, Ill wait till he takes his coat off
>>177980Oh, I thought he was just a guard.
Posey follows the rest of the group
>>177981Silver: "Hmm, I did not hear of train heist. No, I think last we saw each other was when we raided Comte's home, and rescued those colts and those drones. I have been fine. How about yourself? You managed to survive being in Changeling territory?"
>>177980Kira takes a keep interest the the gnoll. She waves at him and gives him a friendly smile, which seems to be her trademark. "Hello! I'd heard there were gnolls in Equestria! Who are you?"
>>177980Cavaliere raises an eyebrow as continues reading his newspaper.
"Standby? As much as I am enjoying these fine surroundings, I'd rather you let me know precisely what you mean to have me do." He returns a cigar back to his beak.
Okay, so everycreature except Garv is in the room
>>177986"Get
everything you need for fighting, pack an overnight bag, and come to the headquarters of Revenue and Migration Services. It's four blocks to the east and three to the north from here." He answers
>>177985He leans back, looks down, then back up
"Hi, I'm uh, Mala Mata..."
>>177988"Let them know they can expect me in half an hour from now." Despite saying this, he does not budge until the stallion leaves.
>>177987Silver: "That is very good to know. I had been wondering about Kerr and Wesley. I actually miss them bit."
>>177988Kira: "I'm Kubana Kirafiki, but you can call me Kira. It's great to meet you, Mala! Are you Silver's friend? I've noticed you like following him especially."
>>177989The stallion nods to him, and then leaves
Garv does have time to finish reading the paper, finish eating and leave.
But he
does need to get to customs
>>177990"Yes, he is a fighter who uh, well he took me in. He says I can fight alongside him." He answers
>>177988>Okay, so everycreature except Garv is in the room"To begin." Rossy Ring begins, announcing her presence
"I would like to discuss the terms of the job, as well as compensation."
>>177990He tilts his head slightly
"I'm a bit surprised Silver, most ponies are shall we say, less than compassionate with changelings."
He looks around briefly to see if he is gonna have to kill anypony for hearing what he's saying, before shrugging.
>>177991Kira: "He seems like a nice pony." Kira tilts her head at Mala. "You know, you don't have to be afraid of me. I don't know if you know anything about lamias, but I'm actually genuinely quite friendly."
>>177993Silver: "I suppose I am different from most ponies. It is even more odd since it is war veteran saying this."
It should be noted, there's something different about Silver from what Brie sees of him. Does he look a bit...younger?
>>177994Does he? I think I skimmed somethig about antiaging, but didnt follow up cuz I was lookin for somethig else
>>177991He returns to his room and changes into his outfit from last night. Out of his larger suitcase he retrieves a backpack and bedroll, and into the former he also packs a knife, canteen, hip flask, map case, flint and steel, grappling hook, a pair of handcuffs, a small steel mirror, trail rations, and rope. Most importantly, he puts his gunbelt and revolver into the backpack as well.
Cavaliere returns downstairs and hails a cab to the headquarters of revenue and migration services.
>>177994"You look simply marvelous! Are you using some sort of pelt smoothing cream?"
>>177992Brie isnt ignoring her, hes just not sure yet (and Im not sure what she looks like)
>>177995>>177997Silver: "Sort of. I found and ate mystical fruit with age-regressing properties. I have not felt this good in many years."
>>177992Posey catches the attention of a blue pegasus stallion. He walks up to Posey, and without introducing himself says
"I'll give more detail once the officers have left the room and everypony... everyone is listening, but the essence is this:
One of our scout blimps is down in disputed territory. I will not allow my airstallions nor our equipment to fall into the hooves of a hostile nation, I can't send our marines, and I don't trust anypony locally to do it quietly. There are ten of our ponies who are likely still alive and in need of rescue, and two systems that need torching. A thousand bits for each airpony, and three thousand for each torched system. How you all share that is not up to me. The terms are that what belongs to the Navy belongs to the Navy with a finders fee of course, you bring our colts back alive, and that the Navy was never there. That's the essence of it."
