Progressives, by nature, believe themselves to be on the "right side of history". They believe that their views are natural, correct, inevitable, and most importantly popular. Commies are the same, as they consider communism to be "historic inevitability". This is why they don't handle defeat well. They just lost the popular vote for the first time in 20 years in a sweeping electoral defeat that shows an unequivocal rejection of their ways by the populous, and they have no idea how to handle that.
Conservatives are the opposite. Conservatives complain constantly about how liberals are killing society (because they are), but Conservatives don't believe that they're on the "natural path of civilization"; they believe that they are stalwart defenders from the eternal tide of progressive rot, which is why they handle defeat a bit more easily instead of having existential crisises when it's made clear that their beliefs aren't popular among normies.
