Welcome back to the Latest Thread of Occupied Equestria

Onyx, Spark and Brie settle down for the night in a cabin in the woods along with a set of recently rescued ponies, saved from Changeling cocoons, as well as the changelings who sought to take them captive, who are themselves locked away as captives.

In Baltimare, Silver, Dark Star, Iron, and now Midnight Lily do their last preparations before seeking to take on a creature smuggling operation in a port-side neighborhood

Sometimes I wonder. Are the descriptions overly long, are they at all interesting? Is there too much of that? Is the pacing still awful? What are you expecting? How do you think the story will go? Is there any mystery? Is the combat stale and repetitive? Too easy? Is there any tension? Do you feel like you have meaningful choices in advancing the action?

Every step is a sort of mystery. Every decision seems meaningful and every encounter is tense... well, maybe not to the killing machine. It is in no way stale. I mean, our enemies have the chance of chaning sides and become an NPC. That is amazing. The pacing is only slow because we are. You have done a great job.

Hm...
While I assume some like the worldbuilding you propose, perhaps you could try a lighter variation. Reduce said descriptions to about 4 pieces of information maximum.
Pacing is... complicated, and mostly not your fault. Rather is some players having sporadic times available to play.
I had almost no expectations aside from rolling dice and beating stuff up, tbh.
Story seemed unimportant overall, unless you meant worldbuilding, which in that case is above-average, and probably never-ending unless the PC dies.
Mystery is there, but I probably failed to pick it up for this mission, but I did have this sense of exploring a new world with the temple jig.
Combat is... unsure. Not sure if it can be unstaled and less repetitive, to be fair. Only way you could spice that up is by allowing some extra books, but it's overall unnecessary as long as the fights are somewhat short, spanning 4-7 rounds at most.
I don't mind difficulty. It's well balanced.
Tension in this particular mission no, but there definitely is overall.
I think I'm doing well with advancing the action, but perhaps I read the briefing wrong. Physical evidence and guards should be good food for the Black Hooves to stop this or take advantage of the mean griffs.

>Are the descriptions overly long, are they at all interesting? Is there too much of that?
I wouldn't say so. I personally enjoy the lore and backstory they give and find them interesting, even if I don't always explicitly say so. The issue I see is that sometimes the information necessary for the upcoming mission is sidelined for the lore, so I would watch out for that. My suggestion when it comes to missions would be to get the basics out of the way first, then divulge further into the lore.

>Is the pacing still awful?
It may take a hundred or so sessions to advance a single day, but with how frequent things come up, it doesn't feel terrible. Perhaps if this were a more traditional adventure campaign then the current pacing would be an issue, but outside of the Bales group there hasn't been much of an opportunity for anything like that. I also only have experience with this campaign, so I only have this one to compare itself to, but it doesn't feel bad. It might be an issue later if we get into a longer-term story arc or mission, so we might have to revisit pacing once it comes up.

>What are you expecting?
To have fun? I didn't come into this game with many other expectations, and it's been met so far.

>How do you think the story will go?
I have no idea. The most definate story arc for the campaign I've seen so far is that the Elements of Harmony need to be united with new Bearers to prevent the second coming of the Windigoes and throwing Equus into an age of cold and death. The upcoming Second Great War is another story arc, but seems to be a little abstract at the moment.

>Is there any mystery?
I am absolutely terrible at mysteries, so I'm not certain I'd be able to answer that.

>Is the combat stale and repetitive? Too easy?
Not at all, though I've only been in a couple combat encounters so far. I'm sorry again about splitting up the party and making it so you can't fully test the party's might against full encounters.

>Is there any tension?
There has been, be it moments where I wasn't sure if someone would succeed, fail, or die. In this particular instance, we haven't been in a tense situation yet, but I feel it'll be coming up.

>Do you feel like you have meaningful choices in advancing the action?
Honestly, usually not, though I'm more familar with those kinds of linear stories than I am open-ended ones. I'm not opposed to either, it's just what I've noticed so far.

While the ponies are quite tolerant, I don't expect them to accept slithering snakes that could constrict a pony into submission, and call the pest exterminators.
Better have its ID handy just for lulz. That will make them flabbergasted.
For the fugitive route it sounds quite fun, but be mindful the Baltimares are working with the newly established law that is the Black Hooves.

When the latest of the ascended princesses, Princess Twilight, told the ponies of the land that Friendship means looking past physical differences to extend harmony to all sentient creatures, many joined her. Many of them agreed but only to an extent - they remained chauvinistic in their understanding of friendship, willing to admit other creatures but only so long as they acted like good ponies. And many, as there are in every society, resisted change, and believe that friendship is best left to the ponies.

There is nothing that I have said that indicates this yet but you are right. In fact, I have a question for the GM regard that my chracter knows things that I don't.
Does new mareland have and magic academia or something similar since my character is a wizard. I would like her to have gotten/getting her spellcasting education from there.

A little background on New Mareland. Formerly the Dominion of New Mareland, it was a colony of Equestria but has now reversed the situation. It’s culturally, ethnically and religiously rather similar to Equestria and is settled on the edges of the griffin lands on the continent of Griffonia. Their economy was dependent in large part on the Griffonian empire and so fell apart when that empire collapsed. They find the new griffin kingdoms that have arisen there to be threatening, and also do not like the hordes of griffin immigrants who compete for precious few jobs and who might serve as a “fifth column” for an invasion. The wildlife is harsher there, and ponies defend themselves from it more often. They are also further away from the princesses both literally and metaphorically than average equestrians.

