/mlpol/ Movie Night
Yep, you read that right. There will be a movie stream tonight as we're all trapped in our homes, slowly going insane thanks to
We'll be watching the MLP, and then after we can decide if we want to watch some show episodes or just repeat the movies while shitposts occur as has always happened historically.
We'll start the movie at REMINDER: Program commences at 5:30 PST instead of 6:30. If this time works out it will likely be the new starting time going forward.

Theres been a dedicated mlp stream in the past. The only thing barring up to episodes every day or whichever day is anon stepping up and making it happen. No one is advocating for less episodes
WOOP. okay now we're talking OP! Thanks for listening to us anons, we appreciate it
Is the dual chat worth having?
Other times / days of the week?
>off topic question
How do you feel about streaming of different content for times other than movie night.
>>319769>How do you feel about streaming of different content for times other than movie night.
Don't try to bite off more than you can chew.
Back in the beforetime there were weekly philosophy/psychology streams (lots of Jordan Peterson), anime, mlp, cartoons, and movies. It would not be unprecedented for there to be a non-mlp night/stream, but if one goes the way of benisarea they will be disavowed and/or stricken
>>319769>Is the dual chat worth having?
Dual chat? More than one live chat service for a small stream? Splitting a stream's viewership when there are usually less than 20 people in it sounds like a bad idea to me. I didn't think that anyone would see that as being a positive.>Other times / days of the week?
Wednesday evenings and Thurs/Fri are tough days for me. Saturday or Sunday are good. I can probably swing almost any time then. Other weeknights, depending on the time, also work for me.>How do you feel about streaming of different content for times other than movie night.
I'd be a bit concerned about scattering the viewership a bit too much if we did that. I'm open to the idea, but it might cost a lot of time and organization effort on your part compared to the amount of community engagement you'd get.
>>319777>I'd be a bit concerned about scattering the viewership a bit too much if we did that.
Yup, the point of saturation will be reached very soon.
>>319769>How do you feel about streaming of different content for times other than movie night.
I would like to see more documentaries or educational stuff on interesting things.
Same time same place. Going to try a different kind of preshow for a bit live. (Gameplay of pone being violated by hard fast things that may burst with loat of moving sand. Noita but with pony.) Aka now.5:30 PST (aka 8:30 EST or 7:30 CST)
Movies actually start whenever people actually want them to start.https://www.joshwhotv.com/live/0/_60b1994a187f3/1https://cytu.be/r/OccultFacade
In the mean time the dating Sunset tries get power.
Got caught up in a couple of other things, but I am making haste!
sorry for the technical difficulties earlier
I suggested that we start showing some fandom videos in between the MLP episodes. We're watching two different recap series'. One with MS Paint, and another "Totally Legit Recap" series. It's fun, and it's going over well. I think we should stick with it.
I disagree, those videos are disruptive and frustrating. They extent Movie Night beyond the time allocated and delay what the poners want, either the movies, or the episodes.
Better straight to the cheese as always has been.
Thank you everyone for coming.
Should there be a Saturday movie night? Or other day?>>319962>>319966
Going to trim the excess back. While having thematic buffers is interesting it is a buffer to do other stuff and consumes more time. A time to watch them would be good, and it'll be taken more into consideration.
There were lots of good times had even with the impromptu additions, and my poking around with stuff didn't help matters. Such as audio and resolution issues.
I like them a lot, though maybe showing two videos after every episode is excessive. It's like a dessert.
>Saturday movie night
One a week is enough for me personally. I wouldn't be able to make it to Saturday.
Also I just found out that Rainbow Roadtrip was actually produced in Ireland, explaining not only the Irish accent but why it felt very wholesome. I actually prefer it to the MLP movie since the plot was less ambitious and it felt like an extended episode.
And what about those that cant make the stream? Shit outta luck? Oh well, better luck next time?
There is no prohibition on hosting media streams. There is no authorization process, if u wanna stream ponies on whatever day, then by all means stream ponies.
Movie night used to be on sat and/or sunday, so dont 'hold to tradition'
I disagree with you.
Having two different movies plus a bunch of episodes plus the handful of short recap videos makes for a very long movie night, I agree. I think that if we're to cut things down, then we should cut one of the movies.
A movie night with one movie, a bunch of episodes, and one recap video after each episode sounds like it would take a more reasonable amount of time.
The main draws of the movie night are a regular hangout, a slice of non-pony content, and pony content. I think that fandom videos like the recap ones fit perfectly in this.
Going from 8:30 at night to 3:30 or 4am is excessive and really hard to sustain. I think that 4 hours would be a big enough amount of time to be satisfying, and would still allow for a bunch of content.