>>177993Yes. Not everypony is nice to changelings
>>177996The cab takes him up to the entrance. As he passes, he sees a brown, female minotaur leaning against a street lamp. She is wearing sunglasses, and is in the process of pulling a cigarette out. She looks over to Garv, and he gets a glimpse of her eyes peaking out from under the sunglasses. She nods to him
Going inside, a nice blue pegasus pony calls out another pony, who takes him up to the room upstairs.
poofGarv is now in the room with everycreature else. Logically he would have been the first or maybe second to arrive.
>>177998>Brie isnt ignoring herShe wasn't talking to him.
>not sure what she looks like>Rosey Ring appears as a youthful mare with soft and elegant features. Her coat is snow white, and exceptionally fluffy. Her mane is red-pink, and is fine and silky, almost glowing. Her body is slender and dainty, with generous feminine endowments. She has a calm and professional demeanor. Her face is as stern and stoic as it is beautiful.>Her eyes are like pools of gold, with radial concentric rings. They glow with authority and give a mesmerizing aura that demands submission. Staring into them too long gives feelings of uncanny unease and dread.Right now, she is dressed for war, having donned a chain shirt barding with spiked bracers. She looks like something from another era, equipped with a sword, a longbow, and a polearm crackling with electricity. Her mane is done up in a war bun.
>>178000Kira raises a hoof in the air, and asks a question. "What's the hostile nation?"
>>178003Hes affable, he wouldnt ordinarily permit a person to go so unaddressed
>>178004He looks over to her and answers
"Stalliongrad."
>>178000A discreet but effective watch, it seems.
Cavaliere introduces himself first to the officer in the room, and then to the various other invitees. He is a wiry griffon with dusty gray feathers and a black crest, as well as a thin black mustache over his weathered beak. His clothes, all black, look well-made but designed for frontier work outside of urban centers.
"Name is Cavaliere. I came in yesterday for work, but the urgency I was given makes me believe that this is a separate mission." >>178007Silver: "Ох, боже..."
Kira: "Mmhmm, mmhmm, okay. And...who are they?"
>>178000Rosey Ring's expression changes slightly as she realizes that this adventure requires travel.
"How many days would you expect this operation to take?"
Oh, and just because I can, she attempts to charm the stallion as soon as he makes eye contact.
DC 19 Will
>>178008The stallion nods
"I don't know what you were told yesterday, but I assure you, it is. The blimp crashed this morning."
>>178009"Do you know what a communist is?" He asks Kira
To Silver:
"Are you an Emigre?"
>>178010He smiles
"There will be a more detailed briefing in a few minutes. But the short answer is: we have equipment on our aircraft that is, or at least, may be, more technologically advanced than what is possessed by the forces of International Communism. We cannot allow them to get their hooves on that technology. And to that end, we will pay to have it destroyed."
>>178011"There's a mail plane waiting to take you all to Manehattan, then to Trottigham, where a seaplane will take you to the island where the airship has crashed at. It better be done quick. I expect you'll be home by tomorrow. At least, I hope you'll be home by tomorrow. We'll provide accommodations in Trottingham if necessary."
>>178012Kira shakes her head.
Silver: "They believe that all ownership should be held by collectives rather than by individuals. That is basic gist of it, now is not really time to get into political discussions." Addressing the Navy stallion, Silver answer, "I was born in St. Petershoof, back when it was part of Equestria. I am just as much Equestrian citizen as next one, and it still hurts me seeing what communists have done to my birthplace."
So, we've got a reward of up to 10k, split between all of us. There are 6 members in this party. That would only be 1,666 for each party member. Hmmmm.
>>178012Does he seem affected by the charm? Because if he is I would like to make some opposed Charisma checks to haggle.
"I specialize in cadaver recovery, but there is no guarantee that they will be alive when we get there, let alone all of them. It would be proper to afford a partial reward for deceased airmen, or to raise the reward for each of them to account for those factors. What about... twelve hundred bits per alive airman, and five hundred for the bodies of the deceased?" She pushes

all I am concerned about. If there is no healer among you, I can find one."
