>>126891She looks at if curiously
“Surely, I must try some”
With silver aura, she grabs the bottle, and carefully pours a small amount on a piece of already cut pancake. She picks it up, and chews on it, looking up as she does
“It’s... a nice, sweet taste, yes”
>>126892“Oh... yes” the small unicorn mare at the front desk answers. “Just a moment, let me contact the drone in charge” she walks off, and it’s a minute. Two minutes, then theee. But she returns with a blue identification card, a set of shoes, and a saddle bag,
“Here are his personal effects. I trust you are with ‘The Bat’?”
>>126893"But are you enjoying the meal?"
>>126893"Indeed. Forgive me for my brevity, but I have to hoof this over to him straight away."
>>126894“Oh yes. It is… well I have had fan fancier meals, but after being so hungry for so long… all I had were the nuts ar the bar. Tough and salty. It is very nice”
She tries to maintain some semblance of propriety as she scoops up outs and hay and stuffs her mouth, while drowning her pancakes in syrup. She occasionally drinks from water
The stallion comes back
“Here you go”
He places apples, strawberries, oranges, and tangerines in plate on the table. He refills the waters
>>126895“Oh, alright”
She returns to frantic paperwork
>>126897Midnight thinks the stallion and tries not to giggle at Meadows, but she isn't exactly eating in the fanciest way either
>>126897Spark smiles and heads back to the prisoner with his card.
>>126898She does slow down when more food arrives, chewing more and swallowing more. She stairs at the fruit, then picks up and apple and bites into it, then more and more, before finishing the apple - seeds, core, and stem
>>126899He is sitting inside the train station on a seat. He stands up and walks to Spark when he sees him
“Huh... you even got my saddle bag”
For once, he smiles
>>126900"Heh, you really were hungry."
>>126900D'awwww.
"No problem. I don't think they will be looking for you for some time, if at all. They are too focused on this mess for the time being."
>>126901She sniffs the orange, before biting into it - no effort to remove the peel - and chewing, opening her mouth to say “This juiciness is delightful”
She looks back to Midnight, and licks up the orange juice that seeps from her mouth.
“Yes, very much so”
She takes another bite of the orange, moving her mouth as she tries to prevent juice from squirting away and seeping our
>>126902“Well.... Thank you. Very much”
He holds out a hoof to shake
>>126904Midnight can't help but giggle at this
"You will,
giggle have to forgive me"
>>126904Spark shakes his hoof.
"I'm going to be a bit busy, but if you ever want to cross the border, hang out near the crossing zone and I can get you on by on my way back. Otherwise, good luck starting your life anew."
>>126905She chews more slowly, then looks back up at Midnight, her eyes wide.
Orange juice drips down her lips, and onto the table
>>126906He shakes. His hoof shake is very firm.
“The crossing zone, you say? Where at?”
>>126907"At the border of Changeling land and the New Mareland Occupation where you would normally move through legally. Getting by the guards is tough unless you know just what to do. Got three over so far and not a scratch."
>>126905Imagine a predator, taking a strip of flesh in their mouth, with blood dripping down on either side. Imagine that, but it’s oranges instead. That’s what Meadows looks like at the moment
>>126908“Huh. That might be worth looking into. I can’t say I’m enthusiastic to stay here, and if I’m going to start life again, it may as well be some place I am not hunted
>>126909"I hopefully won't be here much longer myself, but I have some business to wrap up. I'll make it over there when I can."
>>126907>>126909Adorable
"I am sorry, it is just a little funny to watch"
>>126910He nods
“Thank you, again”
>>126911She sort of scrunch-smiles, and seems to blush in embarrassment, pulling a hoof up, and placing it over her mouth, before chewing more, and swallowing
>>126912Midnight grabs an orange as well, and cuts it into a few pieces before shoving one in her mouth and giving Meadows the ol' orange peel smile.
>>126913"Thank you"
She drags the peel up with her magic, before putting it in her mouth and chewing. She moves on to a tangerine, which is decimated in two bites
>>126912Spark watches him board the train and waves goodbye.
