Many good questions, and I know there is some infographs out there. But I'll try to give some insight to a few of the questions. Some will probably depend on how much off the grid you want to go. But lets assume you got unlimited funds and that the society haven't collapsed totally.

I think the most important when it comes to location if you are going to live of the grid is to select a spot with reliable access to freshwater. This can be a well (probably safest and most reliable). You can also buy one of the saltwater to freshwater pumps that you can buy for sailboats if you only have access to saltwater. Or if you live inawoods a stream can be good also, but I would prefer a bit more underground and naturally sifted supply. You can also collect rainwater or morning dew in a pinch.

Depending on time you are going to live and if you have access to service to empty the septictank at steady intervals. You can also buy one of those Bio toilets or Incinerating toilet that turns the waste to dust (or something). There is several types for cabins and the like. Another method is to have an RV troilet and at regular intervals take the tank into the woods, dig a hole, and dump it in that boefore filling the hole with dirt again. Other waste water (gray water) you can just spill almost anywhere.

Internet you can get via Satelite (several opperators provides this). It is an expensive and not the fastest, but it is an reliable way to get access to internet even if you're in the middle of the Atlantic.

For power, I would suggest Solar and Wind (good to have a backupsystem that works even at night). But I am not that sure about power. If you got a stream, or lake near by that you can lay pipes to, you can probably get a tiny hydroplant to supply your house.

I will try to think of more to post, but wanted to post this before it got too long.

>What professions
Ideally a marketable or barter-able trade, skill, or resource. You'd be amazed at how often people in your area might need and not have a tractor, or the ability to replace wiring, etc. Tools can also be bartered (I'll loan you my blurr for a blahh).
>How to make money
Same answer. If you can/do hunt, you can sell the meat, especially if you can cure and/or smoke it yourself. Wild/farmed produce - plant or animal based - is another good option.
>Best source of energy
Existing power sources, and I don't mean electrical. If you're in a wind-area, wind turbines are a good option. You'll have to make alot of them, and you'll need a battery relay to store power for times when there's no wind, but you can find plans/parts/instruction for DIY turbines on Youtube. The same goes for water turbines if you have access to a stream/creek. You can't draw power from a small water source as easily as wind, but you can use it to supply your homestead with fresh water (assuming).
>Waste water
That's actually easier than you might think. All you need is a septic system with a drain field. You can make a drain field by cutting a plastic barrel in half, laying both halves end-to-end (dome side up), filling them with gravel, and then attacking the outfeed of the septic to the top of the first barrel. A septic system naturally allows solid matter to liquify over time, and as the level of the septic increases, it will feed out through the drain field and absorb into the ground. You'll want the outfeed to be at least 20' 'downhill' from the septic system, but once you have it set up, as long as you don't flood the damn thing for some reason, it should last a lifetime.
>internet
Uhm,... good luck with that, outside an ISP or an unlimited mobile device set as a dedicated hotspot.

>What are the best places to go off grid?
Head to the North West front.

>What are some essential tools for going off grid?
3d printer, foundry, solar panels/wind turbine

>How much would it cost to start a homestead?
Depends on how much land you want and if you are building the house.

>What professions are best for someone planning to go off grid later in life?
Any of the trades, Engineering, Chemistry, Material science, medicine

>How can you make money off grid?
If you are close enough to a highway maybe own a gas station or you could do freelance coding.

>what is the best source of energy?
Depends on the location but solar, wind, and diesel are the best.

>How will you get internet?
Satellite or HAMnet

>Is it more realistic to find other people to go off grid with or is it easier to do it alone?
I would want to do it with friends. It takes a lot to keep a homestead going and it would be easier with more people.

>What are the best off grid building materials for housing?
Wood, stone, or adobe depending on location.

>How will you get water?
Depends on location but wells, streams, or rain water.

>What will you do with waste water?

I've been binging this guy's videos for a while:

Kris Harbour
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5rT7F0PGNuD54rJ9kzgWzw

Englishman who buys some land in Wales, creates a Youtube channel and starts building. He ends up (after several years) with a house to live in, power from solar/hydro, running water, Internet access, a workshop and everything you might want - and it's all built mostly by hand by one guy and occasionally friends.
There is a huge amount of labour that goes into it, but it is possible and this might give some inspiration to anyone thinking about it.