>>178014"

Once I can conclude Amber's dream sequence>>178015"Pray you never have to. They are an insidious cancer that destroys nations, culture, traditions, and faith wherever they go with violence, and they are intent on metastasizing everywhere."
>>178016And Silver's cohort gets a half share"Very well. twelve hundred alive, five hundred dead if you can recover the body. Plus the fee for torching, plus a percentage of the value of whatever equipment you can recover, and anything that doesn't belong to the Navy or its Airmen that you can find, you can keep."
>>178022Silver: "I am no doctor, but I do have some some experience with treating battlefield wounds in field. Some medical supplies for this expedition would be appreciated: bandages, plasma, maybe even healing potions if they can be spared."
>>177940This is truly mysterious writing, but even Amber's untrained eye can determine that it's of different ages and probably different authors. Three guesses as to who the last author is….
She whispers to her father,
"Papa, what are they doing? Or, what aren't they doing? They're just standing there." I'm going to have to sleep soon.
>cohortOh, so that's what he is. I should have guessed he's be high enough level to have a cohort. I would like to get there myself soon, perhaps even after this mission if it's intense enough.
>"Very well. twelve hundred alive, five hundred dead if you can recover the body. Plus the fee for torching, plus a percentage of the value of whatever equipment you can recover, and anything that doesn't belong to the Navy or its Airmen that you can find, you can keep."Rosey Ring seems satisfied.
>>178025"Explosive charges would increase the chance of success as well. They're difficult to buy on the fly around here."
>>178022>>178025The griffon addresses the unicorn, who looks to be about the same age.
"While that's helpful, we don't know in what state the survivors are. Considering the expense for this operation, and its urgency, we should have along nothing short of an expert physician." >>178027"KS-19" He answers
>>178026"Shhh" he places a hoof over towards Amber, but does not turn to her, and does not manage to actually touch her with it, if that was his intent
"They are, they are, they are... Talking?"
>>178028"We can make it even better. Four thousand for each torched system, and we'll pay the torch value even if it is recovered in full."
>>178025He nods
"Is it enough?"
>>178032Lol, try and interpret what that face meant
>>178031Amber listens carefully to try to make out what the odd ponies are saying.

The zeeb is simply sitting in the corner, looking off in to space. To the others he may look spaced out and not paying attention, but anyone within very close proximity can hear him very softly reciting words to himself.
>>178031Silver: "You never know if it is enough until it is time. This fine griffon believes we need proper surgeon. At very least, having medical supplies would greatly increase success chance of this mission. Surgical kits would also be appreciated, bullets are not easy to remove with normal first aid."
Kira raises her hoof again.
Kira: "What's the terrain of the location like?"
>>178038A mention of healing seems to break Dust out of his trance as he turns towards the grey stallion
"If care and healing is your need
Then to this call I shall take heed

Of health I can make you the exemplar."
>>178034"Wawanohabanou and the great bear and the little bear."
"Nahou aruno nihip"
(mumbling)
"The spirits are here already. The dawn is upon us. The seraph will lead a flight of spirits and bring the sun."
"I see the spirits. He creates as well as frees them. They surround us. He will rise with the dawn. The convergence is here already. The seraph need only awake. I can hear him in his dreams and he can hear us. He can see us and touch us. He shall awaken soon."
"Nyah halip I can see them. I can hear them."
>>178036I wonder if he knows a healer...
>>178038"Medical supplies will be provided. The island has grassy hills. It is certain to be cold, though maybe above freezing during daylight. The shores can have rocky cliffs."
>>178040Amber's fears of having found the wrong cultists have been assuaged. Though, she is still very anxious from all of this and doesn't know what to do.
>>178042"To where shall we go? To the little bear?"
"To here. The spirits come from the underworld. The Stallo shall cleanse the unbelieving. But do not worry for the seraph only means to create."
Of in the distance, the blackness of night itself seems to move where the night meets the horizon.
>>178043"Perhaps"
>>178040Cavaliere looks with interest at the zebra.
