There have been complaints lately of a lack of direction for the board. We may be too caught up in current politics and, as MLP is in (sadly) terminal decline, our former optimism has dwindled. Why not discuss more of the arts, our cultural heritage of which ignorance is lamentable? Let us broaden our horizons.

Reasons to watch classic movies:
–Acting was based on talent rather than diversity
–Traditional values openly celebrated
–Healthy families portrayed
–No gratuitous violence, sex, and nudity
–Cheery movies, unlike those in the modern era, weren't totally braindead and marketed to imbeciles
–Children were able to watch most life-action films
–Religion and prayer were portrayed as beneficial and normal
–Heroes generally were positive role-models
–Comedy consisted of wit, clever situations and light-hearted slapstick, not base trash
–Special effects were done through cleverness and talent without relying on flashy CGI
–Like in MLP, musical numbers were a staple and performed without undue self-consciousness
–Much less political correctness and history was often portrayed true to life
–Focus on dialogue and characterization rather than mindless action that appeals to man-children

I had grown up watching old movies on DVD, as my father was rightly disdainful of modern Hollywood. I did not understand it in my naive youth, but he was completely right. If you try to find any moral or intellectual value out of that den of scum and villainy, your search is fruitless, for nowhere else is so tightly held by the (((enemy))). The Griffons were always in Hollywood, of course, but they had less control back then and the moral degradation of our society had barely started. The old classic motion pictures are now windows back in time to when men were men, women were women, and children could be children. Their legacy is part of the expansive cultural tradition that we defend.

To me, films like Mary Poppins, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Sound of Music, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are most memorable for the same reasons that we love ponies. They have beautiful morals, well-written characters, and beautiful songs. Some examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbX3ZSr43KA, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2pt2-F2j2g, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHrRxQVUFN4, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB2yiIoEtXw, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps52qEFiLbg

Please share and discuss your favorite movies! If you haven't been watching any movies produced before 1970, you've been missing out. Go ahead and brighten your life.

My Dad had an old Betamax player and a huge box full of old classic movies he'd taped off of TV during the 80s, so I grew up watching a lot of that kind of stuff. There are a lot of high quality films from previous eras out there that are well worth getting into, I think this is a productive area of discussion for us.

Just out of curiosity, if I were interested in hosting a weekly or bi-weekly classic movie stream, how many people would be interested in attending? I know we have a lot of weekly streams going as it is and I don't want to oversaturate the community, but I think it would be a fun project if people are into the idea. For anyone interested, what would be a good day? Would one movie per week suffice or maybe do a double feature every couple of weeks? What sorts of films would people like to see?

It's eerie how much our media changed in the 1960s. Specifically, before JFK and after JFK.
Take for example, movies/shows portraying life in an American city, say Chicago.

The streets are clean. There's no multiculturalism. People were Johnny, Jack, Tommy, Jane, Ruth, Becky. There was no Jamal, Achmed, Ivan, Shaniqua. Women were modest. There were no whores/prostitutes. Crime didn't even exist, unless it was part of a plot. Religion and traditional values were the norm. Nuclear families were everywhere. Sexual tension wasn't even present.

Then you look at movies/shows after JFK's assassination, and the sudden change is shocking, and scary.
The streets are dirty. Multicultural cities. Achmed, Pajeet, Jamal, Ling, Carlos. Sluts everywhere, wearing clothes that 1950s women would be embarrassed to wear in bed. Crime is rampant. Religion and traditional values are out of the window. Broken families are everywhere. Sexual tension in every movie.

It's like we were plopped into Hell.

The Princess Bride is the fucking shit man. If that movie ever leaves the cultural consciousness the world would be darker than Argentina.

Does not matter if the show dies, remember season 1, when nightmare moon destroyed the elements of harmony? Remember what twilight did when that happened?

In this situation we are the mane6(gorillion) the show are the elements and Hasbro is nightmare moon.

Ever seen Mr. Smith Goes to Washington? It was a brilliant movie for the time that did not hold back from showing the corruption pervasive in DC and how reformers get thrown under the wheels. It's a must-see.
