You can really see my lack of skill when it comes to 3d shading and lighting. Good art is built on heavy contrast. I'm trying hard to reflect that in art but so far shading looks dull and it ruins the sketch. I will definitely try to copy styles from professional artists soon. I'm switching from paint to photoshop.

I think to draw a hybrid right you have to figure out what the character is supposed to be and then decide how any clashing features of the species manifest to suit that character concept.
Characters meant to be losers or cutely clumsy or underdogs might get worse rolls in the genetic lottery than characters meant to be "one species but with bonus powers from another".
A lot of furries just make their OCs hybrids because they can't decide between generic fox or generic wolf or want to stand out from generic wolves/foxes by adding in DNA from another generic species. Or just want to give their animal wings for no reason.
It's easy to get so caught up in how the character looks, you forget why he or she looks that way: the characterization itself.

Hybrid chaacters need to be done thoughtfully and sparingly, or else they'll end up as cringe deviantart/furaffinity OCs. They also need to have a good concept behind them oter than just being a speshul snowflak, and their designs need to be thouht-out, or they'll look ugly/generic. And most importantly, the character needs to have its own personality and habits aside from its race alone: species is no substitute for original character development.

These are not the result of hybidization either, but rather just selective breeding wrought from single stocks and bred for specific traits. None of the breeds you mention are the result of mixing breeds, let alone species. It's worth noting that al breeds of domestic dogs, cats and horses are actually the exact same species.
An example of a selectively-bred hybrid would be the Carolina Reaper: The spiciest peper on earth. The reaper is result of cross-pollination between ghost peppers and red habbenaros: two different pants with similar traits bred together to express even greater qualities of those traits.
Mules are something pretty different though because horses and donkies aren't really that close, although they are both equines.

That's not really relevant to art though. Thing about pony OCs is that most ponies have very similar basic design vectors, and I find that deviating from that baic template can be cause for cringe. That being said, a good charater can be identified by it's silouete, so it's important to make a character unique in some regard.

Answering this made me get out a new pad. Probably shouldn't have, spent too long and kind of forgot what I was supposed to do earlier. Didn't like any of the concepts so they went into the stove. Most reasonable version I can find is a slightly shorter but slightly longer musclebound Saddle Arabian. Same basic vector, just stretch it out and shorten. Also, ech for the Aelfborn since zorses seem to always be cursed with the worst of both parents' traits.

Here is a nice tip. Always flip your digital art to spot mistakes. Only now I see that the front hooves are flat as fuck. How did I not notice it sooner?

So the price point makes sense because it's high effort long labor task. Problem is there are tons (the full internet full) of competitors. So it's high, there will be fewer people to purchase at that price point of more than 100$ since it's fully custom it's a niche area which is good.
Thirty dollars for first picture is not bad, but could be better. That is to say it's good, just better stuff.

You need marketing to people who want and need custom drawings of characters they want. At this responsible rate (the few people who pay tens of thousands per month in a single mobile game).

To succeed in selling stuff you have to have a solution to a problem.
People need that artwork -> Drawing it for them
The issue is that need is fairly low unless you seek those out thay deeply desire it.

For mass apeal sell one character to millions for cheap. Problem lots of people occupy that space.
NSFW many people are horny. The reputation stays but pays good. Lots of NSFW artists didn't want to be NSFW artists know for that.
For niche sell something 'original' for them.
For extremely niche sell to specific 'whale' individuals. Problem they have the currency to hire just about anyone for a picture. Best art.

In digital art 'mass' reproduction and editing is possible. The You-Choose fill in rest of the character things on boorus do exist.
The real issue with my advice is that this isn't something I spend alot of money or time on. So whay I say is not honed or good enough to be taken as is.

Been running photoshop for almost digital art. I've tried other programs but photoshop is still the one I'm most comfortable with and even though it's a ram whore it's still worth it. Tablet is Intuos 4 medium. It's a good middleground but wasnt cheap when I got it. Drawing on something while looking at the screen takes some rewiring your brain and I do feel like I'd do better on a

I have lots of things to say for beginners but kind of learned over the years that people arent really /that/ interested in improving, when its all laid out for them. You can lead a horse to water ect. But I'll say that deconstruction is the fastest way I've improved outside of just using references a lot. Reverse engineering stuff, or take apart PSDs if you want to learn from the artist and it's an option. Streams can be very useful when you're not just approaching it like a passive audience.

That's just the way I like to work a lot of times, some people prefer having a more solid and locked in thing to start with before painting but thats not for me. But if you have an idea to start with before putting any marks on the canvas then it makes it much easier, thats why people suggest doing small write-prompts on the side on what you're aiming for.

Hello, /mlpol/. It is I, the myth, the legend, here to come back from the dead once more to tell you a story.

Roughly two years ago I was struggling with my semester in uni, with a math exam in particular, so I've done basically the most reasonable thing that any normal person would - I lured bronies on 4chan to do the math for me in exchange for drawing porn. Grand, innit? For every solved equation one would get a drawing of cheerilee being stuffed with anon's... knowledge. The amount of people who took the bait was overwelming. It is now that I'm a bitter oldfag I can see how special that thread was.

I'm not good at drawing so I don't think am qualified to really answer. Had a childhood friend that knew all that that I try to rekindle with (but that is unrelated). The painting looks really good in my mind so I don't want to be critical and anything I say can be wrong.
But if I were to give some input (that could be wrong) is the perhaps the belly after the "fold" should have a tiny bit more to mark it, but it is good so making it more pronounce might make it worse. The face perhaps needs a little shading on left side as it don't look 100% correct, but not sure what you should do. Perhaps only make the light shading to to the top of the eye is enough. Then you might add some shading to the hair so it matches the other shading. The left hoofs might need reverse shading to match the lighting source. But I am really bad at drawing and I think she looks good so my suggestions might make it worse.

A cheap tablet will start $50 bare minimum. Get one a little nicer than that, though. Then you'll want an affordable computer if you don't already have one. Download Krita and Gimp. Krita may have a bit of a learning curve, so you could always start of with Paint.

Good luck. Now you, too, can procrastinate about drawing lewd and maniacal mares.