"Do you have experience treating equines with different injuries, including those inflicted by falling or crushing? You might have to take care of multiple ponies with those injuries or more, outdoors and with the need to transport them quickly. They will be depending on you with their lives," he asks softly.
>>178042>>178044The stallion whispers to Father:
"Do you see them eating any kind of mushroom or mold? Does anything look like that?"
Father:
"Maybe we should just admit to the Inspector that we can't handle this."
Stallion:
"He won't be mad that we failed. He'll be mad that we never tried. So we better try, or we are dead ponies. I think I see Vaeltaja."
>>178044Amber's skin crawls with mention of the Stallo.
"What are the Stallo? They are talking about them." she whispers to her father.
"The quartermaster,"
Brie finishes
>>178045"I have worked with ailments both magic and mundane,
And have yet to have a patient say I did not alleviate the pain.
Working outdoors is fine, and I am used to no tools
As long as you all do not go acting like fools"
Despite how his words may seem, the zebra stallion seems extremely serious in this. Almost as if he's dealt with worse before.
>>178047Father moves back and pets the little pony. He smiles as he does so.
"The Stallo are a creature of myth that walk in the woods and eat ponies. To be honest with you, little Kultainen, they are a story told to scare little fillies like you. I wish parents would instead tell their colts and fillies stories of poverty, disease, famine, or of oppression to scare them. I think the fear would be more productive. You have plenty to fear, little pony, like there being no heat tonight. But giant pony eating monsters in the woods is not one of those things.">>178048concern >>178051Who is expressing concern, sense motive if discernable

>>178051This is a quote from earlier, right? If not, Amber would be seriously concerned at how her father would be casually dismissing her fears at length just in front of a doomsday cult.
She scoots over to the other stallion.
"There are a lot of them, and they don't look frostbitten or confused like Makea or Kuhlo. Please don't get yourselves hurt," she quietly pleads. She doesn't look at him though, instead at the edge of the sky to see if her eyes are deceiving her.
>>178053No, father really did go on a tangent about childrearing as he watches these ponies off in the distance.
Amber definitely thinks she sees shadows, or something in the shadows, on the treeless horizon. But they don't move. Or rather, they don't move
much, and it's impossible to be sure if she isn't seeing the trunks of trees, or piles of snow, or hilltops. But the milky blackness is unsettling any time she moves her eyes away from it, as it seems to flow almost like a liquid, or lumber like a large animal in the night.
Father continues petting her. His breathing is heavy, and his eyes dart. And... is he beginning to speak to himself?
The other stallion says,
"Oh, I'm not. It's they who need to be worried. The Central Council will get them if the bears and the cold don't get them first. But Vaeltaja... I will get him first. Before the Central Council gets me."Amber can't be so sure that the ponies are
not frostbitten. Several of them are completely covered, but a couple are not.

>>178057"If you don't think I am" He points a hoof "The door is right behind you."
>>178058The stallion answers:

>>178060Amber merely answers,
"Wait." as she creeps back to where she knows Jakala to be, unwilling to leave her little friend there.
>>178061Amber may want to be cautious, so that she may not be seen or heard. Then again, these ponies might not even notice her if she stood right in front of their open eyes.
Jakala is still sitting there on the sled, staring at the sky. Silently.
>>178063Probably the loudest sound from Amber is her little heart beating. How in the world did Vaeltaja get all these ponies out here? She looks up to what Jakala is staring at.
>>178041Kira, quiet from going through scenarios in her mind, speaks up again with a fairly long and large list of questions: how well explored is the island, are there any inhabitants, how big is the island, are there any maps of the island, are there any dangerous animals or poisonous plants on the island, how
much plant life is on the island, is it densely wooded or rather barren, how well populated is the island with animal life, are the missing soldiers likely to have set up traps. The Navy pony may feel a bit overwhelmed with just how much the lamia is asking to know.
>>178062>>178065Brie relaxes his attitude a bit, allowing others to speak freely without his incessant quips,... for now. This petulent officer may need to be disciplined. Perhaps his superiors set him on this task with precisely the goal of Brie disposing of him, but best not to set himself up as the prime suspect TOO soon. Plenty of time for that later.
