If the issue is just downloading YouTube videos, you can do it quite easily from VLC.
Media > Open Network Stream, paste in YT video URL
Tools > Codec Information, copy the long URL at the bottom where it says location
Paste this into a browser window, download the file.

Looks like Alphabet/Google/YT have added an extra layer of protection to music. Neither current youtube-dl code (2020.09.20) or the VLC trick can download videos with music anymore.

It probably wont work for most vids, but an invidious instance is working for me with https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=pXRviuL6vMY when ytdl doesnt, and has the download option on. You could try a couple instances on https://invidio.us or even just a generic yt-to-mp3 site
