So, everyone and their dog fucking hates the 4channel split, so naturally we should do everything in our power to get people to migrate here. Here's my plan
>1. Remake every merge board here (except /vint/ and /fitlit/ since we already have /vx/ and /üb/
>2. Shill hard
>????
>Profit
Reasons for people to move here
>no ads
>based mods

Honestly, I'm happy with the current size of the board. Besides, our appeal is rather niche, and we've made our presence known before on 4/mlp/ and 4/pol/, so I think most of the anons who haven't come here yet don't have much interest in doing so short of 4chan conditions becoming unbearable.

Listen here faggot, that is not going to work. 4/pol/ and /mlp/ are already shit, but are any of their users coming here? No, they are not. If mlpol.net can't even get /mlpol/ active, how the hell will the rest of the site become active?

It won't. Instead there should be some joint mod-user plan to market and strengthen what is here already. Then expand. Unnecessary expansion kill things really effectively.

Anyone who was going to come here has already come here, anyone who remains on 4chan after this is going to take Hiro's cock in their ass like a good little beaten wife. Most'll move on to 8chan or other obscure chans, we'll probably pick up a few from /pol/ and /mlp/, but I very much doubt the rest of the refugees want anything to do with us. Though it might be worth putting a sticky on /qa/ and keeping a site announcement up directing refugees there to discuss the matter in depth and to gauge how many newfriends we'll pick up from this, then the mods will have a better idea of exactly how we should proceed.

I am one from /pol/ and I can tell this board lacks appeal just looking to the catalog's 3 upper rows.
The /mpl/ crowd is very energetic on their threads IMHO, but not the /pol/ guys, which I believe are roaming other chans for some fun that is missing here.
I remain here because I like ponies and the repellent effect of horse's pussy on our enemies.

I strongly agree with OP. MLPOL gives away so many opportunities to strike hot iron it is unbearably painful.

Ive been saying this for over a year now, MLPOL needs an official department of advertising manned by the mods. The current policy depends solely on them doing nothing and waiting for things to come. MLPOL gives away so many opportunities to strike hot iron it is painful. The dependency on luck, outside circumstances and shoving all responsibility for new user engagement towards the site userbase did not do us well.

Time to do actual work.

I fear I have to disagree, Vril. With power comes responsibility. You cant have one but not the other.

In any case, I have already developed a considerably disdain for the local mods. Whatever they do, they better do SOMETHING (and fast at that) before the activity degrades even more than it already has since last year. Numbers have sacked down to half or even a quarter since then.

So I will speak up here a bit. The lower post counts have been seen by me and I have put in initiatives to help remedy the issue. If you noticed new thread types have appeared on the board and new projects have been started on the board, those were created by me I have been spending a few months lurking other communities looking for ideas, people, and doing favors to help make new allies for mlpol.
You see that October bump that was heavily influenced by a few initiatives I pushed out, IRL I was preoccupied the months before and only able to watch but now that I have time I am back to work. When I do work with the community and push out an initiative broadside I don't use mod trips I post as an anon since I don't like having to mod trip unless absolutely needed like now. The other members of the mod teams also run initiatives and push out ideas to the community but we respect the ideals of mlpol and what we are founded on so because of that we don't use our trips unless it's official business.

>Whatever they do, they better do SOMETHING
if you have ideas please post them, I have been planning out a suggestion thread for after thanksgiving and I guess this can be the early version of that. I do push out stuff often and trust me not everything is a success, in the end if you have ideas tell them to us so we can try to push them out.

This. Moderators are obviously some of the most proactive wrt coming up with and developing functions and initiatives, but primarily mods are here to protect and maintain the board and not to guide the posters.
Additionally, I'll just come out and say it. Look at that chart. You see the numbers on the left?
Now go look in /vx/ and see what thread (technically a general) shows up consistently (insistently?) along the catalog, with post counts in the 1000's.
Tl;dr as OP of those threads, its not inaccurate to say that the post counts in that line-graph are artificially inflated, creating an inaccurate perception of declining participation on the board over time

In an ideal world the mods and the users would work in tangent to create the best chance of success. Users should lead the charge on most things, and the mods should be the highly dedicated users who have been entrusted with administrator access. What killed 4chan is mods losing touch with the users.

To pull from /fit/ will be tough since the overlap between /fit/ and /mlp/ historically is non existent. You see I have been jumping around different chan communities these past few months trying to find people and i have noticed a few trends. The first one is /k/ has a ton of horse fuckers in it like fuck that is where a ton of us went was there and /v/,/vg/ literally those who don't post on mlp anymore went there or /r9k/ but that one fell too hard. After jumping around a ton I have met a ton of former mlp fags since I always leave a symbol on stuff I work on for other communities (Luna's cutie mark) I use this similar to how the early Christians used the fish to signal to each other they were followers of Christ. With that symbol I have been able to run into a fuck ton of fallen members around the chans and in other communities from there I grab the ones I see fit of joining us and bring them over to us.
Currently I have a plan I am working on to begin attempting to grab /k/ fags since we have the best bet of gabbing them, we need guns, ponies, and political stuff it's why I put forth a few of the new projects is to prep the board to advertise to other communities since right now we would scare them away. We want to look our best for our new members and that is what I have been working on.

But we aren't a political board... we are a meme. And we look for meme-tier solutions.

>While the Hungarian-American might come off as full of doom and gloom in his interview, he actually has a reason to feel that way because Trump has single-handedly presided over the dismantlement of the Liberal-Globalist world order that Soros has worked for decades to build, destroying the old paradigm of Trans-Atlantic relations in a simple spree of tweets and presiding over the return of Christian morals, ethics, and values in American society, ideas that are absolutely anathema to the atheist billionaire.

You'll notice the graph entirely drops during the month of April. That's because of the death of roleplay on /vx/, which on its own was responsible for 40% of all posts on the website in late 2017 and early 2018. If it were only /mlpol/ you's see more seasonal posing, and you'd know that while posting is very low now, it was equally low last November.