Yes, there would be magic academies there. Sunset, which is kind of like a pony version of Sydney, Australia, is the capital there and has the biggest university. However, the real top of the line pony magicians go to the university in Canterlot, and most big cities - Manehattan, Fillydelphia, and even Baltimare - have big universities.

Well, the Principality of Equestria is gone, meaning the government, the princesses, and the elements of Harmony (the ponies who represented them) are gone. The equestrian ponies, the Lands, their institutions, and in many cases even the local governments have survived, at least on the New Mareland side.

>are they at war to reclaim lost pony lands
The situation is closest in nature to occupied Poland during the Molotov Ribbentrop pact between September 1939 and June 1941. Another comparison would be occupied Germany immediately after world war 2. Basically, the two powers were recently co-belligerents or allies who fought together against Equestria, and ultimately split the country in half. Right now, there is peace between the Changelings and the Ponies, and the Pony government is actually still at war with different griffin based nations across the ocean. But the Changelings and the ponies are ideologically opposed, and there is every reason to believe this peace will not last.

Canterlot is right next to the border, with the border (in at least one version of the map) actually running along that river that goes right through ponyville. Bales and Hoofington would also be right along the border. The university in Sunset is almost as far away from the changelings as you can get and still be in the Ponish speaking world.

Silver slips into the water, and feels it not much above icy cold in the dead winter. The silt bottom, or what parts of it are not rock and I identified debris, is more black and gory than is really pleasant, probably from decaying plant matter, but possibly from bitumen or Celestia knows what.

Silver knows he has messed up, and he knows that time is of the essence. He places a forehoof onto the walkway. The uneven cement surface is a help more than a hinderance here, as it provides traction. A rock in the water provides the same to his rear hooves, and he pushes himself out and onto the walkway.

The griffin is looking straight at him. But Silver has his greatsword grasped in blue light. It flies through the air in his levitated grasp, to the griffin’s left, then, jabbed on its pommel end right into the side of his head behind his jaw. He instantly falls down, evidently unconscious, face down into the walkway. A wing and his foreclaw dip into the water, and the bar he was holding falls down into the water with a splash. Dark Star’s arrow sticks up out of the griffin’s back

There’s the question of how much sound the griffin made. I guess Silver did roll an 18, then a 20 on an attack roll, then am 18 on a conformation roll, so maybe it is fair to say that Silver got lucky this time...

Of Course I do. My childhood’s neighbor’s properties all had seashores covered in concrete rubble taken from industrial sites and dumped there to prevent hurricanes from washing more land away. As a child I would play skipping from one slab to the other. Why shouldn’t a fantasy world have the same?

I think someone is having a flashback to that moment in every single mission we've had as a group where something gets set on fire and it turns into an inferno.

"Thank you, but you do not have to do that."

Use Rope: Silver uses his survival knife to cut a measure of rope, and hogtie the griffon. He's primarily concerned about getting it so the griffon can't simply use his talons to cut the bindings. He also uses the knife to cut one of the foresleeves on his fatigues up into a ribbon with which he can gag the catbird.

The building is taller than either the center building, or the workshop on the far right, and aside from smoke stacks on the workshop and the chimney of the central building, is also taller. It’s square in shape, and seems to be older, made of larger, lighter shade stones than the cement facade center building or the brick workshop. The three widows seem to have light curtains in front of them, something blocking part of the view inside but not the light

The tunnel, at least for this span, is dark and damp. There is, at the far end, a light shining. But unlike the metaphorical light at the end of the tunnel, this one offers no cause for optimism. Despite an entry that implies a circle, past the concrete entryway the tunnel is old stone with ragged edges, with come down . The stone at the very bottom is stained an almost black where the water touches it, and and the color lightens towards the top until a final stain line ends just barely before the top. The bare top is white. Along parts of the wall there are black-orange stains of old iron bands that probably once held torches back in the days when this site belonged to the Principality and was part of the defense against the dragons, or perhaps in the first century it belonged to the city. The water is kind of deep, going almost up to Dark Star’s barrel, but not past that. It has an unpleasant chill, and smell of both salt and whatever else pollutes the harvor it flows out of the Hayseed river

The not-mimic pony continues to look at you, as if expecting or waiting for something

>>114966
The not-mimic pony watches with wide eyes as the hoof closes in on her snootendootle, crossing them as they finally make contact. It feels soft, yet firm, and is covered with a thin film of what feels like saliva.

Before you have any time to react, the not-mimic pony takes a sudden sharp intake of breath and launches forward out of her chest, revealing that she was, in fact, a mimic all along. She grabs you and pulls you in, surrounding you in the velvetty embrace of her home. It does indeed feel like a mouth, with the mimic serving as a tongue. The mimic wraps herself around you, her tongue-shaped hair caressing your other side. In an instant you are covered in saliva. She is very soft, but has enough substance to make it feel like she is actually there.

As you cuddle, your heart feels slightly more full than it was before, even if your pockets seem just a bit more empty now.