NOW what he wants to know is,....
>>178067Also, to anyone with a decent enough perception, he has a small pot with a cup of tea that he's also grateful for
>>178048Okay, here's a response you might like better,
"I don't trust you with a hoof grenade, and you don't need a hoof grenade to destroy a 'toaster oven', or a 'popcorn broiler'. Yes. I need somepony I trust to do the job. Somepony I can actually trust to torch the systems and bring my stallions back alive. What you have completely and utterly failed to impress upon me is why I need
you. Because right now, I can't find a satisfactory reason."
>>178062"The last fellow isn't from the Navy. He isn't offering to pay you what comes out to 3000 bits each plus the opportunity for loot, and I assume, to sate your blood lust. I am. But if you would rather he be your personalized tard wrangler than I, please, by all means, go join him downstairs. I think it would improve the quality of the group if you did."
>>178069Silver: "No, hoof grenades would not work, unless they were high explosive instead of fragmentation but even then there are better options. If torching important systems is part of goal, we do need something to achieve this goal. Solution could be as simple as homemade fire bombs, for those all we would need is some bottles of booze or gasoline with rags tied to their necks. Otherwise we could make use of some Infantry Demolition Kits. They were issued to infantry units during War to destroy walls or to damage tanks when friendly armor and AT was not available. Good middle ground between those would be some dynamite."

Out of Character: I will be away at Ponyville Ciderfest this weekend
>>178065>>178045>>178029>>178036>>178067The dark blue pegasus pony in uniform introduces himself
"My name is Shoal Water, Captain of the New Mareland Replican Navy and in charge of ground-based naval aviation in the Rocky Seas and Griffish Isles region. I am in Baltimare now for reasons I will explain later. I've gathered you all here for an important mission. I will begin the detailed briefing on that mission in a few minutes after I've received a call, and after I've, well, gotten a map out, but right now, I think it is best for us to introduce ourselves. I know of a couple of you by reputation, but I don't know any of you personally, and I'm not sure how well you know each other. So if you could, explain who you are and what you could contribute. And if each of you could provide your IDs, we'd like to hold on to them as a security measure for the time of the mission. The bat pony can go last, because I'd like to see if he's capable of not making an ass of himself for a couple minutes, and because quite frankly he seems like he may be best suited for... well I'm not sure what he's good for, but something else."
>>178070He nods
"Yes, we intend to give you explosives to help in the torching, as well as a camera to verify that you have in fact, torched the system. Infantry Demolition kits are a good idea, I can ask the Army if they will lend a trio."
>>178065"These are all very good questions, but you'll get a fuller answer when I explain the location where this will all take place"
I fell asleep. What did I miss?
>>178072The zebra in the corner clears his throat
"My name is Defiant Dust
I come as a tribal shaman
Hopefully my story you trust
And understand my situation.
I come to Equestria for rumors of increased undead
Which have brought my people great dread
I was sent to investigate these tales
And let the fates determine my trails."
With these last words, he noses through his pack until he pulls out a folded peice of paper. He carries it over, and deposits it on fhe stallions desk. The stallion will find it is a Visa from Zebrica to Equestria.
>>178072The floofy light grey unicorn stallion known as Silver steps up, wearing a flak jacket and (if weapons were allowed inside this room) wearing a sheathed greatsword at his side.
Silver: "I am Silver Sword. I was born in St. Petershoof back when it was part of Equestria, and as such am still natural born Equestrian citizen. My father was Royal Guard quartermaster and taught me how to wield swords from young age. I am also well versed in marksponyship with rifles. I served in Equestrian Army during Great War as Sergeant, originally training other stallions into soldiers before being sent off to Western Front as part of 'E Platoon', before New Mareland landed on East Coast. We were meant to reinforce various divisions on front line against Changelings when we stopped in Vale and discovered that local garrison had been replaced by platoon of Changeling Infiltrators. Over course of half day we managed to wipe out Infiltrators, saving both inhabitants of Vale as well as garrison ponies who had been captured and replaced. It would later be known as First Battle of Vale. Most recently I was part of group that raided Hoebuck, and I successfully helped lead us towards clearing out not only local traffickers led by griffon Stormfeather Maakie but also Maarist Cult led by pony Sweet Boek."