No, that was me also. The post numbers on the site are pretty consistent, allowing for habbenings and school schedules and holidays, and the unique poster count has steadily increased from ~800 at the site's founding to just under 4k. I know, I know, that's not an exact number of posters, especially allowing for VPNs, but it still indicates a steady increase of participants, even if alot of them are mostly-lurkers.

Well Germany I did directly ask you for suggestions. So far your response has been bitching and complaining with no solutions or any real input besides being mad. Either give suggestions and present solutions on how to fix things, or shut the fuck up!
If you REALLY want to help use your Kraut abilities and assist /mino/ and help translate news for us to spread the truth. If you want to make this a political board MAKE IT ONE! If you want more users then help advertise, put forth an initiative, set up a project the staff will probably support it and help out just do SOMETHING besides whine like a bitch! At the end of the day you need to understand a simple thing mods are people with jobs and lives IRL, that do this FOR FREE! There is only SO much I can organize at a time and only so much I can think of at a time. So post suggestions, ideas, etc to make this place better and actually do something to make the place better or fuckoff back to reddit.

I'm not saying pull from 4/fit/, but at least put a redirect from mlp/fit/ to mlp/ub/. Unless you like 404 pages. It's just something helpful.

Is it really just me and lumberAnon that are /fit/ around here? Let me tell you, since I have gotten /fit/, I'm a fucking crackshot with a pistol. Last time I went to the range after nearly 8 years (thanks obama for the ammo shortage) I pulled the tightest grouping on the range by far with a subcompact glock (the one you can really only get two fingers on). Old guy next to me, you could tell he's at the range often, he wall pulling hard right and down, he asked if I was LEO, nope, haven't shot in probably 8 years. His jaw damn near hit the floor.

Moral of the story, having a gun is only half of it. Being /fit/ is the other half. And killing. Definitely killing. Three halfs.

Actually, if I might make a slight interjection, I feel like about half the problem here is that these conversations always seem to devolve into anons discussing what staff should be doing to make the site better. While the staff here does a fine job and is kind enough to run a lot of events for us, really I think spontaneous community projects are more in the original spirit of imageboard culture than a top-down culture where all projects are the brainchild of staff.

For instance, >>188936 wants to have a stream of early episodes. Okay, well, what's stopping you from hosting your own stream? It doesn't even have to be a regular thing, just start a thread saying "I'm showing a bunch of my favorite pony episodes today, who wants in?" and stream the episodes for whoever shows up. You could even announce it in advance so people can set aside for it, or create a regular channel that people can pop into whenever they get bored. One anon did his own stream yesterday, and while I regret I was out at the time it was happening and couldn't attend, it seemed like a success, and the kind of thing that could be successful if more of it is done in the future.

A community like this gets better when anons take initiative and create their own projects, rather than sitting around in meta threads bitching about how staff doesn't do this or that. Want to do a stream, do a stream. Want to post your fanfic, post your fanfic. Have an idea for an ambitious project that would require multiple anons involvement, start a thread and recruit people. Also, I think even for people who don't have as much creative drive or talent there are still things you can do. From what I understand, writefagging was a lot of the lifeblood of early /mlp/. Have an idea for a story you think would be cool but don't have the talent to write it? Start a thread with a prompt and see what happens.

I know we were founded in a spirit of having better quality content than 4/pol/ and 4/mlp/, but that shouldn't discourage people from posting threads when they have random thoughts or ideas. Have an idea, start a thread, the more impulsive it is the better. The community can evaluate which ideas are worth pursuing; absolute worst case scenario you get called a faggot by a bunch of strangers who don't know your name and your thread is deleted or falls off the catalog, nbd.

While it's great that we have a wonderful mod team here that communicates regularly with users and tries to accommodate whatever suggestions and or gripes the community makes, the success or failure of any subculture depends entirely on the willingness of the people involved to participate and make contributions. Literally everything of value that came out of 4chan, from /b/ to /pol/ to the Pony fandom itself, was the product of spontaneous user engagement in a particular subject, and the subsequent creation of content by individuals feeding off of each others creativity. It's the kind of thing that can only happen on an anonymous board where individual ego is completely removed from the equation. We talk about how much better things were when moot was around, but really all moot did was create a playground and give its users free reign to do as they pleased. Everything beautiful that 4chan ever made was the product of the users themselves, not the mods or the administration.

tl;dr, if you want to make /mlpol/, or imageboards in general, great again, it's up to (You) to do so.

1489163743898.jpg
Well, I knew this would come up eventually. No better time to begin the walls of text!

I'll start off by echoing the sentiments of >>188878 on the points of depending far too much on these three points (luck, circumstance and deference to the userbase), and the sentiments of >>188913 on the best success chances hinging on cooperation between mods and users. In fact, this kind of user-staff synchronicity has already been done before on the site, particularly many months back and especially when Atlas was still actively hanging around and participating. To an extent, this is still here, what with the local moderator's attempts to spark some threads up to increase participation.
I suppose I'll start with that point, as it's always struck me as an endearing trait of this site. The fact that the staff actively participate with the site's userbase - no, that the site are part of the userbase - is something I can never underestimate the importance and value of. I'll echo my sentiments from way back when: >>/go/3379
>I'm not sure how familiar you are with small businesses, and it may just be this way where I'm from, but in the ones I frequent, the managerial and senior staff actively participate and banter with the low-level employees, are highly friendly, and interact often with customers. It's friendly, it's courteous, but most importantly, it demonstrates genuine care for the people they serve and work with. It shows that they're right there with us, having the same discussions, making the same threads, all of that.
>This distinction is absolutely critical, and it is the only reason I place so much trust in the moderation staff: they are not some disconnected, separate class, as it is with most managerial and business systems, but they're right here with us, doing the same shit we do. Their Venn diagram overlap with us regular users is significant, if not total.
And just like back then, the instant the staff stop being active participants with us, and become a separate, disconnected ruling class, is the instant I'll jump ship and leave /mlpol/ to it's fate.
We shouldn't be discouraging this kind of sitewide cooperation, we should be thrilled about it. Yet despite that, as the local Kraut rightly points out, very little has actually come of this, and I'm completely with him when he says that it is an endless source of frustration. In fact, there have been points in the past where their lack of non-anonymous input has been more frustrating to me than even the worst kind of filtration and topic banning that the various /pol/'s have engaged in.
So our problem is multifaceted: we have staff that are both an integral part of and always looking to help their community, yet their efforts both rouse little user input, and their absent presence on such a tight-knit community causes frustration. However, this kind of staff-user marriage has worked before, especially early into the site's history.
With all that, and the amount of lurking I've done to flesh my views on this out, I believe I've determined some of the major problems that are inhibiting the site's growth and preventing the staff's efforts from bearing the fruit that they should. Input always appreciated, of course.

