Found it weird the first time I saw it, eventually got used to it. Enjoyed it more on later viewings. As a movie it's so-so; it's like if somebody took the premise of Mean Girls and said "let's do this but put magic and shit in it."
>Rainbow Rocks
This one I found surprisingly enjoyable, this was the one that convinced me the series was worth giving a chance. I feel like this was the point where the franchise found its footing and figured out the right formula for "high school drama but also there's magic and ponies and shit."
>Friendship Games
Didn't care for this one. I haven't watched it since 2019 so I don't remember the specifics of why I didn't like it, I just remember that it made no positive impression on me. According to Wikipedia it was the only one written entirely by Haber so that probably had something to do with it.

This one, however, I really liked. With this one and Rainbow Rocks, I had the pleasant experience of sitting down to watch something I expected to be mediocre, but wound up getting actually pulled into it.

From what I've been told it was sort of like Star Trek TNG, in that started as kind of a weird half-baked spinoff, but eventually grew into its own thing that could be appreciated separately.