Personally though, I would aim for getting a community started that is partially independent and self-sustaining.

>water
Tricky question, depends on place, you can drink from some plants, or get some of that morning dew with a net, or get some water from a civilized area in secret, or filter some water from a river; Water depends a lot on the place.
I recommend you to not carry more than 20kg in your backpack, get a pair of steel plated boots for your journey and make sure your backpack is waterproof.
Tents are heavy, if you are traveling alone just have something to keep yourself warm and carry two of second pic to use as a roof on an improvised shelter, this is in case you don't find a place to stay.
Get two military canteens, the ones that come with an aluminum cup, that shit always comes handy.
I would advise you to at least have one other person with you at all times, but if that is too much trouble or you just don’t feel like it, a dog is man's best friend, please keep doggo well feed while surviving in the wild.
Also take care of your health, brush your teeth every day and take a bath if you get the chance, illness doesn't care about whenever you are at your house or the wilderness.

For those interested: te highly aware that MANY persons are going to likewise head out innawoods a minimum of 50 miles away from the closest city populations of 50,000 to survive. However, the average survival time for a novice is only 1 month before they are forced to return closer for basic necessities.

Likewise, be aware of multiple family & friend groups that WILL claim a reserved wilderness area they know well. Sources of fresh, untainted water are not only vital, they will be fought to the death over for whom controls streams, ponds, lakes, and even small beaches on rivers. Trading with such large units is a necessity, especially during poor weather conditions. DO NOT CONSIDER OR PLAN ON ATTACKING SUCH GROUPS! You and your own group (if applicable) will end up in a scenario worse than the Green River Valley Feud, that is, hunted down and wiped out in retaliation. Revenge is for the stupid and weak minded, yet stupidity in large numbers is a force multiplier. Do not create a no-win scenario when there is no necessity for it.

There is however one exception to the above rule: targeting religious enclaves. In particular, mormons, jehovahs, orthodox catholics, and other likewise apocalypse-loving splinter groups are highly subversive counter-your-culture movements whom will NOT be friendly regardless of your origin or like mindedness. They will trade small amounts of minor items only to establish an understanding of what they can or will gain by killing off you or your group to further their ideological standing.
-Best case scenario: remove all public leaders and spiritual guides before committing to raiding their enclave. Keep in mind that they will work to subvert ALL populations nearby in the hopes of acquiring followers and thus power, they will eventually attempt to overrun & establish dominance of a county or local region. As these types of religious enclaves degenerate into feudal societies they will pose ever increasing dangers to survivalist families and camps within a 60 mile radius.
-Worst case scenario: wait too long to prevent growth of a religious enclave and it will reach the feudal stage wherein there is one "elected" leader, a number of enforcers & spiritual guides whom are absolutely loyal enough to perform any task asked of them, and a large number of hapless drones whom will obey commands, especially those commands that aid in keeping their cognitive dissonance subjective.

full-first-aid-manual-fm-2111.pdf
survival-medicine.pdf
survival-personal-wilderness-medical-kit.pdf
where-there-is-no-dentist_2010.pdf
These 5 .pdf's should be printed off, read, understood, and stored in an airtight, water proof container. Pay close attention to the problem of attempting to take too many medical supplies if you are alone, or storing too much in offsite locations that may not be accessible after a disaster. As learned from the many manufactured Baltic "Problems" of the 1980's and 1990's the chance of surviving a single bullet wound without modern medical treatment is less than 30%; in comparison the chance of surviving a single non-vital stab wound is 80%. There are many factors at play here: environmental sterility, nutrition, stress & hormonal response levels, cleanliness, speed of treatment after being wounded, individual morale, and much more. Basic common sense will improve one's chances far more so than all the equipment in the world.