First, the site's staff lacks character.
I'm sorry to tell this to you guys, but Atlas was one of the big reasons the user-staff comingling worked so well. The guy was a total character, always managing to liven the threads up and encourage interaction, in spite of breaking the anon tradition very frequently.
You guys are good at keeping the site clear of outside influence, but you unfortunately can't rouse people quite like when he was still an active participant. Lotus in particular was a major administrative downgrade compared to Atlas, interacting nowhere near as frequently and definitely with far more distance than Atlas. The closest match to this kind of playful interaction I've seen was in Anon27 and Elway's hijinks, and even then I suspect that as being a limited-run affair, or the infrequency amounting to administrative hamstringing.
It's not that I don't understand or appreciate the efforts you all put in, but compared to what was there before, I have little choice but to find you all wanting. The worst part of this complaint is that there's very little you can do to fix this, outside of hoping and praying to find another staff member that is an engaging character for the site.

Secondly, the site's staff does not intervene nearly enough.
External threats are one thing, but resolving internal problems that arise in the community are a whole different matter. Now, I understand that intervening nearly everywhere would be overreaching on top of being presumptuous, and would almost assuredly result in the death of the community. I think 4chan's staff have been an ample lesson in that regard.
Actually, that's a pretty good summation of the whole problem. You're not like the 4chan staff. You're the polar opposite of the 4chan staff, and I don't mean that in an endearing way.
4chan staff always stuck their fingers into the community, fucking with the userbase they hated overseeing. Hell, /mlpol/ itself was born out of that kind of contempt. But this converse approach, never intervening out of a love for the community, is poison all unto itself.
Loving the users, I get. Never banning users, even lightly, for shitting up threads and derailing discussion? I don't get.
I also don't get the fear of posting with capcodes, especially when the precedent for their use was already set by Atlas.
There were so many instances of community cannibalism and poisoning that could have been resolved easily and amicably, if only the staff - the fellow users - would have put their power to good use and broke things up when they began to turn sour. And power abuse concerns are easily countenanced by sheer peer pressure from us and other staff.
We have a good system. Use it or lose it.

It's a good thing that >>188948 was made as I was writing this, as it ties into perhaps the single biggest problem with /mlpol/: the Achilles heel that the site had since the beginning. The problem that strong community and lively participation was handily able to make a non-issue, but with the participation drops over the months, has only made all the more apparent.
The single biggest problem that /mlpol/ has is very simple.

We have no vision.

Let me ask you a serious question. What is /mlpol/?
The answers are varied and complex, to be sure, but I'm confident I can distill most of them down to the points >>188834 makes. "We're not like those other chans!" "We have good mods!" "No shills, no frills!"
That's all well and good, but that's not what /mlpol/ is. That's what /mlpol/ has.
/pol/? That's easy. They talk politics.
/mlp/? That's easy. They talk poners.
/ck/? That's easy. They talk cooking.
/po/? That's easy. They talk paper.
/biz/? That's easy. They talk shekels.
/wsg/? That's easy. They talk WebM's.
/h/? That's easy. They talk hentai.
/v/? That's easy. They talk vidya.
/fit/? That's easy. They talk fitness.
/lgbt/? That's easy. They're faggots.
/d/? That's easy. They're faggots.
I could go on, but my meaning should be clear as crystal by now: every one of these entities has something at their core, something that moulds their discourse, drives their communities, and that everyone on those boards can revolve around. These entities are something. They all have a single, simple vision.
Now apply this same simple search to /mlpol/. Almost two years into it, and I have yet to possess a solid answer as to what exactly we are. I know what we have: a strong community, good mods, financial independence, a laid-back culture, and plentiful if sometimes forced memes. But what are we, really? What drives us forward? What's something we can all revolve around? What are our core ideals? What are we?
This kind of dilemma is strikingly similar to what was witnessed during 2015's US electoral extravaganza, in fact. Republicans, all centered around one guy with a clearly defined vision. Democrats, on the other hand? Their position was 'not bolan dumpf'. That's not a position. That's a reaction. And a reaction can only get you so far, and as we saw, doesn't pay the piper's due of results when things come down to the wire.

The simple truth of the matter is that /mlpol/ was always a reaction, and not a standalone entity. It has everything to become a standalone, visionary entity: all the things we have to be proud of! I thought after all this time, we'd discover our vision, our identity for ourselves with the power of communal will alone, but it's clear that this isn't how it's turned out.
We're still stuck in 2017's state of reaction against the shitlickers who created us, only to throw us to the wolves soon after. Yet they're still going strong. They can even shit on their userbase, like with the 4channel split, brag about it with glee on their IRC channels, and they still keep their users! We, on the other hand, don't have that kind of permanence. If the site were to die, right now, we wouldn't have much of a memorial going for us. Perhaps a simple "Oh yeah, I remember /mlpol/!" but nothing past that.
The energy of the reaction that created us has long since been running on fumes. Even if the site's finances are stabilized, the community certainly isn't. It's not very surprising that things have gotten volatile around here. It's not surprising that we aren't creating new content. It's not surprising that we aren't being the change we want to see. How could we? We have nothing to anchor us to, nothing to draw us in. Why do you think our lurkers don't ever participate? It all comes down to the same central problem. We have no vision.