Silver then hands Shoal his ID, verifying that he is indeed an Equestrian citizen. The golden-yellow lamia, wearing studded leather armor and carrying a bow, arrows, and spear (again, if weapons were allowed inside), looks impressed at the surprisingly young unicorn's achievements. She slithers up to Shoal next as Silver returns to his spot.
Kira: "Um, hi, I'm Kubana Kirafiki, but others call me Kira. I'm a huntress for the Kuwinda Kwu Maua tribe in Southeastern Zebrica. My home city is Dhamaji. I'm an expert scout and tracker, able to decent even the faintest of tracks and follow them for miles. I'm especially stealthy, being able to hide almost in plain sight and being as quiet while moving as a stalking leopard. I'm also very good with a bow. I made my own with my mother's help when I was little, and I've taken down my fair share of beasts both mundane and magical with it. Like other hunters in my tribe, I'm also an apprentice alchemist, and know a
select few spells that are quite helpful in the wilderness."
She hands Shoal her papers, which despite their oddity do appear to be fully legitimate and given straight from Customs. They appear to have been granted just yesterday, in fact.
>>178061Character goals
>>178073It's a bit difficult to tell which posts are intended for who, but I think I got the gist of it.
>>178072>So if you could, explain who you are and what you could contributeRosey Ring gives her long-winded monologue of her credentials, similar to what she posted earlier in the thread:
"I am a blackweave warmagus with decades of experience in northeastern griffonia. I know over forty spells, most of which combat hexes, and can cast hexes of up to third level. I am proficient in light armor and martial weapons, as well as with unarmed combat; it's not my specialty, but more than your average soldier. I have moderate stealth capabilities, and if necessary I can make it appear as though my targets have died from dessication or disease. Through my experience, I have mastered the first Meditation of War: my morale is unshakable. I have experience being deployed alongside poisonous gas. I have fortified my body to make myself impervious to minor attacks and I am highly resistant to magic. I have experience in retrieving cadavers from active warzones and toxic mana wastes. I have trained to ignore caltrop wounds and survive stepping on landmines. I am capable of summoning several types of monsters. I specialize in neutralizing griffons and undead, from my experience in Farbrook. Interrogation is another of my specialities, and I pride myself in being able to extract information from deceased subjects. I've trained to work in conditions of total darkness, and despite the need to mediate for spells I am able to work with very little rest. As for poisons..." (continues)
She adds that she prefers close quarters combat, but can operate at a range if necessary. She says that she can operate in bogs and swamps beneath stagnant water for extended periods, but she is not qualified to operate a ship and that her naval experience is limited.
>And if each of you could provide your IDs, we'd like to hold on to them as a security measure for the time of the missionPosey seems uncertain.
"I was under the impression that the point of this mission was to remain inconspicuous. I would prefer to operate on the grounds that my privacy and anonymity be maintained, as leaked information could compromise my career and reputation: the blackweave magic that I use for battle can be unsightly, and I don't need the optics clouding my career as a Necrologist in this political environment."
>>178074"Why hello? What are you a shaman of, and what can you do?"
>>178076For reference, characters
are allowed their weapons here"
He nods and smiles
"Ah yes, you were a part of the group that eliminated those cultists. I'm glad to have you here especially. Thank you for your service. A bit of a shame it was to the princess, but valiant and commendable all the same."
He looks over to the lamia
"Ah! A snake? O... kay.
He takes the papers
>>178078He nods,
"Having a combat mage is always desirable. And making targets look like they died of disease... may just be useful. I expect ponies to be the main threat, though I can hardly rule out griffins, but I seriously doubt you'll encounter undead.
