The plausible scenario is that they sell it to someone who actually knows what to do with the IP.
MiHoYo recently expressed interest in buying MLP from Hasbro, because G4 is still really popular in China. They would probably make it into some kind of Genshin-Pony gachaslop, but at least it would be visually appealing with good characters.

Since when should anyone actually worry about silly things like IP/copyright etc. No one can "buy" or "own" AJ's healthy muscular down to earth body and heart anyway, it's her's to give to that special stallion (or dog) as she pleases.