This is the true killer of /mlpol/. And it's something that needs to be addressed right now, lest we fail to address it when, like in the losing party of that election cycle, it will matter the most, by which point it'll be far too late.
And in order to address it, we need to all come together for it. User and staff alike. I don't want to see those staff members holding out on their capcodes for this, I want them in on this as much as the rest of us are. They're too tightly integrated into the community for them to do anything less. I want our visions, if we have them, put onto the table for all to see. To be deliberated over, discussed, perhaps even improved or compromised on. Anything that will create a real, honest-to-God anchor that will finally create the gravitational pull we all want our comfy little home to have.

I have a pretty good idea for what my own vision for the site's future would be, but this text wall has gotten long enough as is, and this has been a long time coming. I'll get back to you all on what mine would be.
In the meantime, if you have a vision for the site's future, let it be known, so that we can all come to some kind of an agreement on what it should and should not be. But fair warning: keep it very simple, as in the above examples. If it's not able to be distilled to a single word or phrase, your vision is doomed from the start.

The truth of the matter is that there is a vision, but there is 3 separate ones that anons here make evident. Its time for a reality check on what type of community we are and I'll make it evident on what our vision is, even if we don't like it.

>/pol/ but with a pony filter
Keep shills away with pony porn while anons talk about politics. But it never has been and never will be. There is 2-5 threads about politics on the front page tops. That is it really, this isn't /pol/ or a better version of it, we are separate from it. Sure there always has political talks but it'll be rare and far between rather then the norm.

>/mlp/ but edgier
Well its getting closer but still no cigar. Episode threads get little to no love for a reason. Few here still watch it, and even though poners might be the more common reaction images around here and the clop threads might be up left they get maybe a bump a day just to keep it on the front page. But there is little art, few to no greens, and other then anonfilly no generals.

>[s4s] but /pol/ and /mlp/ themed
This is what this place always has been in my mind and what it was when it was still on 4chan. Created as an April fools joke, allows all the features of /pol/ and /mlp/ and on top of that beyond everyone's expectations just seemed to work. The most popular stuff on here and 4chan while it still lasted was, not politics, or poners but the communities getting to know each other in battle and then though talking about what they loved. Afterwords just shitting around making OC, and then where we are, doing little silly projects that everyone comes back for. There is a reason /vx/ was so popular when it had its goofy games, and why the 4CC is always getting so much traffic here. Its more or less what we are, an [s4s]. Its a tough pill to sallow, especially considering there are a lot who'd rather it be the former two, and since [s4s] really doesn't have a purpose other then irony and funposting.

You want a vision? I've got your vision right here, and you'd better eat it before it gets cold: The Denver Broncos.

Thousands of years ago, when the earth was void and without form, and the future empire known as Equestria was nothing but a cumstain on Celestia's crotchtits, a heavenly burst of Football did burst forth into Football, and the bursting was great, and made of Football, and Football did spread across the universe and become Football for all time. And then the things that were not Football slowly did transform themselves into Football, for they knew that were they not to become Football they would no longer be able to exist in a universe that was 100% Football.

From all across the land, ponies did load their helicopters with the things that were not Football, and did fly their helicopters to the ocean and deposit said things in said ocean, and there was Football for all time. Football.

My vision for the site's future...
Well, right now, we aren't sure where ponies should end and where politics should begin, or vice versa, but that isn't that big an issue.
Looking at the DBZ fandom, they talk about the show now and then, which came out decades ago. They talk about the new shit now and then, and argue over whether it's good or not. They love the DBFZ video game, and they love Dragon Ball Z Abridged.
And when one of them makes a fan-comic, even if it's absolute shit, a big chunk of the fandom looks at it and praises it/reviews it, and they have a good time. Some youtubers even go through the comics in their videos. When one of them makes fanart, fan music, fan remixes, they notice it and review it. Sure, their creativity can't hold a candle to what we were a few years ago, but they're still going and we... we're barely going at all. Name a MLP fan project that's still going. Hard mode: It has to be bigger than a thread or fanfic.
Look at the Ben 10 fandom. It was dying quietly for a long time, then some Youtuber came along and made a video on why Ben 10 could defeat pretty much any character, ever, because he wanted to promote his fan-comic continuation of Ben 10 and Danny Phantom. He provided a point for people to rally around and started a discussion on whether Ben 10 would REALLY stomp Goku and Superman or not. (He would, the omnitrix is stupidly OP). Now instead of turning his living chunk of the Ben 10 fanbase into his own fanbase, he's got fans making their own fan aliens, fan stories, fan stuff in general again, and he's got fans reviewing and interacting with the works of others. The Ben 10 fandom is alive and thriving again, small and happy with its size and content.
When some kid makes a really shit Dragon Ball fancomic or Ben 10 fan alien, nobody interacts with it. When someone tries to make a good one, whether it turns out great or mediocre (or even a steaming pile of shit that exists solely to suck Vegetto's balls), people interact with it and give the artist encouragement and feedback they can use to improve.
I don't think it's the creative spark in our fandom that went away, it was the fandom's respect for it.
Someone decided, somewhere down the line, that writers who write what they want to write are grossly offensive monsters for wasting the time of readers who just want to read more single-scene nonfics, more trashy porn stories, more pseudo-isekai prolefeed, more of the trendy clickbaity smirky snarky shallow makes-reader-feel-smart crap that gets featured. Someone decided, somewhere down the line, that FIM can do no wrong and anybody without a Big Name in this fandom can do no right. Someone decided, somewhere down the line, that the old fics are the only good ones and if a new fic is really great, it'll seek them out and show itself to them while they whine about how fics these days aren't what they want to see and attack people who write for fun. The MLPFIM fandom isn't as big as it used to be, but it's still acting like it's massive. It's still considering itself too big to thank the bus driver, so to speak. Sure, some fics are shit and we should criticize them, but there's a difference between criticizing a really bad fic with intent to help the author improve and trying to bully the author because that's your fetish.
Unironic cuteness and optimism was what made FIM special, but CONTENT CREATION is what made the FIM fandom special. And maybe also the charity stuff, but mostly content creation. In just two or three years, we'd made more fanfics than the Trekkies, more fanart than the Sonic fans, and more porn than the Pokemon fans combined.
This show was full of wonder and mystery, and the show just begged you to create content, especially content that answers questions. And while the show eventually answered these questions with unsatisfying answers, there are still AU and "What If?" fics that can give better answers to those questions.
We need to bring back that appreciation for creativity, because the only content creators still going right now are those who got a tiny self-sustaining personal fanbase over the years that gives them a reason to keep creating, even on slow days. And the ones who'll keep on quietly doing it for a few more years, because it's their hobby until they take up music, fishing, swimming, jogging, gaming, or any other hobby that's more rewarding and more fun.
Writing's fun. Drawing is fun. Singing is fun. But reading words of encouragement from fans who appreciate your hard work is a lovely feeling, and it's what makes content creators keep coming back instead of moving on a year after the bandwagoners did.
I don't know if we need a general for fanfics, a general for fancomics, and a general for PMVs and other FIM video content, or a dedicated slow board for the stuff, but we need something to try and recapture how magical it was when anyone thought they could get big, but everyone enjoyed content creation whether they were big or small.
I don't have all the answers, but that's my answer for what vision we should try and aim for: Content creation. And if anyone has any suggestions on how we could encourage that and help the site's members make better content, I'm all for it.
And on a less vision-related note, some FIM fans love what FIM used to be, some only love what FIM is now, and some love both new and old FIM. These groups don't have to fight, but they probably will, and it's fine when they do. But if they could be civil and constructive when they have disagreements, and put their plebbit derpireddit "You're a bad guy!" "No you're a bad guy!" "You're an austistic troll! "Oh yeah? Well you're an austistic retard!" "I'm laughing at you, so there!" "No, I'M laughing at YOU, so double there!" behaviour aside, that'd be lovely.
4chan's always been a place more mature than reddit.

