What augmentations do you think will be available in the near future /cyb/? What augs would you want? What augs would you avoid?

>What augs would you avoid?
Anything in the brain.
Anything that could be accessed vi wireless connection for that matter.

 No.277

I am most interested in cognitive enhancement technology. I think we will see a lot with bioaugmentation pretty soon. Nootropics (smart drugs), transcranial elecrical stimulation, and probiotics show a lot of potential. I would be weary of brain implants, not just because of the potential for abuse, but because the possibility of disease from surgery.

I would be extremely cautious of a brain implant with Wi-Fi. The government already records everything we do online. I do not want them in my head.

Exactly.
Plus that opens the possibility for hackers to influence your brain activity: spooky shit.

Any wireless cybernetic implant could put you at risk of being "hacked". Cybernetic augmentations are worst augmentations.

pretty much this. I want to keep my brain in tact and at least a small part of the spinal cord, but the rest can be mechanical or biological for all I care.

Steam augmentations ftw!

Brain and nervous cyber auumentations are bad.

I would definitely support robotic prothesis development for people which NEED limb, torso or other part of body replaced. Like war veterans.

What about for people who just want to improve themselves?

we've already seen people amputate themselves "in solidarity" of cripples (and probably some underlying fetish)

I can bet my left nut that hipfreaks will jump on it as soon as avaiable, maybe propped up by the media showing "brave" cyborg popstars, sportsmen a la Pistorius or some silicon valley religion.
When lifelike, feedback-enabled augs will be ready, they will spread further beyond the ones in need.

I feel sorry for all the losers who rush out the buy the first season of augmentations, only to feel like shit once they see all the newer, better augmentations come out.

 No.311

Never buy an augment at launch.

 No.381

Only a fool would do that.

I think we could see genetically modified super probiotics pretty soon. Those have the potential to do anything from reducing your risk of cancer to increasing your IQ.
