Following a mass shooting in Kashmir that left 26 tourists dead that India have blamed on Pakistan, relations between the two countries have broken down.
Indian Prime Minister Modi has vowed to purse those responsible to the ends of the Earth while Pakistan's defence minister warns the row could result in all out war between the two countries.
Both countries have nuclear weapons.

My hypothesis is:
Most densely populated and strategic areas will likely be directly wiped out by nuclear detonations.
The less strategic or civilian regions will probably collapse gradually due to economic downfall, famine, and widespread instability.
If theories like Russia’s Dead Hand (also known as the perimeter system, an automated nuclear retaliation system that can launch missiles even if the human chain of command is destroyed) are true for other countries as well, we are likely facing a massive demographic and civilizational collapse.
In my opinion, unlike the "Fallout-style" post-apocalyptic fantasies some people imagine, what will actually happen is more like a forced human restart: a long dark period, followed by the slow reformation of new societies and civilizations.

Most densely populated and strategic areas will likely be directly wiped out by nuclear detonations.
The less strategic or civilian regions will probably collapse gradually due to economic downfall, famine, and widespread instability.
If theories like Russia’s Dead Hand (also known as the perimeter system, an automated nuclear retaliation system that can launch missiles even if the human chain of command is destroyed) are true for other countries as well, we are likely facing a massive demographic and civilizational collapse.
In my opinion, unlike the "Fallout-style" post-apocalyptic fantasies some people imagine, what will actually happen is more like a forced human restart: a long dark period, followed by the slow reformation of new societies and civilizations.