I would like to respond back with Thank you for the feedback it does really help.

With your first point to be honest I never thought of it like that, me and the rest of the staff are actually still very active and post daily we just don't trip unless needed, at least I don't. I have put together stuff without caps often to sper conversation and posting since I want to be a part of the community vs a celebrity in the community. But I do see what you mean though you are saying we need someone like Snacks was where they had flaws and stuff but were memorable, lovable and a big part of the community. I do think we can have a middle ground though one where the staff does post with caps here and there, bants and hang with the community as both staff and anon. I will personally take your suggestion to heart with this one and post as mod more often to help others understand we are indeed here and still very active and a part of the community.

Second point we do intervene a ton trust me I do have to issue a ban every week roughly it's very common place here mostly outsiders posting shit to fuck with users and stuff. This part I speak from my experience and what i do but I check the reports every day multiple times a day to ensure I can keep up on that, along with that I use overboard and check all the recent posts to look for attacks, spam, etc and clean up what I find that needs to be removed. Now with bans we do issue a ton of them but most are only 3 day bans main reason being is we have a SHIT ton of VPN users and we don't want to ban all of their VPNs since most spam posts are a person on a VPN the idea is to ban that VPN they are using that day so they can't post again then have the ban runout so a real user can use that VPN in the future. As for your comment on issues that has come up in the past I know what you are referencing and know the staff was not just watching we were in the background with both parties attempting to fix the issue. I do feel the issue was handled poorly in my opinion but I was told to not get involved. Now as for the not intervene there have been many situations we do intervene to stop, prevent, or calm an issue I personally have stepped into many of these situations but most of the time I resolve them in the background by reaching out to the parties directly on discord. Main reason for this is I find that trying to resolve the issues on the board through posts can get a bit on the messy side and no one likes dirty laundry in the open. It's one of those ones where yes we are here but we are like silent guardians among the other anons that only act when needed. But know when it comes to protecting the community and taking care of mlpol this is coming from me personally I do all I can. mlpol means a lot to me it is a huge part of my life and really reshaped me as a person and I want to do all I can to protect it, guide it and ensure it survives.

I will make another post responding to your comment on Vision. Need to formulate a good response. THank you though for this genuine feedback and know that I will be putting your suggestions into play. But at the same time know that we as a staff are still here, we still love this place, we still care about it, you guys, and the future of this community we just don't show our badges much.

Also, I would just like to put it out there that the staff here are and continue to be active participants in the site. Most of us post anonymously the vast majority of the time.

Speaking entirely for myself, I will say that I have contributed a lot, and I mean a LOT, of content to this place, the vast majority of which is uncredited or credited to a trip/pseudonym, because that is how anonymous boards are supposed to work. When I capcode it's usually in character, and I have a lot of fun doing the Denver Broncos stuff, but I feel like the shtick would get old and annoying if I was constantly modfagging with it all over the place.

I appreciate what you're saying, and we can try to be more visible if you would like, but I do want to clarify that site staff are not just some circlejerk happening in the background. We're out here shitposting with the rest of you.

My personal feeling is that /mlpol/ should stop spending so much time worrying about who or what it is, or how to suck more users into our vortex of autism, and just focus on doing stuff and making stuff and having a grand old time like we did in the beginning. Think about it: this silly meta thread has probably been the most active thread of the day. Every post here is a post that could have been made in a thread that's actually about something.

Not tryna hate tho.

There is nothing more serious than Football. And do you know what goes well with Football? Of course, it's the Denver Broncos.

Fun fact, there are several bronco-posters on the board, its not just John Elway, who is 100% Football and Americans better than all of us, but just because we're not John Elway (cuz then we would be 100% Football) we're still Denver Broncos, who are collectively 100% Football and can American almost as well as John Elway, who is Football forevermore. Praise Football.

I'm glad you brought this up. Early into Mlpol I made a similar thread challenging anons to realize what Mlpol's vision was and work accordingly. Unfortunately my posting style is kinda cringe and the thread didn't take. I'll tell you what the vision of Mlpol is:
A site born of having suffered the worst aspects of 4chan, particularly those leveled against /pol/ and /mlp/, that will forevermore be guarded against shills and bots and detractors, never to be afflicted with advertisements, spyware, or datamining, where those who wish to can discuss (almost) whatever the fuck they want.

