>"Popular children’s cartoon character Peppa Pig has been blocked from an online video channel in China after becoming associated with a “gangster” subculture.

>"The censorship came after Peppa’s likeness became popular with a subculture of internet users known as "shehuiren" or “society people - a group who some say hold “anti-establishment views” and “gangster” attitudes.

>"Users have reportedly been using the character in subversive memes, spoof videos or in the context of ‘vulgar’ or lewd jokes.

>"The Global Times explained said “society people” who have embraced Peppa as their unlikely symbol, are those “who run counter to the mainstream value and are usually poorly educated with no stable job.”

>“They are unruly slackers roaming around and the antithesis of the young generation the (ruling Communist) Party tries to cultivate."

>"Winnie the Pooh was previously blocked by censors, after the tubby bear was compared by internet users to President Xi Jinping.

>"One particular image that was blocked as part of the crackdown showed the bear hugging a jar of honey beside the quote, "find the thing you love and stick with it."

>"The image was widely shared after the government removed the two-term limit on the presidency, potentially allowing Mr Xi to remain in charge indefinitely. "

I've never liked Peppa Pig but it's apparently the most popular kids' cartoon for children whose parents are too lazy to find quality entertainment like MLP.

This global autism is hilarious. Should Nazi ponies team up with gangster pigs? Those Chinks are legendary: they managed to shut down an entire show! (though undoubtedly there were economic reasons to help domestic programs compete)

Meme magic rises from the East!

If only there was a way to get the Chinese to use imageboards. I would love to get in on some of these dank eastern memes.

Hell no, the last thing any imageboard needs is the hordes of ching chong changs that would plague the place up. Just look at the mess they caused when the chinese gov allowed them to play pubg. I can't imagine the shit show they would cause on a mainstream board like 4chan but then again that site is lost anyways so it might be interesting how much more shit that place can get.

i never watched this cartoon but this looks like it was made for an audience of preschool children. How China can think this is problematic for their Communist regime is beyond me.

also banning winnie the pooh because people online compare the Communist leader to him is ridicoulous. Just shows that Chinas government is hypersensitive.
