yt-dlp is console app, there are GUI (Graphical User Interface) wrappers out there, but I haven't used any.
To use yt-dlp on windows download the yt-dlp.exe binary and place it in a folder where you want to download videos to.
Then simplest way is:
1. Open Command Line (cmg.exe) or PowerShell (if Windows 10/11 right click the Start Menu and select Command Line or Power Shell)
2. Navigate to the folder where you saved yt-dlp.exe
3. Type:
>yt-dlp.exe [URL TO VIDEO]
4. Press enter

For GUI for yt-dlp I guess this one will work (download the Portable as it is the easiest to use I guess)

The thumbs are just one unique quality, or size. It depends of the video which one will be. 640 or 1280.

I don't know if you are aware, but you can get the thumbs manually, one by one, with a browser from the Firefox's family.
Go to Tools/Page Info and in the dialog copy the "image"'s address. Paste that address in a new tab and voila! You've got the image/thumb.

Do I like it? No, it's disappointing and depressing - especially since I haven't been able to save the majority of the good channels, and don't like living in this dangerous era where all evil is now assembling and coming to a point for its final assault against all good. Sorry to not be a bright and cheerful conversation partner in this case.

Most YouTube channels will never return somewhere else, once they've been censored.

Also - I don't have a SIM card in my smartphone and keep it in airplane mode, because of their crazy tracking being impossible to turn off (even on DeGoogled phones) and also every single smartphone being used, is one step closer for a "threshold" to be crossed where "the enemy" decides that it can lock/force the people of a country into using some kind of digital tyrannical social-credit/ID/payment system. Therefore, I don't want to add to the problem.

I just use the smartphone to watch educational videos that I have downloaded previously, but also to reduce the damaging electromagnetic radiation from the phone antennas.
Streaming and watching a video in the car for example (as a passenger) will fry your pony stallion nuts and reduce fertility, but that's just one of many examples of the negative effects.

Yes, the videos are offered in all kinds of resolutions, and the maximum resolution is determined by the resolution that was uploaded to YouTube. YT-DLP can, for example, download very high resolution and very low resolution versions of the same video, and also at different audio qualities/bitrates. There are also different video and audio formats offered for each video by YouTube - suitable for different devices, that may only be able to play a certain format and not the other.
By default, I think that YT-DLP (almost) always downloads the highest quality version that's available.

Anyway, must sleep now, but the original offer of downloading those thumbnails from a favourite channel of yours is still available.

If you go through the advice listed by other pony/human anons in this thread, you'll be able to use YT-DLP soon quite well. If there are error messages consider posting a screenshot, which might help (but hide the personal stuff).

That's right, those are the formats made available by jewtube. If you want PNG, then you have to convert them to it.