In general:
-AVOID common medical kits. Too many of them state "X number of pieces", the majority of which have large amounts of basic plasters (band aids). These are NOT effective for anything other than minor cuts or scrapes. Instead, buy compression bandages and large
-DO BUY bulk amounts of surgical tape. If surgical tape is too expensive, high grade electrical or duct tape works well, yet keep in mind those will not allow the skin to breathe freely. Cloth tape works better than synthetic fabric, though it is more important to simply have a large stock rather than being worried over which one is the best.
-AVOID gimmicky medical items such as Israeli bandages and do-it-all single bandage kits. The cost for these is much higher in the long run than 2-3 spare Ace bandage rolls, multiple sports tape packages, or other self-adhesive bandage wraps. In addition, the fewer items that make crinkling sounds while you travel, the better off you are.
-ATTEMPT to purchase and keep in your SHTF bag items such as the Celox blood clotting granule applicator & plunger set, the traumatic first aid packet, granular hemostatic blood-clotting packet, or the blood clotting solution. There is a reason that Celox brand is preferred the world over: it. fucking. works. You do not want an inferior product when you are suffering from a large bleeding wound. Keep in mind that it will be necessary to know how to remove the life-saving debris from such wounds; if large amounts of sterile water is not available then a heated spoon, fork, or other such device will be required to remove the clotting solution/granules. Better to be in great pain than to simply die from a preventable infection.
-AVOID unnecessary expenses and weight. Do not buy more than you are unable to comfortably move around. For reference, the average untrained non-survivalist 30 year old is barely capable of maintaining 30 kilograms (66 pounds) for a maximum of 3 days at a 3MPH power walk before tiring, which will then require 16-24 hours of rest before continuing on again. A maximum of 20 kilograms (44 pounds) is more easily handled for someone in such condition, especially with a comfortable heavy strapped pack, or a coyote pack, though maintaining enough calorie intake to reach a relatively safe distance of 20 miles from the nearest city will be moderately difficult.
-ALTERNATIVES do exist when decreasing the bell curve for long distance travel where additional weight is needed. A simple travois is easy to scavenge & put together; 1 travois can easily add an additional 30 pounds of equipment, food, or other vital necessities without placing much of a burden on the user. Simple field carts such as those used to drag deer can increase the amount by anywhere from 50-100 pounds, while large, professionally built 2-wheeled or 4-wheeled carts can easily triple quadruple the amount of supplies brought during long distance travel.
-ASSUMING that an individual/group has access to 1 or more 4-wheeler, ATV, SUV, snowmobile, or pickup, bringing along a specified selection of basic materials in a severe disaster scenario will greatly increase survivability & long term chances. Several bolts of cotton (canvas preferred), a number of 2x4's or 4x4's, several 5 gallon buckets with lids, a number of fence posts, several tarps, a bucket of 10 penny nails + hammer, a wood cutting axe, sledgehammer, splitting maul, pickaxe, and any number of other easily accessible items can greatly improve in the establishment of suitable living conditions.
-NUTRITION is incredibly vital in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Most commonly available MRE's are hotly, and rightly, derided as they contain large amounts of semi-synthetic and synthetic preservatives which will inevitably cause additional short-term dietary problems besides increased dehydration. You do not want to face constipation during a 3-5 day hike to a sheltered location, nor do you want to be consuming questionable ingredients, in particular soy, when every calorie counts. Choose foods with as few added ingredients as possible. Above all, the human body requires approximately 1 gallon of water per day for hydration, and as a final warning, remember the 70/20/10 rule: 70% vegetables, 20% meats, 10% fruits for an optimal diet.

All joking aside, Anon, religious enclaves are the first to start conflict after the outbreak of a disaster. Before the slum gangs, the stranded mafias and cartels, before even the "left/center/right wing dissidents" mobilize their numbers. During the relatively recent problems in Venezuela, a number of mormon & catholic strongholds attempted to take over close by towns. They were repelled by locals, often assisted by the few remaining police available. This was not reported by Central American news agencies and is utterly unheard of in North America. For another example, during Hurricane Katrina 2 jesuit enclaves and 1 mormon enclave attempted to take control of their mostly abandoned suburbs before the hurricane itself landed. Barely armed locals forced them from raiding those whom were unable to relocate in a hurry. This is likewise virtually unheard of. Here in Tennessee there are many whom have permanently relocated and are still willing to speak of those incidents, particularly those that the jesuits targeted.

