Tbh the American federal government has been arguably illegitimate for decades due to superseding its powers delegated in the Constitution. It's not the same in this case regardless as FiM was developed with a clear vision and story and had been veering away from that since Faust left, making the later seasons practically a different show.

Basically just read the newfag thread for some advice.
Also took a look for Luster Dawn and overall I'd say she doesn't have enough personality to give a clear political leaning. But you could always just say monarchist since she listens to Twilight and she appears to be the ruler of Equestria at the end of Jim's fanfic seasons.
