No, but religion teaches a moral system. By having state sanctioned religion we would see more people being on the same page. This would increase social cohesion and overall national unity.

The nation must have a common religion and firmly hold to it to stand the tests of time. The West as we know it could not exist without Christianity nor will it survive without it.

That being said, I oppose any form of state-sanctioned religion for more reasons than ideology. It is my belief that moralistic laws cannot prevent cultural shifts that oppose their principles; on the contrary, they aggravate them by causing resentment. (((Opponents))) can simply equivocate what injustice exists (for every society has flaws) and these laws and whip mobs into anti-religious and anti-clerical sentiment. Once there is enough power to subvert these laws from within or without, they will not just go away but will be transformed into promoting the opposite of the intent. This is what happened to the West, with laws once censoring degeneracy now censoring "hatespeech," laws promoting morals now promoting their opposite, and the support for religion now used to support its antagonists.

This, I am not a christian or religious man. At best I'd describe myself as a deist, but each of our western nations were brought up by Christianity and its influence ingrained in each of us our sense of morals even if you deny it.

I dont think the state has the authority to tell me what I can and cant believe but I do think Religion is important to the morals of the citizens which make up the nation

Christianity never spearheaded the West, either- Constantine only handed the crypto-jews the keys to the West in order to secure his own position, much the same as commies importing ethnic minorities to maintain their votes.

They eventually got their wish when Empire-wide persecution started under Nero, but despite two hundred years of the harshest tortures and most vigilant searches Christianity still spread to the point that it was eventually officially recognized.

People only do things when threatened with the stick, religion, christianity specifically, threatened hell and damnation if people did not adhere to a moral code. The degradation of religious institutions over the last few centuries removed that stick, and so parents stopped teaching their kids rigorous moral codes, and those children taught their children even less than their parents, and so on and so forth until we come to today.

The stick, the threat of hell is not so much the answer as solving ignorance in people. People aren't taught to think forward, aren't taught to consider the long term consequences of their actions. Religion partially solved this by saying "If you don't do this you will go to hell and suffer for eternity", and lo people did what the bible said out of self interest.

Either teach people to fear hell again or teach them to actually think in terms of decades and centuries. Either one works.