True. Nobody needs me to point out the difference between AVGN criticizing a shit game hilariously and a handful of vocal (((minorities))) who love CinemaSins for some reason trying to paint simple writing mistakes most beginners make as some kind of unforgiveable sin, right?
>the ensuing drama was fun
Do you mean when where someone with way too much gay porn on his hard drive uses paint to edit an OC's face onto the men, or when former-vril-flagged german-flagged redditor Hclegend screams "IT'S FUCKING NIGEL THE SARGONIGEL!", hoping if he does it enough and screams it in enough threads, it'll catch on and people besides his two discord friends will join in this time?
The only good content that came from that thread was that one reviewer who went through the Silver fic. He's unironically brilliant. He's a riot, he should contribute to the site more and use his "AVGN except he says gay penis shit instead of shit and ass" persona to regularly review more fics. I nominate Past Sins, the entirety of Fallout Equestria, and Project Horizons up to the legs chapter for things he should review.

Advertising on other wesbites has been discussed repeatedly. In April we sent an ad request to Derpibooru and actually had it display for a period of less than a day before it was taken down. A few days later we received a response from Derpibooru saying they don't allow any advertisements of a political nature. I believe we sent out requests to 8chan but I don't know what came of that. I had plans to make a youtube video advertisement but we didn't make that. The general hiccup with advertisement has been that the various parts of the authority to do it have been scattered across several members of staff. Atlas would reach out to websites, as the owner of the website, Pupperwoff would have payment information, and so on. This became very difficult as Atlas became more distant.

Having said that, this thread has inspired me. Another mod has told me that I apparently have authority to buy ads. I don't know if it is true, but I am running with it, so I sent an email to 8chan, and intend to use banner images created long ago for this purpose as ads on 8chan.

>>188882
As I have said before, the posting rate drops off in late April of 2014 because of the death of roleplay on /vx/. When that was broken up and scattered to the wind, so went at least 40% of the posts on the website. When you look at /mlpol/ posting, you'll see that it is more seasonal, picking up to above 300 a day during holidays, and dropping to as low as 150 during late school semesters. Posting rate is approximately similar to what it was this time last year, though slightly faster this last week.

>>188894

Hi. I guess I am going to have to spend some time with this post

> Lotus in particular was a major administrative downgrade compared to Atlas, interacting nowhere near as frequently and definitely with far more distance than Atlas
I'm flattered. Please forgive me if, while you all have been bitching, I made a thread, posted as an anon, and sent an email to 8chan about advertising rather than posting in trips.

>I also don't get the fear of posting with capcodes, especially when the precedent for their use was already set by Atlas
I think what you are picking up on has been a tendency of staff to post anonymously except when conducting official business. This part of staff culture was enshrined in the May and June of 2017 when a policy was set that moderators should not post with names. This policy has since been repealed, and the turnover for the staff is such that the people propounding this system are gone and half the staff is new since then, but the behavior has stuck. The idea is that staff-user interaction should be "Professional." Practically speaking, this means being stand-offish and posting anonymously rather than as staff when we say things. I never said it was good, and I opposed the policy that started the habit when it was implemented, but that is the habit.

>Staff does not intervene nearly enough
My ideal of an imageboard is that the posters are free to post more or less what they want, and staff are there to protect posters mostly from posters external to the community who act only to disrupt the community on the board. Sue me. And yes, we do delete posts when people start shit, we just don't delete every post, and you probably also don't even notice the deletions because, well, they are removed from the board.

For example, this asshole's post >>188851 was deleted because, even though it was by a regular user, it was nothing better than the "die barneyfags" posts we see from that Canadian NEETbot on 4chan.

>>188956
My vision for /mlpol/ has always been Nationalist and Rightwing political discussion with a hell of lot of my little pony images and some Pony OC. Against this vision I have opposed a sort of multi-cultural chan empire approach that has been proposed by three seperate members of staff. And you are allowed to want what you want for the site, but I know what I want and what I do not want.

I want to throw my hat into the ring for a vision for /mlpol/, or at least what I think would be a good direction.

Random /new/ and ponies.

Once upon a time I went to 4/pol/ to get my news. 4/pol/ was filled with discussion on conspiracies, political stances and cancer, but the board was loaded with happenings. In fact, 4/pol/ sometimes had a thread up on something before the mass media made a report. The focus on news comes from 4/pol/'s heritage, being the news board before it was cancer containment. It is where I used to go for current events before the flood of newfags and reddit.

/mlp/ has a strong history of randomness and spontaneity. People actively did things and pushed out ideas at an alarming rate. mlp as a whole was also very much hated, and that hatred acted like fertilizer on a weed: it grew. Then the mods scruffed the board, and the show effectively died. Now that place is a shell of what once was great.

/mlpol/ should focus on filling both at once, and taking it a step further. News happens daily and is almost always political, if you see something archive it and post it here. mlp is dead, but there is some potential in the Aryanne memes and the assorted cast of characters. There also might be some veins of gold the the original mlp may have missed. Have an idea, even a bad idea, post it. Pushing further, post random. Make it related to politics or ponies, but just post it. If it is not related to either go to /sp/. Random is how new content spawns. The culture here is to be polite, but we need more content. Fuck other people. Post damn it.

In a way, Nigel is the ideal /mlpol/ user. He is an autistic and talentless hack, but he posts anyway. 98% of his threads are garbage, 1% of them are only ok, but that last 1% if them are diamonds. /mlpol/ will be good if there is something here. Build it and they will come. People came here after the last 4chan fuck up, but what did they have when they came here? Slowness. Unironically be like Nigel and post! Even if it is shit, then you will be informed on how to get good.

Another thing going for /mlpol/ is that it is the combination of two of the most hated things in the world: right-wing politics and ponies. If /mlpol/ can hit the right wind current, /mlpol/ will start to sail at rapid speed. Rule 19: The more you hate it, the stronger it gets.

