Okay since we started having /a/ on mlpol, I've kinda wanted to make a thread for this for a while and could definitely do with a thread with some actual discussion in here.
>So what is Kemono Friends?
It follows the adventures of Kaban and her new friend Serval as they explore and learn about all the different "Friends" (Animals turned into humanised versions of themselves) that live within Japari Park.
>Why should I watch it?
What makes this show great for me and a few others is despite the fact it's 3D animation is very basic, it's story is a breath of fresh air. While it may seem basic on the surface and come off as Dora the Explorer there is more hidden below the surface. It's world building is much more showing in a subtle way then telling the viewer straight up. Plus it's a wholesome show thats not like all the kike made shows made for kids these days.
To put it simply, the show is very much like the Japanese version of MLP
So have you watched the show? What do you think about it? Also who is the best Friend?
As many animes these days, I have not watched this one. However, I am willing to say that i really admire the concept (as well as the big number or artwork) and think this could be potentially very enjoyable program. Also I have a weak spot for the Emperor penguing. She seems to have a big heart and her people seem to be nice as well.
By the way this Natsoc uniform art is very pleasant. c:
I'll admit I only started watching the show because I saw an image or two and thought it was going to be one of those "Its so bad it's got to be good" sort of shows. But as I watched I could tell that the ten man team on the show put their heart and soul into this show, even if they forgot to animate the wheels of the bus in the intro until half way into the season.
And yes one of the great things about Japan is how no matter what show it is, there will always be some nice NatSoc art of it. Or in rare circumstances, make their own product filled with Natsoc. But that's for another thread
Wasn't the director fired.
This show is really nice. It isn't as smart as classic MLP was, but it's almost as kind and friendly.
Yeah this is a huge thing that upset the fan base. The director, Tatsuki, had full creative control over the show due to the fact the Kemono Friends franchise was a failure on arrival. They gave his team of just ten people (Not including voice actors) only $10,000, which is nothing for a full 12 episode TV show. But Tatsuki and the team put 110% into their work despite their lack of 3D animation skills and because of that it became a huge success in Japan.
The reason he was fired though was because after all the episodes were aired he made a teaser image for a season 2 as well as make an episode 12.1, following Fennec and Racoon and uploaded it to his YouTube channel (Which you can still find on there oddly enough https://youtu.be/lh_GcdBamD4
) Following his firing, his team that worked on the show also quit.
So now the chances for a season 2 are next to nil, or if it does get one then it will be by a completely different team with a lot less creative control then the original team.
Also here have some Alpaca Suri art since my friend I watched this show with loves her quite a lot.
