I don't know if that's possible. Nu-wars is cringe fanfic tier in the first place. It's a hollow shell compared to the original EU. I'd even say that the shitty parts of the EU are better, and that includes the time the empire made evil clones of Luke Skywalker and named them Luuke and Luuuke.

Just imagine if the new trilogy would have followed the Heir to the Empire storyline instead.

What upsets me more than the propaganda in Nu-wars is how they took a dump on the accomplishments of the previous stories simply to continue the status quo of of the empire being a giant overpowering force with infinite resources and the good guys are a plucky rag tag rebellion. I would have been far more satisfied with the product if they would have told a story where the rebellion is struggling with the pains of transitioning into a ruling government while the splintered imperial forces pose a legitimate threat to the stability of the fledgling New Republic.

For anyone who hasn't read them, the X-wing series of books provides several great stories about a variety of different imperial warlords and their plans to consolidate power and undermine the republic. One great example is the Krytos virus. Yssane Isard, the ex director of Imperial Intelligence and current Warlord, worked with imperial loyalists on Coruscant to release a plague that was basically a super ebola that only targeted non-humans. The only treatment was MASSIVE doses of bacta. Bacta is basically a miracle super drug. Authentic bacta was in short supply because iirc it is the export of a single world and is a product of the metabolism of that world's insectoid alien inhabitants. Synthetic bacta exists but is far less effective.

The republic couldn't keep up with the financial cost of securing that much bacta for its citizens. Imperial military forces ambushed and destroyed bacta shipments. Rumors were spread about death panels deciding who lives or died. Rumors that the virus was a republic weapon, that they were truly just as racist as the empire and merely exploited the strength of the non-humans to get themselves into office. There were riots in the streets and some rioters were destroying bacta caches themselves because of rumors that the bacta itself was tainted and was the source of the infection. All the while the imperial warlords were consolidating power in their separate fleets and striking at various military targets while the republic was busy tasking its military to help keep the peace and maintain order.


That's the kind of story that I want to hear. One with a weaker foe that's threatening because they fight smart. Not a hilariously overpowered foe that only loses because of utter incompetence.