The point of this mission
is to remain inconspicuous. I assure you that maintaining your privacy and anonymity is in
my best interests. You've surely noticed that I did not just send a platoon of my own marines, as I could have. And I did contact the auxiliaries of my local area, as I could have. That's precisely
because I need you to be unknown. Nevertheless, we ask for IDs, in part so we can screen you and make sure you are not an enemy spy, partly as insurance to give you some incentive to come back to us, and in no small part because it would be seriously inconvenient to us if it were found on your dead body. I mean no offense, but what stands to be compromised is far more important than your career and reputation should the truth come out."
>>178079Silver: "We serve country we were born to. I imagine if I had been born in New Mareland and you had been born in Equestria, it would be me in your position and you in mine. What matters is that we serve to best of our ability."
Kira: "Um...lamia, actually." The lamia takes the end of her tail in her hooves and rubs it between them. "So, why do we need to be so inconspicuous and secretive."
Silver responds before Shoal gets a chance to.
Silver: "Because he does not want to start war between New Mareland and Stalliongrad. If New Mareland troops were to land on this island and are discovered by Stalliongrader patrol, or worse if there was firefight between them, then it could spark international incident leading to war New Mareland really can not afford to fight right now. As we are not officially members of New Mareland's military, if we are found or end up fighting any Stalliongraders then New Mareland has plausible deniability that we are just opportunistic third party looking for pay day."
Brie observes silently, thoughtfully
>>178079>so we can screen you and make sure you are not an enemy spy"...Sure...."
Posey begrudgingly forks over her ID and business card
Brie - the semi-sinister but uncomfortably jubilant Bat - lapses out of his nothing box iykyk
"Oh, yes well hello it's a delight to meet the most of you,... Silver, that one time.
I wont fuss around with terminology; I have a perticular mode of operation that keeps certain ponies alive (albeit barely, on occasion, though) and makes "as many as necessary" ponies dead. You mostly won't hear me, tho I can't help but accentuate a good kill with a deep and biting comment, and I'm obnoxious (spoiler). And, while enthusiastic for a grenade, I guarantee that no living and little nonliving damage will occur."
He seems quite proud of that.
>>178078The zeeb's eyes narrow at the mention of a "necrologist," whatever that is. But he manages to hold his tongue for now.
>>178079His attention turns back to introductions
"Earth and fighting
Battle and healing
My primary focus is extinguishing thr undead
But the tribe's needs dictate all, and I follow where I am lead
If a demonstration you want
If I might have a stone
In an effort not to haunt
One for which I will not have to attone"
"Also, I'm (background whispering) eager to serve." He says wirh a suddenly smilier face
Brie ends with a bit of a dramatic fluorish, for some reason
>>178072By this point the griffon had put on a black leather gunbelt around his hip loaded with ammunition and a single revolver by his side, and he had handed over his ID. He raises his voice to be heard by the rest of the room, and looks around at the various other mercenaries as he talks.
"My name is Garv Cavaliere. I hail from Nova Griffonia where my job is to solve problems of different types. Some of them require violence, some can be solved by words alone. If it does come down to violence, I prefer to limit lethality until the situation warrants it, either for myself or for others. This looks to be one such situation. Nova Griffonia has a long and sparsely guarded border with Stalliongrad, and the communists there have oft started border disputes over that territory. Their soldiers are fanatics, and in a fight can scarcely be considered as ponies with how they think and behave. With luck we should arrive before them, and we should avoid detection for as long as possible. I don't doubt any of your fighting prowess, but we will be outnumbered in an unfamiliar territory, which is a fight best avoided.""While I can handle a gun, gunshots tend to carry a long distance. In that area, our approach should be quiet and enemy soldiers handled with stealthy attacks before they can communicate our position. We absolutely must get to that airship and find the survivors as quickly as possible." "Splendid, it appears we have quite the merry little band coming together!" Brie pleasantly chimes in. He looks to the captain. "I will unfortunately have to take a rain check on the identification. In my excitement to pursue this opportunity, I dashed out of the house and left it on my nightstand. You understand, of course. I trust my reputation is sufficient to dispense with all doubt as to my identity. After all, the military has no need to hold collateral, do they?"
(I know, hes a right cunt, and I love that about him)
>>178093This is why we just enslave all the bats in Magehold.