If he was at least funny I could at least enjoy his antics like a comedy skit, but he is not funny. Being funny requires intelligence. He is an annoyance, and deserves banning on site. The reason is pretty simple. These are IPs used by raiders that have no business being on the board at all. And I can see that it does reduce the number of IP's they can use to spam. Zald in particular will try to post but find that his proxy was banned 6 months before, or he will use an IP that has a note on it from 9 months ago, but was never banned. While Zald's posts have been blocked by permabans, I have never seen an instance where a Zald ban resulted in someone being denied a proxy they want to use (who wasn't Zald). With the script kiddies there was one occasion where a proxy a staff member wanted to use was banned, and that resulted in 400 bans being undone. But by and large the bans haven't inhibited posting. If they do, file a ban appeal so we can undo the ban.

Of course, the main reason we use permanent bans rather than definite periods of time is far simpler. When you leave the ban field blank on the ban page, it results in a permaban. You specifically have to type out "30 days" or whatever if you want to give a ban of a length of definite time. That might sound like laziness, but when script kiddies attack, they send hundreds of posts from dozens of IPs so quickly that it either does or almost does DDOS the website. Besides that, when you are moderating from your phone while at work, in class, or sitting down at a restaurant with a friend you really shouldn't be on the website in the first place and you don't have the time to type out ban lengths. It takes two clicks to make a permanent ban and that short length of time is often all you have.

the community is fine as it is why do you need more people?
the place isn't prepared to be an actual community motivated board anymore and all its attempts to grow never existed in the first place during the important opening moves

opportunism capitalised, but only to the smallest degree, how fucking stupid, thats why this place is dying

and no, there's no way to 'fix' it because opportunism is a core component of easy success
and there's nobody around with the agency to accomplish 'hard success' haha

This guy gets it. 4chan and mods have left the gates open to all sorts of Reddit, normie, shills, and undesirables for far too long. Just because anon posts on 4 or more-chan doesn't mean they're redpilled or even willing to become redpilled. There are plenty of anons who don't have any intention to interact/participate, and just want to be entertained or to snatch-and-grab memes, and who won't respect the developing board culture. Mlpol has a high ratio of professional, socio-economically sound anons who don't have the luxury of spending all day browsing the board. The slower pace and quality of the board enable them to participate fully when they can, instead of leaving them wondering what they missed while they were (I know it may sound weird) busy having a life.

While I know the issue of why most bans are perma-bans has been addressed to the satisfaction of the anon that raised the issue, I would like to mention what I found.

Today Zald posted some stupid undertale thread from an IP address that had been given a two week ban for "shitposting" and all posts deleted back in the May or June of 2017, and by a moderator who hasn't been on staff for a year and half now.

I highly doubt that you'll grab anyone with fishing in /pol/. Regardless of if it's banned for advertisement everyone knows about 8chan and 8/pol/ is the go-to for if 4cucks decides to start deleting threads. Case in point, they hit 8+ threads of 750 bumps so they're not going anywhere near here. You'll get an aversion from ponies if you post on either but 8/pol/ was kiked up with becoming a globalized board. This means though that you could fish for /pol/acks on 8chan without getting banned for being a degenerate if you wanted.

>>188998
I don't really have much faith in ads but you do you. Personally, I think the ones you'd want already have adblock enabled so you wouldn't reach anyone except idiots. Instead of ads, I'd say branding is more powerful, stuff you can share around is the best route. If you want to get on /pol/s good side then make more political oc. I turned around an admin on 3chan from banning all pony posters just by posting the classic oc with twilight with saying hitler 'made a silly mistake for his friends', and then making more humorous oc showing that I wanted to be part of their community, not just raid them for lulz and screeching, which was admittedly fun too.

>>188954
From my perspective the polar opposite and nearly total hands off moderation, but policing threads and content would be /pone/ and it's definitely largely killed off the board. I think this place is doing much better off board wise and community wise and hope it gets better. There does need to be some sort of measurement of when to draw the line though, but /mlpol/ is doing a pretty good job so far keeping reddit, normalfags and shills out so can't complain.

>>188963
For the love of christ Nigel learn how to chunk information in your posts. Every time you post something massive with ungodly formatting everyone's eyes glazes over.

Onto your point at the bottom,
Content creation is definitely the major appeal to MLP and /mlp/ over this board. Even if you took out the generals out of the equation which people sneer at. Using the drawfag thread as an example, on /mlp/ there's 'ponify this' requests nonstop which can lead to lulz, but also requests with canon characters doing xyz lewd or otherwise and even someones oc thrown in from time to time. But on /mlpol/ all the drawfag thread is basically just one flavor of requests or deliveries being political ponies, like Leslie and while it's great for /mlpol/ exclusive OC content it really loses the appeal of a more general drawthread pretty fast so there's not much reason to use it often, which shows due to the very slow moving thread.

Well shit, didn't expect to take this long to get around to the whole vision thing again. Apologies in advance for a non-timely response. Now, while I do have a more realized idea for my own vision of the site, I'm a little out of it and slightly drunk to properly formulate what exactly that would be, so I'll do my best to respond to the responses of others in regards to their own visions.

>>188959
>3 separate visions
I hadn't considered it at the time of writing my first post, but it may be possible that what I saw as a complete lack of vision may in fact have been multiple different visions pulling at one another, vying for dominance. With everything left to lacking communication, easily missable subtext, and the whims of random happenstance, this might just be the source of the community volatility I described. I suppose that makes it all the more important to get the central vision of the site sorted out, or at the very least to have them coexist in a more amicable manner.
But in answer to your actual list of visions, I do agree with your first one that we are very much separate from most /pol/ incarnations, and the second one on us being close but still removed from /mlp/. To be honest, I think chasing after the board's genetic parents is the wrong move to make: forging ahead with our own path should be the priority. In that regard, I agree the most with your third vision: I'd honestly forgotten a lot of the original /mlpol/'s history, but corroborating it with the archives shows this one to be fairly spot-on to what it originally was. Your points on the popularity of the 4CC threads lend some weight to this as well. Maybe when I'm in better command of my faculties, I'll dig into that more in my future post on my own vision.