>>126914Midnight chews up her own peel as she giggles
"I am glad I was able to meet you Meadows."
>>126915He waves to him, though he notes the train isn’t leaving quite yet
>>126916She smiles back, and swallows
“He, and I am glad to have met you. Otherwise, I could have been a sacrifice”
>>126917"Well, I am indeed very glad I was able to put a stop to that"
>>126918And she smiles back, muzzle aimed down, looking af midnight, before placing her view on the strawberries. She picks one up in the aura, sniffs it, then takes a small bits, and in a second and a half bites it repeatedly, placing the whole thing in her mouth, and picking up another one
>>126918>>126919Liking strawberry off of her mouth, she asks Midnight
"Where will you go tomorrow?"
>>126920"I am not sure yet. I was going to wait and see what the others do and judge my next move from there."
>>126921She nods,
"They seem like nice ponies. Even if that 'Iron' fellow was a stand-offish."
When Midnight looks away, or looks for a waiter, she swears she can see Meadows picking up the plate and licking it, though when she looks back, she just hears a "clang!" and Meadows staring at her with an awkward, toothy, syrup covered smile
\r
>>126917Wait, what's happening? Who's leaving?
>>126922>makes a note to protect Meadows at all costsMidnight smiles and chuckles a bit
>>126926Spark has purchased a train ticket for the pony that was previously kept as prisoner, and is sending him on his way
>>126927It looks as if Meadows has finished all of the food placed before her. Every grain of oats, straw of hay, drop of syrup, and has not spit out a single orange or apple seed. She licks her lips repeatedly to get the bits of syrup off.
>>126930Ah, good. For a moment I was worried that we weren't going to be able to further emotionally scar that one little tyke who just wants to see the world
>>126934Nope. Ruby is still very much around to be further traumatized
>>126930"I am to assume you enjoyed your meal?"
>>126936She smiles, and nods, closing her eyes as she does so in a slight bow.
“It’s not as fancy as I am used to, no, but it was as mana from heaven after what I had been through. It was light, but it will hold me until the morning”
>>126938"Well, I am glad you enjoyed. We can search for a larger meal into the morning."
Midnight smiles
>>126939"That would be lovely"
She places a hoof up near her mouth.
"I don't... normally eat so quickly, or necessarily so much. It's just been so long since I have eaten at all"
She messes around with her mane until she produces, from the back of her neck, a roll of paper bits, which she looks at
"Um... how do I pay?"
She looks up back at Midnight
>>126940"Ah, one second."
Midnight waves down a waiter
"Check please!"
>>126941It's the same stallion, who is probably the only waiter on duty after 2:00 AM
"Hope you mares had a nice dinner"
He pulls the check off of his back
"Here ya' go"
It's 14 bits in total, sort of pricey until you consider the sheer quantity of food purchased. And of course it's one of those situations where you have to explicitly ask for the check to be split before they will split it
>>126942Midnight looks at the check, and then reaches into her small saddlebag and places 14 bits on the counter.
"There you are."
>>126943Okay, we won't tell you. But would you believe us if we did? >>126944Meadows looks down at the set of bits and blinks
"Are you... paying for me?"
>>126945"I would say you've been through enough recently Meadows. So yes, I am paying for you."
>>126946She gives a smile a bit toothier than normal, and reaches across with her right forehoof, placing it on the cannon of Midnight's right foreleg
"Thank you"
>>126947"It is nothing. I am always glad to help another pony."
Midnight smiles back.
>>126943.... MaybeLook, it isn't about how much time you have, but what you do with it. In that time the southern group has had 12 individual combat sequences, including two with more than a dozen enemies, has killed 32 enemies (35 with the hellhounds), wounded and captured 33 plus another perhaps one dozen, tossed one in a garbage chute and befriended one. There are eight new NPCs that have been given considerable time to develop, plus three major villains, five minor antagonists that have had decent dialogue, and three characters met only in passing... five if you count the two officers that were introduced towards the end. This is on top of exploring four large structures entering dozens of rooms, learning all about the activities of a criminal enterprise as well as an associated religious cult, learning about the cultures, nations and political situations of a half dozen foreign cultures NPCs come from, as well as the history of the structure and the neighborhood - also four sex scenes thus far. The quest was stretched out for longer than I intended because of hiatuses that lasted probably at least two collected months, and further delays for player absences that could last weeks at a time. The dialogue alone probably would have taken up more time in real life than the six hours or so the quest nominally lasted in game time, it is true, and most GMs would have probably stretched it out to two days minimum in game time. But I had written the quest as taking place on the night of the full moon when all members of the cult were gathered for a sacrifice, and thus it took place in a single night.>>126948Her lips close over her teeth, and she stands up, placing her roll of bits back in her mane
"Very well. Shall we go?"