How does the streamer manage the streams? It looks like you run some sort of screen capture program and stream stuff from the internet while also watching your own stream in the chatrooms. How do you do the website integration? If I could get a rundown of how the streaming was done on a technical level, then I could maybe look at getting a stream up and running of my own. There are plenty of types of content to stream, so I don't think they'd look too similar. I don't know if I'd be doing it regularly, but it'd be interesting to try running a stream.
Who was using CyTube? Why use Cytube instead of JoshWhoTV? I have a second browser specifically so I can go to the JoshWhoTV streams, so I can understand not liking the technical hurdles. It just seems like cutting the chatroom population in half cuts down on the fun.>>319971>Should there be a Saturday movie night? Or other day?
I think something on the weekend might be easier to make for a lot of people. For one, it could be scheduled to be at a time where people don't have to be awake at ridiculous hours compared to their normal work-sleep schedule. At the very least, I think it's worth a trial run. If I figure out how to do it, then I'm willing to try hosting one.>>320043
Why are they not able to make the stream? Is it on too late, or is it on during a day where they have other commitments?
Tomorrow (or now of enough people want to its the same time as yesterday) I'll be doing the exact same stream (and extract same line up) at... whatever time is good. Maybe again next weekend as well to get a feel for the times people are able to be here.>>320056>How does the streamer manage the streams?
Using joshwhotv I take the stream from OBS (they have instructions for that integration, and VLC player) and then I embed the joshwhotv steam (it's in the options tab after clicking Go Live).
Because it's only going through one place, the only difference would be the chatrooms for either.>Who was using CyTube? Why use Cytube instead of JoshWhoTV?
My Computer -> Joshwhotv -> Cytube (or where ever you want your stream embeded)
Doing it that way is so far the simplest way to extend the stream with no other additions.
So OpenBroadcastS while it has its flaws is open to everyone, all the other stuff is built in functionality that OBS (and importantly VLC for automation and autoplay).
OBS is also old enough to be extensively documented multiple times in different ways that would suit your needs.
The setup time to quickly do stuff is maybe 15 minutes. There's some... interesting
little quirks about the program but nothing that is absolutely fatal.https://www.joshwhotv.com/menu/faqhttps://www.joshwhotv.com/v/1443?channelName=JoshWho+TV
Otherwise it's straight foward.
Most of my technical issues stem from me trying something new and messing around beforehand that persist onward accumulating until it becomes a problem.
With that said I think making the Cytube the main movie host sounds like a good idea if I figure out how to get picture uploading to be nice (because it has emotes... and that's about it). Only thing is Joshwhotv chat supports uploading local pictures into chat as is and it'd the first place the stream goes to, the delay for either is almost none compared with each other two sites.
Either way both are pretty easy to get into. Having only the chat for either is also nice, so if one site isn't nice for the device the other one might be. For an easier viewing experience for everyone.
My reasoning is that it appears to be the most widely compatible for many people.
And it does make sense to have everyone is one location for more memery and funposting. Then it's just a question of which place is more fun.
It's a pain and a half currently online images can be pasted into cytube chat. The line embeder is over zealous. But overall not terrible, actually pretty good.
I like Cytube but I can't use it, no matter what browser I use, it causes 100% CPU usage plus a memory leak in my main browser.
So, I'm stuck with the crappy Joshwhotv.
I will try Palemoon, Librewolf and Falkon next time.
Hop on whenever to test them out it (the specific cytube page/channel) should always be open.
If you don't mind me asking what is your main browser?
Just found out through rumors that System1 (data harvesting company) owns the company that owns Waterfox. This may or may not be true. And probably prone to error.
Okay, I believe I found a solution.
Falkon gave me an average of 35% CPU use
Vivaldi and Librewolf around 45%
So, Cytube will be my next Movie Night.
Yes, I confirm, Waterfox is riddled with spyware, but I use it because of the addons. It is hard and time consuming to migrate to a different browser and get the equivalent addons.
While I can't confirm how private Epic browser (chromium) actually is it's another browser if you need something like that.
I just researched it and I didn't like what I saw.
It is the product of a private enterprise and the visible spokeperson is the direct product of American universities, a NO-NO.
The current setup so far does work so no pressure.>>319940
Any who shooting for running a rerun today for those who missed it or want to watch the same things again.
Otherwise more shitposting.
Speaking of rerun, doing Noita with pony mod (and maybe other mods...) as a preshow again mostly to get a feel for the broadcasting software in different circumstances.
Currently running assload of mods with Applejack the bringer of Apple flavored doom.
Any interest in doing an /mlpol/ streaming of the G5 movie?
I'd watch it. I want to know if it's as bad as anticipated.
