This timeline is really strange to me. Who would guess after all the French vs German warfare over the decades, they would team up under socialist trash policy? Stay strong Poland. We believe in you.
You're quoting the media, and they've got it all wrong. This has very little to do with the immigration quotas.
1. Poland had a big problem with corrupt judges
2. Poland's legislative branch decides to take action. Using the only tools they've got, they try to have the corrupt judges replaced.
3. Legislative branch is not supposed to do this in EU law, but EU law is written in brussles where this kind of corruption is unthinkable.
4. After whining for a while and not listening to Poland's side of the story, refusing to acknowledge the problem at all, they invoke the first grace period of article 7.
5. Because Poland didn't back down and the first grace period has ended today, the second grace period is now in effect. The EU makes a recommended course of action, with nothing but implied threat.
6. If Poland refuses to follow the course of action, the EU will probably wimp down on the threat, putting some mild economic sanctions in place that hurt the EU more than Poland. They don't want their precious union to fall apart, after all.

Our current government is only gaining every time EU do anything against us.
Even if they are somewhat repsonsible, if EU do anything they can create giant shitstorm because while before elections most of our private media + state media were pro EU and pro German, PiS took over state media so they now are loud enough to create political atmosphere that they want.
No one is really predicting that EU do something rash against us, they can't really do more than just some fuss about that and maybe take away some of their monies, but not too much because while there is strong anti-EU sentiment now thanks to refugees not sane government would pull us out because of gibs. Our economy would slow down a lot and no one wants it.
And those in Brussel knows it so they can't really take too much from us without risking something big.