\r
>>126949"Yes, I think it is time to retire for the night... Just need to find a room"
>>126950“Well, I got a key from that pony who looks like a zebra for... some reason.” She pulls out a key with silver magic from her mane
“For a room at the tavern “
>>126951"Oh! You... Would not mind sharing the room, would you?"
>>126952She closes her eyes and nods
“We could share a room. I am... less sure there would be room on the bed for a pony and myself, though, if that bed is made for ponies”
>>126953Midnight smiles
"Well, there is only one way for us to find out."
She opens the door for Meadows so they can head back.
>>126954EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>126955They walk down the half-lit, mostly empty streets, down two blocks, then three blocks, back to the tavern. When they enter, Meadows makes a special note
“What will happen to them?”
She points a hoof at Mala, Undertoe, Khoi and Keskoo
>>126956Midnight pauses before walking over to the small group
"Did the others give you all a room?"
>>126956So having determined the location(?) of the incident that led to Zu Lang turning into a wtf? along with company, Brie would first want to ascertain anyone else's interest in stabbing things in the face. :3
This means checking with Spark, Onyx, the smol Lings, the bigger Lings, etc
>>126958The nymphs are somewhat cowed - Kerr included, and remain in the carriage. Kerr is in a corner, while Wesley hides under a blanket. Fun and Seb don't fair much better, trying to stay down low on the carriage seats and floorboards respectively
>>126957ONYX HAS BEEN SUMMONED
>>126957Johann is the first to answer: "The representatives of the Blackhooves were supposed to give e a room. They've stepped out for a moment"
Mala sits down, looking at Midnight
"No..."
Khoi shakes her head
Undertoe does not look at Midnight as she answers, but says
"I can buy a hotel room if you will let me go"
>>126958Spark would be just returning from the train station towards the pit.
>>126959Midnight sighs
"Go with Meadows to the room. I will be up soon."
Midnight then walks over to Meadows, explains, and then goes to ask if she can get more blankets and pillows.
>OnyxYes, hello. He is indeed alive.
>>126960>>126961Brie is skipping ahead some time to the next morning
>>126961She nods, and smiles, opening the door, and looking around
Glistening glass answers
"Uh... Sure, I think I can find some"
>>126963Does he go inside the carriage that is full of Changelings, or outside where there are totally no eldritch abominations?
I guess he could look for accommodations elsewhere
>>126962Ah. Then he should be back with the changeling friends.
>>126965Snug as a bug in a rug, even if it is very crowded
>>126963He carries the big set of pillows, blocking out his face
"Here ya' go"
And places them on the bar
>>126964Onyx is sleeping under the carriage. Best of both worlds....
>>126966Midnight nods as she loads herself up with pillows, stacking some on her back to be stabilized with her wings before heading towards the room.
>>126960"Splendid! Spark, are you busy? I have a hunch that the Gendarme's situation has a local cause and I wanted to go
stab address any evident culprits."
>>126967And so Onyx finds a place that is safe from from both the drones and the unknown horrors of the forest... unless the Carriage is swiped out fro over him by a mighty, alien claw, or if the nymphs come down to feed on him like massive, parasitic wasps... best not to think about it, and get some sleep. It's more than a little cold though
>>126967Midnight goes through the door, and though she does not know the room number, one upstairs has a door open. Inside, Meadows is looking around with a single bedstand, dresser, and one double bed that could
maybe snugly fit both Meadows and Midnight, but certainly not without them touching
>>126968"Not busy at the moment. What do you suppose is going on here then?"
