We all know the situation of our world but how many know of the Doomsday clock?

The Doomsday clock is a graphic representation the likeliness of an end of the world scenario caused by nuclear warfare, it has been developed and maintained by the bulletin of atomic scientists, a project funded by former scientists of the Manhattan project.

The graphic, depicted in pic related is literally a clock counting from 9 to midnight, being 9 the farthest we are from a nuclear apocalipsis and midnight being seconds from a happening.
The highest point the clock has ever reached since it's first publication in 1947 was at the year of 1953 a year in which the USA and the URSS took part in a heavy political conflict leading to an arms race to develop an effective thermonuclear device, a time in which the clock reached 23:58, two minutes for midnight.

We are now at 23:57:30, two and a half minutes until midnight, the closest to blowing ourselves out since 1953.

We are really close to and end of the world scenario, at least that it's what scientists predict.

Are you ready for the ride?

No we're not. Those scientists are full of shit. The US has no reason to use nuked. The Chinese profit too much from the world to nuke it. The Russian nuclear arsenal is rusting out. The Norkies will not use nukes as a US first strike would knock them out. Pakistan and India hate each other, and would only nuke each other not the world. Iran is a question mark, but they seem more engaged in proxy wars than anything else. The rest are either American allies or interests that would follow America's lead. WAR is likely right now, but nuclear escalation is unlikely.

This. Nukes are only for deterrence because everyone knows that using them is Mutually Assured Destruction. Nobody would use them unless they want to vaporize the entire northern hemisphere.

One can dream of the world ending, indeed it is really unlikely that someone is stupid enough to destroy the entire world just like that.
That is if we suppose everyone with access to these things is a sane, rational person, there is no way to actually calculate power falling into wrong hands

Yes, this is something unrelated.

The (((Doomsday Clock))) is just a propaganda tool that stirs the Regressive Cult of Science into a frenzy.

About this clock: There is no formal method for determining the time. It's literally a bunch of guys and when two political figures exchange some light verbal jabs they get on the phone to talk about how scared they are.

They may be or have been atomic scientists, but this doomsday clock is only tangently related to atomic science. There is no science to see here, and all they are doing is literally telling you how scared you should be.

So with this update, it seems they're telling us to be roughly as scared now as when the US and CCCP were actively playing with their toys? Trump and some steward of half a backwater peninsula are honest about not liking eachother instead of sitting through increasingly frustrating relationship therapy sessions, so we're definitely all going to die soon now.

Tangent: Why are science and universities so full of hippies again?

This. Unironically this. There is no objective scientifically valid metric for how close we are to getting fucked. It's literally just a propaganda tool (((THEY))) use to tell us how scared of potential doom we all "Should" be right now.

It's kinda sad that V For Vendetta assumed it would be something dignified keeping humanity's future sheeple in check, like a radio show host on fucking BBC claiming to be the voice of an all-knowing supercomputer.

If you don't know about the clock you're not educated
If you don't accept the timing you're not highly educated
If you don't question the timing on the clock due to the political and social biases of the (((scientists))) who tend to it you're not trancended

"Two and a half minutes" doesn't have a good ring to it at all, what a fucking disappointment this has turned out to be.

Where were they during Obama's lame-duck session and there were accusations being thrown around that Russia had hacked the elections? I was genuinely afraid that WW3 could break out any minute because the (((elites))) would rather everything burn than to lose control. Thankfully that hasn't happened and we've been safer under Trump than for the past eight years.

I enjoy the concept of a clock that could tell of an impending nuclear holocaust, but this clock seems to be influenced by (((them))).

There was a period around October last year when I was confident that Trump was likely to win that I was desperately afraid that the powers that be would freak out and flip the table to call off the election. I was expecting some sort of emergency wartime powers deal or for the opening nuke to take out candidate Trump. In hindsight I think that Hillary and friends drank their own Kool-aid and were caught by surprise when Trump won.

At this point, with Trump in the oval office, I believe that a WWIII scenario would give Trump too much power to work against them. That helps me sleep at night.

Also, Kim Jong un isn't stupid. His country is small and doesn't have much influence on the world stage. The threats that he makes are a way to maintain relevancy to the world at large. He's essentially fishing for (you)'s with acts that will give him guaranteed replies. It's negative attention, but you can work with that. You can leverage negative attention to your benefit. But you can't work with falling into obscurity and becoming a litterally who nation that is ignored. The threat of war gives him power to work with. On the other hand, actually following through with an act of war is a guaranteed way for him to lose power since only our rules of engagement stand between him and the armies of the US and her allies. Any act of war carried out by North Korea should be viewed with extreme criticism lest it be a false flag designed to justify a war.