>>188962
o7

>>188963
It's true that content creation is fun - I can attest to this myself - but it always comes down to the question of finding the metaphorical farmland within which to create. Spontaneity, like that in old-/mlp/, was a big driving factor for that, but it's really dried up in recent years, especially after the S9/S10 leaks dropped. Here, the spontaneity is dropped for a different reason: an unspoken demand of higher quality posts. It creates quite a barrier to entry for most aspiring contributors. Perhaps we need to remove the stick from our collective rectums to better facilitate this uptick of OC?

>>188979
>We have /sp/ for funposting.
Doesn't work in practice. Shit is only shit when juxtaposed against something not shit. I think what you're getting at, if I may be so bold and foolish as to make an assumption in this regard, is that anything goes on /sp/. But as H.G. Wells once put it, "If anything is possible, then nothing is interesting". Pushing the envelope on /mlpol/ itself, preferably without cannibalizing it's community, would be a better investment.

>>188986
Don't remember that thread, but I see what you're saying. What you're describing is pretty similar to what my view of /mlpol/ is, at least in part, but it seems to fall more under the umbrella of what /mlpol/ has (in particular the part about being guarded against datamining, shills, bots, et. al), instead of what it is.

>>188998
It seems your vision of the site is /pol/ with ponies, as was described above. I'm not too sure what you mean by "multi-cultural chan empire approach" however. Would you care to elaborate?
There's more I want to respond to in this post, but I'm keeping this post strictly to responding to the visions of others, so that'll have to come later.

>>189002
News threads, from my experiences, don't attract a whole lot of attention and replies. I totally agree that they're a big part of the site, and I use them to keep updated myself, but - and forgive me for saying this - most of the posters don't make that much of an active effort to engage the users with their postings, preferring instead to copypaste articles and drop a link at the bottom. There's not much inherently wrong with that, but it leaves a lot to be desired for engagement. Asking questions, following up with the threads in question, all of that could draw out some real engagement. I've noticed that we have a bad habit of being rather fickle with our replies, probably thanks to our slow post rate and 15-page catalog, which tends to feed into this stagnation a fair bit. That may just be pure projection on my part, however.
You seem to have the right idea of posting random things to spur on participation, however. But as I've said above, relegating that spontaneity to /sp/ is a death sentence. Pushing /mlpol/'s limits itself should be the focus.
I also completely agree on /mlpol/ catching the wind in it's sails at the right time, though not strictly limited to ponies and politics. Perhaps a new TV show that suffers a similar fate to what MLP:FiM of old did, but instead of it's cancer forcing a new board to be created, we swoop in and steal that fledgling userbase for ourselves? I'm fairly certain I made a post about that in another thread, but fuck if I can find it in the archive right now.

Alright, I think I've gone over everything I wanted to right now. Sweet slumber, take me away.

Personally I think that there is infiltration from GOVS. The UK government just handed 2 milllion pounds to a company to combat and go to inforwarz with the russians. I am sure they also included chans et al as legit targets. The FCO also gives a tonne of money to the BBC for overseas propaganda without it being stiupulated where and who is using the money. I have my own projects so I don`t really spend much time in these online communities anymore but I do notice on 4chan BBC links rank high and wonder why anyone with any decency would do such a thing if they were truly a friend. Having pointed that out the links provided were then disguised but still ended up at the BBC news site.

My paranoid advice is not to engage outside of this small comminity because by doing so you target yourself for gov scrutiny and they play a long and very sophisticated game. They will allow you to exist but as castrarti. You voice will be heard loud and clear and be loved by kiddy fidlers but your message will be entertainment only.

Stick to lovely colourful cartoon horse porn and leave the fighting to those who proffer themselves at every stage to anal leakage.

Tumblr shot themselves in the foot really hard. I wonder what they were thinking. There is so many sites that are doing their damnedest to drive away their userbase (among them YT, FB, Tumblr, 4chan, etc.).

Interesting. I wonder what would happen if we attempted to raid another board say /qa/ or /jp/ what the mods would do.

Great a new writefag buddy! Great to have you. Feel free to check by this thread, >>189681 →. It looks dead right now and it totally is. But not because there aren't people interested in it as you can clearly see by noting the number of anons who have posted on it. Also, one never knows how many lurkers there are.
I have some posts that I intend to add to it with but I haven't gotten around to do so.
If you have a paste bin then please do post it in the thread it would be fun.

It used to be at least that every new chan started its own /b/ and none really gained any traction. On the other hand 4/b/ seems to be just porn dumps now so maybe.

/Sp/ isn't random and self cleaning enough to serve as a central hub. /b/ is supposed to delete everything after the 10th page, and virtually any and all topics go there. Though it has degraded into a porn dump, the mechanics give it a great deal of attraction.

>We have no vision.
We are the bridge between two worlds that mostly have no reason to interact with each other.
Mix these two and you get something very weird, in my opinion, the idea of mlpol is to turn its users into the best version of themselves.
One of the biggest selling points of mlpol is the ability to reduce the impact of the blackpill by introducing cute poners to the formula, while one of the selling points of /pol/ is it’s nature as a hurtbox.
When you add ponies to a hurtbox, you take out all the rough edges that bring-in new users, but at the same time you are attracting old /pol/acks that are just too blackpilled to care.
Of course we have a tiny userbase, for someone to join mlpol, the person should be mature enough to discuss politics, blackpilled enough for ponies to take effect and at the same time being understanding enough/open minded to not mind threads that unironically post pony porn.

Mlpol emerged from chaos, and it is not in peace that it will grow, not without changing.

>How do we get popular
Well, I say we all just keep posting and producing content, like memes somewhere along the way someone will have a good idea, beating your head against the keyboard reeeing because mlpol is slow only gives the site a bad name, as if we are desperate or something.
Just chill anon.

Also drama brings a lot of posting and attention, but i doubt that would help us grow. If you want drama just advertise on kiwifarms.