Power is a tricky thing, to wield it is to exert one's egotistical influence, yet to balance power is to walk the infinitely fine line between tyranny & collateral chaos. There is no benefit in becoming the problem save to be a scapegoat for the troubles of many.

Those cows need a bigger space to eat grass, cows also need salt and water.
The crops are allright but after harvesting, the ground can become useless for a while, so it's not exactly a good idea to plant everything at once in such a small area, depending on the crops you are planting that is.

I'm not that into agriculture to tell you, but corn should take care of the soil once you harvest something else.
Depends on the country and also since every fruit/vegetable has a growth time and a season, you need to plan out exactly what you expect to get and on what season.
Also you need by far more than just one cow if you pretend to live off the grid, and every cow should have one hectare to walk/eat.
Also make sure to have a bull, a dog (collies are great for this), and a horse.
Life in the farm is hard anon, if you really plan to do something like this, i would advise for you to live with someone that has been living on a farm for a while, it can be rough for city folk to get used to the farm life.
Also it gets seriously cold at night.

This (but then again 3d printed guns usually only last a few shots).

You could look at The Idahoan Show (he makes a simple gun using steel and simple tools)
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheIdahoanShow/videos

If you want to make a semi automatic a Metal Lathe and some blueprints for 1911 and some time you can probably create one yourself. Well you can make one without a Metal Lathe too by using files and time.

Main problem in the UK is probably getting ammo for any gun you make if you don't have a license. There is probably some trick to create your own ammo too (cartridges and primes is the biggest hurdle I would imagine). If you live by an shooting rage you can probably just go picking and get cartridges that way.

But in the end going sport-shooter or hunter route is perhaps the easiest way in the UK.

If you can give any basic info you think everyone should know, and also what medical equipment like medicine, bandages, turnicates and other things you think every medkit/backpack should contain would be helpful to know.

>i cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to clean and maintain a gun
Cleaning and maintaining a gun is fairly easy when you have done it a few times. Keep the parts lightly oiled (rub with a lightly oiled rag). The steps and where to apply oil depends on what type of firearm you have, but it is very rarely you have to fully strip a gun for cleaning. Mainly clean and lightly oil the main parts (simple strip down) and you should mostly be good.
Looking up a few videos on YT (or other video sites) on basic maintenance of the gun you have should give you the info needed to be set for the most part.
Granted it can be good to know how to fully strip a gun in case you need to do repairs, or do a full maintenance once every couple to ten thousand rounds.
For full strip having the correct tools, good screwdriver for weapon-smithing, pin punches, will save you a few headaches.
But all that being said I am by no stretch of the imagination an authority on gun maintenance, so getting info from other sources than me is something you should do. Videos online are often your friend in when it comes to this (until YT and others removes them all).

the thing is, its important to pack lightly (if venturing far on foot) doing this will lower the load, and your consumption of resources like water.

that being said, there are a few items that you absolutely need in a first aid kit. first and foremost, a water bottle. this is good for keeping dyhydration away, along with assisting treatment for heat exhaustion.
second, a bandana or some sort of sturdy nonessential cloth. though bandages may seem like a good idea in these cases, they are not good for holding things together. if someone in your party, or yourself, happen to dislocate a leg, or break an arm, a bandage will not be able to hold up the broken limb.
I also strongly recommend an instant cool pack, and instant warm pack. these will help for injuries. keep in mind that these can only be used once.
it is a good idea to pack ducttape. it is good for sealing large wounds, and can also be used to pull out bee stingers and cactus prickles.
a phone. you NEED a phone, of course optional though. if a situation is bad, it is advised to call for some help from a medical pro. these fixes are mostly temporary, and can only last for so long.
dryer lint (or belly button lint) this is a very good firestarter, and fires are important to treat hypothermia.
a multitool knife. needless to say, these are very usefull to tear off clothing if a situation gets so severe that it is nessecary, like in the case of burns.
