Next time I am in Daiso I have a look but wonder what is so special about horse oil. Horse for eating is more expensive than the standard beef but tastes the same. All I can imagine is its oil would be of similar quality and who rubs their face in beef fat.

Don't worry, "horse oil" is actually kind of a misleading name, as it's actually made from whale oil.

Yeah of course. It is made of horse.
If it was made of whale it would say so in Japan. Whale fat is actually incredibly good for skin and was at one point the base fat for marg. The trouble was too many Americans liked the marg and over fished the seas and then did what they always do and blamed some small country for their own transgressions. Then the bribed a few African nations to vote for anti-whaling.
Plus whale meat is cheaper than horse meat in the supermarkets. The cheapest meat being the beef from the US with its hor-moan-all the time bloating.