>>126969Midnight dumps the small mountain of pillows on the floor.
"You can have the bed Meadows. I will sleep the others on the floor. I've survived worse."
She smiles and yawns as she says this.
>>126971"Are you sure? Is that really fair to them?"
>>126972"It is fine Meadows. You just rest."
>>126973She lays don on her belly, her head between her legs, popping over the end of the bed as she looks back to Midnight
>>126974Midnight goes to fetch the others after she organizes the pillows into a sort of pad.
>>126975Soon, Midnight has a trail of creatures behind her
>>126976She leads her little parade back to the room, and she helps them get comfortable on the pillows.
>>126977Undertoe:
"I can go to a hotel"
Johann:
"Hmmm... I think I will wait for the return of the representatives"
Meadows
"Oh, you can't let males sleep in the same room as females. Especially that one, the gnoll" Pointing to Mala
Mala whimpers
>>126978If anypony paid close enough attention, they would notice one of Midnight's eyelids twitch and a very quiet snort.
"Mala will not be any trouble, I assure you. As for the representatives, I can promise you they are either asleep or... preoccupied by now."
>>126970"Hard to say really, but it seems something that can transform changelings into abominations of sorts. I am wanting to conclude the report at that, but I feel an inspection is in order, and if my suspicions are correct then there will be necessary stabbing."
>>126979Undertoe:
"I can go to the hotel"
Johann:
"I've been told there are accommodations with the Blackhooves"
Mala pants and sits down
Khoi rolls out a blanket
Meadows:
"But... unmarried males and females can't be in the same room together..."
>>126981"Ut luna det mihi patientia... Fine, go find a hotel. Anypony not wishing to stay here can travel with you."
>>126980"Got any ideas on where to start looking?"
>>126982Undertoe gets up, as does Johann. Mala does not, nor does Khoi
Khoi:
"Didn't the zebra say he would keep track of her?"
>>126980https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icvRDSzB7Dc >>126983"Indeed! I've got a fair idea of a map that gets us to the very site the problem seems to have originated from. Feeling,... venturesome?" He says with a twinkle in his eye, inadverdently flashing a few concealed throwing-knives.
>>126984"If he did, he is not doing a very good job of it. But no matter, the question is how to arrange this mess..."
Midnight trudges to the bar once again.
>>126985Kek
>>126986She goes back down to the bar, where Glistening Glass is cleaning up
>>126987"I am sorry to bother you again. But how much is a room for one night?"
Midnight looks very tired at this point, her wings dragging on the ground beside her.
>>126988https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8ssIi80nvk"For one night?"
He looks up, then around
"I ca do it for 30 bits. Also my bartender hasn't shown back up and claimed his room. I can loan that one out"
>>126988https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8ssIi80nvk >>126990Somewhere, Onyx's ear twitches for a reason he doesn't know.
"That will do, thank you."
She reaches in and produces 30 bits, but pauses before closing her bag
"and how much more for a glass of wine?"
>>126985"Sure, as long as you lead the way."
Spark chuckles.
>>126992He bows a bit excessively "Naturally,"
>>126990Can Onyx come out to play?
>>126991>>126993Onyx awakes from under his carriage. It's still dark out, but he feels less awful
>>126991He takes the bits
"You know, you are the second lady to request wine tonight. I should start carrying it... But I don't have any"
>>126994>>126993"Hello? Anypony awake out there that ain't a bug?"
Midnight nods
"I understand, thank you for the room though."
She marches back to the other room to see what kind of Tartarus has happened in the brief time she was gone.
>>126995"Ah, there you are. Feel like maybe
stabbing something?"
>>126996"Why not, I'm not doing anything worthwhile at the moment."
>>126995Not too bad, could be worse. Undertoe is marching downstairs and can be encountered on the way up. Johann is standing on the upper railing, and inside the room Meadows seems to be afraid of Mala as Mala pants and Khoi pets Meadows
>>126998"We now have a second room. I will take Mala there."
She nods towards him before turning around and making her way to the room
