Occupied Equestria - Hazardous Crossing
Anonymous

No.105000
105007
Set six years after season 6, Occupied Equestria presents an alternative history where the Changelings have conquered half of Equestria, while a former Equestrian colony - soured to Princess Twilight's notion of harmony with all creatures because of their encounters with griffins - Invaded and took the other half. In Baltimare and the Equestrian Southeast, the magic of friendship has weakened, as Communists, Changeling infiltrators, Fascists, gangs, and corrupt creepy politicians threaten the city. This role play is based in large part upon the Equestria at War mod for Hearts of Iron 4, and uses D&d 3.5e mechanics

Shimmering Spark, Onyx Steel, and Brie Achtungsex now make the perilous crossing into the Changeling Lands. In Baltimare, Dark Star prepares for his next big assignement, while Silver concludes his mentoring of traumatized foals. Much further away, Iron stands under jeweled nighttime skies, preparing his next move

She looks back up and probably over her shoulder to her right at Iron.
“A ‘finders fee’ is a tradition based upon maritime salvage operations where an owner of the lost treasure is known and easily located. The industry custom is 10% of the whole. Archeological sites don’t follow the Law of the Sea, they are under the Antiquities Act. The Antiquities Act states that historical artifacts older than 300 years belong to the cultures that produced them, which is kind of a legal vacuous term but it generally means the government, but the government’s claim can also be taken by public institutions. In this case, it would be the Tenochtitlan Autonomous Area. Peer Review had this grand idea that it would either be exchanged to the museums in Tenochtitlan and Baltimare in exchange for ‘donations’ and ‘established scholarships.’ Possibly some of it would be on display at the university for possibly a small fee, and in any event they could make money selling books about it, or petition the government for more funds. There are circumstances where parts of a cache can be sold privately, but I don’t know the law well enough. Of course, with the change of administration from Canterlot to Sunset, it’s not even clear that the Antiquities Act applies at all.”

Iron's head cocks, confused at how his question triggered an explanation of what is a finder's fee compounded with Peer's donation tactics and the possibility of the act that allows the fee being quite malleable.

AUTHOR’S NOTE:
I don’t really know what the laws for the ownership of historical artifacts is in most nations, but judging by the fact that most of the more interesting artifacts end up in government-owner museums, the government probably claims ownership. In Britain and France, for example all or most major artifacts extracted by their respective nations are displayed in their national museums... even when these were blatantly stolen from other nations. The Untied States’ Antiquities Act of 1906 states that all artifacts found on Federal and Tribal Lands - but not Private Lands - belong to the Government (probably Federal, maybe Tribal, I don’t know).

So where does this leave Equestria? Well, Equestria (in my portrayal - I do not know about the show) is what is technically an Empire that aspires to be a culturally homogenous nation-state. Thus it could either have a policy based on assimilation, where all artifacts belong to the central government, probably to be displayed in the big museums in Canterlot, or a policy based on minorities’ rights, where local governments would have the first claim. I think an interesting combination would be “Antiquities must be given to a relevant claimant,” possibly with local claimants having a ‘first pick’ or something. This would mean that either the local or central governments could get it, and they could compete by exchanging something in return, or in the case of universities, giving funding and grants to the university in exchange for giving up their own claim to be “the Equestrian public.” This would leave a world where money can be made off of historical artifacts legally, while still having realistic limits to what can be sold.

All that is really story relevant is that it is illegal to sell antiques except under certain circumstances, that it is still possible to make money off of Antiquities legally by means of legal fictions, and that the amount of money raised (directly) by selling it legally is much less than the amount it would sell for to private bidders on the black market in Skyfall.

Silver Sword's silver sword comes down upon the unknown creature from above, striking the top of its head, bouncing against its skull but breaking it, and tearing off the ear in the process. It comes down onto its neck, severing the spinal cord, tearing flesh, then into the shoulder where it renders the bones of the collars apart. No blood comes from the creature, and it falls down to the floor

>>106121
Pear is prancing around the fire in an excited set of jumps. She has taken her hat off, and let her hair down into pretty streams of orange-red. She wears only an open brown-green jacket, and a set of three feather on a necklace around her neck. She sings in an alien language

"Whakarongo mai ki ahau, nga atua nui o Marexica, nga rangatira o te raorao me nga mea katoa kei reira. Ko ahau te tamahine a taku tohunga nui, a ka hoki mai i te toru tekau o nga whakatupuranga. Hoki mai ki te tango i to whenua me to ture. Kua hinga koe i te atua o te ra, kua ngaro ia inaianei. Kei te mura te ahi i te riri me te totohe. Ka kai koe i te pai."

There is some wood, off to the far left, though it's not exactly clear when that got there or it is really enough for the fire. She isn't really big enough to gather that much wood. She must have found wood over from some unseen stockpile gathered by the expedition, and brought it over when Iron wasn't looking. At least that's the simplest explanation, anyways.

Cauldron sleeps, and the prisoners seem to. Insects still make their sounds, and it remains hot. The nearly full moon illuminates what the fire does not, and the stars are out

Oh boi the translation is quite scary. Is this a language a somewhat ignorant Native would know or is it the super duper secret Elder talk?
Iron can't help but bask in the supposed ritual in front of him, slightly dragging his body around to catch every second of it.
(What is she doing? Is she calling to the gods? Whatever it is, Cauldron seems to be right something is amiss.)
Iron decides to simply spectate for now, as she might panic if she discovers Iron has witness her secret side. Although the whole moving thing may actually make her aware that somepony's watching.

"Rest now, tortured soul." Into the sheath his sword goes once again. He feels strangely lucky that he came out of that unharmed. Or, perhaps there is someone looking out for him.

Silver reloads his SMG before heading to the corpse of the undead militia pony to search his jacket pockets.

Okay, so she is speaking in old Neighuatl, which if it isn't the same language as Iron's native tribe, or if the language has drifted, is probably at least similar

She continues, prancing around in a circle around the fire, around her four idols placed at corners. Her hair bobs up and down as she prances

"Haere mai i nga atarangi kua huna e koe. Hoki mai i te torona tiretiera i herea ai koe."

She stops at the marble stone dog statue
"Ko Xolotl, te atua o te uira, ko te whakahoki mai i nga tupapaku, ka hoki mai ki a matou mai i to whare herehere i te whetu ahiahi"

She prances over, and to the Jade turkey idol
"Chalchiuhtotolin, he atua nui o te whiu me nga mate. Hoki mai ki a matou i nga wahi huna i raro i nga awa me nga awa kua tanumia"

She prances over the the obsidian jaguar idol on another corner
"Tezcatlipoca, te atua Jaguar o nga hurricanes, te pakanga, me nga hau o te po, ka hoki mai ki a tatou. Hoki mai i to wahi huna i raro i nga ngahere"

She then prances happily over to the last idol, the golden idol of a pony skeleton
"Te nuinga o ratou, te atua o te mate, Mictlantecuhtli. I peia koe ki te reinga ka hirihia ki reira. Pakaruhia to hiri me te whakaora i to rangatiratanga"

She then continues prancing around in a circle
"Ko te atua o te ra, nana nei koe i tuku, kua ngaro. Tangohia ahau hei tohunga kau. Ka awhina ahau ki a koe, ka koropiko ki a koe, ka rite ki taku tupuna i mua i ahau."
Pear is a bit preoccupied at the moment
